Guest Reviews
- Randall (2/5): - This resort is no longer open, however we were not notified by E prior to arriving onsite after booking well in advance. Luckily the staff were very nice and explained the situation, but we had to make last minute accommodations to stay elsewhere which was not fun after a long day of traveling.
Lesson learned: either book directly or confirm bookings outside of Expedia since their notification system is not reliable.
- Amy (10/5): - Fantastic host and vegan gourmet breakfast. Beautiful property in natural setting. Enjoyed bird life, gardens and spa tub. Rainbows and bird songs in the morning!
- Rayna (10/5): The perfect honeymoon destination - Volcano Eco Retreat was the perfect last stop on our honeymoon. It was quiet, relaxing and so romantic. Emily was so helpful with providing local recommendations for hiking and things to see. The vegan breakfasts were AMAZING! So so delicious. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat - it was the perfect location between Volcano national park and Hilo / waterfalls to the north.
- Karthik (10/5): - Emily and her partner ( I forget the name) we’re amazing hosts , and will off course. The place is so cozy and unique. The breakfast was some of the most amazing vegan food I’ve ever had. This is definitely better than some of the best resorts out on the big island. 10/10 recommended for anyone interested to stay near Hilo or even the big island.
- Changgyu (10/5): - very zen very eco very relaxing good breakfast!
- Rene (10/5): Ein Traum im Wald auf Big Island - Perfekt - eine wirklich tolle kleine Anlage; ein sehr herzliches Gastgeberpaar

- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is submersed in a rainforest reserve so you get fo see all kinds of plants unique to Hawaii. Tony and his wife are very attentive and accommodating and sushi is great company!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Off he beaten path boutique resort with great staff and atmosphere. Only 4 rooms so feels very private. Tony, was amazing and did a great job making sure our stay was perfect. It's in-between the Volcano National Park and Hilo.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was beautiful and spotless. Extremely quiet and an oasis for relaxing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners were friendly, great breakfast, beautiful setting and convenient to the Volcanoes National Park. Highly recommend this spot over any other b&b.
- Roy (10/5): A beacon in an otherwise rushed world. - Our stay.....what to say......our hosts were wonderful and thoughtful down to the smallest details. Each morning we were greeted with fresh French press coffee, homemade bread and fresh cut fruit....thank you Scott! Our room was simple, immaculate, very comfortable and quiet....perfect atmosphere for rest and relaxation. Robert and Scott made our first vacation in the rainforest unforgettable and I truly appreciate their attention to detail.....in a world of quick, quick, fast, fast, MVR is a breathe of fresh air.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A wonderful setting on the slopes of the mountain - We had a wonderful quiet stay at the retreat. Breakfast was outstanding.
