Guest Reviews
- Nicola (10/5): - Lovely staff. Room was great. Towels were very fluffy. The bed was extremely comfortable. The food in the pub was really good.
- Paul (10/5): Very good. - Very comfortable room with very welcoming staff at the pub. Though I would advise don't go Monday as its a late check in and no breakfast. But the room was very nice, only minor issue was the coffee maker didn't work but it was very clean, very comfortable and amenities were excellent.
- Nina (10/5): - Amenities and local information in room very well thought out and comprehensive. Lots of fluffy towels and cosy bed cover. Friendly staff and excellent evening meal.
- Gabby (10/5): Cosy and Welcoming - Amazing experience with staying at the Inn! Staff were all welcoming and friendly, the room we were booked in looked amazing and very niche! (I really like the interior design and the little details!) we will definitely come back again here again! I will mention though drinks were pricey but that something to overlook at.
- Samantha (10/5): - Host was so friendly. We got in late, had flown over night from the US, hadn't slept in 36 hrs. The place was cozy and adorable. Didn't have a phone cube for England, let me borrow one for the night, we slept for 12 hours! He filled up our water bottles in the morning. Such a lovely place.
- Michelle (10/5): We will be back to stay again. - This was part of my birthday celebrations and it did not disappoint. The room was clean and cosy and had everything we needed.
The food was also great and the staff friendly.
It was a perfect stay and we would of stayed an extra night if the room wasn't already booked.
- andrew (10/5): - Great spot! Great bar! Great staff. Cute village. I recommend it.
- Paul (6/5): - Silly toilet seat not great!!!
Pub closing at 10.00 not great
No breakfast not great
- Mark (10/5): - Beautiful area and beautiful pub. Wonderful food and lovely deserts. Friendly staff and lovely customers, talkative and easy to talk to. Amazing place to be..
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No service practically. Dirty and tiered room.
- Gunther (8/5): - Room was clean and comfortable . Food was good with large portions. Only downside had to rush to get there for check-in by 2.30 pm or then hang around till they opened at 5 pm for next check-in time. They close between 2.30 and 5 so wasn’t even able to get a drink. Otherwise the overall experience was good
- Suwayne (8/5): - I really didnt appreciate how check in was at 5:30pm.That is a ridiculous hour. The check in personnel wasnt friendly or professional nor did he explain the check in process properly so I waited an extra half hour before being checked in.There is a pub below the rooms, food wasn't great.Check out was seemless.
- John (10/5): A great experience. - This was a one night stay and we were very pleased to be staying in a lovely period room. The décor was tastefully appropriated and clean.
The whole service experience was of a high standard. We would definitely stay again.
- joan (10/5): - Lovely charming place. Very quiet. Comfy beds. Great Food, Staff are great as well. Would recommend this place.
- Nicholas (6/5): - Clean room, comfortable beds. Pub premises so some noise until late. Bedside light not working (no bulb), main lights not great. Bathroom light over sink not working. Plug in sink not functional
- Matthew (8/5): - Staff were friendly, easy to check-in and check out
- James (6/5): - Right, now everything was excellent apart from one very important thing. There was no hot water at night after travelling up and after being out all day the next day obviously you'd want to shower. But no! Had to wait till the following morning. I did get refunded for one night but really should have been refunded for both.
- Susan (8/5): Nice old pub - We had to give up with the shower. We had been working in Bath and we were both in need of a shower. The water wouldn't heat up. My daughter returned to the bar where we had checked in and a young lady behind the bar said that she would try to reboot it. 10 minutes later still only luke warm. Same 20 minutes after that and we were so tired by then that we had a wash and went to bed.
- Lee (10/5): Good - Nice little pub room. Very nice staff
- Wingrove (8/5): Excellent pub food - We found the lighting poor due to light bulbs glow orange making the room dark. Mattress uncomfortable and dated.
Coffee making machine, cups too large for the stand making it unsafe to use.
Pub food excellent five star, staff spot on. Would I stay here again yes if they updated their accommodation.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Charming double room - Very cute double room with en-suite in a very charming pub. Bed was comfortable, selection of teas available in the room and access to iron and ironing board. Perfect place for our two night stay whilst attending a wedding nearby.
- Paula (10/5): - Lovely place to stay - comfortable, clean rooms and everything we needed. The little booklet in the room with places to get breakfast, local walks and local taxi numbers was also a nice touch.
A reallly pleasant place.
- Khurram (10/5): - Great Customer service & very friendly staff
- John (10/5): - Nice, friendly staff,
- Terence (10/5): The Cross Keys - Utterly fantastic location & venue.
Friendly staff, and good food. The room was very well kept.
- Jamie (10/5): - Perfect stay
- Khurram (10/5): Excellent - Great Service & very Helpful Staff,
Clean & comfortable bed, clean bathroom
- Rebecca (10/5): - Lovely clean and spacious room. Perfect for what we needed with the option to eat in the pub. The bar staff were really friendly. Looking to book again for December
- adrian (10/5): - Excellent, beautifully decorated and very friendly staff. Recommended.
- Ian (8/5): - Enjoyable stay, will revisit next time it’s on route.
- Ruth (8/5): - Excellent service in restaurant, friendly, cosy accommodation.👍
- Mats (8/5): Just what you need after a long day! - Fairly large room, big and comfy bed (quite soft mattress, but not too soft even when I like a firm mattress).
Slept like a log (whcih isn't always the case when I'm staying in a "new" palce).
No bath-tub, but nice big shower-head.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful people.
- Victoria (10/5): - Super room with beams and super high ceiling. Modern en-suite with the added touch of Faith in Nature hair and body wash. Lovely touches of trinkets and comfy couch pillows to make it homely and plush. Definitely will stay again. Thank you 😊
- matt (10/5): One night stay - Perfect stay for a short notice trip. Nice sized room, clean and comfortable. Check in was easy. Was a monday night when pub closes earlier so peaceful from abut 9.30pm and nice ambiance in the pub before that.
- Martin (10/5): Great country pub hotel - Country pub with rooms. Room was comfortable and clean and bed was fine. The food in the pub was superb with a great selection of locally sourced produce and the beer was fantastic. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Alas they don’t do breakfast so had to travel away. Lovely place for 1 night
- Nauzet (10/5): Don’t think twice! - Pristine clean, wonderfully decorated, spacious, comfortable, warm and cosy! beautiful village!
- Allison (10/5): Cross keys - Lovely hotel with doacious bedrooms excellent products and the food was the best we've tasted in a long time.
The owners were very welcoming and the locals were friendly. Not much to do in the village but a lovely stop over. Would definitely reccommend
- andrew (10/5): Cross keys, 👌 - Great hotel/venue. Room are spotless and comfortable. I arrived before check in and then back later in the evening. Staff are fantastic and went the extra mile 👌 10/10
- Jonathan (8/5): Nice spacious room - Nice size room, bed comfy but noise from the bar was extremely loud until around 11.30pm and I couldn’t hear the TV
- Qian (10/5): - Nice staff, beautiful room with very cozy decoration, and they're also using the Faith In Nature grapefruit Shampoo which made the whole journey feel like back home. Would definitely recommend it to others.
- Sophie (2/5): Poor customer service - No hot water in shower. Reported to staff who confirmed we could have a refund but never refunded us after multiple tries to contact them
- Sajid (10/5): - Great place to stay if in countrysides
- Adam (6/5): Could be better.. could be lovely. - The bar is very quaint with a lovely atmosphere and good selection of beers.
The room was well presented but no big light, only lamps. Although this gives a soft atmosphere it was very difficult to get ready for a New Year’s Eve ball with such poor lighting.
The communication was terrible prior to booking.
Phoned and was told to email, emailed without a reply, rephoned snd was told to email..
I asked if I could book the New Year’s Day meal and was told they weren’t sure if there was space..
I was told someone would be in touch to confirm either way.. I didn’t receive a call.
If you can put up with this poor communication and dark room then you’ll probably have a lovely time.
- William (10/5): - The room was really nice and it was perfect for an evening in Bath and a visit to Frome. And Rode was lovely too.
- Alfonzo (10/5): - Very clean and very welcoming. Will recommend to friends that need a place to stay near Bath. Fantastic location.
- Tracy (10/5): - What can I say outstanding from the room to the restaurant, food was beautiful and brilliant value for money would definitely stay again
- andrew (10/5): Cross Keys - Great value, rooms are great and overall 10/10. One tiny criticism would be no breakfast availability however I should have checked upfront. Definitely use again 👍🙏
- Brian (4/5): - The food was poor and badly cooked. The pork chops were pork shoulder and were tough. The mattress was not "hotel standard ". The serving staff were pleasant but inexperienced.
- Stephen (10/5): - Very nice room particularly for the price
- Chona (8/5): - Parking space a bit full since it's a restaurant as well, but can park on road side which is a walking distance and just moved car when it's clear, which was not really a problem for me. Good restaurant and food, good room with ensuite and with comfy bed. Only stayed overnight. Definitely will choose them in the future
- Janice (10/5): - Clean and cosy. Great food. Near good dog walk
- Vicky (10/5): - Lovely place, friendly staff and beds really comfy
- Samantha (6/5): An ok stay - Very pretty place, but didn’t seem very welcoming of guests. We had dirty glasses in the room and there was a bitten nail on bedside table when we arrived.
Room two is right above a smoking shelter so there is a smell.
The bed had two stacked mattresses so was very very soft.
However, it served its purpose for our stay to see Bath/ Longleat and Stonehenge for mine and my twins 30th Birthday.
On the Monday (day of arrival) we were advised the pub was closed but it would open the following evening, there was no mention of needing to book, and was advised when we went in the pub that “they couldn’t really take anymore people” (there was only 2 tables in at this time). On departure we were told to just leave the keys in the room and depart, which we did.
- mark (8/5): - outstanding cuisine
- Victoria (10/5): - Attended an event in Frome and chose here to stay. It was a short taxi ride away but we had beautiful rooms, well equipped and very comfortable. The decoration and attention to detail in the bedrooms were amazing. Very quick and friendly check in.
- ann (10/5): - Family atmosphere by all - very welcoming - rooms lovely
- Tatiana (10/5): - W had a great stay here -lovely pub with tasty food, great service and very comfortable room! Thank you!
- Ian (4/5): Poor service from Hotel.con - The restaurant is not open on a Monday.
And they can’t not provide breakfast.
Hotel.com website that that breakfast was available at an extra cost and the restaurant was open. Hotels.com help on this was no help. No apology. Rubbish service!
- ALAN (10/5): - Very good value for money. Good food served by very pleasant staff
- Tracey (10/5): - Great location but bit run down in places. Ideal for a city stayover
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect for a one night stop over after a family party.
- Tony (10/5): Brilliant - Room was amazing, home made burger was the nuts and the staff were excellent
- Neil (10/5): - A lovely room at a great price located in the courtyard of a nice little pub. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
- Chris (10/5): - The pub is a lovely little place in a very beautiful part of the world. Easy check in and was everything my wife and I needed. Food in the pub is very good and so was the local ale. Had a great break 10/10
- Stephanie (10/5): - Large, comfortable room. Excellent evening meal.
- Charlotte (10/5): - Beautiful location. Lovely hosts. Fantastic restaurant and the hotel room
Itself had everything you need for a lovely stay. Would highly recommend
- mark (10/5): My Review - Could not be more pleased with everything at the Cross Keys 10 out of 10
- Aleksandra (10/5): Heavenly - Did not expect it to be so cozy and truly amazing and friendly staff and people who really wanted to know how our day was . Very clean, all the small details and touches made it so warm and felt like home not in a hotel and the food was amazing. I usrge you to visit and support this place
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): Below average standard reflected in price - The room was a little shabby, large plaster area on wall which hadn't been painted, butterfly and spider on window, no door on wardrobe, only one set of towels (there were 2 guests which had been stipulated on booking), no bath mat, there was dirt and dust gathered all around the outside of the base of the shower, no milk to go with the tea & coffee facilities, no breakfast available (the booking stated that this would need to be ascertained on arrival). The upside was that the room was warm despite the corridor leading up to it being cold. The staff in the restaurant were a little inexperienced and it took me a while to get their attention to request the bill.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - On first inspection the room seemed nice. Unfortunately you could see the bed has been a problem previously as logs were placed underneath to keep the slats in place. General cleanliness let the room down as I feel with a bit more tlc, it could be so much better. Could do with decorating to give a better vibe.
I couldn’t fault the pub and it’s food, such a shame about the accommodation
- Ged (8/5): - Great place to stay
- jillie (8/5): - Room was ok but a bit cold, bed comfy. Downside was no milk or powdered milk to go with the tea or coffee and second morning shower ran cold.
- John (10/5): lovely pub with character and good food. - Friendly service and tasty well presented dinners.
The room had some recent plaster repair work but was very comfortable, clean and spacious. We enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.
- Verified traveler (2/5): A PLACE TO AVOID - Firstly, the manager tried to authorise my bank card and cancel my booking two days before I was due to arrive. The room looked like it needed cleaning, the shower was grubby and the fixtures looked tired & old, also the window would not close and the hot tap was constantly running and would not turn off. We decided to eat here because we had a very long journey. However, the service was very poor, they gave our table reservation to someone else and asked if we would share a table with other people, the food was poor quality and mostly inedible. I tried to speak to the manager regarding all of these issues but she was very disagreable to anythink I had to say and basically treated me as an unwanted complaining customer. Definatley avoid this B&B.
- Georgina (4/5): Won't stay again!! The worst noisy place ever - The room was nice enough although in need of a bit better care, the bathroom shower is quite grubby and stank of bleach, there's part of the wall unpainted. The bed was comfortable and good space in the room. However the worst part of the stay was the total and utter lack of respect on the noise level. We were put in a room closest to the bar and on a Sunday night we didn't expect there to be a party/brawl going on in the pub. There were loads bangs like things being thrown around, shouting and cheering, loud music and it was honestly just horrendous. For this reason I wouldn't stay there again. No one was there on check out to give a key to either or to tell them of our unpleasant experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely building, the room could be improved decoratively but would definitely stay again, meal was 1st class. Bed was very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Weekend - The breakfast was delicious and friendly staff
- E (10/5): - Really lovely stay. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was great and the staff offered good advice on local places to go and eat too.
The room was comfortable and a good size.
- Verified traveler (10/5): lovely place and people - Lovely little pub with very welcoming people and the locals are also very friendly food was amazing I will definitely be going back to stay in the future
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap and cheerful, sadly disappointing - Nice quiet location, however underwhelming , room tried and dated, decor needs updating , holes in the walls, evidence of water ingress, a bit passed its sell by date , positives cheap , quite location
Chose to eat out so cant comment on the food
- dawn (4/5): - No milk in the room so went to the bar to get some and had it given in a flask. In the morning went to make a coffee, no mugs. Tried to make a coffee in the flask and when I poured it out (into a glass) black scum was floating in it. Didn’t have a shower as it was full, and I mean full, of black hairs! However, bed was wonderfully comfy and I had a great sleep and the room was massive.
- Paul (6/5): - the tap was runnimg allnight toilet water running all night shower when used water over bathroom floor tv remote needs battery but the bed was very comfy & linen clean needs a couple of chairs either side of bed as only bed to sit on nice old pub
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff were extremely friendly and make you feel welcome. The rooms are really outdated and need updating. The food was OK but more choice would be better.
- Laura (8/5): Five star food and service - The location is lovely as is the historic building itself. The staff were efficient, smiley and friendly. Food was excellent - five star quality - and the room large and airy. Will definitely book again when im back for work trip.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were very helpful and friendly .the food was excellent .it was very nice and quiet area i would defenetly stay there again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice pub, food was great and the staff were friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was a lovely friendly place. Breakfast was awesome. Admittedly there were a few attention to details that could be looked at and fixed, ie toilet trickled and cold tap didn’t turn off. But wasn’t really a problem for staying there, it was a clean bed, spacious rooms and everything you needed for a stay, so I was very happy. Would definitely stay again. We stayed as we went to longleat house and safari park. About 15 minute drive, so perfect and good price too compared to others around the longleat area. The pub and outdoor area was beautiful too. If your a critic and expect complete perfection, complete peace and quiet, perfect decor and not a spec of dust then don’t stay here. If you are happy for value for money and having general comforts and genuinely friendly staff, this is the one for you. Thank you to the staff there. We had a comfy stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No food on Mondays. Meals only Ok on other days. Rooms Ok for budget Hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The food was fabulous. Everything food wise was just perfect so we overlooked the slightly grotty room. Staff very friendly and the village beautiful. When the rooms are updated, as I'm sure they will be in time, this pub will be a gem
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent meals in the pub, really friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service and friendly staff. Wonderful food. Large room.
- ALAN (4/5): Mixed feelings - The room would have been ok, the bed was comfortable but there were some issues. A previous review, from 2018, refers to some minor holes in the wall and some mould around the base of the shower and halfway up the tiles. It was there still. The plumbing had a problem when the loo was flushed making a loud humming noise lasting quite a while plus loo seat would not stay up, not really good for a guy!
Again there had been a review referring to issues with the loo.
The meal was also a mixed bag. my wife ordered the tartiflette which looked or tasted nothing like a tartiflette. it tasted more like a cheese and onion quiche. There wasn't any gammon and didn't taste any potato either. The price I feel was over the top as this dish only came with a few green beans and nothing else. my wife was still quite hungry afterwards. The wine list that was printed off was not accurate we ordered what the list had down as an Australian sauvingnon blanc. My wife actually said the name of the wine sounded Mexican/Chilean rather than Australian. when the wine arrived it was as we suspected a Chilean. which tasted quite cheap. we wish we had ate elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Lovely old pub in a nice village. Try the coffee shop on the post office.
No chef available in the evening to cook food. Fixtures an fittings look at big tired.
