I would highly recommend this hotel. It was the highlight of our 24 day stay. Our server, Izzy in the bar was amazing.

Lovely lounge with roaring log fire which we enjoyed with a coffee while awaiting our room key. Attractive restaurant, excellent food and helpful staff. Quite an uneven walk (unfortunately in pouring rain) from the main building to our room. Access to the room was via an external spiral staircase. Obviously not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Although umbrellas are provided it was difficult to use these on the route due to the narrow walkway, extensive greenery etc.

• Maurice (10/5): great. - Everything. The location was superb and was made full use of. Breakfast and evening meals on the terrace overlooking the blue sea was relaxed and a highlight of our stay. All the staff we encountered were similarly friendly and relaxed. it was a shame the two rooms we were given were not near each other, but this had no impact on our overall enjoyment.
• Debra (8/5): - Loved the property - a couple of extra overs - the room was very warm when we arrived - I am sure we could have borrowed a fan but installing air con may be an option. Also for a hotel of this standing I would have expected a far better hair dryer than the one available. Lastly not that its was in any way the fault of the hotel but the weather on one day was terrible - the ferries were cancelled - I wonder therefore if it would have been a good PR exercise to perhaps put a cakes in the lounge for guests to have with coffee?

• Gayle (9/5): A feel-good hotel. Cruisey vibe, spacious and comfy rooms, and a close to pretty streets and shopping. - Quirky and comfortable, plus well sized rooms. The restaurant was too pretty and convenient to walk past - we had breakfast and a couple of lunches there. Great neighbourhood for cafes and shopping, with leafy streets to walk in if you want to avoid the Portobello Road hubbub. Some of the restaurant staff are a bit junior and get overwhelmed. Customers should be nice!

• Paulo (10/5): Beautiful Gem - Beautiful hotel in an extremely beautiful part of the country. This deceivingly small hotel, which isn't that small one, you get up the steps from the main road is a hidden gem. The hotel manager Karen is a delight to deal with and converse with as are an array of staff, particularly Talin the chap who works the restaurant. Food is impeccable and can not be faulted, nor can its position within walking distance of everything.

Being able to sit outside on the terrace enabled us to enjoy the fabulous view. All staff were very helpful and the hotel has its own car park. The sun loungers and coffee at the Beach Club. More detailed information about the number of steps would be helpful for those with mobility issues or the option to request a room in the main building. It would be better if the dinner menu was made available before 6pm!

• Sharon (9/5): Beautiful location and relaxing place - Superb location. Our room (12) had a roof terrace overlooking the sea with lovely sun beds and table/chairs. Food was excellent but fairly limited choice- okay for us as we eat anything but could be restrictive for some. Menu changes daily which helps if you’re staying more than one night. Service in the restaurant was exemplary. Drinks service was patchy- the first evening we waited a long while for drinks in the lounge. The second evening we were on the terrace and waited, seemingly invisible, for some time while a member of serving staff chatted to another table of four about their game of Trivial Pursuit! We then managed to catch the eye of another staff member and my husband ordered two drinks to save a further wait! Our room was comfortable and stylish but the bathroom needs some repairs - huge crack in the wash basin and several cracked floor tiles. The exterior paintwork needs some attention too. Minor points in the whole scheme of things and did not spoil our stay. The hotel atmosphere is calm and relaxing, it has a sort of Art Deco feel about it. But at the prices they charge it should really be perfect!

• Carol (10/5): Bliss. - As the Americans say, “what’s not to like?”. I was fortunate enough to stay in The Forte Suite, with floor space larger than my little cottage near Sydney! Sooo comfortable. Loved the ambience, the food, that setting. A special shout-out to our waiter at lunch and dinner, Ricardo, and the restaurant manager ( sadly I don’t know her name) consummate professionals both. Coming from Australia, where pet-friendly places are slowly appearing, what a joy for me to see them welcomed on the terrace and some rooms. My friend and dog stayed in the Garden Room. Wonderful decor and immense outdoor space. If you are planning a visit, don’t hesitate. You will not be disappointed. Thank you, Tresanton. There’s no denying there are parts of the exterior that are due for a touch up, but this apart, it is a wonderful property.

• Melanie (9/5): Great location, beautiful views, peaceful and tranquil - a perfect couples getaway - We liked the meet & greet, the valet parking, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and nothing was too much trouble - they were superb. Our bed was exceptionally comfortable, our room was quiet with lovely views over the bay. The food was excellent and overall we very much enjoyed our 2 night stay. Thank you also for the kind gesture to help us celebrate my husband's birthday. The 'tiny' tables for two in the restaurant; the lack of atmosphere in the lounge/library area - whilst beautifully and tastefully decorated it was rather 'sterile' - perhaps soft music playing in the background would help ease the awkwardness; whilst there were a number of people in there no-one was talking and it was almost like sitting in a doctors waiting room. Not a fan of not being able to wash my hands before leaving the toilet room - but accept there's limited space for a small hand wash basin.

• Neil (10/5): Excellent Hotel in charming village of St Mawes - This is an excellent hotel in beautiful St Mawes. The location 5 minutes to the harbour, small shops, bars and restaurants is excellent and with stunning views from a lot of the rooms. We had a room/suite in a converted house adjacent to the main hotel and it had a small children's den/bedroom for our 4 year old. Only real criticism is that our Daughter who is very well behaved & well travelled was not allowed in the restaurant in the evening so we had to order room service but all the food was excellent. Parking is above the resort but after dropping our bags off our car was parked and returned when leaving. Lovely afternoon Tea in the lounge and a short walk to the best Fish & Chips ever at The Watch House Restaurant side hatch.

Overall the experience was very good but there are some elements that could be improved/refreshed such as new TVs, in room refreshments (no tea and coffee making facilities). I wasn’t disappointed; it was exactly what I hoped for . Not in the least pretentious or stuffy but just deeply competent and assured . The service is there but it’s unobtrusive and not obsequious . I asked for a martini and unusually in a small hotel but not unexpectedly in this hotel actually got a proper cocktail . We had two very enjoyable dinners , a room with a wonderful view which had everything I could conceivably expect anyone would want from books through a local map and excellent linens . I hesitated when thinking about whether I wanted to make a review simply because the hotel is already deservably popular and I want to be able to get in when I go back . A triumph; an establishment who actually do hospitality as aposed to pretentious nonsense.
