JETT (10/5): Overall, while expensive, this place was amazing. We would return and recommend. - Clean, comfortable, beautiful property in a fantastic location. We were able to walk to everything. The staff were friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to engage with our toddler. Also the tap water is safe, which made everything so much easier. We had no upstairs neighbor until the last night, which was fortunate because the sound of them dragging chairs across the tile floor was super loud. On Saturday night, the club music was a little intense, but didn’t reach us in the bedroom.
Benigno (6/5): - We stayed at El Callejon Hotel last year and it was phenomenal. We invited family and friends this year and wanted to share this experience with them. Unfortunately, it fell short this year. It started with our arrival. We were received with nothing special whereas last year they had copitas de mezcal and mezcal granita or nieve for us. This year not even a map nor orientation of the attractions near by. I expressed my concern and was reassured they would make it right and that this was due to the fact that the chef had an emergency. I understood and know emergencies happen. But, we were there 5 nights and nothing was made right-not even a map. It was all in the details that were missing this year. Another example, they did not provide us with daily bottled water in the room this year. We had to ask the desk personnel daily. They did not help us to the door this year and ensure we had a taxi despite not being busy and just sitting at the desk. We enjoyed our stay in Oaxaca with our family and friends but it wasn’t because of El Callejon Hotel. It was just average.

Susan (10/5): Cannot recommend this place highly enough! - We moved to El Callejon as our original hotel was not good. From the moment we arrived here we knew we had made a wonderful decision. This is a truly beautiful hotel set in a beautiful oasis of a garden and incredibly calm and relaxing as a result. The staff could not be more hospitable or helpful and I would recommend that anyone staying in Oaxaca stays here, it is a real gem. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making it such a great stay in Oaxaca Everything was great, couldn't fault it at all!

Personal muy amable y dispuestos a ayudar con todo. Disfrutamos de una suite muy bonita y equipada. El desayuno estuvo muy bien. Está, desde mi punto de vista, en el límite de la zona del centro en la que nos sentíamos seguros por las noches, ya que está muy solitario el barrio a esas horas. Aunque me consta que el hotel está trabajando para afrontarlo, tiene un problema grave con un local de eventos muy cercano que hace celebraciones estruendosas que duran hasta altas horas de la noche, y que penetran sonoramente en las habitaciones. Si te "toca" un evento, la estancia se amarga un poco. Eso no está en relación con el alto coste de este alojamiento, así que deberían hacer un descuento de mínimo el 50% de la estancia a todos los clientes que sufran esta circunstancia, y no lo están haciendo.

Scenic47205592639 (4/5): Loud venue with late night events next door, couldn't sleep - Wanted to love this hotel, but the location next to event venue with extremely loud music killed all joy of vacation. We couldn't sleep, talked to front desk they basically can't do anything. Didn't offer us to change room or any compensation for ruined sleep. Would not recommend if you are looking for a quiet chill place. If you party till 2am and only go to hotel room to sleep it might work for you.
Jason (8/5): - This property was beautiful. We enjoyed the service provided by the food and bar staff. Breakfast was a treat, and evening service was very attentive. The room was clean and everything worked well. One very unfortunate part of the visit was the fraudulent use of a credit card that was only provided to this hotel. Upon check-in, I noted that the property scanned the credit card (both sides). 24 hours later, a fraudulent charge was attempted, and my bank blocked this attempt. Despite all the positives about this hotel, due to this event, it's not likely I could recommend it to others.

Things started off a little funny when we arrived late and the night staff wasn’t sure which room we were in—it added a bit of humor to the trip—but everything smoothed out quickly. The room was huge, more like a one-bedroom suite, and it overlooked the beautifully decorated garden, which we absolutely loved. It was such a peaceful and relaxing view to wake up to every morning. The included breakfast was a nice touch—there was a small buffet with fruits, yogurt, pastries, coffee, and tea, plus a menu where you could order dishes like huevos rancheros. It was a perfect way to start the day! The service was fantastic throughout our stay—big thanks to the staff. Everything felt really smooth and well taken care of. Plus, the location is excellent, right at the end of El Calejón Avenue, making it super easy to get into downtown and the touristy spots. Overall, a quiet, comfortable, and well-located hotel with great service. Highly recommend it!

deirdreb652 (8/5): Lovely boutique hotel in great location - Recently returned from a trip to Oaxaca and stayed at El Callejon in a 2 bedroom suite. The hotel is a lovely mix of modern and traditional. Our suite was quiet, spacious, clean and well appointed. I would say that the bathroom for a suite this size should have 2 sinks given the size of the rooms but otherwise no complaints. The staff is attentive and warm. The location is perfect and a close walk to all the sights. My only complaint is the coffee at breakfast is awful! This is an easy fix. Definitely recommend a stay here.

Christian (9/5): What a great find in a wonderful city. Thank you! - Like an oasis in the middle of a buzzing city. We received an upgrade, too. The staff were superfriendly and helpful. Also, the driver they recommended was excellent (and provided guide services too). A bit pricey but it comes with all the bells and whistles after all, so worth it in a global context (if expensive in the Oaxaca context). Breakfast service was a bit slow but a minor inconvenience (just make sure you bring some time if you have an excursion booked).

Karen (10/5): Very charming hotel and would recommend it. - The staff was super helpful and easily available to answer questions via WhatsApp. They also helped set up a cooking class and provided car rental information to do a trip to Puerto Escondido. The hotel is charming and you are greeted with a mezcal icy. Also, each night there is a chocolate treat in your room. Great hotel with soft towels. Wish the bar area was open later and had snacks to enjoy. The bar is in a garden which is very nice but not used much at night.

Our room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is included in the rate and it was delicious. We enjoyed drinks at the bar in the early evenings as well. What really made our stay memorable was the kind and amazing hotel staff. We felt very welcomed and they went above and beyond during our stay.

Henry (10/5): - What's not to like? The hotel is a gorgeous oasis within easy walking distance of Oaxaca's principal sites but far enough away from the action to be peaceful and restful. The rooms, garden and common areas are stylish and comfortable, the breakfasts are amazing and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and solicitous. We loved our stay and hope to be able to return to this lovely hotel and magical city.
adventurerfoodie (10/5): Gorgeous Boutique Hotel - Gorgeous hotel located a short walk (20 mins) from the centre of wonderful and colourful Oaxaca. The hotel entrance is on an unassuming side road, and there is not much to see from the outside other than very tall and imposing walls. But when the door opens you enter a hidden gem, pathways and gardens lit by the sun’s rays - utterly delightful. The rooms are incredible - spacious, airy, tastefully decorated, comfortable and well maintained. The service is excellent - staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast is excellent. Only downside is they charge for espressos at breakfast when these are available to most guests (most rooms have Nespresso machines).

Not far to walk to main area of city. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here if we return to this area.

The location is perfect - walking distance to the city centre and close to all the great restaurants in the city … yet silent and cosily cut out. The staff are super helpful and a delight. The fact that most speak English is also a massive positive. The rooms are beautifully laid out and very spacious. Another positive is the drinking water taps in each room - an asset when you can’t drink from the tap on Mexico Only one ask - when we booked it seemed like the hotel has a spa. It doesn’t - there are just on-call masseurs. The hotel should call it out clearly

Marianne (10/5): - Very nice property about 10 minutes walk from the Santo Domingo church. Our room was huge with 2 sofas and an outside area with 2 lounge chairs. It was good for us as we wanted to avoid the noise of downtown. The walk was fine except for one last quiet block at night, although we always felt very safe.
Dora (10/5): - The staff service was EXCELLENT; always happily willing to help in any way. The rooms were GREAT; spacious, super clean, functional with everything you need, including a little balcony with a hammock (Junior Studio room). Also, the fact that the hotel includes parking (limited spaces), was very helpful, since streets are narrow and didn't feel good about parking our rental car there. Not all hotels offer this. The area around the property felt safe, and had many dining options within walking distance. I would definitely stay in this hotel again! P.S. The only tiny wrinkle was, that there is an event venue a few doors down. The Saturday night we stayed there, music from that venue was very loud. We always travel with a (sleep) sound machine and earplugs, so that helped =)
JeffLoew (10/5): #1 Hotel for a Stay in Oaxaca - This really lovely boutique hotel is a gem! The design of the hotel (great rooms ) - with its lovely courtyard / garden - is superb. It's a quiet oasis not more than a leisurely 10 mins from the centre of town. What also makes the hotel special are Carolina, Neyeli and Markus (?).....ever helpful and keen to make one's stay at the hotel, and in Oaxaca, trouble-free, and above else, enjoyable. Treat yourself and stay here!

The courtyard common space is beatiful, the rooms are lovely, the restauraunt/bar in house is excellent, and lastly the staff is second to none. We had issues with the rental company we booked with, and the young lady at the front desk moved mountains to help us get to our next destination. wish I had wrote down her name to give her a special shout out. Would stay again in a heart beat.
jaizee (10/5): A cute modern boutique hotel - We really loved our stay at this hotel! It is a boutique hotel so feels intimate and calm. The location itself is a little oasis because it is far enough from the crowds of Centro, yet only a few (very safe) blocks from the action. Walking to the zocalo would probably take 15 min, but we preferred this side of town so most things were 8-10 min walk at most (and walking really helped to burn off the excellent meals we had in Oaxaca except for those nights that we made an additional stop for dessert along the way). The staff was very friendly and nice. We had a family suite and it was perfect for our family of four. As for complaints about noise, one night we could hear a wedding nearby but the bedrooms were quiet enough to sleep. Another night we did hear guests above us who must have had an early morning checkout, and we heard luggage and furniture moving, but it wasn’t that bad. A little bit more insulation in the rooms (soft door closures, more rugs or soft goods) would go a long way to help with this I think. Overall, the hotel was perfect for us and we would stay again!

kbold (10/5): A Comfortable Oasis - El Callejon had beautiful, modern room that somehow also felt warm, welcoming, and above all comfortable. The staff was always available and helpful and always gracious with out questions about the hotel, the city, and activities. The location is just outside the city center, which made it a bit quieter. That was great for us but does require an 8 minute walk to get to most everything.

The staff went above and beyond their job to make our stay extraordinary. Flavored water every afternoon, every afternoon they delivered a special chocolate to our rooms. Our breakfast was incredibly healthy and tasty every morning, and staff consistently remembered our individual orders. We all felt so seen and special. Additionally, this hotel is in a quiet neighborhood just 5 minutes walk from the city center. Security stays on premises overnight.

The attention to detail in the art and architecture of the property is impressive, and the gardens and outdoor spaces are welcoming and peaceful. Each and every staff person was very friendly and helpful in offering suggestions of what to do and see for our first visit to Oaxaca. We loved the style of our room, the delicious daily breakfast, the bar in the afternoon and the general ambiance. We highly recommend this boutique hotel. You won't be disappointed!

JWBklyn (10/5): A well-staffed oasis - We ended our Oxaca trip with one night at El Callejon and wished we had more time as the room was beautiful and comfortable and the staff was very thoughtful and professional. They accommodated our early arrival upon our return from Puerto Escondido and a late breakfast in the garden was lovely. The hotel is tucked into a side street away from the noise in a cool neighborhood.

Loved the nightly chocolate. We would definitely stay here again. We would prefer a better mattress. This one was wrapped in plastic (?) and made a noise when we moved. It was also very hard. We are early risers and would have appreciated a coffee station set up in the bar with hot coffee ( regular and decaf) so that we could access it in the morning ( rather than the” pods “ in the room.
