Guest Reviews
- Liam (10/5): - Our overall experience at Mola was exceptional. The owner was incredibly accommodating, especially toward my elderly father, thoughtfully ensuring he was placed close to my partner and me during our stay. The area felt very safe, quiet, and deeply rejuvenating, making it the perfect place to unwind.
The level of care and hospitality truly exceeded my expectations, with the owner going above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met. I was genuinely surprised by how welcoming and attentive the experience was.
I will definitely be returning to stay at Mola and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful and restorative escape. Everything was great.
- tim (10/5): We had a lovely time with no worries and no security problems - The staff were very nice and on the ball we didn’t need for anything even when we locked the key in the room the owner Lea us into room at 4 am after a heavy nite
Partying
The pool was nice and breakfast was enough Could of had a more extensive menu
- Michael (7/5): Nice value on a great beach - The location is great, right in the central area of restaurants on the best beach. They have free loungers on a nice stretch of sand gazing out to the gorgeous lagoon. The included breakfast was delicious. Good new bikes can be rented by the day for 50k each. This is one of the better value places to stay near the beach. The photos mostly show the bungalows and the pool. The pool is quite shallow so not as usable as expected but the gorgeous beach and sea are right in front of the place so you probably wouldn’t use it anyway. Be aware a lot of standard hotel style rooms are based in a building at the back behind the bungalows. If you want a bungalow, make sure to verify that is what you are booking. Those rooms are a bit dark without much character.
- Louise (6/5): Good location - Location was great - room was spacious - good insect repellent in room, plenty of sockets , cleaned daily Noise in the morning - caused by repair works , bathroom was a little tired . Breakfast was basic
- Peta-Lee (7/5): - The staff were helpful and accommodating. The restaurant's food was not what international tourists enjoy. More meats and fish would be great on the menu. The breakfast was OK not great.

- Alexandra (10/5): This place is a Way-To-Go place. Highly recommended place. - The place was amazing and it gave me an excellent service. This place is a way to go place. Highly recommended place.
- chriseast (8/5): Affordable and adorable slice of paradise. - Lovely place. Wonderful staff. Basic but more than comfortable for the price. Stunning location.
- Luis (10/5): -
On y reviendra.
- Kel (3/5): Disappointing - Location is good It is rundown and requires a lot of maintenance
Owners seemed very rude and lazy
Staff nice but lacking
Breakfast terrible
Sun lounger cushions very bad, torn and worn umbrellas
Rooms, courtyard and pool need a lot of TLC
- Yacine Koliai (8/5): - Breakfast was a bit modest, I was expecting more international as well but it was acceptable. Nothing was disliked. The bathroom was a bit original too.
- Steve (8/5): Great location, great staff, great rooms - Room was spacious and well appointed. Had a bar fridge. Breakfast was typical but quite good. Beach out front was good for a swim, lounge chairs and umbrellas were excellent. Staff were extremely helpful with transfer advice. They did not offer a restaurant for evening meals but that was fine as the adjacent restaurants were fantastic - Mowies, Mamma Pizza and Papayas 5km walk around the island. Sliding doors were a bit finicky. Cushions on breakfast are seats.
- Klára (8/5): Very good -
- Klára (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - Great location 🙏 Wasn’t anything we didn’t like about Mola2
- Ørjan (5/5): Meh - The location. The store page is set a bit strange. I thought I would get bungalow, but instead a room in a Betong building furthest away from the beach on the hotel property
- Marco (10/5): - Se venite a Gili Air qua c'è tutto. Atmosfera bellissima. Top
- Andrea (1/5): the resort is located in front of the sea, the only positive note. we booked a two-story suite, it looks nice but there - Position cleaning
- Nicola (7/5): Good stay in a great location. - Not as bad as the reviews suggest! Excellent location with a private section of the best beach on the island! Our room was clean and had everything we needed, with a hot shower and decent aircon. Pool towels provided. Good buffet breakfast and helpful staff. The property also has a couple of SUPs which are free for guests to use which is great. Very close to a variety of bars and restaurants.
Price does seem a lot compared to what you get in Bali, however island life is different and things generally cost more and facilities are just more basic in general. Poor WiFi in room (we were at the back so probably why).
The grounds in between look like wasteland and need to be tended to and made useful. The pool, which is desperately needed in the midday heat, is a bit slimy and needs a better cleaner system.
- Ian (8/5): - Mola Mola was in a very good position by the beach and close to the harbour. Rooms were nice, but tired and did need some maintenance. Breakfast was good.
The price was reasonable and we enjoyed our stay.
Veldig hyggelig folk som jobbet her.
- Gudvin (9/5): Great Stay at Mola Resort !!!! - Thanks to the Staff, for a very pleasant Stay, at Mola Resort !
Very nice Beach, nice Breakfast, and e very nice Pool, I think visitors should appreciate it more !!
Comfortable nice Accommodations, Bed's are brilliant.
There's a very nice area between the Accomodations, and the Beach are Private to the Resort !
A fantastic SunSet Area.
Thanks Fellas !!
Bw
Gudvin No complains at all.
- Catherine (8/5): - Very clean. We had a nice 4 night stay.
Breakfast simple and always the same, but ok. You can have it on your beautiful personal terrace.
Two sympatics young ladies are always there if we need something.
The only thing is that we hear everything even our neighbor conversation (as they were in our room). It is VERY not soundproof.
I would go again.
- Cinzia (8/5): Very good -
- Bronwyn (8/5): Great location and spot - Location location location! Great little spot with big spacious aircon rooms. If you forgot your toothbrush - no problem, there is one in the room! The front door can be tricky, and it can all do with a littlenTLC, but really nice. Staff very friendly and so helpful 😊
- Claudia (1/5): Outdated and dirty hotel - Location is good The property is in very bad conditions: swimming pool was green and the sofa in our room had mold. We had to move to other hotel and even so they charged full stay.
- Norleila (7/5): Good location, comfortable beds, attentive staff - Clean private beach, super helpful staff Bachtiar. Quick to resolve issues we faced. Breakfast could be better.
- Timothy (6/5): Very average - Friendly staff Old, run down, not really what I’d expect for the price
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Natalie (7/5): Beautiful sunsets, no where to get ready - The architecture was stunning and it’s beachfront. Meaning you walk out to sunset dinner every night, some of the best sunsets! In the two story bungalows, there is no sitting area other than one chair meaning my partner and I had to take turns sitting in one armchair. There are also NO MIRRORS in the property at all. A friend of ours stayed in the one story and had a massive mirror, desk and lounge area. If you’re a woman, there’s no way to get ready there - except for one tiny mirror in the outdoor bathroom with no electrical socket and it gets dark at 6pm. I wish we’d stayed in the one story villa.
- Carlos (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (7/5): Fine! - Nice accommodation what you can do walking from the port. Nice staff and good breakfast. Price-quality ratio. Very pricey for what it is. Also offer laundry service for IDR 25,000, way too expensive.
- Luke (7/5): Good -
- Liane (6/5): Wouldn’t stay again - Rooms were nice, spacious, clean, aircon good, comfortable big bed, nice furniture. Great location. Staff were very lovely and very helpful. The dirt. There wasn’t really any garden just dirt, a a few large trees. You had to walk through the dirt to get to your room. The room was soooo dark all day, and not enough lights or natural light. We stayed in the single deluxe bungalow ones. The small balcony had 2 uncomfortable chairs. We never sat there because it was always too dark, and uncomfortable. No where to hang up wet costumes and towels. The pool was weird. It had a giant concrete seat (see photo), no one would sit on it. An annoying Polo net on the pool 24/7, a fountain in the spa section. No sun beds to lie on at all. There are some on the Mola website on a big wooden platform, but none in real life. So then you head over to the “private beach”, but there is only 12 Sun beds, 6 umbrellas, 4 of which are so small they are useless. The “private” sun beds could be stayed on by non-guests for the cost of one beer for a whole day. So as a guest, you have very little hope of getting a sun bed, and if you did, there was no cover. It was really annoying. Wish we’d stayed somewhere else for our 5 nights, we nearly moved then couldn’t be bothered with the hassle.
- Dan (8/5): Great staff and beach - The staff are fabulous. They went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome and looked after. The location is also great, a short walk to the port and restaurants and bars next door. The breakfast was nice and the villas have a pool. The beach is beautiful and I think one of the best for relaxing and swimming on the island. The villa was small and dark. The pictures on the website are a creative reflection of the resort. I have added photos of what the resort looks like. The wifi didn’t work in our villa but the staff did help us find a good spot for making a video call, which was greatly appreciated.
- Graydell (9/5): Superb -
- Brett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aireal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shah (1/5): Bad -
- Sven (7/5): Good -
- Schmidt (9/5): Perfect location - The best beach on gili air. Friendly and extremely helpful staff. Pool and beach access where very nice. Hut was pretty standard. Outside bathrooms with many mosquitoes. We should have gotten repellent on the first night...
- Sasha (8/5): Sunset location and big comfy beds - The location is good, not to far from the harbour and beautiful sunset right in front of the hotel. Breakfast was average. They have a cat who wakes up the whole hotel in the night as she crying super loud.
The Pool is nice and the bed is very comfy and big.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay here, breakfast was good & the room was a nice size. The AC wasn't great but it didn't kill the vibe.
- Hamid (10/5): - It’s the best hotel who have stay. The staff is very enjoy. The breakfast is good I would recommend for all people
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a lovely hotel. It’s on the slightly quieter side of the island (although not exceptionally quiet - there are several bars adjacent to the hotel). The location on the beach is perfect and the rooms are spacious, although very dark as not enough lights which makes getting ready in the evenings a bit tricky! The location is perfect for whatever you want to do on the island as it’s such a small place!
- Craig (4/5): Deceptive pictures. Food, Pool and rooms terrible - Pictures are very deceptive. Pool terrible , food awful. Breakfast very poor , flies on food ,very little choice. No sun loungers other than a few plastic chairs in the pool where no-one swims. Lumbung huts ok though walls paper thin. TV volume restricted for this reason though you can barely hear it.
Grounds poor , basically dirty sand that drags into huts and everywhere else. Needs landscaping or paving. Views from most huts poor. Would say this is a 2 star at most and certainly not a resort. Advice is to avoid this place. Gili Air is nice , food near by at Mowies bar or Captain coconuts so much nicer
- Marie (2/5): Horrible stay - I haven't really got anything nice to say about Mola Mola except that the staff is friendly.
Mola Mola is way to expensive compared to what you get. The hotel and the rooms are in generel bad shape - it's not really maintained. And there is no privacy - the walls are paper thin and you can hear all conversations that the neighbors have.
It's very very dusted from the dirt in the "garden" as they call it. It's not a garden but an area with sand/dirt.
There is no area to relax around the pool. We had to put our stuff in the restaurant when we used the pool. There are only some old platic chairs in the pool.
There's plenty of staff at Mola Mola, but none of them seem to know what they are doing. The service level is a joke. They do try but don't succeed as the staff is just not educated at all.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Food was terrible
Room was ok
Staff lovely
Spa treatment was good
Excellent location
- jason (10/5): - Wonderful stay , free massage, great breakfast bike and quiet, excellent staff 5/5
- YUET FAN (10/5): Pleasant stay - We have pleasure stay at Mola, all staffs are nice and helpful. The hotel at the sunset side, so, we can see wonderful setside just in front of the hotel. Room is big enough for couple, and we enjoyed so much of the outdoor shower. They cleaned our room and free 2 bottles of water daily. As a woman with long hair, im appreciated if there is hair dryer provided. We will stay at there again if we came back to a Gili Air
- yen (8/5): - For the price it was great but the food had bugs in them and they didn't cover them. I was not impressed!
- Jessy (4/5): - Location right next to the beach is the biggest plus of this so called ‘resort’. The staff is really kind and trying their best to accommodate guests’ wishes and make their stay pleasant. Good breakfast. The cleanliness of rooms should be improved a lot! Don’t book the basic rooms in the big building, they are depressing, go only for the huts. But for the prices they ask for it, you will get a better choice elsewhere on the island.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful.
When we first got there, my room was not up to our satisfaction, curtains were not up and someone removed the TV box from the back of the TV in our room, they said maintenance forgot to put it in. Air con was also not cold enough and toilet seat was not cleaned properly.
So I went back to reception to request to change to a better room.
The staff there was very friendly and helpful. He immediately changed us to a better room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a great stay at this hotel we got one of the rooms. Air conditioning worked really well and good comfortable bed great location on the island can easily walk from the boat drop off point takes maybe 10-15 minutes
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Getaway! - The linens could have been cleaned a bit better, but otherwise my stay was wonderful. Nice rooms!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location of this hotel is really great- only 7 minutes from the harbor and right on the beach. BUT there were a few things that made our stay less enjoyable such as: an old half eaten cake in our fridge upon check in, ripped curtains (the manager said they are working on updating all the curtains in the rooms- but that doesn't seem like a project that should be taking so long), no adapter or USB plug in the room or available for borrow (we had to walk to the center of the island in the middle of the hot day to buy an adapter. This would be acceptable for a cheap hotel, but I wouldn't expect this from a more expensive hotel on the island), and the hotel condition needs some improvement. We also felt like breakfast could be improved- the eggs and waffles were ok, but the rest of the food was not great. Also, our booking included a full body massage, in which the ladies asked us to undress to our underwear, but did not provide a towel or cover to cover any parts of our bodies. The entire massage was performed without any draping or towel on our bodies. I have had many massages in my life. but have never experienced this before.
- Mark (8/5): Great hotel - A great hotel with excellent customer service.
- Michael (8/5): - Friendly staff, best location and beach with pool. Only thing that could be improved is the housekeeping.
- Alan (8/5): Lovely staff, terrific location - Decent hotel, with a lovely pool and restaurant. We booked a deluxe twin, which it turns out is way at the back and not one of the lovely cottages up front and in all the promotional images. It was good though, spacious and comfortable. We had to ask twice for it to be cleaned on check in as there were a lot of dead insects in the bathroom, other than that the staff were great. Really friendly and helpful. They do a barbecue menu with buffet each night, which is worth going to regardless of where you stay. Overall a pleasant stay: hotel is rough around the edges but staff and location elevate it.
- Anna (10/5): Best Hotel on Gili Air! - I cannot say enough good things about Mola Mola! I will not stay anywhere else on Gili ever again. The service was so great! Their concierge, Wayan, was the nicest and most lovely person I have met in a long time. I was alone and she invited me to dinner with her at the restaurant and I had a great meal and wonderful conversation with her. They also gave me vouchers for a few free drinks and a free 30 minute back massage. It rained one night really bad and they called my room and asked if I would like to order room service and brought me the full menu to order from instead of just the room service menu. The free bikes to ride around the island were also a fun perk! The beach in front of the hotel is the best spot to watch the sunset. I will most definitely stay here again!! Thank you Mola Mola for taking such good care of me.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Although the kindness and the good disposition of the personal, the hotel wasn't the exact thing that in the photos (beach photos). We booked a deluxe suite, and due to the weather (heavy rain), we've been changed two times, and we ended in a Lembong Suite (which is better). We lose three days of pool due to maintenance for the weather as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location. Had a rough start with check-in and cleanliness of the room. However, the hotel staff stepped up and did everything they could to make things right, which I appreciated. I had an enjoyable stay and compared to other resorts on the island, I would recommend this resort. Bed was comfortable and the AC worked well.
- Sarah (10/5): Absolute Weiterempfehlung!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location - The friendliest staff we have ever met. Great location right on the beach. Good breakfast choice. Would recommend upgrading to lumbang suites. Only negative is the government have now allowed parties til 2am at some of the bars so if it’s the turn of the bar next to Mola Mola it’s really loud music til late.
- Klew (8/5): Simple Gili Hangout - 1st time visit to the Gili Air & the 2 other Gilis. Great concept w/o automobile except cart & ponies on the 3 Gilis.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The worst anyone can imagine. Checked in and the room was dirty, stains on the floor and bathroom counter was filthy. The condition was worst than a hostel. Hotel staff were rude, not apologetic at all. The worst experience and the pictures posted on your website are not accurate at all. We were put in a white building that you don’t even describe in the pictures. This was so bad I checked out a few hours of checking in. I will be taking this further unless something is done by yourselves
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quiet and tidy - Friendly staff. Cheap snorkelling. Fastboat service from pandangbai to gili air is unorganized.
- Verified traveler (10/5): satisfied with everything, recommended! - was great! perfect place to stay in gili air! not too far from the dock, but far enough to have quiet place, right by the beach, nice little pool.. got upgraded to lumbung but prefer the deluxe suite instead - they were flexible to let us choose.
- Mark (6/5): The place is ok, but some major faults. Needs work - The good, the room was nice, we had one of the huts on the right, nice bed, aircon works! Loved the outdoor shower, can sometimes hear the neighbors but noting to over the top. Happy with the room!
We had no problem checking in on time at 2pm but many others were waiting to check in, we had read this as a negative issue but feel the feedback is really people not understanding that the rooms won’t be ready till 2pm. Good tip is to plan your travel day to arrive for 2pm and not 9am
The checkin desk is small, out of place and unorganised, seems clear here isn’t a manager leading this team at mola mola, Iv also never been to a place that makes you sine beach towels out, we didn’t return ours for 2days but noticed someone have written them as returned (bazaar what’s the point) ?
The bad
the dirty sand that connects all major areas on the hotel grounds is horrible. This dirt is simply just being dragged into all the rooms. Getting into our room was a daily challenge as the key pass either worked and didn’t open the door or it wouldn’t lock the door when we wanted to go out. The sliding doors were a bit confusing as well, maybe even uneseserry in the grand scheme of things.
The pool, due to the sandy dirt it makes it impossible to dry without being covered in dirt when you get out. We didn’t use the pool due to this and there was a lack of sunbeds and shades on there beach at the front nor was there staff asking if you wanted drinks.
It’s got potential but it’s not quit there
- Paige (8/5): Amazing breakfast, over-priced rooms - Right across from the beach (has a lot of rubble), this hotel/villa combo has a clean pool at the front of the property and beside the restaraunt. The buffet and made-to-order breakfast (including pancakes, waffles, eggs, etc) was the best breakfast we had on the island! When I booked the room I had thought it was for a private villa, but it was just for one of the very basic hotel rooms hidden at the back of the property on the 3rd floor. Very over priced for a basic hotel room compared to prices of other private villas on the island and nearby. The breakfast made it worth it. A decent number of beach chairs provided on the beach, and within close walking distance to the harbour.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Service is somewhat slow and special requests have to be made at the front desk (eg. whatever you put when reserving through hotels.com isn't seen by the hotel). Hotel is cute and small, right in front of the beach.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location and courtesy - We stayed in the Deluxe Suite, which has a big room and the private bathroom outside, open roof but very intimate. The hotel is right at the beach and the location is great to watch the sunset. Staff is very friendly. Every night you can hear music from the beach till midnight. Once music went on till 4am and since we couldn’t sleep they accommodated our complaint and even moved us to a different room, far from the street. Excellent customer service
- Verified traveler (6/5): Where were the pictures of the room we stayed? - The hotels.com pictures look great, and they might be accurate, if we had stayed at one of the nice rooms which are depicted, but we didn’t, we stayed at a warehouse building on the back which is not depicted on any picture at hotels.com. I felt this was cheating. If we had knew this, we would have paid more for the better rooms, but we had to settle for the cheap looking storage room. Inside, you could see all the conduits for the electric installations, really bad taste in design and oddly enough, from one of these electrical conduits, a drop of water (god knows from where it came) continuously dropped on the TV really near to the electric socket, that was a little bit scary. The door was also not easy to open.
The service was so slow and they seemed not to be entirely aware of what we had asked, one night we waited more than half an hour for a drink which at the end we decided not to drink. Only the guy at the front desk and one of the guys which was regularly cooking at breakfast and at the grill seemed quite awake and pretty helpful.
The food was always delicious, I think that was a good highlight. Also location was good, away from the port but quite close to walk with our heavy backpacks.
Overall, maybe if we had known about the rooms we were staying a priori or if we had stayed in a different room, my review would be higher.
- Sean (8/5): Nice room & location :) - Lovely resort with many positives but some improvements needed. Deluxe room was perfect and stylish (better than the Lumbung suite). It was clean, modern, spacious with a sofa, TV, huge bed and aircon. The bathroom is outside and again was clean and modern (shower was amazing) plus it is sheltered. Breakfast was excellent with an eggs station that provided omelettes, pancakes and waffles. Lunch/Dinner at the hotel is yummy too. The location is great, near lots of good restaurants and bars and they provide bicycles to get around the island free of charge. The beach is on your doorstep so we spent most of our time there. The pool is nice but a little run down for me and there is no option to sunbath next to it. Staff are very friendly but at times a little unorganised (possibly under staffed).
- pat (10/5): Individual huts around pool adjacent to beach - Paid to upgrade rooms which were individual huts around the pool . Very clean . Breakfast was a very big choice and they made omlettes / pancakes etc to order freshly made juice. Ate in the restaurant in the evening on open bbq and food of good quality ..only sad couldnt have stayed longer ...definately go back ..Be aware however close to Temple and can hear singing at dawn break
- Joanne (10/5): Friendly hotel right on beautiful beach with views - Mola 2 is right on a beautiful beach which is safe for swimming. Breakfast is excellent and the staff are all so lovely and friendly. We also got an amazing cooking class for free which was a lovely idea. Very comfortable bed and pillows too.
Only downsides:
-they need to provide more shade on the beach- there were only 5 or 6 sunshades which wasn't enough in the heat of the day
-the outdoor bathrooms were fine with great showers but there needs to be some shade out there if you have a shower during the day
-the staff were really hard working but they need better systems in place for busy times at breakfast and dinner.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel at the beach - We stayed at Mola Mola one night before changing island. Very good breskfast and nice rooms. The staff was ok.
- stephen (10/5): Beautiful hotel but remember this is island living - The location is right on the beach with a great pool to enjoy on these hot island days. The free breakfast was nice. The rooms are set up well but it’s island living so there are things you have to remember. A big flaw is that the bathroom is outside behind the room. Every time we went to use the toilet we were attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes. And as much as I love outdoor showers, my parter was showering and a GIANT spider crawled up his leg. That was more of a fluke, but it can happen. Another big issue is that because it’s an island the electricity went out many times a day. They should have some sort of generator to remedie this problem. Also, one night during a rain storm we woke to a leak in he ceiling that was directly over our heads in bed. The next day they moved us to another room and that was fine.
It’s a great hotel but be prepared for “island issues.”
- Verified traveler (6/5): Lovely spot on the island - Great location, good breakfast, rooms clean and with appealing outdoor shower, but limited places to sit out of the sun as the umbrellas were nearly all broken. Lucky next door's facilities could be used for the simple purchase of a drink. A very relaxing stay.
- mkb (8/5): Nice Hotel, close to the beach - It was nice. The photo was misleading--the rooms do not open to the beach. The room had no lock, which was disconcerting. It took two days to get it fixed. I think we could have moved to a different room, but instead, we made sure there was nothing valuable left in there.
- Nynke (8/5): - Simple hotel with nice little restaurant.
Lovely island with only horses and bikes for traffic, very quiet ambience.
The hotel rooms are very noisy, but comfy beds and good air condition,
- Verified traveler (4/5): - As a hotels.com/Expedia customer I’m often given the worst room at a resort even though we spend equal or more to other customers (why?). Mola Mola was no exception. The daily boat to the island arrived at 11am, but I was the last guest to receive access to my room around 4pm. I wasn’t even offered water during my wait. When I finally got in, it was the only room without a mosquito net (needed). NOTE: the entire bathroom (toilet, sink, and shower) are all outside (Not great given the daily tropical showers and mosquitos) and viewable from the stairs above. Food at restaurant was below average for the island.
