Guest Reviews
- Lila (8/5): -
- Astrid (1/5): - Lady of the house was very friendly. Manager Youssef has a very bad temper. He appears friendly but is very intimidating and agressive in his communication. Totally respectless and unacceptable. That overshadowed what could have been a very nice stay.
- Angela (9/5): - The welcoming manager and friendly helpful staff. Ruda and her colleague in the kitchen were delightful.
Lovely room and ensuite.
Pretty rooftop terrace.
O quarto (no terraço) é espaçoso e a cama confortável. Aproveitamos imenso do terraço.

Rien
- Jean Christophe (8/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Very good. -
- Maria Purificacion (7/5): - Habitación grande y espaciosa. Desayuno rico, personal amable y hay terraza. Zona apartada y tranquila.

- Theo (10/5): They made it perfect. - The location of the Riad was perfect and we are so Happy with selected this pertucular spot.
Everything from the room to the terrace was excellent. But why i gave it a 10/10 is because of the service of the staff.
I traveled with my grandfather and i cannot in words express how thankful i am for all the help we got from the Riad. From providing us with tips around the city to booking different events/experenices and transportation for us.
I Will definetly come back to stay at the Riad once more.
- Bettina (6/5): - It was clean, the staff was really nice and there were options to sit and relax. The room had no windows or any type of working ventillation but the bathroom was in the same space as the bedroom.
- Lea (9/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): -
- Chantelle (10/5): Beautiful Riad, superb hospitality, wonderful experience - Beautifully designed and comfortable Riad in a peaceful, safe street in easy proximity to the Medina, souks and main attractions. The rooms are clean, cosy and well appointed, with a lovely patio and a standout rooftop terrace and pool. Our room offered comfort and privacy with a dedicated entrance and private patio. Breakfast is delicious and authentically Moroccan. The manager and staff are exceptionally hospitable and accommodating, attentive to special dietary needs and happy to help with recommendations. Immaculately kept throughout, a five-star recommendation. We will definitely come back. I could not think of anything that would make our stay any better.
- Christine (9/5): Great stay in beautiful Riad - Beautiful modernised Riad, very well placed for all the top sights, including the Mosque and the Saadian tombs, but on a quiet street. Great roof top with pool and loungers. Room lovely with a fabulous bathroom. Super friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble Nothing
- Paul (10/5): -
- Asta (3/5): - Nice and spacious riad. Verry rude staff. Was verry complain.
- TOTO95420 (9/5): -
- Saida (9/5): Personeel was top!
Accomodatie in z’n geheel. Mooi ingerichte riad.
- jan (6/5): Modern riad , well designed but for us not a good welcome and not good stay - Modern riad and well designed Manager questionned us unfriendly at welcomr who we were and our luggage. We had made reservation and gave already pasports. We came from 3 days walking. It set a tone of not brink welcome. Roof terras swiming pool looks different.
- Tom (9/5): -
- peter (10/5): Unbeatable location and friendly service - This riad-
...is in a quiet area, but close to koutobia mosque and the djemaa el fna
- altho Marrakesh is mainly made of motorbikes, you can't hear them here
- it's very safe. It's near the walls of the royal palace, which are constantly guarded
- the hosts attended to our every need. Very friendly.
- the building looks good enough for a high fashion photo shoot. Beautiful design. I think this applies to all of Morocco, so it's not a criticism of this riad- more savoury, less sweet, at breakfast, would be nice.
- Branislav (10/5): - Beautiful Riad. Close to the Medina but yet tucked in in a peaceful and quiet alley with a park bordering one side of it...so it''s really quiet. Quality sleep guaranteed :) service is immaculate. RRooftop pool is standout feature of this Riad. All in all 5 star recommendation Nothing at all
- Alba (10/5): -
- Fernando (10/5): Amabilidad, limpieza y céntrico pero tranquilo - Limpieza, instalaciones, habitación cómoda, piscina siempre disponible. Personal siempre atento y amable, temperatura perfecta. Cerca del centro a pie y muchos taxis cerca. Desayuno rico, bien en cantidad pero monótono
- Grace (9/5): Amazing Location and Big Spacious Rooms - Perfect location, could walk everywhere and very safe. Loved the top terrace, was perfect for sunbathing. The pool was a little cold.
- Philippa (8/5): We enjoyed our stay, we would recommend to other visitors - Location
Very friendly staff
Relaxing Same breakfast every morning
The lighting in the shower, very dark
- Francois-xavier (6/5): Pleasant -
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Katy (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (9/5): A comfortable, authentic Riad with friendly, welcoming hosts. - Clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable able. Friendly hosts. N/a
- Benjamin (7/5): Good -
- Héni (9/5): Superb - The riad was very comfortable and offered privacy and tranquility. The staff were amazing, Houda and Youssef, always made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.
- Travel07222375152 (10/5): Great stay in Marrakech - Great stay, we were received on the main street by Youssef that showed us the way to the Riad. Alone, maybe it would have been hard to find, but once you know, it is ok and very well located. From the beautiful decorated terrace with a small pool you have view to a very relaxing garden on your left.
The rooms and the riad look recently renewed, very well decorated and comfortable, small and calm. Super friendly staff.
We had breakfast (included in the booking price), which was tasty and fresh. On the night we arrived we ask for dinner since we were arriving late. It was a selection of salads/entries and a Tagine. Although quite tasty, we considered it a bit overpriced.
We had complementary bottled water on the room. Highly recomended.
- Laurent (9/5): Superb - Nice and modern breakfast area is nice but a common table . you can like it or not
- Yulia (10/5): A place where you feel at home - It was my second stay at la Source du Desert and all I can say is that it's your place to be in Marrakech. I've seen some people opting for luxury hotels or apartments but nothing really beats a Riad experience as you get the feeling you're living with a family. Youssef and his team are nicest people who make sure you have everything you need for your stay.
Riad is situated in a very quiet neighbourhood, so if you have concerns about safety in a big vibrant city, here you can really feel safe even at night. There's Royal palace in close proximity and you always have national security guard around + people in this neignbourhood are extremely polite and friendly.
Also, you can reach all the destinations like Djema el-Fna, medina, Bahia palace, dar El Bacha Museum, Medersa Ben Youssef by foot as there are literally less than 20-30 minutes walk.
All in all, I can't recommend this Riad enough and will definitely come back again.
- Companion67291394369 (8/5): April 2024 Marrakech family visit staying in a Riad. - This was our first time in a Riad and also Morocco. We chose the Riad as we prefer the smaller more intimate 'hotels' when taking trips.
The Riad is run by a local man called Youssef who will do anything he can to help you enjoy your stay. The rest of the team consists of 2 local ladies who keep the place spotlessly clean and tidy and prepare the breakfasts.
The location of the Riad on arrival is down a couple of typical Moroccan streets and initially is very hard to find, especially if you arrive at night. Advice here is to ask your taxi driver (from the airport) to call the Riad in advance of arrival and ask Youssef to meet you which he is very happy to do.
The Riads bedrooms are well kitted out with, TV, safe, air-conditioning and very good shower facilities (shampoo, body soaps & hairdryer all in the room). Towels are replaced daily if you leave them on the bathroom floor and the room and bed is also cleaned and made daily. On the roof (where our room was located) you'll find a very intimate and quiet area for eating should you wish along with a dip pool with sunbeds and parasols (no need to reserve!).
On the minus side, and I'm being a tad picky, should you book the Standard King-size room (the one on the roof) you will need to make sure you personally tie back the awning outside the room or you'll find it impossible to sleep as the breeze/wind blows it around making awful noises!
The Riad provides WiFi (which is great for those of us who need it) which works adequately in the downstairs lounge area and bedrooms, however please note there is no internet available by the dip pool sunbathing area.
There is a coffee making machine in the lounge area (please note you'll get changed 20 dirhams per cup. Also water is offered and you get the impression its free however you will get charged.
Taxis are the way to get around Marrakech and Youssef is more than happy to arrange these for you. Please take note though that they are very expensive and we try to charge you more than you agreed! The best bet is to download the app - I Drive and book through these. Basically they're like Uber but incredibly cheap! Don't panic here though thinking cheap means a dreadful car because in reality the cars were better than the regular taxis!
That just about sums up the stay as far as the Riad is concerned and getting to and from the airport etc.
Marrakech itself in the Medina area, unfortunately is very dirty and full of cheap fake goods shops and unlicensed tour guides who will pester you. You obviously won't go to Marrakech without wanting to explore the Medina so it is advisable to book a licenced guide.
While on our visit we engaged with Hicham (Marrakech Behind The Walls - Tel: +212707078191 or you'll find him on Instagram: marrakech_behind_the_walls). Hicham has a wealth of knowledge and contacts of Marrakech being born, raised and educated there and speaks perfect English. As a registered guide he will show you all around the Medina, introduce you to some working locals, get you some street food and take the costs out of your tour price. The tour cost under €20 euros pp and lasts over 3 hours.
The other end of Marrakech, known as Gueliz, is where you'll find all the designer shops and much better quality restaurants. Incredibly, these restaurants are cheaper than what they charge the tourists in the Medina area of the city. It is highly recommended that you eat mists nights in the area.
Lastly, especially if you have young children with you or maybe older relatives, please note that the driving in Marrakech is absolutely mental! ... You're lucky if they stop at red lights (so don't take your eyes off the road when crossing. The city is besieged with small motorcycles and they are everywhere. On the paths, in the squares around the Medina and they have the right to ride down all the very small streets. The rule of safety here is you always stay to your right!
Should you wish to travel for an hour on the horse driven carriages then there is no set price I can give you here but always negotiate around 60% of what they're asking.
I hope this has and will be useful to you when you visit Marrakech and I hope you have a wonderful experience.
- H7405ZRdanielc (6/5): Aesthetically Beautiful, breakfast disappointing - Stayed here as a family of 4, booked 2 seperate rooms. The Riad is beautiful well decorated and maintained with an open communal area that is shared and lively rooftop pool and area, Riad is quite difficult to find for the first time but easy thereafter. The hosts are nice and welcoming and you can enter and exit whenever you want as you are provided with a key. Each room has a lockable safe and is cleaned daily. Coffee and water is chargeable which is not a problem but was not mentioned. The one drawback is the breakfast some bookings it's included but some you have to pay in the region of £20/€23 although the food os well presented it is never worth this price so I would recommend going elsewhere. Youssef is kind and helping but be careful with prices quoted as taxis are cheaper on an app called InDrive. Overall would be happy to return here.

- Lady (8/5): Very good - Bedroom was a nice size Bed squeaked when we moved. The curtains on the outside pergola covering the courtyard made a terrible squeaking noise all night long (metal on metal). Fortunately on our 2nd night my husband moved the curtains and pushed together giving everyone staying at the riad a peaceful night sleep. Staff should maybe shut them in the evening.
- Yulia (10/5): Beautiful Riad with very friendly staff - Staying at this Riad was a great experience- you are treated very friendly and basically have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The room was clean and cosy, the patio and terrace - beautiful and the breakfast they serve is also amazing. Would definitely recommend staying here.
- iangI3651SW (2/5): Awful experience - Booked in by my company.
Awful location.
Dark alleyways
No food... breakfast... dinner...
Terrace... I was told it was a building site
Saw my bedroom... looked nice
No pool available to use
This booking was covering one night during Ramadan... I left.
I did not even think about trying to get my money back...
- Robin (8/5): Very good -
- Khaled (7/5): Good -
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maheen (8/5): It was a good stay and the staff was great. - The staff was exceptional here- the mama lady chef was so sweet and brother Yousef was really just such a gentleman. He just took care of everything and was on call to answer questions and made sure we had what we needed. Really amazing kind people. Didn’t like that the shower and the toilet and sink were in the open like that there is no door- just a wall that separated the room and bathroom area- it would have been nice to have a door for the bathroom.
- Catalin (9/5): The cleanliness was impeccable! - This riad was charming, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The cleanliness was impeccable, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere that made our stay comfortable. The highlight, was the delightful breakfast and the rooftop. Highly recommended for a an enjoyable experience. While our stay at the riad itself was fantastic, it's worth noting that the surrounding area wasn't the best. While it didn't affect our overall experience within the riad, it's something to consider for those who prioritize a well-lit neighborhood.
- Laurent (8/5): Very good -
- Henrina (10/5): Will only be booking this riad in Marrakech - The property is very clean and well kept. It is amazing inside and the rooms are designed beautifully. Will definitely be coming back to this Riad again There was nothing at all I didn’t like. Everything was beyond what I had expected which is why I have given it a 10!
- Tony (9/5): Great place but not matched by thier customer service - Location and stylish decor Welcome efforts by staff were minimal effort . We had a noon flight and they didn’t want to do an breakfast at 8.00 am .
- Daniel (10/5): amazing - Location is amazing. breakfast very good. moroccan style and very delicious.. staff is amazing. very clean Riad. no bathroom Doors or Privacy
- Lee (8/5): Nice hotel, tranquil atmosphere, excellent rooftop terrace area. - The interior of hotel is tranquil and has a real Zen feeling to it. The room was absolutely fine, spacious, clean and decorated with local touches. We slept soundly in the bed. Breakfast was very good and the ladies who work in the kitchen could not have been more helpful and welcoming, they were a big part of our experience there, always on hand. The rooftop terrace and small pool were sublime, again really tranquil and an amazing place to chill out. A small fridge and a kettle in the room is a recommendation. Car parking is a good 5 minutes (400 metres) away on foot.
- Kimberley (10/5): Lovely place, lovely staff, would recommend - Youssef and the staff were absolutely wonderful. I received a warm welcome and was shown around. I had some difficulty with hot water on my first morning and Youssef fixed it right away. The pool was really refreshing in the afternoon heat. I paid extra for the breakfast which was a nice mixture of local and more western foods. I also paid extra to have a driver pick me and and drop me off at the airport - I think the fees (paid in cash) were fairly reasonable.
In terms of the location, it was well positioned less than 10 mins walk from the Medina. It seemed quite safe walking through there by myself because the palace is super close and was heavily guarded.
Would highly recommend this place. Nothing
- Zoubida (9/5): Superb - Location, though Riad is in very narrow street, it's very safe and litted. Rooms nd architecture of the riad, very different with spiral staircase. Close to Djemaa Elfna square. Very frienfly staff and bespoke meal of the evening veg tagine and chicken tagine were very delicious 😋. Some rusty towels because of bathroom's metal frames.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Astha (10/5): It was a very happy stay. - The Riad is amazingly friendly. We are a vegetarian couple and the staff catered to us very well. They were very generous with suggestions to roam around in the city. NA
- Kamesh (8/5): Very good -
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing Riad with great facilities. My partner and I had the Hammam spa and massage with dinner and I would highly recommend, very relaxing and the food was absolutely delicious.
- Jon (9/5): Superb - Beautiful decor, the host Yousef was very helpful and communicative.
- Hassan (9/5): Fantastic hospitality and beautiful riad - roof terrace and pool are great. - Beautiful riad with wonderful staff, great breakfast and fantastic roof terrace and pool.
- Marina (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms are very clean, tidy, and comfortable. Breakfast is very well prepared and the ladies are very friendly and helpful. The terrace is also a plus though I did not try the swimming pool. Toilet and shower work very well, no problem at all. The location is very close to medina so most of the places are within walking distance, but compared to medina the riad is very quiet. Highly recommended! Everything is perfect, but if I really have to say sth: some of the rooms are with transparent glass doors/wall. It is very modern and beautiful, but if you do not fully close the curtain, there is no privacy at all, especially for the first floor.
- Veronique (9/5): Magic - Nice breakfast but = everyday, location top, diner excellent. Nothing
- Leigh (9/5): Superb -
- Erikahilda (10/5): Exceptional - The place was very clean, the staff very nice an accomodating.
Yousef is a great host, very pleasant. He even woke up early in the morning to walk me out to my Taxi...
- Joseph (10/5): Comfortable, peaceful and enjoyable - Great Location, very friendly management and staff. Definitely going to be staying here again. Nothing to complain about.
- Jahrin (8/5): Cosey boutique stay, with tailored service - the decor of the hotel was stunning. make you feel like you are in a hidden gem! i loved how it was amongst the locals. The walk itself to get to the hotel from the main drop off point is great as you are walking amongst the locals and feels authentic. see through shower and toilet. not family friendly. Swimming pool alot smaller than expected from pictures
- Marilyn (8/5): Very good -
- Suhail (10/5): charming authentic experiece - The staff are super friendly, helpful and accommodating. the rooms are beautifully designed and very comfortable.
Situated in a small old town ally. you do need to walk few minutes from where a car would drop you off as cars don't go into the ally, and if you're a light sleeper, the morning prayer from the near by mosque will wake you up. but otherwise i would highly recommend this place. not the property's fault, but the morning prayer from the near by mosque is quite loud and long.
- Sakyi (7/5): Good -
