The staff were communicative before, during and after the stay - WhatsApp messages with any questions, menus, forgotten items - very clear and needed. The property is stunning, with the tiniest details thought through - right on the bank of the river amongst the vines. The breakfast and dinner were delicious; in house chef was great and personable, explained every dish and the menu was always changing, really recommend staying in for dinner. All guests are addressed by name and all requests are diligently cared for throughout the stay - we were thoroughly impressed and would love to recommend the stay to anyone One thing to note is that there are railway tracks right next to the hotel - as it is with most properties on this scenic bank of the river - and the trains are audible through the hotel.

The wine, the food, and above all, the staff, were all top notch. There may be other hotels in the area but I can’t imagine any of them surpassing Quinta de S. Bernardo. I can’t think of a thing.

- Julie (10/5): One of the best stays of my traveling life - This property is exquisite! You feel like you are in a different world. The architecture and the overall design is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous and it’s kept very clean. There’s so much to do and the different rooms for activities makes you feel at home. And most importantly, the STAFF! Talk about going above and beyond for anything your heart desires! Extremely warm and welcoming! And the food and wine was some of the best I have ever experienced. Nothing! It was perfect!

This inn is located in a fully functional farmhouse and vineyard, perched high on the slopes of Douro Valley mountains offering picture perfect views. We stayed in a room with river views and a plunge pool- it was beyond gorgeous. The facilities are immaculately maintained. The restaurant served great meals all through our stay including good options for a vegetarian in our party. The winery produces excellent wines that I can highly recommend. The staff are very kind and professional. The place is so small that the staff and the guests get to know one another quickly. The owner and the hostess, Ms. Marcela Monteiro is probably one of the most efficient, kindest, and the most helpful person we have ever met. Well before the trip, she responded to all our questions over email with helpful tips and advices about the Douro Valley area. She helped us with pointers to other providers of high quality experiences in the Valley. She also set us up with a medical professional for urgent care that one in our party needed. I highly recommend this cute, cozy, and picturesque little farmhouse inn for a memorable Douro Valley experience.

We stayed in Room 3 with a mini pool on the balcony. It could use a little more privacy. Also, we stayed over a holiday weekend in Portugal and several families with young children came. It was nice but got loud.

The wine and courses were perfect and we love Miguel. We also were treated with a wine tour at a nearby vineyard with an authentic lunch with tasting. You feel pampered and in a luxury environment without it being stuffy. You can casually meander down to the river and grab a kayak, take some yoga mats to the deck, or take bikes out and head to the nearest vineyard. Plus excellent food, service, and views. They got all of the details just right.

While there are only 9 rooms, we felt like we had the entire Quinta to ourselves. Everthing was superb about our visit. Nothing could have made our stay better.

Rooms are really nice and we had a terrace with a hot tub overlooking the river. Rita’s special drink was amazing and she is the best. Ricardo can be booked to tour different vineyards and he is a joy to spend time with showing you the area. Book a boat tour with Rubin to see the vineyards from a different perspective. Joe is there to help with whatever you need with a great smile and sometimes a wink. Highly recommend a stay.

Everyone we encountered at the hotel was so friendly, helpful and welcoming. They went out of their way to provide us with helpful recommendations, set up a custom winery tour and made some amazing meals. My husband and I did not want to leave and can only hope we'll be able to visit again one day. It was magical!

We had booked a room with a private pool and it was fantastic, a completely relaxing little haven. We ate a few times in the evening at the restaurant which is a set daily menu of 3 courses and we also did the on-site wine tasting which I would highly recommend. The other thing we did was order the picnic one evening which was lovely, all freshly prepared and delivered in picnic baskets to our room. Perfect romantic and intimate couples holiday! - Christopher (10/5): Beyond expectations and impeccable service and lovely people. - What is there not to like? Joao and Marcela were brilliant, always smiling, always helpful. The food was amazing, the wine was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing and the things to do were brilliant. We’re planning on coming back next year! Apart from the big hills when cycling the wrong way (nothing to do with the Farmhouse! :-) ) we can’t fault this. My wife Nic said it was one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in - and we’ve travelled a fair bit!!
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional villa in the heart of the Douro Valley with amazing food, wine, service and property - Absolutely the highlight of our trip - the food and wine were exceptional, the service was impeccable, the property, pool, and amenities were amazing, and every moment there was a true reflection of how amazing Portugal is.
- Ruth (10/5): Perfection - This place is absolutely superb! From the initial contact prior to our visit, to the final farewell there is a commitment to excellence and attention to detail in everything. The location is charming - nestled in the vineyards and a short walk down to the river. There's a lovely range of amenities to use. The staff are totally wonderful - constantly attentive to ensure everything is perfect and to help with anything. The food and wines are superb. Highly recommend the wine tasting with Pedro - a master of his craft. The Quinta is beautiful, lovely design , gorgeous rooms and views, and relatively small so never feels overcrowded or over busy at all. We were expecting a lovely place but this surpassed our high expectations and then some. Its pretty close to perfection! Cannot recommend highly enough. Nothing at all! Only suggestion would be slightly larger double beds, and to add some light snacks to the very generous wine tasting!

- Roger (10/5): It was an absolute treat & spoil to experience this amazing place and we felt very welcome! - We were blown away by this property - it’s really beautiful! The building has been renovated & furnished beautifully, the owner & staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and its position along the Douro River is stunning! Wow …. the wines and food were absolutely DELICIOUS - the chef is top class! We’ve fallen in love with this spot and will be back (all the way from South Africa)! We loved everything! If there was a slight negative it would have to be that the “bathroom” is very small and that the basin is in the bedroom but it certainly didn’t detract from our stay!
- Jonathan (10/5): Beautiful venue run by lovely staff! - A beautiful, intimate, family owned and operated property. The staff were exceptionally nice and the views spectacular. Food was fabulous with a different dinner menu each night. Easy access to local train station whether traveling upstream or downstream to Porto for the day. Highly recommend this venue. Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Amazing stay as always, great staff and peaceful place. - Been here for my third time and this place is absolutely amazing in every regard. What is most impressive is how kind, attentive and sweet they are. The food is also amazing from breakfast buffet to dinner everything is so delicious. We had a special dinner in the greenhouse and the 8-course menu was top notch. Two thumbs up and looking forward to staying again many more times. Nothing!
