Guest Reviews
- Shanna (1/5): Do yourself a favour and sleep in your car - Advertised as a self contained one bedroom unit but it was actually the owner or managers residence with all their gear still in it. Couldn’t get into the room until about 6.30pm as they took all day to clean it. Very uncomfortable staying in someone space unknowingly. You should advertise honestly Everyone there seemed to know the door code. And had a good few knocks on the door during the night. The shower had a clear window in it over looking the drive way. Needle caps on the cable reel table in the bar/reception.
The light above the bed had a remote that no one could find and it had been left on. The owner had to come back and find it. Air con didn’t work and was charged $350 for one night. Absolute rip off.
- Florian (6/5): Bon établissement dans l'ensemble - L'emplacement est cool, c'est propre La cuisine ouvre tard, les bâches sur les matelas c'est horrible pour dormir
- Kieran (7/5): My favourite Aussie hostel - Great value place with a fun atmosphere. There's 'nicer' hostel rooms around in big cities but nothing like that in Gladstone or at this price point. Would recommend for first time backpackers or people just passing through town for a night. You'll meet friendly people and get great advice for finding work opportunities. The Beers at the bar are a bit limited, that's not super important for some people of course. Fridge space in the kitchen is at a premium too.
- Lynne (8/5): Nice atmosphere in the hostel, pretty balcony & garden. - Arrived just as the open mic began which was great! Borrowed a lovely guitar & did a few songs! Great surprise!!
Got a great bed too! Slept well thanks 😊 A bit short on cups & cutlery in the kitchen 😊!
- Louna (10/5): Fantastic - The vibes were amazing and the team there knows how to make you feel like home :)
- Charlott (10/5): Perfect for 88days and amazing people - Very close to everything in town, very social, I love the pool to chill out, I was looking for a job and find it immediately very close to the hostel, enjoying doing my 88 days here with amazing people:)
- Emily (10/5): A wonderful, affordable stay, very homey a staff were so friendly and welcoming and willing to help with anything to get - Easy to get to, very friendly staff and I felt very welcome. Very relaxed and friendly environment that I felt right at home in Nothing
- Brenda (8/5): The people were very friendly and I got a lot of information about snakes from one of the guests. - Breakfast was a bowl of cereal and milk which was ok. I accidentally set off the fire alarm because I couldn't find the way out through the bathroom.
- Sophie (1/5): -
- Paul (4/5): Get what you pay for - Was not told they don't supply towels. Would have been handy to know. Given one sheet that was a fitted sheet to sleep with. Thought that was strange

- duane (10/5): First time staying at a backpackers in years and I'm glad I did. - The staff and everyone staying there were really chilled and fun people. The beds were comfy and the rooms and facilities were clean. Cool bar and outdoor area. I had a great time and will be back. I can't really think of anything. It was in the perfect location for me, close to the yacht club and marina and had everything I needed. Can't ask for much more.
- Joshua (10/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): Great stay so far - Great environment, friendly staff. Did not have safe lockers if I needed.
- Emma (1/5): I didn’t stay here and was refused my refund - Nothing. Rude incompetent business. Fraudulent conduct. Horrible unkept, horrible staff.
- Dunne (10/5): -
- Natalie (9/5): -
- Brenda (8/5): I stayed for 2 extra nights because my bus was cancelled. But it was pleasant and enjoyable. - Simple. Only available before 9 am. The indoors could have been cooler but air con was not available in my shared room and the fan was not strong enough.
- Viona (9/5): -
- Mateo (7/5): Nice - In overall was good, great environment and nice location. The beds were not too big and they were shaky

- Milou (7/5): Prima voor een nachtje! - Heel gezellig hostel met super vriendelijk personeel. Douches waren ruim.

- Nils (10/5): Do stay here, you won't regret it! - The familiar feel of the hostel
- John (9/5): Clean, comfortable, friendly and affordable - Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, very friendly staff The bin in the kitchen could have been emptied more often. In the evening it was often overflowing.
- Jaime (8/5): Very good - Great vibe, people were super friendly there weren't that many places to charge your phone or connect your laptop
- Eleanor (10/5): Had a fantastic stay and already want to come back!! - Had a great stay, staff were fantastic, felt very homely, facilities were great, want to return already!!

- Tom (9/5): Superb - The crew staff is amazing best hostel experience for me :)
- Beley (8/5): Very good -
- Venkata (9/5): Good balance of social and quiet - The staff were very friendly and the rooms are on the nicer side of what you'd expect from a backpackers which was a pleasant surprise. They put an effort to host small evening barbecues and pizza nights for the guests. The in-house bar has a decent selection of booze and they give discount for the residents. The pool is well maintained and gets frequent use from most of the residents.
- Jasmin (10/5): If you look for a home away from home, you’ll find it here! - Especially as a solo traveler, I felt so welcomed by the Backpackers staff who is so helpful and friendly. The salt water pool and the outdoor area are made for having a relaxing day and in the evening, there’s so much to do with the people there - from bbq to movie nights or a trip to the beach. You’ll always find someone to play chess or pool with. But it’s also completely respected if you need some me-time
WiFi is sufficient if you have to do some work on your laptop and every bed has outlets and reading lights. There are enough toilets and showers, so I never had to wait. And the hostel‘s pets are just so cool. Couldn’t recommend it more
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Annina (7/5): Great place to stay, especially for people taking the ferry out to heron island - Really nice staff, very accommodating and super homey feel overall. Great vibes.

- Andrea (4/5): Disappointing -
- Robert (2/5): Very poor -
- Melany (7/5): Good -
- Chimène (1/5): Paul the cockroach and friends - Location was fine, plenty of parking spaces with closeby supermarkets. Quiet area and short drive to nearby places. Towels were free, staff was very welcoming. When we arrived we were welcomed by one staff member and two (friendly) dogs. Didn't expect the dogs to be there but they were very well behaved. Our deposit was more expensive than the stay itself (38 euros compared to 30 euros for 2 people). Place was a bit messy and really came across as chaotic and unhygienic. We were given a key to our room and shown around, there was a small bar/bbq place and a pool with some bugs to accompany you. First bathroom my friend used had an overflowing bin and blood spatters, as did the bathroom I later used downstairs. Quote on the bathroom door mentioned "it's all shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits", very applicable because at this point we were giggling about the shit we were in. Felt like we were in an old grandma's house with a bunch of teenagers, you do you if you like that vibe. Showers were unclean, had mold, and if you didn't wanna shower alone there was a bunch of flies accompanying you here as well. Then entered the kitchen, aside from food lying around everywhere and a dirty counter we met our fifth pet of the hostel: Paul the cockroach, full of life and seemed to enjoy the amount of food and filth laying around better than we did. Cleaned all of our stuff before cooking, cooked, couldn't wait until we leaved. We had a four person room shared with another girl, would not have felt safe as a girl alone here, staff was a bit too excited about us joining for a beer.
- Rahul (5/5): Passable -
- Greentree (10/5): Exceptional - Close too everything Courtesy
- Greentree (7/5): Good -
- Jasmin (5/5): Passable - We stayed twice, a week apart and in that time they added room numbers and curtians so improvements are being made. It had a very cute garden and they let you use the facilities before you check in and after you check out Breakfast wasn't great, beds were uncomfortable and everything was relatively clean but not spotless. Lots of workers seam to live there long term so it's a very male dominated environment
- Sam (2/5): - I paid $297 for the double room which was nothing like the photo's, it was a half finished room with no blankets and the mattress was filthy. I was locked out of my room and the staff were unable to find a key for a considerable amount of time. Terrible experience.
- Yassine (7/5): Good - Nice kitchen and garden…
Thanks soo much Malya for the extra blanket you give me, with your warm hospitality I felt home for a moment 😉 Bed really uncomfortable…
- Judith (9/5): A little disappointed on time it’s taking to get my $50 deposit back on to my credit card - My son actually staying there I just booked him in he said everything was fine N/a
