Guest Reviews
- Pillow (9/5): - Historic splendor with friendly staff. The location is convenient for walking and exploring Lynchburg's downtown businesses as well as the James River trails. Ample resturants to chose from. There is no available room service.
- Josh (10/5): - Great customer service very clean and professional great history and was within walking distance of the amphitheater
- Crownover (9/5): - Location location location Lady at the front desk could not figure out my last name. She finally said can we just call you Mr Crown. Last name is Crownover…..
- 4506ff99049273be89e60bcd5906571c (9/5): Thank you for this lovely place - Very unique in appearance. Rooms large, clean, spacious. Staff friendly. Cute gift shop.
Walking along bluff nice. Comfortable beds. Wi-Fi a little slow and not secure.
Lots of construction when we were there
Restaurant closed, but we found good options nearby
- Hilario Vargas (10/5): Exelente - My bueno Todo me gusto
- Ruben (9/5): -
- Calin (5/5): O experiență pe care nu as repeta-o - Istoria locului Curățenia si zgomotul sistemului de incalzire(nu s-au schimbat așternuturile timp de o saptamana)
- Chris (10/5): - Train
- Michael (10/5): I love this place! - This charming hotel is a real gem. N/A
- Mea (10/5): We will return! - This place is gorgeous, both luxurious and tasteful. We loved the location where we could walk around downtown, which was lit up for the holidays. This is a fantastic quick retreat from the DC area.
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Cristina (6/5): Beautiful spot, comfortable hotel, unfortunately next to an active train route. - The property is beautiful. Such a great use of an old brick factory. Beautifully restored. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The train that goes by every two hours all night was a real drawback.
- Reams (10/5): - I like it being conveniently close to things to do
- Alphonsus (10/5): -
- Nicole (10/5): -
- Isabel (8/5): Nice charming place. Will certainly come back and recommend. - The staff is extremely helpful and the property is really nice and has character and charm. They provide breakfast consisting of a muffin, juice, fruit and yoghurt. It would be nice if you could indicate what kind of muffin you would like because getting a chocolate muffin if you really don't like chocolate is a shame. Behind the beds and behind nights stand it could be cleaner. Some items in our room where broken and need some fresh paint of wall paper.
Parking is paid while there is a huge parking lot in front of hotel. This should be included.
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Jon (10/5): -
- Pam (10/5): - Spent two nights because we were in the area to purchase a car. Very pleasantly surprised - the online photos didn't do justice to how lovely the hotel is. Old shoe factory and they paid homage to shoes everywhere you looked (but very tastefully done). Very clean and the staff was friendly and competent. Within walking distance to the town and other restaurants. There was a nice paved walking/biking path along the James River below the hotel - they supplied bikes and it was a beautiful ride. Continental breakfast (muffin, yogurt, fruit, OJ) delivered to your door in an old shoeshine box. We highly recommend the Craddock-Terry Hotel.
- Beth (10/5): - Beautiful property and great service
- Andrea (10/5): -
- Dominic (8/5): Unique, tastefully decorated - The hotel has a unique flavor to it…
There are limitations on breakfast options and although the “muffin in a shoe box” is a cute idea it’s becomes a bit lame by day 3.
So my advice is mix it up a bit - offer more on the menu for breakfast. Add a decent espresso coffe machine etc
- Lex (10/5): -
- Janet (9/5): - Great location, nice staff, convenient. Clean. Included breakfast with orange juice, apple and a muffin was delivered to our room.
It was ok, but not great. No napkins, no plates, no choice of fruit or type of muffin. Just a little limited in a not inexpensive room.
- David (10/5): - First time to Lynchburg and we loved it. This hotel is a gem! Wonderful friendly service. They treated us to a nice bottle of local wine and the room was perfect!
- Helena (4/5): - I’m conflicted. Loved the concept of a former shoe factory now a hotel - the theme was well done - and nice staff. But the room has dead bugs in the corner next to my nightstand. Also, the trains are so loud - they literally blow their whistles throughout the night - that each room has a noise machine and they give you earplugs at reception. I would have skipped this place if I had known about the trains. Generally, the Craddock Terry did not live up to the high ratings.
- Linda (10/5): - My grandsons (3 and 5) loved the size of the room and bathroom. Very spacious. The 14' ceilings made the space seem enormous. They loved the different shoes on the doors, so we took a tour to see them all. Then we decided which ones we liked best. A great way for them to unwind after being in a car seat for 2 hours. The diffuser was fabulous. We all loved that aspect of our stay. The complimentary breakfast and the shoebox delivery system was a real treat for them, also. They loved having their own bag each morning. The location was perfect. We enjoyed many aspects of Lynchburg especially the ones for children: the Bounce Place in the Mall, the Aquatopia for animal interaction; Amazement Park -- totally AWESOME. 4 levels of fun. We were visiting Bedford to see family over the Fourth. I am so glad I chose to stay at Craddock Terry. The room allowing 5 was the BEST. I (the Gram Gram) slept on the very comfortable sofa. The people were extremely friendly, even though we had two rather rambunctious boys. I took one of them to the lobby for about 45 minutes so the little one could nap. We looked at the Virginia Living magazines and talked about the pictures. No one complained about his lying down (no shoes) on the nice sofas. We became the "welcoming crew" when new folks checked in. Many had dogs and were agreeable to let my grandson pet them. I could continue; however, I think you can tell how impressed I am with this hotel.
- Grayson (10/5): - One of our favorite hotel on a 10 trip
- Carlos (10/5): - Nice location. Boutique hotel in old shoe factory. Large rooms. Nice staff
- johnmK9102DY (10/5): Great - VERY NICE HOTEL, Staff was GREAT, Room was very comfortable and bed was nice.
Sorry I could not stay longer............
- Scott (9/5): Superb -
- Eric (10/5): - Great place to stay! Spacious rooms with really nice amenities!
- T2523WIpaull (10/5): This is a great hotel! - From the very beginning at check-in, we felt welcome and at home at this Hotel. We were there for a wedding weekend, and it could not have been better. We had a Premium King room in the William Henry wing. Very large room (507), King bed, very comfortable, clean and spacious. A couch and chair were also in the room accented by a brick wall. The bathroom was very large with a soaking tub, rain shower, and plenty of room. We had one small issue with the Waterstone restaurant over charging us, but that was handled immediately by the staff when I explained the situation. This is a great hotel. Also conveniently located to a beautiful walking trail along the river and an easy walk to shops if you don't mind hills! :-).
- ericsO2574SW (10/5): The “go-to” hotel when in Lynchburg - This is our “go-to” hotel when in Lynchburg. Usually, we have our dog, but this visit we didn’t, so we stayed in the other building in a beautiful suite. The room is well appointed and has many nearly floor to ceiling windows, so plenty of daylight. The bed is uber comfortable and the rooms include white noise machines now…likely because you can hear the occasional passing of a train close by. Honestly, why stay anywhere else?
- Elizabeth (10/5): - A really lovely hotel. It is near center of Lynchburg. You might want to drive into town. It is near the river and bluff walks. Easy walks to roof top bars and restaurants. Area is under construction right now. Just lovely furnishings in an old shoe factory with friendly helpful staff. Really enjoyed my stay. FYI - Not too far from Appomattox Courthouse. Really enoyed the ranger talk.
- Josh (10/5): - We had a great experience as usual.
- Horace (10/5): Great location in a historic building thoughtfully adapted as a hotel - Location and architectural reuse More breakfast options at hotel or nearby
- ELIZABETH (8/5): - Reception was great though a little bit chatty, TV did not work - only snow. Could not get Wifi to link and no info on same in room. BUT architecture and history, decor fantastic. Spent our time outside on lower walk area and awesome live music at The Water Dog. Best bkfst at My Dog Duke's Diner. Great town, good urban hike on the hills. New big fans!
- Angela (9/5): Best pillows and mattress cover in the US! - The soaking tub and mineral bath was fantastic! Missing the amazing pillow spray and soaking salts
- Lance (10/5): - Love this hotel!!
- Val (10/5): - There are not enough parking spaces around the hotel.
- William (8/5): love staying here and will be back - Love the vibe of the renovated shoe factory, beautiful rooms and centrally located to enjoy the town. We’ve stayed here once before and appreciate being able to bring our dog we were located in the adjacent building directly over the patio area. It would be helpful to have some black out curtains as the shades don’t block out the lights which are plentiful in the front area of the hotel/restaurant.
Also a Young Life group was meeting on that patio creating a tremendous amount of noise, it wasn’t the end of the world as they were out by 9:30 but the whole Jesus vibe was a bit over the top..just saying.
- Ginny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (10/5): - Absolutely love this hotel, such a gem in such a great little city. The women at the front desk are lovely and the hotel is so unique and cozy. We will absolutely be back!
- Tracy (8/5): - I was only there overnight so not much to report. It was a bit difficult to navigate all of the levels and hallways. Room was nice, check in easy
- Katherine (10/5): - I love the Craddock. It’s my favorite hotel in my city. It’s clean, offers friendly and super accommodating hotel staff. It’s refreshing as a staycation or for someone who is visiting our fair city.
- Christy (9/5): Would stay again - The uniqueness of the hotel was charming. Penny Loafer was not on duty while we were there but love the idea of her as a greeter. Love the architecture throughout, shoeshine box as a picnic basket for the continental breakfast, small detail of art work in form of postcard left on bed, high ceilings in rooms, very spacious rooms. We would stay again. Showers leaked severely onto stone tile floor, inspite of trying to ensure that everything was sealed when in use and door was not left open to drip afterwards. Water pressure in shower was low but I can live with that considering the age of the hotel. Toilet room window sill was very dirty, good thing we don't use it for anything. Very firm beds, not for me and my husband but many people prefer very firm beds.
- Angela (5/5): Passable - Love this hotel… it is the most comfortable beds/pillows in the US- I travel often! The screaming child above me- all night!
- Chanel (10/5): Exceptional -
- jonathancO8676DG (6/5): Good, not Great...Not Sure if Worth the Price - I visited the CT as I was offered a comp night in a suite after having reservation issues with them twice in the past couple of years. Issues were due to room type changes etc so nothing pertaining to hotel quality… and decided to take a long weekend with one of my kids visiting friends in the area.
Room- we stayed in the first floor suite, which I am guessing is one of the top rooms they offer. Nice room with exposed brick and stone on the walls. Plenty of space, balcony/patio which was not expected, and above my expectation overall.
Cleanliness - I expected some issues given the door to the outdoor patio. There were cobwebs hanging throughout the room itself, webs/dirt around the door leading outside, a couple of noticeable dead bugs in the bathroom/by the door… and when fetching some toys my son lost under the couch, you could tell it had not been vacuumed in some time with dirt built up, whole pieces of food etc. there was also food leftover in the wet bar sink, and stains on the couch itself. I felt this fell short of the standard mark.
Safety- While I am guessing this is the only room this is an issue with… the “glass door” leading to the balcony is not very reassuring. The only functional lock is the top door latch which allows the door to open a few inches. A simple jiggle of the door handle itself outside unlocks the lock on the handle itself, and there is no dead bolt. The balcony is only enclosed by a waist high metal fence next to the hotel entrance door on the first floor, which gets regular foot traffic.
Entertainment - this room offered a tv in the living room and bedroom itself, probably 35-42 inches or so. No issue with the size, but with this being a Marriott property I was surprised when the tvs only offered Directtv/HBO. No ability to access streaming services which seems to the be the norm for Marriotts nowadays. Could certainly use an upgrade.
Noise - Again, knew what to expect with the train nearby. We brought my son’s noise machine with that in mind and while not able to drown it out, he was able to sleep through. However, more noticeable was the noise above our first floor room. I believe that room sits close, if not directly below the main lobby. You can hear people walking and it is very noticeable when people are rolling luggage, luggage carts, or other items across the floor, especially during late night check ins. Did not plan for that based on my last stay being on a higher floor, so it was inconvenient at least.
Customer service - the staff was fantastic from the front desk through housekeeping. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and willing to assist in anyway. Certainly seems they pride themselves on this.
Value - while we stayed for 3 nights, we only paid for 2 given the comp night we were offered. Even so, paying for two nights and parking each day came to upwards of $600 on what seemed to be a slower weekend in the area... so a fair guess would be $900+ if paying the full 3 nights. Wonder how high it would be during "prime season." It is a great location and has some nice things to offer, but I guess each will have to determine if it is worthy of the price point. Having stayed at other hotels downtown and Marriotts in Lynchburg… it’s up for debate.
I try to stay loyal to Marriott, but may have to consider more affordable Marriotts across town, or other downtown options based on price point next time in the area.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert C (6/5): - The hotel is a lovely conversion from what was a shoe factory.
Unfortunately, someone in a room on our corridor was smoking drugs and the place wreaked of the smell from it. I reported this to the front desk.
- mikezZ8839NE (10/5): Great hotel. Highly recommend. - Every time I stay at this hotel I am very impressed. Comfortable beds, spotless, great location for working around downtown Lynchburg and a pizza place and more formal restaurant in the building. You are on the river and good place to walk or run in the morning.
I want to thank Cindy at the front desk. I requested a certain room where I could see all the Christmas lights and she made it happen.
Great hotel and you won’t be disappointed
- 880ilag (10/5): Great stay in Lynchburg. - We are very comfortable in this charming Tribute hotel and enjoying the staff’s hospitality. We heartily recommend it to anyone wondering where to stay in Lynchburg. It is also very conveniently located at the entrance to town and just off the highway.
- dannyr807 (10/5): Outstanding experience with awesome hotel staff - Spent the weekend at the hotel and it continues to be one of our favorite boutique hotels. The highlight this weekend was the kindness and responsiveness of their front desk staff. The hotel manager, Sonya, was very helpful with several needs and her young front desk staff, including Carlie and Bayleigh, were two of the best we have ever encountered at any first class hotel. We hope to get back soon to this great hotel.
- Kristen (8/5): - Hotel was nice. Only downside is no high end free coffee-for this price…: also no gym but they do provide passes to local Y. They also have bikes outside to use. We are at Shoemakers and it was pretty good but not outstanding. Size of room was huge and staff was super friendly and helpful. Super walkable to local restaurants etc… overall a bit pricey for amenities available.
- Aguero (1/5): Bad - Very disappointed at the check in process and the DOUBLE "hold charges" on my account. From previous reviews this seems like an ongoing issue-FOR YEARS!
I was there for my best friend's wedding and didn't want this experience to ruin their day, so I didn't cause a scene at the hotel and bit my tongue.
This next part is relevant, as it was repeated to me MULTIPLE times. I'm perfectly fine with my account being charged a "hold" for my entire 5 day stay at the hotel, upon my arrival (I thought this was unusual because on every hotel I have stayed at, I'm used to paying on my check out date but I digress) This "hold" reflected as a pending payment on my account and so this amount was taken out of my account but the transaction is not fully processed until my check out date on Monday.
Meaning, the balance wasn't available to me and it can't be disputed, until that day, since it is in pending. Again, perfectly fine with this, I wasn't planning on using the money but for hotel expenses anyway.
My issue is that on top of the 5 day "hold" charge which was my entire stay. An additional "hold" separate from the initial one was placed on my account.
So, when I brought this to the attention of the front desk clerk. I received multiple lectures on what a "hold" and "pending" charges are.
When I explained that MY ISSUE wasn't the "hold", my issue is that I was CHARGED TWICE!. And that although this is a "hold", it was still taken out of my available card balance.
I received the same lecture again, as if I was a kid and that eventually that amount will go back to my account. There was nothing they could do until check out day on Monday.
Mind you, the payment was placed on Monday but the transaction didn't reflect until Wednesday, so an additional charge was held for a week, for no apparent reason but "the system".
- Darragh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (3/5): Noise level, furniture in room was sticky, back of bathroom door was not clean and one bar of soap. - dinner was excellence Inform guests of noise above Restuarant
- Ami (10/5): Amazing unique property with great attention to all the details! - Absolutely beautiful unique property. Nothing.
- Sheri (10/5): Wish I’d known about this hotel earlier!! - Location and uniqueness of hotel. The continental breakfast from a “shoe box” was genius with the theme of the hotel. Had to pay for parking. $12 per day
- Nadine (9/5): We arrived very late, but the person at the desk was friendly and worked diligently to get us to our room so we could sl - Loved the history of the building and the little extras such as the different styles of shoes on the doors as well as the shoe box in the room.
- 717bennettr (2/5): Skip this Marriott "tribute" hotel - Wow. Just wow. Poorly trained and dismissive staff. For an upper-end Marriott hotel, I was shocked at the poor level of customer service, knowledge of the area and customer service. If you are in Lynchburg, Va. do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.
- Levi (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious room and breakfast in a shoebox.
- Cruiser62091077054 (10/5): comfy, elegant. Pet friendly. Cheerful ,competent, staff. Great walking around hotel. Excellent food &bar on site. - A wonderful stay! Beautiful room. Great restaurant with excellent food and creative cocktails. Staff is cheerful, helpful, competent-all of them that we encountered! Josie, Chantelle, Zach the bartender and Theresa was a lovely inn keeper with a authentic and gracious welcome! We loved our too short one night stay. The bed was super comfy. The beautiful walking trails very near the hotel helped us get our steps in for the day! Also, genuinely pet friendly. We already recommended to family and friends. Thank you again!! We hope to return.

- H. (10/5): - Was in Lynchburg for a special occasion. Ate at hotel one night; the restaurant was excellent. Very nice experience in every respect.
- Monica (10/5): - Great hotel, very comfortable. Only recommendation would be more breakfast options.
- Patrick (10/5): - Room
- Pamela (9/5): Fantastic hotel in Lynchburg, highly recommend. - Beautifully styled hotel, very welcoming atmosphere. Staff was very professional and helpful. Great Location along the James River in Downtown Lynchburg, within easy walking distance to restaurants along the waterfront. Will stay again if we're in the area. Unsure why, but the main hotel restaurant was closed during our stay. But plenty of other nearby options, including the hotel's casual Waterstone Pizza with outdoor terrace (very nice!).
- Heidi (8/5): Light sleepers beware, otherwise a very nice stay. - Unique setting in an old shoe factory, beautifully preserved. Comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Train horn blaring for a long time many times a night very loudly, the tracks run behind the building. The walls of the old building are so thin that you can and will hear absolutely everything your next door neighbors do and say, especially at night. There seems to be no noise insulation in the walls at all.
- eur0star (10/5): Another great stay at the Craddock Terry - This is a top notch hotel. I have stayed here several times. My wife joined me for two nights on this trip. The room was large and the shower was huge and perfect. It was quiet despite being near tracks. Downtown is within walking distance. There is a nightly charge for parking which I do not like. Service was fantastic. The front desk people go the extra mile. Breakfast, ordered the night before, is delivered to your room. All in all this is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in the past several years. It is a joy to stay here.
- FarAway42860475843 (10/5): Gem in Virginia! - What a great place in Lynchburg! It is nestled in the downtown and the hospitality was amazing! It is peaceful in the fall time and proximity to the parks nearby is amazing. The hotel is pet friendly so I was able to bring my pooch along. I just wish I saw Penny more! She is so cute!! Highly recommend, the complimentary breakfast in a shoe box is such a great, creative touch!
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional -
- B211KNkenp (8/5): Lovely hotel - This is a very unique hotel with beautiful touches everywhere. The hotel was originally an old shoe factory, and the theme is cleverly incorporated throughout. The rooms are very nice, offering beautiful views that add to the charm of the place. Highly recommended for its unique ambiance and lovely aesthetics.
- Lucia (10/5): - Lovely and the historic aspect is really interesting!
- foodsdd (8/5): I hear the train a coming - This is a nice hotel but my sense is they are struggling with getting help. The signature restaurant Shoemakers is closed “indefinitely” and the remaining option is a pizza place. (No in room delivery) Breakfast is delivered to your room, a muffin, yogurt and bottled juice, i get a way better breakfast at a Fairfield property. All of that said the real reason I’m writing this review is the property’s proximity to the railroad tracks, I didn’t see anywhere in the reviews a mention about this and it is loud. They offer earplugs on checkin but for light sleepers this would be a consideration.
- Sanna (8/5): Very good - Excellent unique hotel rooms and common facilities, nice atmosphere Very loud noise of trains whistling throughout the night was very distrurbing and there were no warnings of that beforehand. I literally could not sleep at all during the night we spent there.
- terisherby (2/5): STAY AWAY -DO NOT RECOMMEND! - Well, I cannot believe I am writing this, but this needs to be said. First of all, this was our anniversary trip, so I booked a suite with extra-large bathroom and soaking tub. Hoping to relax and be able to soak and relax prior to dinner since we were passing thru on our way to NC. Started filling the tub with hot water and it only filled I am not kidding 1/4 of the tub and you guessed it, No more hot water! Ugh! So, I tried not to let it get to me, but after 45 minutes, my spouse went to get a hot shower and no go. So, we went out for the evening and the next morning the lady at the desk asked us how our visit was, and I stated -"Okay" -she said just okay was there anything wrong? So, I told her, which she did apologize. At that point a lady walked by with a pillow who worked there, and I heard her say -what is the problem? So, the lady told her, and she just rolled her eyes and kept walking. At this point, I just want out of there. Then, when I got home the hotel sent me a review request, so I wrote what happened. The Manager did contact me and again apologized and stated she would be sending me a voucher for a free one-night stay on them, due to how we were treated, I said Thank you and guess what -Never received it! What is wrong with this hotel. You do not treat people this way. It was our Anniversary and we had paid a much higher amount to have a luxury bathroom that we could not even use. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL-STAY AWAY-You should be ashamed to do this to people and not follow thru with your promises.
- william (10/5): - I would like to thank Kayla for her priceless personality and her professionalism at her detail. Bill and Mercedes
- James (8/5): Very nice stay! - I liked the location and the theme of the shoe factory. The interior seem “tired” and not as clean as our stay 4 years ago. Our bedding was very “crumpled”, I just had to hope it had been changed! The lighting was very dim in the vanity area.
- Amy (10/5): - All of the staff was super friendly and helpful. Lots of restaurants and stores within walking distance.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Douglas (9/5): Historic Shoe Factory makes for fascinating and comfortable overnight stay with family. - The breakfast is serviceable - pre-packaged muffin and apple and yogurt -- not customized and no choices BUT it IS brought to your door! Historic building is fascinating, views off bluff very nice, quiet at night. Not much, everything works. Not much variety at gift shop.
- Martin (10/5): - The hotel is a superbly repurposed industrial building which is uniquely American. The staff are welcoming and friendly.
- Sandra (8/5): Loved it! Can’t wait to go back - Love the historical vibe and motif. Restaurant is below 5th floor. Could hear chatter, vacuuming, etc as early as 7:30am. Thankfully not after 10pm at night.
- Gretchen (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Craddock Terry. Staff was SO friendly, the space had a great feel and it was plush and comfortable. We would highly recommend.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- O6753YSpams (8/5): Nice property, noisy AC/heat unit - Interesting restored shoe factory, clean, tastefully decorated, friendly staff, efficient check in
Parking us $12, that should be free for the high price of this property especially for Ambassador members
AC heating unit is very noisy and blows from the ceiling into the bed, they should move the bed to the opposite wall
- Rodney (10/5): - Staff was very accommodating and friendly
- P8475DIrosiem (10/5): Great Experience - The hotel is fabulous!! It has a wonderful history that they have maintained in the theme. The architecture is incredible! Large beams in the high ceilings! We loved the “ shoe-box” door delivery breakfast. Most of all the staff were beyond kind, helpful, and friendly particularly our check in Sonya, our check out Kayla. Nate takes the cake! He went above and beyond to figure out a small problem we had and he was resolved to make sure we were comfortable- which we were. Lastly, they were very good to our little dog, including a doggy gift bag, which was so much fun! Highly recommend!
- Wade (9/5): Superb -
- DJ (10/5): - It was expensive and very nice
- Jed (10/5): - Really nice property. Annoying to have an extra $24.00 dollars charged in incidentals when I don't think I used anything extra. Especially after paying over $500.00 for a weekend
- dionf2013 (10/5): The Craddock Terry in Lynchburg - Excellent boutique hotel in a nice city. My wife and I spent Valentine's weekend last weekend. The hotel, and the staff were the epitome of hospitality. From pre-check-in to check out the staff exceeded our expectations. They couldn't have done more to make our stay great. And the hotel is a renovated shoe factory that's been cleverly appointed.
Lynchburg is an up and coming destination that has all you need within walking distance. Hiking, good restaurants, history, local market and the kindness of the locals are reasons to return.
