Guest Reviews
- Jake (10/5): Very enjoyable, would stay again - Nice size and style and very comfortable
- Lynda (10/5): Brilliant, lovely downstairs suite -
- Sacha (10/5): Perfect Lake District base a weekend in Grasmere or further afield in the lakes. - Great property, clean and tidy with everything we needed for a weekend away. We stayed in Alcock Tarn and it was great to have the separate living room space to relax in during the evenings. We were staying for the Fred Whitton so the property was perfectly located for the start in Grasmere.
- Aeja (9/5): - Easy and quick walk to town and close to trails. Good for walking The stairs were quite steep. If my suitcase was any bigger it probably wouldn’t have fit
- Darren (10/5): Loved it and will be going back to stay - Was very welcoming, great room and location
- Lorijon (7/5): Spacious Suite - Self checkin & checkout
Spacious suite upstairs
Solid basic amenities.
Walking distance to Grasmere A591 directly outside the front door

- Denise (10/5): We stayed at this property last year, we were so pleased with it that we booked again this year - Clean, comfortable, quiet and a great location There was nothing that we didn’t like
- Shiree (10/5): Tranquil get away - We stayed in one of the junior suites and it was beautiful. Nice and spacious, very clean and had everything you needed to have a comfortable stay. The bathroom was gorgeous and the free standing bath did not disappoint. I was in two minds as I upgraded my room as to whether I'd made the choice and Mike the owner was amazing about it and even showed me one of the other rooms on arrival to make sure I was happy with my booking. He was a wonderful and very welcoming host, it makes a world of difference having someone that makes you feel at ease straight away. Our living room/small balcony was super cosy, perfect for our night in. The living room came equipped with a fridge which is also a must for us as my bf had type1 diabetes and his insulin needs to be refrigerated. The whole layout of the suite and the decor was very tranquil and peaceful and was very well thought out. It's tge little touches that make it feel like a home away from home and we definitely felt this. We'll be sure to stay here again in the future. Thank you 😊
- Varun (9/5): It was an amazing stay thanks to Michael who was very helpful and kind. - Amazing room and bathroom . Parking can be improved.
- Alessandra (10/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): Ideal place to stay near Grasmere Village - The room for perfect for a solo male, would have been great for a couple too.
Bathroom was a highlight. A bathtub and separate show stall.
Bed was comfort.
View from rear room of the mountains was lovely.
The walk into the village was nice and only about 5 minutes. Perfect location. There was nothing to not like!
- Jake (9/5): - We booked a basic room and on arrival we were upgraded free of charge which was a bonus as the upgraded room was extremely nice, clean and comfortable. We were also surprised to see the owner also working hard in the perfect coffee shop ‘Freda+Ray’ which has the best coffee in Grasmere and we were given 10% off the bill which again is a nice touch. Can’t fault any part of the accommodation, owner or trip 🥰.

- theresa (10/5): -
- Madeleine (10/5): - Beautiful room, really easy to find and close to amenities. They were really helpful and easy to communicate with.
- Claudia (9/5): Good spacious place - The room I booked was a Deluxe which is on the top floor and really spacious and amazing views and the facilities were good Nothing bad at all
- Samantha (9/5): Great stay, location and friendly hosts - Spotlessly clean, lovely comfy bed, great view at the rear. Helpful and friendly hosts. Great location on the edge of Grasmere. Added bonus of a fridge which we weren’t expecting Nothing. Only disappointment was being messed about by the nearby pub who promised us a table for dinner and then we turned up at the time they told us to they turned us away. They had (in the 3 hours since we asked) changed their policy to only serving residents (and they were quite unapologetic and rude about it too!). Had a lovely meal at The Travellers Rest though the following evening
- Jack (9/5): -
- Mr Scott (9/5): Great stay - Nothing to dislike, everything was very good. Nothing.
- Steve (10/5): We had an amazing time, Michael was extremely helpful & very responsive ensuring our stay was perfect. - Lovely views, great facilities & layout, really good location & easy to find.

- Mark (8/5): Overall comfortable with genuine luxury bathroom. - The bathroom was excellent especially the rainwater shower. Nice shower gels, shampoos. The bed mattress was poor, very uncomfortable. Really couldn’t do with a new one.
- Iain (10/5): Excellent. We’ll be back….possibly with our extended family. - Quite position on the edge of town, with an easy walk to town centre. The furnishings and bedding were very comfortable and the bathroom was very luxurious. Great place to stay Nothing!

- Richard (10/5): Perfect location for a short break in the south lakes. Chestnut Villa was a lovely place to stay. - We stayed in a room at Chestnut Villa called Alcock Tarn and it was perfect for our needs. The instructions provided by the host (Michael) were great and we had no problems finding the property, parking and gaining access. The room was extremely clean and equipped with everything we required for our weekend stay. The bathroom was modern, very clean and the shower was superb. The suite had a small lounge area with TV, mini fridge and views across the hills which, was a nice addition to our accommodation. Sadly, no breakfast in this property but Mike also owns/runs a local café where he gives his guests discount on their breakfast food, tea/coffee, etc. We would love to stay at Chestnut Villa again in the future.

- Joss (8/5): Very comfortable, well maintained and spacious accommodations with a great location. - Very comfortable, nice furnishings and well located. Quite close to a main road, but the double glazing is very good so it wasn’t really an issue. The soundproofing from above isn’t brilliant but again this would only be a problem if you had some really noisy neighbours.
- Marjie (10/5): Wonderful - Host was wonderful, beds best we’ve slept in, pillows great, a lovely place to stay. Lovely welcome when we arrived Michael was very helpful. Would definitely recommend this place. Nothing

- Tim (10/5): A really great place to stay. We are looking forward to going back. - Very well appointed and comfortable. We were in one of the suites, there was plenty of space. Amazing view of Silver How from the terrace at the back! Access was straightforward and all queries answered promptly and helpfully. Some reviews have mentioned being on the main road, we did not find this to be a problem at all. We liked it all.

- Kevin (10/5): - Lovely apartment. Fantastic views. Location was great. Brilliant.
- Michael (9/5): Lovely location, well-equipped suite and accommodating host. - Very spacious suite with nice 'retro' touches. Comfortable bed, plenty of tea/coffee, etc. and small fridge which came in handy. Quiet but scenic location which was only short walk into Grasmere (and the highly recommended Freda + Ray cafe) and even less to the Swan pub. Our host was very accommodating to our request to arrive early. We'll hopefully be back! Nothing.
- Marie (9/5): Superb - Location, comfort. Most comfortable bed, best flat white I’ve had in Freda and Rays Cafe. Owner very kind and helpful, easy check in and out, cleaned every day.
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Tom (9/5): A great base from which to explore the region - Lovely spacious, clean, modern room on the edge of Grasmere. A great base from which to explore the region. We were expecting breakfast to be provided; Booking.com says it isn't, but other sites say it is. Well, it isn't. But that's fine, because the owners also run a cafe in the village, where we had breakfast, which was excellent! There didn't seem to be any hooks to hang up our coats at the end of the day. But tiny thing really is the only thing we missed!
- Karen (9/5): If your looking for Zen in your life go to Grasmere. - I liked being at edge of town very peaceful, quiet. Gorgeous views. Excellent comfortable bed. Roll top bath tub 🥰 There was nothing I disliked.

- Colin (9/5): Very comfortable - Everything Nothing
- Lee (10/5): Absolutely brilliant experience, we were close enough for everything in Grasmere, - Mike offered an earlier check in as we wanted to go on a long walk on our arrival to Grasmere, we have 10% discount for Freda and Rays cafe, and the offer of a free coffee for my birthday, which was very generous Nil
- Megan (10/5): Gorgeous Grasmere - Gorgeous spot. Quieter being on the outskirts but close enough to be a convenient location. Loved this property Could have stayed longer
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Spotlessly clean, luxurious and peaceful
- Robin (8/5): Perfect for our short stay. - Great location, perfect for our one night stay.
Nice bed, bed linen. Rattly window but easily fixed with paper tissue buffers.
Was sorry not to be able to use the breakfast discount but needed an earlier breakfast before the cafe opened.
- Louise (9/5): Great place to stay and explore grasmere - Spacious room, with a fridge in the living area. Easy to walk into grasmere. Parking outside. Easy check in and out. Very warm at night, but that’s perhaps us as we tend to need a very cool room
- Sakina (8/5): Exactly what I needed. food for my soul. A few days of peace. - The staff were super friendly. I was welcomed and made to feel at home instantly. I loved everything. Thank you to the host who offered me a free breakfast at the cafe on my first morning to make up for there being no electricity for a few hours. It was a temporary thing, but the host was amazing in making sure i had my morning coffee and I was treated well.
- Saulini (10/5): Great place to stay in Grasmere - The suite was spacious and exquisitely decorated with great views from the windows. There's access to the garden. The host was friendly and helpful and the villa is located a short walk away from the village. Highly recommended!
- Clive (10/5): Just perfect - Not applicable
- Claire (9/5): Superb - The deluxe room was excellent. Clean and spacious. Lots of little details, like knowing to replace the instant coffee sachets we had drank the day before, was superb.
Bathroom was lovely... Big bath and walk in shower, very clean.
Location was just a short walk to Grasmere.
Bring a head torch for the dark walks home if heading to the Grasmere pubs :) Parking was fine for us, but could be really tight if bringing a larger type of car.
