Das Zentrum mit Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten ist nur 5 min zu Fuß entfernt. Es gibt nette Aufenthaltsmöglichkeiten im Hostel und die Zimmer sind geräumig und haben alles, was man braucht und sind gut durchdacht mit vielen Ablagemöglichkeiten.

Had someone making eggs in the morning.

- U3103BWfrancescap (10/5): Very helpful staff and homey hostel - The staff here were so so helpful. They helped me to book my buses, were so quick with laundry and helped me find a place to fix my broken sunglasses. They also went above and beyond when I rang them in the middle of a tour after realising I hadn’t locked my locker in my dorm and was worried about my bag - they went and got my bag and held it safely behind reception till I got back from my tour. The hostel is very homey with small dorms, cosy beds and a nice sitting area and garden. Breakfast is also included (not a huge selection but does the job) and they offer a packed lunch service for tours.

But we had to move to another room after one night, very loud from street noises and extremely thin walls. If next door neighbors stay up late, you can’t sleep as you hear every noises, alarm ringing. But the staffs were extremely friendly and helpful in everything.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Helpful but run down - Front desk is extremely helpful but the facility is run down and not clean (especially the back area where the refrigerators and small courtyard are). The single beds are too small and move around easily (not very heavy beds). They're not standard size twin beds. The location is great though, very close to town. Breakfast is the same every day and not much to be desired.
- nga (10/5): HIGHLY RECOMMEND! - Tremendous value for your $. We highly recommend this place. Just know place does feel a bit like a hostel. The walls are thin and the breakfast was very basic (though they do provide scrambled eggs upon request). However, the beds are very comfortable. There’s also a kitchen if you feel like cooking abd they have the best staff who’ve helped us with taxis, places to eat, etc., etc. DO NOT pay in advance. Wait till you get there and pay in pesos (they give an excellent exchange rate so you save A LOT). We were happy with our 3 nights there.

- DirkV650 (10/5): Charming superfriendly guesthouse ! Book it ! - What an absolute gem of a place . The three bed room looking towards the garden ( nr 19 ) was spacious and quiet . There is a lounge to sit , read and talk . The kitchen is alright . Breakfast is good and you can order eggs any style . And the whole is located smack jn the center near everything . But lhe real reason for this excellent review is the personnel both front desk as kitchen . Eleine and Sophie n Know EVERYTHING about ANYTHING , give handy info about tours , prices , arrange cabs , always good humored always smiling . Arriving very early in morning after a night flight , they prepared our room really fast and offered free breakfast . This is an example of how a place should be run !
- wanderlustbea (10/5): Unpretentious youth hostel with great public space and very helpful staff - We stayed two nights in this hostel - overall it’s a good-value-for-the-price deal. Rooms, amenities and breakfast are basic but for the price we paid, it’s a fair deal. The room is clean and although the room doesn’t come with an electric kettle and hairdryer, there is hot water (and tea) in the public area and hairdryer could be borrowed upon request. The hostel has a spacious public area with good WiFi, which is a nice space for backpackers to do their travel research. Another highlight is that the staff are all very helpful, cheerful and speak fluent English. We read reviews about rooms could be noisy but since our room was facing the shared kitchen so it was not an issue for us.

Stay here for the most friendly, helpful, genuine staff. - My friend and I stayed in a private room at Hostel Schilling two separate times during our trip in Argentina. It became our home away from home and favorite place that we stayed during our travels. Something magic is in the water and Ramiro, Sofie and every other staff member that we interacted with are enthusiastic about helping you and genuinely care about making sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. Breakfast is delicious with fresh fruit, toast, fresh scrambled eggs, hummus, chickpeas and sweet breads. The location of the hostel made it really easy to walk pretty much everywhere we needed to go while feeling enough away from the Main Street to be quiet. Its a hostel, you will hear some noises in the hallways and outside you room but overall quiet and we slept great while there. Go ahead and book your stay, you won't regret it!

Cecilia, Ramiro and Sophie helped me plan and organize several excursions in the area of Patagonia. They made me feel like part of the family. They also helped me to make reservations all over Patagonia during the high season when availability is limited and it is difficult to make reservations. I would highly recommend staying at Schilling.

Están en todos los detalles: te prestan tappers para las excursiones q no incluyen viandas, desayuno (super completo) desde las 6.30 hs porq hay excusiones q te pasan a buscar a las 7 am, servicio de lavandería muy bueno, cocina muy bien equipada, té y cafè libre todo el día, tienen excursiones para venderte ahí en caso q llegues a ultima hora cuando todo está cerrado como fue mi caso para q no pierdas el día, etc etc etc. Habitaciones limpias, calefaccionadas y colchon muy cómodo. No dudaría en volver a Schilling si vuelvo a Calafate, realmente como en casa me sentí.

- RuudKok (10/5): Great hostal - We booked a double room and it was good. We had a third bed in it and also a dresser and a chair. The walls are a bit thin so it can be a bit noisy. The bathroom was good except for the shower. That wasn’t that powerful.. The hostal has a large livingroom where you can hang out, do puzzles or relax coloring. The dining area is big as well. The kitchen is very well equipped. The staff is all very friendly and helpful and can help to figure out what tour to do. The citycenter is very close. We had a wonderful stay here and would definately book it again if we would visit El Calafate again.

They know everything and really help you make the most of your trip to Patagonia. I would definitely come back again. It is really close to the town and they serve eggs with breakfast which is really nice since so many places only do toast and coffee.

The guy at reception was brilliant at helping us find fantastic tours, book the best restaurants and spoke fantastic English. Breakfast was very good, the rooms had good heating (but beds were quite small and shower wasn’t great). Would stay again 100%.
- MariaCachi (10/5): Great homely hostel, best value for money - We stayed for a couple of nights and absolutely loved it. The hostel has a very homey feeling to it. We arrived late due to a delayed flight and staff were really Lind and helpful, facilitating check out for everyone who arrived with us, showed us around and gave us advice on places to go for a bite. Our room had everything we needed. The common facilities are excellent, with plenty of space to hang out. Breakfast was by far the best one in our whole trip through Argentina, with a large variety of options (cakes, cereals, bread, and eggs available upon request). The cakes were clearly homemade, baked in their kitchen but their lovely staff, and super tasty. They prepare a packed lunch upon request which was great for us, as we arrived late and had a day trip booked for the next day where we were asked to carry our own meal. Staff answered all of our questions really helpfully throughout our stay. It’s also just one block away from the Main Street, so very easy to walk there to go out for dinner, shopping or just a stroll. We will definitely recommend it. Picture of my packed lunch!

- lauzain (10/5): Excellent! - I loved staying at Schilling. We stayed for 4 nights and could have honestly stayed for a few more days. Staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms are very comfortable and cozy. Location is great. The hostel is very spacious, it as a kitchen area where you can cook and eat. It also has a cool living room with a lot of boardgames available for you to use. Loved staying here and would definitely recommend the place to other travellers. It also has a cute little garden!
- pmichalski (6/5): Great Staff, OK Rooms, Terrific Value - We decided to try Schilling on our journey back from Chalten when we had a one night layover in Calafate before flying out. It is great value but it is a hostel--not a hotel. Here are the pros and cons. PROS --Very inexpensive --Front desk staff spoke the best English of any hotel we stayed in (and we stayed at some very nice hotels). They were very friendly and helpful. --Breakfast was more than we expected. Even scrambled eggs were included (cheerfully made to order by a wonderful woman named Grace) --Great location just two blocks from the town center. --They do have comfortable lounge areas and sell beverages (juice, soda, beer and wine). Unfortunately their restaurant is permanently closed. CONS --Parking is on the street --Rooms are small, dark and tired. Shower pressure is adequate but not great. --It was very noisy at night. People singing outside, glass breaking and a guy vomiting somewhere.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable and convenient - Great vibe and staff. The facilities are basic, but functional and clean. Very close to the main street through town. We stayed there several days, enjoying the included breakfast each morning and used their laundry service once. Great hostel!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hostel - Very friendly hostel in a great location. It is a 5 minute walk to the main business district with loads of restaurants and shopping. Nothing in the hostel is new, but everything is clean and they go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. I used their laundry service and they helped me with some travel logistics. the breakfast in the morning has basic toast and cakes typical of Argentina but also fresh scrambled eggs. I stayed here 4 nights and would stay here again.
- Mark (10/5): Brilliant hostel. - Brilliant hostel. We booked a private room. Breakfast was included and was good for the price. Staff were very helpful with booking tours. Would recommend. We were a couple aged 55 and 67.
- bruce (6/5): - Good location re the center of El Calafate. Some outside noise. A lot of inside noise. Management should put sponge around the room door frames to minimize the noise of door banging when closed. Walls are very thin (seem thin) because we could hear everything going on in the adjacent room. The breakfast egg chef was not at her station, she was having coffee talking with the receptionist. We did not use the wifi.

- Mallory (10/5): Great family place to stay! - Great location in El Calafete, about 5 minute walk to downtown and 25 minute walk to Lago Argentina. The buses to El Chalten will pick you up at the hostel. The bus station is a 5 minute taxi ride from the bus station. Helpful and friendly bilingual staff have great recommendations and will help book tours, taxis, buses, etc. we were traveling with a 15 month baby and they have cribs available. This was our second stay here in a couple of years and it was excellent both times!
- K (10/5): Excellent hostel, great value for money - Double room with private bathroom was excellent, perfect for a travelling couple. Room was clean, well heated and shower was good. It was also excellent value for money. Staff were very helpful in assisting with booking buses to El Chalten, and also gave us 10% discount coupon for our trip to the Glaciarium (which is well worth a visit to learn more about glaciers before you go to Perito Moreno). There is communal kitchen access from midday until 10pm which is great for those looking to cook themselves - they have multiple gas hobs and two ovens. The communal area is also welcoming with a variety of board games and puzzles to keep you entertained. Breakfast consisted of toast and jams, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, and also a selection of cakes. Breakfast started at 6.30am but the staff were very accommodating in allowing for an even earlier start time if necessary for those who had an early bus or an early tour booked in the morning.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Homey and welcoming - The staff is very helpful and I love that the kitchen is available. I stayed in a dorm for three nights and a single for one night, each were comfortable and clean. The showers are dated but the water was always warm.
- Verified traveler (6/5): a little expensive for what you get - It was a fine guesthouse, but definitely a little pricey for what you got. The common areas were well maintained and comfortable. The included breakfast was one of the best we had in Patagonia (eggs!). Hot water intermittent and the hotel had strange rules, wouldn’t even let a friend of ours come into our room for a few minutes before heading out on a hike. We felt a bit like we were sneaking around if we asked if anything slightly out of ordinary. Perfect location in Chalten and easy access to main hiking trails.

- CRS (8/5): Enjoyable stay in El Calafate - The hostel is located near the main street, restaurants and businesses. The staff is very helpful and internet works quite well for Patagonia! Also, common areas are actually nice to hang out/work and the kitchen is clean and well equipped. We had a room for two which was quite spacious, but it could have been a little warmer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stayed for three days - I liked the communal kitchen; dishes for cooking, cutlery, stove was provided and it appeared that everyone cleaned up after themselves. People were very helpful and shared excursion stories. Stuff was very welcoming and assisted with making reservations and providing suggestions on where to go, where to shop. The furniture in the communal area is a little "tired", but otherwise, this hostel fit exactly our expectation. We especially liked the little inner garden with the cherry trees.
- Kenneth (8/5): Charming but basic - The staff is friendly and helpful. The building has a nice character. The breakfast was mediocre and repetitive. What is really, really needed are hooks in bedroom and bathroom to keep clothing off the floor.
- Danielle (10/5): Great place to stay in El Calafate - We stayed here for two nights during our trip to Patagonia. The location is great: it's one block away from the main drag (Avenida Libertador) but was removed enough that it wasn't too busy or loud. Our room was simple but comfortable, two twin beds with a private bathroom. Pretty clean overall and good shower pressure. The real highlight of Schilling is the staff, which are very knowledgeable and friendly (especially Antonella). She helped us to book a bus trip to Perito Moreno with pick up from the hostel itself, so we didn't have to make a separate trip to the bus terminal. Only con is that the wifi in the room was not that reliable. Overall, we would highly recommend staying here during a visit to El Calafate!

- Susan (10/5): Visit to El Calafate - The staff was friendly and very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. Rooms were basic but had everything one would needfor a stay. They had a nice lobby in which to sit and chat with other guests.
- William (10/5): Great people. Great location. Great hostel. - This is a family run hostel. The space is Amazing. Open. Inviting. The family that runs it could not have been any nicer. A part of me wanted to stop traveling and stay there for a while. Best place I’ve stayed in a long time.
- barbara (10/5): A great hostel to stay in. central El Calafate - A great breakfast and very warm hostel. Clean and easy to walk everywhere. We had a private room but you can get a shared dorm if you want. What makes it so great are the friendly staff who helped us and were so kind.
