Guest Reviews
- Kyle (1/5): -
- Kara (1/5): Gorgeous boutique hotel next to loud train line with rude staff - Loved the huge spacious room Literally next to the train line and could constantly hear the train going past so loud. Staff were also rude and not very helpful re anything - zero hospitality.
- Caitlin (10/5): We'll be back! - The place was so cool, we loved how it was decorated and it was in the best location. We thought we might not like how close it was to the el but it was actually kindof cool being so close - we were eye level with the el in room 4. Not as loud as you might think but if you are a light sleeper and go to bed early something to consider. Really appreciated the fridge and freezer as I am breastfeeding and needed to pump / store milk on our trip. We absolutely want to come back!! No complaints :)
- Rob (10/5): - Cool stay, L train close but stops running around midnight ish.
- Kristen (9/5): We had a perfectly pleasant stay in the aesthetic room! - We ate in restaurant lounge and food was fantastic! Growler of water provided in fridge was perfect for rehydrating. Blackout shades ensured we slept well Sunday morning. Couch looked better than it sat and there was a full kitchenette that we didn’t need.
- James (10/5): - It was an awesome place. The restaurant looks very good but we always seemed to be ahead of there schedules. No offstreet parking but a lot down the block for $25 a day
- Michelle (8/5): - This room is super cool. We did love staying in the space, but there’s 0 instruction on how to check in, or check out. Theres no front desk and no one to really call for anything except the restaurant staff which at times were kinda clueless. The tv wouldn’t connect to wifi so we couldn’t use it. No one gave us instructions for checkout so I just left the key on the counter and left the door unlocked? 10/10 cool space, but yeah- not a hotel, if you book here you’re kind of on your own to figure everything out and for this price point I think they should have someone to call at minimum like a with home sharing apps
- Christine (3/5): Dilapidated and in need of attention, a bad experience, look elsewhere. - The property was a few blocks from my niece's apartment, and she and her husband were hosting Christmas this year. So, it was a convenient location. The bed was comfortable with nice pillows. Never saw the staff, they never attended to the room, and even upon check-out, we were told (by the cook at the restaurant below) to drop our keys in a box. No service whatsoever (yet they charge over $300 a night). The hotel is dilapidated and in need of some serious attention. The bathroom was about 55 degrees with drafty windows that we kept shoving towels in to block the cold. The toilet paper holder was coming off the wall, so every time you would go to get toilet paper, the roll would fling across the floor (we finally just sat the roll on the window ledge. The bathroom sink was concrete and stained with old paint in it, so it looked like it belonged in a garage. Neither the grinder nor the coffee maker worked. There were no hangers (when asked, they sent up a few old, bent, wire ones that could barely hold a suit jacket). The concrete floor was cracked and chipped in several places (you could not walk in stocking feet, it would ruin your socks). There was no regular TV, so you could not watch the news before bed. You'd have to log into a service, like netflix or prime, with your own account/password (didn't work for me because I have verizon fios at home, so I had no TV while I was there). There was a lip where the concrete floor met the wood plank floor by the bed that I must have tripped on a dozen times (safety hazard). And, the room was up 4 flights of stairs. which I was not prepared to climb (I have MS). I don't remember reading anything about the lack of accessibility before booking or I obviously would not have stayed there. This hotel needs to be labeled as a non-ADA-compliant establishment. But even apart from that, it is a subpar hotel in need of some serious attention that shouldn't be charging anything near what it is currently charging. It is worth more in the ($99 to $149 range). My brother and sister-in-law stayed in another room, and their experience was worse.
- Kerrigan (3/5): Poor - Location, furnishings Very hot in room. Air conditioner was running, but did not cool off room. The bathroom was sweltering, had to leave door open. Room was overpriced
- ann (2/5): - The toilet was leaking and the wifi was broken and when I told the restaurant manager (there is no hotel staff) he was apologetic but complained about the wifi company and offered nothing to me except that I should send an email and maybe someone else could offer some future reparation. Given the price point this is super disappointing.
- Michele (10/5): - Located in a very eccentric and diverse community. Please note this is a walk up hotel which we had no difficulty with but others may have. Excellent venue choice when attending a concert at the Fairmont Theatre. Room decor was modern and sexy. Huge sofa and the soaking tub definitely soothe the soul after a long night. The exposed brick and sky light brightened the morning with the hand picked Coffee which was A ! I would give additional an additional plus plus if cream or sugar was in room. Restaurant below wa s delicious. We sampled one of their famous wood fired pizza’s which is definitely a MUST!! Comfort and class without the big city chaos! Kudos. We return and stay again if the opportunity presents.
- Derek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charity (10/5): Comfy, Huge, and amazing dinner in the restaurant too! - This is an excellent hotel with huge rooms. And the restaurant is awesome too. Not the quietest because of the train but we knew that and like the vibe! The bed is so comfortable!! Loved it. Could have snacks or items to use / purchase. Free or to buy would have been fine. Only had a jug of water.
- Amccarter (10/5): Beautiful, spacious stay. - Location. A lot of walkable restaurant/bars. A lot of construction early AM going on.
- Niki (5/5): great location with excellent restaurants nearby but awful facilities in the rooms and impractical - It was a great location but very noisy. The room is very industrial looking and similiar to the pictures.
Some of he top Philadelphia restaurants are within walking distance. Comfortable bed. The room is very noisy due to the location of hte train track, restaurant being downstairs and just is general location.
The internet was worse than useless which was very difficult as we were working . We could not watch any television and there was no way of contacting anyone to get any resolution. There is no hanging space in the rooms to put clothes and in the bathroom there is no stand or area to put any toiletries so we had to leave all our toilet bags on the floor and our clothes in our cases
- Brian (9/5): This would be my second home if I came to Philly more often. - The room was incredibly warm and inviting. Everything I could have ever asked for, was there. I listened to at least a dozen albums. Very quite for location. The restaurant downstairs was incredible. Great drinks and the food was even better!! Only challenge was parking. There is a big pay lot across the street. It was not a big deal at all. And seriously parking in Philly is a train wreck in itself.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful space, so many cool places to check out all very close. Also the restaurant downstairs is amazing!!
- Charles (9/5): Superb -
- S (10/5): Fantastic Old Loft With A Great Vibe -
- YOLANDE (6/5): Rustic, Interesting place. - The place was "interesting", not really for me. Cons: I don't like that the hotel doesn't open until 2pm, and when calling, I did not get a call back. Also the couch needs a good professional cleaning and the door locks were problematic for me. PROS: I did like the rustic, homey feel, the bathroom bathing area and the large and spacious room.
- Trisha (10/5): Exceptional - Need better check in and out procedures! Otherwise, beautiful room and location!
- Cathy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very cute but too noisy to justify the price. - Stayed in Room 4 and overall felt like I paid for the aesthetic more than functionality for $680 for two nights.
Pros:
- Beautifully designed space, I really enjoyed the layout more than anything.
- They left a jug of water in the fridge which is a small gesture but I appreciated it.
- Fully stocked kitchen with a stovetop and oven. It even has a dishwasher too.
- The staff I did interact with were all very kind.
Cons:
- Didn’t receive a confirmation from the hotel on the check-in process.
- Noise, you’re right next to the above ground subway so from 5am to midnight you’ll hear trains passing. It’s frequent enough to really notice and each time it sounds like an a little thunder clouds or if you lived 3 miles from an airport. The heater also makes a noticeable enough sound and it takes a while for it to go up two degrees so you’ll hear it for a while.
- Functionality flaws: Although the blinds are gorgeous, they are thin so light might wake you up. The blinds in the bathroom that face the subway are a little thin too.The bed only had a comforter and fitted sheet, there was no top sheet. Golf ball sized chunk missing out of the floorboard and the floors a little uneven. No shower liner so you just have to stick the curtain in the tub with you and the pipes don’t drain well so you’ll have small wading pool while you shower.
Overall, if this had only cost me $550 maybe $600 for 2 nights I’d be more than happy to book again. But $680 is too much for the cons.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Wifi was very slow, we were better off not using it
- Keturah (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Gayle (10/5): Great space in Fishtown. - We had a very nice stay and were very impressed with the space. It is cool. We were visiting a daughter that lives in Fishtown and this was convenient and a great space to hang out in. That said, it is Philly with all that Philly has to offer. And on a summer night that includes plenty of street noise and the L along with the great bars and night life. You won’t forget this place. The restaurant was terrific too.
- Robin (8/5): Justin’s birthday stay at Wm. Mulhern’s Sons - I had read previously the hotel was not great with communication, but I got the front desk with my first attempt to call and they were very responsive and helpful. Check in is unorthodox because you deal with restaurant staff who don’t all know all the procedures with the hotel, but it was quick and easy nonetheless. The room was stunning and we loved our stay in room 4. Bed was comfy, skylight and brick were beautiful, location was perfect for us and is very walkable to lots of great restaurants. We ordered takeout from the restaurant and ate in our room, which was well furnished with kitchen necessities. We slept just fine, but the proximity to the train might be an issue for those earlier to bed and who sleep more lightly—we didn’t go to sleep until after the train stopped running, so no worries for us! The coffee situation is a bit fussy, but it was also kinda fun to try pour over. Overall a lovely experience. We’d visit again.
- Phil (10/5): - Awesome decor clean environment everything we needed for an overbite in the city
- Kim (8/5): - We booked this room for our wedding weekend. The room was different than what was shown on Expedia- they flipped room 3 and 4.... which ended up working g just fine... my only issue was that when I called the front desk they didn’t offer anything to relieve the problem... round of drinks or a bottle of champagne in our room would have been nice. The space was beautiful- but you are basically staying in an Airbnb with no service.. so bring snacks, drinks, and ready to make your bed. There were a few issues with the shower plumbing leaking, and light flickering... again all manageable- but not what we expected for a high end boutique. I live in the area so I knew we were next to the train, but for our of towners- be aware that the train is loud! Overall, the stay worked out and provided us a memorable wedding weekend with each other and the bridemaids getting ready.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great space, industrial feel, but still felt cozy and warm
- Krystal M (10/5): Amazing hotel! - This was unlike any hotel I have stayed at before. It was more like a beautiful apartment than an ordinary hotel. The only thing that was tricky was getting into the room, because the building is very old the key was not working but the manager was able to help me get in and showed me the trick to the door. The restaurant was amazing as well and the service was top notch. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- Andrew (10/5): Weekend trip from NYC - Meticulous design, pitch-perfect aesthetic, and an award-winning restaurant below to boot.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful room, amazing restaurant, and fun (hipster) neighborhood!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Disappointing experience. I would not recommend, booking process was difficult and rude.
