Guest Reviews
- Patrick (6/5): Rustic beachfront experience on the windward side of the island. - The staff were amazing and the beachfront location was excellent. Communication was good prior to the stay. They kept the grounds tidy even after the heavy rains. Lots of loungers and easy access to the black sand beach. Although the place was very clean, the bedding smelled musty and while there was lots of hot water and great pressure for the shower, there was no hot water at the sinks. The plumbing fixture for the bathroom sink was loose and there were no towel rods or hooks in the bathroom. The "bbq" was an electric George Forman style indoor grill, so we were a little disappointed.

- molly (5/5): It's fine for a night. - At beach though black sand and due to rain water was mucky. Traffic noise, sand flies, mozzie, no flea collar for dogs and cats on property.
- Montegu (7/5): We are very happy with our stay. Facilities are nice and staff amazing. - Right on the water and away from Pape’ete. Quiet and beautiful gardens
- Cary (5/5): Wonderful family, great location, but the units really really need updating. They feel very tired. - The location on the beach and near town were great. The family is very generous, and the upkeep outside is very good. The rooms had a lot of deferred maintenance and really need an overall paint and upkeep. The fan up in the ceiling did not work which really kept the place warm and the movable air-conditioning did not work great at all. It’s very dark in the unit and we did not enjoy being inside.

- Arnold (9/5): A beautiful, fairly secluded, peaceful and restful place to stay on the east coast of the island. - Fare Arearea is on the east coast of Tahiti-nui in the Faaone district with easy driving north up to Point Venus or south to Tahiti-iti, either north or south sides. Very useful was the inexpensive car hire from the owner, Carlos. We thank him for his helpfulness throughout our stay. He is based in Papeete and rents a studio there as well as the huts at Fare Arearea. He was a fine gentleman and treated us very fairly. We had some good conversations with him in English. Carlos picked us up and delivered us to his place to pickup the car without charge. Hina, the local host was extremely helpful in all ways and responded instantly to every request.
Three well built huts grace the beautiful large garden area with large palms and art pieces. The huts are closely spaced, leading along a path to a larger hut for outdoor cooking and seating so one can watch the waves or the sunrise. The water comes right up close in high and low tide on the beaches of black sand. Straight out is the snorkelling, but shallow, so approach is from the small beach to the right for the deeper water. These are local beaches, not used by the public. Fare Arearea is secluded and secure with a locked gate leading to the property at night. Each hut is individually locked by the user if needed.
Our hut was clean, had a good kitchen, a bedroom with a large double bed and a bathroom with shower. A bunkbed for two children was in the same room as the kitchen. Each hut had a small veranda for sitting and eating and a place to hang our wet clothes. The stove was electric. The only hot water runs in the shower, not in the bathroom or kitchen sinks. Fare Arearea is on the main road, and even though the traffic isn’t as high as in Papeete, it can be noisy in the very early morning, leading into sunrise. The mattress was bit hard for our liking.

- Tamara (8/5): Amazing hosts - The place right next to the beach was wonderful, sadly it was raining the whole time, so we couldn‘t really use it. Carlos and Hina were wonderful hosts. Carlos even organized a car and the ferry tickets for us. This was amazing. It is a bit far from the airport.
- Steve (10/5): Wonderful beachside property - Lovely hut-style property beside the beach. Spotlessly clean, full facilities and a lovely friendly owner. Highly recommended! No comments to make - it’s a great place to stay!
- Theodora (8/5): A no frills paradise far from the crowds - Location right at a quiet beach. The Host, Carlos was amazing and helpful and attentive to guests needs - responded quickly to requests. The Caretaker, Hina, was also very pleasant and helpful Pillows and kitchen supplies could use an update
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good - Carlos and Hina were beyond excellent hosts. Kind, friendly, helpful, and attentive! The location is amazing, right on the beach, beautiful landscaping. You can't find better. The bungalow is super cute. I love the porch looking out to the ocean and the covered patio. The bed was comfortable too. The bathroom was in great shape. I would definitely recommend this property for a vacation spot. It was incredible. The kitchen appliances were a little beat up and rusty, but it is right on the beach...the internet is very unreliable which made working here very difficult. Carlos did say they should be getting fiber optic internet in a few months. I'll definitely be back but the length of stay will depend on the internet.
- Martina (8/5): Very good -
- Mette (9/5): Lovely bungalow on the beach - Beautiful bungalow on the beach and a very friendly host It’s far from everything, so I’ll recommend a rental car. Parking is available and it’s perfect for exploring the southern part od Tahiti
- Karen (8/5): Very good - Super cute huts that sleep 4. One really nice sturdy queen and also bunk beds. Right on the beach. Friendly owners. Great dog. About 20 roosters live nextdoor so bring earplugs!
- Hinau (10/5): Exceptional -
- Olga (9/5): Superb - I like how calm it was...clean and friendly staff...
- Sue (10/5): A beautiful place to stay, wonderful staff and absolute beachfront. - A little bungalow right by the sea. At night you can hear the waves on the beach. The bungalow was all self contained with cooking facilities and fridge and air con and fans.
It had an outdoor area with a BBQ.
We really enjoyed our stay here, it was beautiful.
There is a bus service from Papeete or you can rent a car via the accommodation.
About 40 kms from Papeete but only about 8kms from Taravao. In a little town you can buy fresh fish straight from the boat at the weekend, it has a small Carrefore and a Supermarket U.
- Tonya (7/5): Overall pleasant short stay, lovely to fall asleep and wake to sound of ocean waves - Clean, quiet and private. Perhaps more family friendly? no games or toys for kids. No simple coffee filters for coffee machine, no garbage can in bungalow (just small one in bathroom and on porch) Beach is not very swimmable at the time of year we were there a notice about this would have been nice. Maybe mosquito coil for outside time (?)- maybe posted guide of recommendations for grocery/meals/excursions for easy reference
- Ivana (9/5): Superb - All about the accommodation and all services/help and kindnesses from the owner Carlos were fantastic and made our journey and stay unforgettable
- Eva (9/5): Would definitely stay here again - The property was right on the beach so you could hear the waves. It had everything you needed, even Netflix. The bed was very comfortable and had a mosquito net. It had a lovely terrace to sit on which was great when it was raining. It is a rural location so a car is needed to get out and about but I only had the car for the first week of my 2 week stay and that was ok. They have a washing machine that you can use but no drier. Hina is very helpful as is Carlos, nothing was too much trouble for them and they made my whole stay very pleasant. Some things were showing signs of wear and tear but this is expected when it is so close to the sea with corrosion.
- Heimo (10/5): perfect easy stay in tahiti - good
- L (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful with great beach access, quiet and small, not a resort
- Panagiota (9/5): Superb - Great hostess, beautiful location, comfortable, liked the sound of the waves at night. It wasn't very clean
- Lillian (3/5): Poor - I love visiting the islands and I do not like giving bad reviews as each to their own in what they like as a holiday space to stay. I will say that when we stayed here we had booked in for three nights. We arrived and the weather was cold and misty and raining, we had that for two days, yes you get that in the Islands. We pulled out after two nights and went back around to the sunny side and stayed an extra night in Papeete.
I can totally see this place being a nice place if you have sun lol and the section was better looked after The fale was very dark, which wasnt helped by the cold misty weather, our cups and dishes were not clean. The place has a dog and I think others visit. The person looking after the place didnt clean up after the dogs so there was quite a few dog bombs around that you had to avoid, Dogs everywhere on the island so get used to that hehe, and the road noise was rather a let down, really busy first thing in the morning 5.30am 6.30am
- Aremiti (8/5): The stay was great and we really enjoyed the location, mauruuru - Location is great, right on the beach and close to Taravao.
- Florence (7/5): Good - Great location! Beautiful setting. Wonderful spot to watch sunrise over the ocean. Helpful and friendly host.
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - The bungalow on the black sand beach. No staff connection at all. We would have liked to learn about local suggestions.
- Jessica (10/5): We miss Fare already - The dog Fare was our favorite travel pet ever! He is the sweetest and will love to accompany you to the beach by flashlight and entertain you with his crab hunting! Great bungalow in a beautiful spot situated close to Iti.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Rita (10/5): Fantastic stay on a black sand beach, I highly recommend it! - Great location! Serene and peaceful! Right on a black sand beach that is great to swim and snorkel. We rented a cat from Carlos too. It was great to travel all around the island. Dori, the dog, was wonderful and a great protector. Nothing!!!
- Philo (7/5): Nice hosts, near Mokarran Diving - Clean and comfortable, authentic lodging that is basic.
- Cat (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely gorgeous, Carlos took such great care of us from the airport throughout are stay. He even retrieved our ferry tickets and insured we arrived on time . The huts are perfect and the staff is warm and welcoming
Private beach and fresh fruit in the fridge
I'm so glad we did not stay in the city It's a beautiful drive along the coastline and you can rent a car directly from him . I cannot say enough about his hospitality.
- Veronika (10/5): We just loved it ! we fell in love with Fari the dog, who was keeping us company all our stay. Hina was really lovely an - Fari, the dog was the best!
beautiful beach, everything was so quiet , nice and calm
- Mari (10/5): Amazing property and superb hosts - This was the best experience! The property is absolutly stunning, the huts are super cozy and it even has a private beach. And Carlos and Hina, the hosts, are the best and provide excellent service. Thank you!! .
- Gustavo (9/5): Superb - The beach and the views, Black sand beach but amazing views.
Close to town and to restaurants
Very convenient if you are into nature, everything is close (30min drive).
The landlord is very friendly
- Kateřina (8/5): Very good - Great place next to the beach.
- Galina (8/5): Thank you so much for everything you did for us. We will be back. - A great location, right on the beach and you can hear the ocean at night in the bungalow. Conveniently located for all attractions, grocery stores and restaurants. The owner and the manager of the property very friendly and always willing to help with anything, and the sweetest lovely dog, who is guarding the property. The property needs a little bit interior cosmetic remodeling.
- Wallace (9/5): Superb - Location location location Air-conditioning was great but did not have a control.
- Dolores (7/5): never met the owner so can’t brag about a friendly owner. had trouble with them processing credit card so had to pay in - exterior was exactly as expected. well maintained and lovely interior was less than ‘rustic’. contact paper on kitchen table and around stove top peeling off. remote for air conditioner didn’t work due to missing spring in battery area. no paper towels or tissues provided. no dish towels for drying dishes -had to use bath towel used bath towel as hot mitt to remove tray from toaster oven
- Richard (5/5): Passable - Really nice garden and beatuifull black sand beach right in front of bungalows. we had portable AC in the bungalow, it was very loud, stromg wind. without quiet mode. A lot of quick fixes in bungalow as they are old. Need a renovation.
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (7/5): Good -
- Matthew (10/5): This place is a gem. It’s not a fancy resort, it is a peaceful beach bungalow. It was very serene. - It is very secluded and has a nice private little beach. The host was extremely nice and took great care of me. I also liked the dog on the property. Nothing. It was amazing.
- Brian (9/5): Superb -
- Stacey (8/5): This is unbeliev - The bungalows are well equipped and right on a beach. Ideal for a couple or adults with kids. The little dog Fare is adorable and very good at digging for crabs. Just make sure you have plenty of insect repellent and if you wish to sit outside in the evening you will need coils to burn.
- Fabienne (5/5): Passable -
- Kathryn (10/5): Beachfront, clean and comfortable - exactly what we wanted - This accommodation totally met our expectation and hopes. It was private, quiet, right on a lovely beach, good size, great deck with a view of the sea, comfy bed, lots of hot water in shower, central location. It was a bit rustic, but that suited us fine. We were able to buy groceries and have a simple meal on the deck and enjoy a bottle of wine in the evening. For people reading this - it was not a posh resort style accommodation - with daily room servicing, fresh towels, polished new furnishing, etc, but that is not what we were looking for. We stayed 5 nights. Unexpected bonuses: air conditioning. TV with Netflix, good wifi Honestly, there was nothing we didn't like. That is not to say it would meet everyone's expectations, but we were very happy with all aspects of our stay.
