Guest Reviews
- Callum (10/5): Stunning part of Wales, beautiful cosy cottages, warm fireplace! - The cottages were absolutely lovely, in an incredibly beautiful location in the Dee Valley not far from Llangollen and just off of the A5 main road towards Corwen, Bala, Betws y Coed, Snowdonia, and the coast for those wishing to travel deeper into Wales from here.
The cottages themselves were cosy, well kept, stocked up, beyond pretty, and had both a log fireplace and a central heating/cooling system that you could schedule to warm/cool the house for your return. We stayed in the Swallow cottage which had two bedrooms, one for up to two guests and another main room with a huge window with a view, sweeping curtains and a extra large bed. There was extra bedding, ironing and drying facilities, vacuum cleaner and cleaning equipment, as well as a washing machine, dishwasher, etc that would be needed for longer stays if needed.
If something was missing or you needed anything both Katharine and Simon, the owners and hosts, lived on the same estate and were very welcoming, hospitable and incredible hosts. My only regret was not getting to talk more with them.
The cottages are perfect for those who wish to have a getaway hideout away from the noise of everything and relax at the homes for a few weeks or a weekend, or for those who want to go out and explore the surrounding area. For those who are looking at exploring and getting out, whether adults or family, Katharine and Simon have already done a lot of the hard work for you. When you enter on the coffee table is a binder full of information that you may need, everything from the looking after the cottage to dining out and going out. There was walk, local businesses, nearby pubs and restaurants etc, all well described and written out as clear guided as possible. If none of these activities interest you then there is also a basket full of leaflets of great activities. I felt a need to mention as I was overly impressed with the extra effort. Would book again! I don't believe I can really mention anything negative really. I would give advice for anyone staying in the guest rooms to check if the radiator is on before you go to bed as it can get really cold in there at night. Found that out the hard way, but once on there is no issues with heating. And for those who don't plan on using their own transport, the bus stop is a bit of a walk away(20 mins west) and the signal for mobile networks can be a bit poor if calling a taxi office.
- Britta (9/5): Cosy, dog-friendly cottage with beautiful views - We stayed in Swallows Cottage, which has stunning views across the valley. We loved to wake up and have coffee on the porch, listening to the birds and looking out at the view. The cottage is northeast facing so you get lovely sun in the morning and then it’s shaded in the afternoon (with some sun on the lawn, just not in the house). Then in the evening we could light fire in the fireplace and enjoy the cozy space.
We also loved having a fenced in area to let the dog out. The host was very welcoming and the information booklet in the cottage was helpful with lots of information about local places to visit walk and eat. The location is great, only about 5-10 minutes drive to town.
We cooked dinner in the kitchen most evenings. It was very well, equipped. The one time we did eat out was at the closest pub just down the road - it has a stunning view and was great for a drink (but the food was meh). In town, we really enjoyed sitting along the river at the CornMill for appetizers, and another night we went to the wine bar, which had the most friendly staff. One day we rented a private a boat on the canal, which was excellent for our group members who had limited mobility and needed regular access to a toilet. We really loved our stay there. If I was being picky I guess a few things to note: Downstairs is very cosy - perhaps a little bit crowded for three people, but it was manageable (and I think also reflected in the excellent price). The hot water ran out quickly in the shower (but not the kitchen). There is some noise from the road that runs nearby - but I wouldn’t say it’s intrusive / more just background noise- and you don’t hear it inside or at night.
- Gareth (9/5): Well-appointed cottage set in the Dee Valley with fabulous views. - Charming, rural cottage surrounded by fields and stunning views. Lovely hosts, great facilities. Cottage was well-appointed, clean and appeared recently refurbished to a high standard. Beds were comfortable, wi-fi worked well and log-burner was an extra bonus. Enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Nothing not to like, though an extra TV in the bedroom would have been a nice touch.

- Steven (10/5): This was a great family break, top off with an outstanding accommodation - We loved everything about our stay and the accommodation was amazing!! So much so we are hoping to visit again next year!!
The owner were lovely and even posted some photos, we accidentally left behind🤦♂️ I can honestly say there is nothing I didn’t like about our stay. It was just all so great, even the weather was kind!!
- Vicky (10/5): We had a wonderful stay at the cottages, they’re in such a beautiful location and the properties have everything you nee - Perfect location and attention to detail in the little touches. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): A lovely Christmas stay in a gorgeous location in a really comfy cottage. Would 100% recommend. - Everything: the location/view, the unexpected thoughtful surprise of a decorated and lit up Xmas tree for our Christmas Eve arrival. The lovely log fire, the comfort of the cottage. Genuinely can’t think of anything.
- Martin (10/5): This was a lovely place to stay, highly recommended - Everything was excellent, the location was perfect and our hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
- Meldrum (9/5): - Beautiful location and good accommodation and facilities
- Slot (10/5): - De cottage is een stukje paradijs op aarde. Niks
- Gary (10/5): 3 night stay - Lovely place a real home from home, location is brilliant
- David (10/5): Highly recommend!!! - Beautiful cottage, fully equipped with everything you could need, fantastic views and perfect location for exploring north Wales. Nothing to dislike! It’s perfect.
- Joanna (10/5): Rest and reset in a beautiful location - It is a wonderful location and a dream of a property. Spacious and everything we could need. Loved the veranda for a meal with a view. Simply perfect for a rest and reset. Nothing at all.
- Ken (10/5): North Wales Vacation! - Hi. Hope the hosts, Katherine and Simon, don't take this the wrong way because we all loved our time there, and the main reason being, apart from the glorious location, was the non OCD aspect to the repair of the lodge itself.
It was perfectly imperfect!!
I don't mean it was unclean or in disrepair. The kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms were certainly clean enough but the whole cottage had a relaxed vibe to it. We felt immediately comfortable there. We were able to walk through with shoes on and plonk gear down without feeling guilty. A big plus towards relaxation. Some places you go you're afraid to move or breathe for fear that the breeze you create will cause something to move out of place, that you need a hovver board to get from front door to bedroom in case you get a speck of dirt on the carpet!
In short, loved it!
Unless you're a perfectionist, you'll love it too!
Simon, hope you have a great time in Prague on the bikes, sorry we left before saying goodbye and can you put my mum's c charger to one side for when we come back..🤦♂️😄 Zip!
- Mike (10/5): -
- Shounak (10/5): -

- Francesca (5/5): Fabulous property with exceptional views. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful with questions - Location and view was wonderful/ lovely walk from the cottage down to railway Nothing all was perfect as it was
- Cath (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous location, stunning scenery, and a home from home. Spotlessly clean, friendly welcoming hosts, and lots to do nearby. Would definitely return, missing it already! It was all perfect ❤
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional - Relaxing ,great views, cosy, value for money , 🌝
- Penla (10/5): Exceptional - What an absolute gem this place is. The views are incredible for starters. The cottage is so homely, and attention to detail is very high. FANTASTIC. It's definitely a home from home stay with everything you could possibly want and more. We took our puppy Radebee, who is an escape artist Simon and Katharine, have made the garden so secure no escaping for him. And the best of it, he made a new friend Daisy, the black lab. Looking forward to returning.
So anyone looking for that special break look no further HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
- Huw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (10/5): An absolutely beautiful property in a stunning location. - The location is absolutely beautiful. It has an open fire which was set for us on arrival, nice touch. I almost don’t want to write this review as we want the property to be available next time we book! If I had to say something, the mattresses are quite firm but that wouldn’t deter us from staying there again.
- Helen (10/5): Hosts couldn’t be more accommodating - It had everything we could need for our stay Nothing it was great
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location with amazing views of the Dee valley and easy access to attractions in the area and slightly further afield to Conwy and Snowdonia. Accommodation was a modern luxury take on a traditional cottage, the best of both worlds.
- Kirsty (10/5): An absolutely beautiful stay. Very cosy, gorgeous surroundings. We can’t wait to return thank you :) - The location. The views. The sheer beauty Absolutely nothing. It was all fantastic.

- Lesley (10/5): Lovely stay at Wagtails thank you - Have just enjoyed a four night break at Wagtails. Owners are welcoming and helpful. Well equipped cottage with comfortable beds. Walks across the fields to the railway track. Can see the steam trains from the bedroom window.
Location is close to Llangollen, Horseshoe pass and Pontcysyllte aqueduct.
Thanks for a lovely stay. Nothing

- Christopher (10/5): Excellent stay, would recommend - Location and cottage excellent, couldn’t ask for more, very comfortable and cosy No negatives to talk about

The kitchen had everything we needed to be self-sufficient, including a much-needed washing machine and the bedroom was cosy and comfortable. The view was spectacular. Simon was a delightful host, nothing was too much trouble. Swallow Cottage is by far the best accommodation we have had in the UK! Nothing!

- Maria (10/5): Amazing stay with amazing view - We like everything! Stunning view, amazing amenities, strong internet, very nice, responsive and caring hosts. We didn't have an adapter for the outlet and they promptly ordered one from Amazon. Nothing. We had an amazing weekend!!! Definitely will come back
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful hosts were really helpful and made us feel so welcome. Exceptional facilities, mattresses and cookware. Loved it all. Would definitely go back. It was all great.

You can just relax with a book and enjoy the views. It will be easier if there is another bathroom upstairs.
I might have missed this, but maybe add a carbon monoxide alarm as this would have given me peace of mind when using the wood burner. I looked around for one but only saw fire alarm.

The hosts were really friendly and informative of the local area. The cottage and grounds were also excellent for our spaniel. We will definitely be back to this beautiful part of Wales. Nothing - it was perfect! We couldn't find anything negative.
- Katalin (10/5): Fantastic views - Gorgeous cottage, equipped with everything you may need in a holiday home. 5☆facilities, immaculately clean, peaceful and has amazing views over the Dee Valley from the living room and top bedroom. Welcoming hosts. On arrival we were shown around by Catherine and she left lovely treats for us in the kitchen. There was also complementary tea & coffee available.
We couldn't have found a better location for a relaxing, peaceful holiday. It was perfect for outdoor activities, walks, and the nearby Llangollen has shops and restaurants. The cottage was much more spacious than we initially thought from the description, it has two bedrooms, and is very comfortable for a family with two adults and two children. There wasn't anything.

There was plenty of towels and bathroom products, and the bedroom has lots of storage and the most amazing views to wake up to. Would go back in a heartbeat 💓
