Guest Reviews
- Big Doozer (9/5): How did you find the bacon - Nice staff, very helpful. Restaurant was busy and good
Rooms warm and very good shower. The breakfast was limited to one coffee. A very tiny piece of dry bacon with the rest ok.
Nothing else to spoil a nice place.
- Martin (8/5): Nice room and comfortable stay. - Nicely built rooms adjoining the pub. Very comfortable. Food finishes at 20-30 and pub closes at 21-00. Est before you arrive if you are checking in late
- Katarzyna (9/5): -
- John (10/5): - Friendly approach of staff. Good food
- Tatjana (10/5): -
- Helen (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Peaceful pleasant wonderful - Quiet little village staff lovely as always . Food in pub is like a 5 stay restaurant good bus regular bus service to thame and oxford Liked everything
- Sandra (9/5): Would definitely return - Lovely breakfast with obviously quality ingredients. Lots of outside seating to make the most of the wonderful weather. Friendly and helpful staff. Good parking and a ground floor room. A shelf to store toiletries in the shower room would have been useful. Sockets for hairdryer close to mirror and better lighting by mirror would have been appreciated.
- Linda (10/5): Staff and owners couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. - Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice.
It was served in a quiet area. Nothing. They were extremely flexible about timings, offering service as late as 11.00am which was perfect for our needs.
- Richard (9/5): -
- Clive (9/5): A 17th century inn, recently renovated to a high standard, cleverly combining modern features with ‘olde world’ style - - Well appointed room, tastefully decorated.
Excellent food for both dinner & breakfast from comprehensive menus, served by efficient, friendly staff.
High standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
Close to M40. Nothing to dislike about it.
- Penny Newson (8/5): - Clean and comfortable room Basically in a car park but no problem for a one night stay
- Robert (10/5): Wonderful weekend. Many thanks. - Fabulous gastro pub with accommodation. Staff were really great. Owner was brilliant. Food is unbelievable. Really good. It genuinly is a hard to beat place, nestled in beautiful Oxfordshire. Oh, and the breakfast was awesome. I cant genuinly think of anything. There were no problems.
- Marcus (9/5): Recommend see my points. Really good 2 day trip - Met up with 2 other couples. Great location for exploring and walking locally.
The property is dog friendly, really understand your needs, they are dog owners.
Rooms and bar dog friendly.
I am coeliac and they fully understood GF too.
The village hall and playground is across the road to exercise dog and locals pick up after dogs. Very clean. Nothing to complain about.
- Christophe (10/5): - Confort, accueil, style
- Pete Gilby (9/5): Overall a very pleasant place to stay, with exceptional food - ALL Staff were very polite & very helpful.
Evening meal - Best pie { Homemade Steak & Ale } in a restaurant / pub / hotel that I have ever had, absolutely superb, rest of evening meal food was also very, very good - Scallops were delicious.
Breakfast again was excellent { Perfect Poached Eggs }
Check out time off 11.00am is a good time, { Too many places do 10.00am }
Would definitely stay again -- Thought nightly B&B rate of £125 was just a little bit high { £110 - £115 would be fairer } but still not a bad price for the area.
No plug in sink so could not fill sink with water, no plug socket on wall behind dressing table to enable hair dryer to be used
- Natasha (8/5): Good value for what you get - Very clean and comfortable thank you. Friendly and good value for money It was all great for the value for money. It's not on the luxury end but it's good enough and clean. I was quite cold so pulled out more blankets which worked. The tea coffee facilities were fully stocked - you get milk in the fridge but no mineral water so bring your own or ask at the pub before 9.30pm
- Jan (9/5): Wish we had found this place as a stop off in previous years. Would certainly stop again - Handy location just off M40 as we were travelling further south the next day.
Lovely comfortable inn, bedrooms separate to main pub which was good.
Extremely friendly staff.
Excellent food.
Felt really comfortable there. Nothing
- Annand (7/5): -
- Russell (10/5): Great - Convenient location as not many places to stay in area. Friendly staff.
- Ian (10/5): - friendly staff good food
- Dennis (8/5): - Good value
- Elaine (9/5): Amazing girls run it little pros very friendly - The pub was spotless the staff amazing the food yummy.
- Karen (2/5): - Good coffee. Problem smell inside and outside room at time of visit. Too much (marquee in garden, camper van park on hardstanding to rear, small piece of garden left next to noisy road) squashed in to too little space.
- Jenny (9/5): -
- Marie (10/5): Perfect stay would definetly return - It was a
Very hot working weekend for my sister and I so we were so please to see a fridge and a large fan in the room. I was clean and comfortable, the food was great and a perfect location for Waterperry Gardens. Nothing
- SarahBuchanan (10/5): A great place to stay - We arrived at 1.30 on a busy Sunday. Nathan greeted us and showed us our room. He made us feel very welcome. We were at a family party - the food and service were exceptional. A wonderful stay in a clean, well appointed room, topped off by a delicious breakfast. You'll definitely want to leave a tip - so take some cash! There was not one thing to dislike.
- Martin (10/5): Great stay. Would visit again! - Easy to access with plenty of parking.
The owner was helpful and attentive, making us feel valued as customers.
The accommodation looked really attractive outside with well kept hanging baskets, and the room was spacious, clean with good attention to detail.
We had the pie in the restaurant, really tasty and good value.
- ALEXANDRA (9/5): Clean, warm and comfortable. Fabulous food and nice staff! - Very clean, warm and comfortable. Great food in the evening and fabulous breakfast.
- Clive (10/5): - Clean and well presented with everything we needed.
Good car park area
Exceptional staff - friendly, cheerful and professional.
- David (10/5): - What a delightful find. Beautiful.
- Sarah (9/5): Great place in beautiful location - We arrived at the Fox & Goat as they were about to close for the evening, the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating despite wanting to go home after a long day. The landlord, landlady and their beautiful dog Rocky came over to say hello and were genuinely interested in the conversation. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable with a kettle, fresh cold milk in the fridge and tea / coffee so we could have a hot drink in the morning. For the price it was well worth it whilst visiting family over the festive period. The only constructive feedback I could provide is that we couldn’t work out how to work the extractor fan in the bathroom, which will eventually cause damp (showing a tiny bit on the ceiling), but would definitely recommend
- John (10/5): -
- tim (10/5): -
- Amanda (8/5): Nice stay - Lovely room, fresh milk in room & good breakfast. Could do with some new pillows.
- John (9/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): - Staff were very friendly. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The room was spotless, a great size with lovely ensuite. The blinds and curtains are great at not letting the light in and very little sound from other rooms. Bed for us was uncomfortable. The road outside is very busy so can be quite noisy.
- Paul (10/5): The rooms are nice but the bar and the restaurant are superb. Tremendous food! -
- Meacher (9/5): Highly recommend. - The Fox and Goat was absolutely great. Our room was exactly as expected - clean, warm and nice - with some lovely extra touches like a little bottle of fresh milk in the fridge (not those horrid packets of UHT). The food was really good - a wide variety of choices on the menu from pub classics to daily restaurant-style specials. The pub itself is cozy and comfy. What really sets this place apart though is the people. Every single member of staff - and the owners - go out of their way to be welcoming, helpful and friendly. They are all genuinely lovely caring people and it makes a huge huge difference. We loved them! I strongly recommend the Fox and Goat and we will definitely go back.
- Roger (8/5): - Very nice staff, good shower
- ALEXANDRA (8/5): Very comfortable and excellent food. - Comfortable room, nice and clean. Very good food in restaurant. Bathroom was cold, it would not have been if we had been able to work out how to turn radiator on. Maybe put clear instructions near the radiator to explain how to do it?
- Gill (10/5): Excellent -
- simon (9/5): Friendly staff and good breakfast - Nice room lovely breakfast friendly staff
- Lynnette (9/5): Lovely place very clean comfortable amazing staff food delicious - Quaint comfortable friendly Too many dogs in bar
- Gerald (7/5): B+B looks expensive but evening meal was 5* - The staff were excellent as was the service. The room was good. The breakfast was disappointing- limited choice and no fruit. Portions were small. Instructions on use of the shower would have been helpful/
- Philip (10/5): 100% would stay again - Easy to find, lots of parking, rooms where lovely and warm, showers were hot and powerful, beds very comfortable..
The food was exceptional. Breakfast was perfect and consistent every morning.
The steak and ale pie and mixed grill were both delicious.
The staff extremely polite and friendly.
Grace stopped eating her lunch whiles on her break to help serve as the bar was a little busy. 100% putting the customer first.
Thank you for a great stay. The main road is quite busy and a little loud at times.
- Paul (10/5): - Room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, as was our meal in the evening.
- Helen (9/5): - Really friendly staff. A lovely pub with great looking menu
- Rosalind Catriona (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff, good food, comfortable, clean and convenient accommodation .
- David (8/5): -
- hjpkj (9/5): Solo visitor to WaterPerry opera! - Comfy, big room, bar staff lovely. Bit of noise from road and cars on closing time, but it's a roadside pub so to be expected. Security of window on ground floor on a hot night, right by pub car park ( for solo traveller, could improve with a security latch maybe)
- May (9/5): -
- Mike (10/5): -
- Karen (9/5): -
- Olive (5/5): Disappointing - Staff in restaurant were friendly for evening meal Location of room across courtyard. On Day of leaving it was pouring down. I phoned reception and asked if I could leave key in room so as not to get soaked. Very off hand and said no I had to hand in, in person. The man’s sarcasm behind the bar was not lost on me. Also didn’t like cheap air freshener blocks in bedroom and plastic flowers.
- Pat (10/5): A wonderful 2 night stay - Had a lovely stay @ The Fox & Goat. All the staff were friendly & very efficient & worked as a team to make our stay memorable. The room was large & exceptionally clean & food was great There was no complaints at all
- Paul (10/5): This was our second visit after an equally positive first stay. We will continue to stay here on future stop overs en r - The pub has comfortable accommodation, a lovely bar and restaurant with good food in the evening and at breakfast. The staff are friendly, energetic and enthusiastic. A real joy to stay!
- Margaret (8/5): Food was really nice but a bit on the expensive side and small portions - Having the fridge in the room made a big difference The matress could have been a bit more comfortable, maybe needs replacing. Bit to much give to it. My husband had a poor nights sleep, I was ok though.
- Chris (9/5): -
- John (9/5): - Great service and really good food Nothing
- Geoffrey (10/5): Loved our stay at the Fox and Goat - Friendly and attentive staff, always cheerful despite often being very busy.
Rooms were well appointed, very comfortable and quiet despite being on a busy road. Money well spent on noise insulation.
Excellent food with good variety in the menu. Book ahead as it’s clearly popular with the locals
Great transport link to Oxford with a bus service running by the door. Nothing to speak of. Parking can be tight depending on when you arrive.
- Richard (7/5): Quiet, clean and convenient - quiet and convenient, staff adapted to our changing plans which was really appreciated as we had to change the booking last minute. They also delivered breakfast the night before as we were leaving early which was really appreciated. We were told breakfast would be delivered the night before at approx 8/8:30 however they delivered it at approx 9:30 when we had gone to sleep. However, we understand it was a last minute, unusual request due to unforseen circumstances on our part so we cannot complain.
- Helga (9/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): Excellent accommodation, service and location. - An excellent location for exploring Oxford. We hopped on the bus directly outside the pub and within 25 minutes we were in the centre of Oxford. Very regular bus service.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with local information. The evening meal at The Fox and Goat was fantastic, as was the breakfast.
Would highly recommend and hope to return ourselves.
- Robert (8/5): Very enjoyable - location good, staff very helpful and friendly. The restaurant food excellent. Accommodation clean and comfortable.

- Michael (10/5): Special visit. Special Staff. - Very warm welcome. Accommodation was superb. Room spotless and wonderfully furnished to a high standard.
The staff ! Made us so welcome and made us feel part of the family. Nothing was too much trouble and went over and beyond making sure we had a really memorable stay.
Dinner was excellent. Great variety of both food and drinks. Breakfast also very good with lots of options.
All in all a really great experience. Highly recommended.
We sincerely wish them continued success. 5Star. Didn’t want to leave !!!

- Andrew (8/5): A great country inn serving great food - The Fox & Goat is in a good location, with easy access to M40. The room was great, situated in a converted barn next to the pub - well decorated and furnished, clean and surprisingly quiet. Bed was extremely comfy. The big surprise was the evening menu - whilst the on-line menu seemed to suggest the usual standard pub fare, there were many special options on the blackboards all of which showed some effort and imagination had gone into them. They also had a special steak night going on. No surprise that the restaurant was packed, even on a Wednesday evening. It's a small point but if the car park was tarmac, first impressions would be so much better and there wouldn't be so much dust/dirt transference into the corridor/rooms.
- THOMAS (5/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): Excellent stay and really lovely food in the restaurant. I can particularly thank Grace for her warm welcome and efficie - Very friendly service. Room had all facilities necessary - even fresh milk in the fridge. And plenty of sockets to plug in phones, computers etc. N/A

- Just Maggie (10/5): An absolute winner, clean , comfortable, friendly and great value for money. - Met by friendly staff. Room was large, clean and bright with everything we needed. Small fridge in the room with a little bottle of milk in which was fabulous as those little cartons are never enough. Great selection of beverages plus sachets of oat milk. All perfect thank you.
- Caroline (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - Location was great for us just off the M40, fantastic staff very warm welcome nice bedroom nice ensuite had me to eat in the pub in the evening and I must say it’s some of the best food I’ve ever had again with excellent service from the staff the place was heaving and it was just great Mattress a bit too soft for me, but that’s just my personal preference
- Derrin (8/5): Comfortable stay with fab food. - Great location. Food was delicious with a variety of fish dishes on the menu. Room was a good size and thank goodness there was a fan as it was very hot. Comfortable beds. Fresh milk was a lovely touch. After a little abrupt start, the staff were very nice and helpful. Kettle had to be filled with cups of water as it wouldn’t go under the tap. More hooks in the bathroom would be useful.
- Lesley (10/5): Great stay - Convenient location, comfortable, great food and very helpful and friendly staff
- Alex (8/5): Lovely Staff, Clean comfy room, Good Food! - Lovely staff who were very welcoming and chatty
Lovely room with good size bathroom and comfy bed
Good food Pot of coffee and Juice options would be better in the morning.
- Mark (5/5): Very uncomfortable mattress was the number 1 issue for us. Expensive for a Sunday night. However, a very nice breakfast. - Location and being an independent accommodation No toiletries in the room on arrival, but provided when asked. Very uncomfortable bed mattress, both my partner and myself shared this opinion. Expensive option in comparison to other local hotels/B&Bs/pubs etc. However, I booked this accommodation on this occasion while in the local area as I like to help support independent establishments, but on this occasion the experience fell below expectations and what I would normally expect. Most staff where great and very helpful, a couple not so as table service fell below expectations, especially given the Booking.com rating. On a Sunday the pub closed at 7pm, which I was advised before arrival and offered a refund by the owner, but something to consider if you are staying here on a Sunday.
- Kevin (10/5): This place was fantastic for our needs. The room was spacious and very clean with a wet room. The pub itself was well pa - Located close to the motorway for ease of access, it was very and tidy, with lovely personable, friendly and helpful staff. Nothing.
- Bev (8/5): Great welcoming stay. - Great location and lovely food. A little bit dated accommodation.
- Katja (8/5): -
- Jeroen (10/5): - Zeer fijne en comfortabele Inn. Leuk en handig dat de kamers niet in of boven de pub zelf zijn, maar in een gebouwtje ernaart. Zeer goed gegeten en ontbeten!
- Mike (6/5): Served its purpose - Convenient to where we needed to be Road noise, more of a “truckers” stop than a middle class facility
- Marie (10/5): Great accommodation - Everything - a high level stay in my opinion , you are really looked after
- Marie (10/5): Excellent- will not hesitate to book again - Nice room , comfy bed. The pub was very welcoming and the staff were excellent. Very nice breakfast, Nothing
