Guest Reviews
- Chan Mi (10/5): Geweldig. Aanrader. - Alles! -
- Carly (10/5): The most authentic Japanese hospitality you can find! - The property itself was so lovely! You are in the middle of red cedar forests filled with streams, rice paddies, cherry blossoms, and beautiful traditional homes. The most amazing part is the bath house, their traditional Goemon heated by fire…my kids never wanted to leave! They provided bikes and fishing poles and nets for our kids to catch creatures- probably the coolest experience they have had and we travel often! If you want a genuine Japanese countryside experience you have to stay here! The hosts are the kindest people and the food they prepare is phenomenal!! We can’t wait to play our next trip!! Everything was way above our expectations!!!
- NAI WEN (10/5): - 超棒的環境,充滿懷舊風情又很乾淨,室內很多暖氣設備還有燒木頭的火爐,完全不會被冷到,早餐和晚餐都超級美味!大推!
- John (10/5): A fantastic, wholly memorable farmstay an hour’s scenic bus ride from Kyoto - Everything. A traditional country farmhouse in the picturesque Koheiko area all to ourselves! It had a goemon onsen bath, a wood-burning stove, woodcutting zone. We picked our own spring onions, cooked on a traditional Japanese wood burning stove, and were treated to a Wagyu steak indoor barbecue with dozens of side dishes, plum wine, on our last night. Surrounded by cedar-clad hills and stillness.
Our hosts were extremely attentive, kind and helpful in every way. They both speak very good English, and while not in the least intrusive, were close at hand and ready to help : including by giving us lifts to local attractions and collecting us from the bus station in Shuzan. It was a lovely feature of our visit.
- Polina (10/5): AMAZING PLACE LOCATION AND HOSTS - The house, food and the hosts simply could not be better. Exceptional and amazing Experience! From the location, house it self, hosts, food, food presentation, bath, comfortable beds - all was great. We slept like babies. Food was Michelin level and so well presented. Masanori Tanaka San and his wife are truly nice, friendly & concerned about the guest and their hospitality is commendable. We wish we could stay longer and mean to return in another season outside winter. We did go together to a local beautiful temple the next morning and had great time. Their English is great and we communicated well. I loved the traditional goemon-buro bath! So soothing and relaxing. We had more than we ever needed and I believe few nights era would har been great if we didn’t have so much more to get to in far areas as the region is absolutely pretty any time of the year. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT HOSPITALITY. All was perfect
- Supakorn (10/5): Love Goemon Kyoto JAPAN Thank you So much Mosanori & Nami🙏😘 - ธรรมชาติ อากาศบริสุทธิ์ ดูแลด้วยใจ ปลอดภัย -
- Irena (10/5): - The hospitality, the quiet location and the meals. Loved the experience. None
- Kaitlin (10/5): A dream of a stay! Our time at Banja Goemom was the highlight of our 2 week Japan trip. - The breakfast and dinner are delicious, the house is a dream, the beds are comfy, the surrounding countryside is peaceful and serene, and most importantly, the hosts are two of the kindest and most welcoming people we've ever met. We can't wait to go back!
- Jerry (10/5): - So nice to see the country side in japan .
Everything was perfect , the interaction with the host , the food , ...
We recommended a 100%
- Loretta (10/5): Wonderful stay in a traditional Japanese home - We loved the kind hospitality of our hosts, getting to know them and them teaching us about this traditional Japanese home and way of living. We accidentally stuffed up our car hire and Masanori kindly drove us to see the sights we wanted to see and also showed us local spots. The dinner and breakfast was incredible and so generous. The food was some of the freshest we had on our trip, if not the absolute freshest. The breakfast bread was so warm and crunchy. They let us help them pick veggies and fruit from their garden to eat during meal time which we loved. We will never forget this wonderful experience. Thank you! Nothing. It was all amazing.
- Yugo (10/5): - 施設にて、五右衛門風呂や薪割り、美味しいご飯色々と楽しかったです。 ありません。
- Benjamin (10/5): Authentic house and nature pluss one of the friendliest host I every meet - It was the total impression. A unbelievable nice and warm hospitality, the landscape and nature surroundings.
A petty that I can't give 11 points here. Every time again we would come to this amazing place
- Chloé (10/5): So perfect! - A perfect stay.
It was my second time in this house.
They are very nice and they gave us some good recommandation about what to visit around here. Specially the Jōshōkō-ji temple and the water fall Takimata.
For the waterfall, please remember the name in kanji because there is a crossroads with a small sign with the name of the waterfall in kanji only. There is no internet in the forest!
It’s better to come with a car but it’s ok without car if you like cycling and walking. The first time I came (in 2017), I took the bus, and Tanaka Masanori-san kindly picked me up from the bus terminal and brought me to the house. It was very nice.
This time (2025) I came with a car and it was perfect to watch a lot of things.
And do not go to Takamiya Riding Park. If I understand well, it’s not for tourist (the lady from the riding club seems angry about to see tourists). Just do not go to Takamiya Riding Park (horse). If I understand well, it’s not for tourist (the lady from the riding club seems angry about to see tourists).
About Goemon, nothing bad. It was a very very very wonderful place!
- Sonoko (10/5): Lovely hosts, went over and beyond our expectation - We had an exceptional experience that we will remember and cherish for our life time. I was born and raised in Kyoto Japan myself, but I have to say, the whole experience was very authentic, traditional and inspirational.
The character, the charm of the house, the local community, and the food was all amazing! The whole experience of making your own fire for your goemon bath and rice that the host grew and harvested with care was a very traditional and unique experience that highlighted our stay. Even our two little children (2 and 5) were also able to participate with great care and guidance.
Most of all, the host went over and beyond to make our experience the best we could ever imagine. Including driving us and stopping by at cherry blossom spots to take photos and driving us all the way to Hiyoshi Springs for a minimal amount after we checked out as there were no taxis in the area. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us.
I have to say, my kids absolutely loved catching the “Yamori”s in the front yard, and digging up a bamboo shoot “takenoko” which the host specially cooked for us and added it to our set dinner.
The bed (futons) were sooo comfortable and waking up to a traditional Japanese room was serene.
My 5 year old enjoyed it so much he didn’t want to leave, as well as ALL of us.
Even after many weeks after staying at Goemon, we feel so privileged to have been able to stay here and meet our host.
We definitely want to stay again next time we come back to Japan!
Thank you so much….! None
- Priya (10/5): Excellent Stay - The host was welcoming and kind. My kids had a great time participating in traditional activities like cutting wood and heating water. We also enjoyed cooking rice in the traditional Japanese kitchen. Beautiful and memorable days—thank you so much!
- Alla (10/5): Amazing!!! - 1) A unique experience of living in a real Japanese home and interacting with local people.
2) Beautiful house, great dinner and breakfast. Everything is thought out to the smallest detail, with love and care.

- Achariyasilp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! The couple who manage are super nice and welcoming. It’s really a great escape in the countryside of Japan with traditional experience. Everything was perfect and highly recommend it!
- Vijai (5/5): Passable -
- Lewis (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing host that provided a real and authentic Japanese home experience.
- Chun (8/5): I highly recommend this Japanese-style house to anyone seeking a one-of-a-kind experience. - I had the pleasure of staying at this unique Japanese-style house, and the experience was extraordinary. The traditional bath, heated by an open flame make my day-end a memorable and relaxing experience.
Our gracious hosts treated us to a delightful BBQ dinner featuring incredibly tender Japanese beef and locally sourced deer meat. The breakfast was equally delightful, with crunchy-on-the-outside yet soft-on-the-inside bread, accompanied by fresh veggies straight from the hosts' own field.
The serene and unique environment of the house provided the perfect backdrop for a tranquil getaway. The hosts not only suggested a local Onsen which showcased the beauty of nature for a rejuvenating experience but also shared insider tips on nearby scenic spots and a vibrant farm market. The host also recommended us local activities, such as fishing, swimming, and cycling just in case we visit again in summer.
The hosts take great pride in their property, creating an unforgettable stay that seamlessly blends cultural immersion with modern comfort.
- Netpradit (10/5): Awesome - BAR-B-QUE & Cooking ourselves Shower room
- Norma (10/5): Fantastic hospitality. - Fantastic hospitality. Thank you for preparing fantastic foods for us. We felt really welcomed and enjoyed our stay very much.
We really loved the house and enjoyed surrounding area. Beautiful and peaceful town.
We would love to come back here in the future. None
- Emily (10/5): Authentic and beautiful Japanese Farmhouse Experience in the Countryside - A beautiful 100 year old Japanese Farmhouse in a delightful countryside. An authentic experience with very kind and helpful hosts.
We had dinner and breakfast prepared for us by our host and it was generous and delicious. We harvested fresh vegetables from the garden.
The couple who were our hosts were very kind and generous. They drove us to see some other places and helped us with anything we needed. Also, good English was spoken which made our stay easy and enjoyable as we could ask many questions. I hope we can visit again one day, highly recommend for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of traditional Japanese life in the countryside.

- Pamela (10/5): Traditional Japanese house in a valley 1h from Kyoto. - Traditional Japanese house in a valley 1h from Kyoto. The house is very neat, clean and with a lot of space, the owners were very helpful and kind and they prepared us a wonderful meat-based dinner to cook on the brazier in the center of the living room. The house offers a typical goemon bath with wood-fired water, the experience is very nice.
