• Smith-Evans (6/5): Be careful what you ask for! - No breakfast offered at this facility. Had to leave premises for breakfast. I needed an accessible room due to mobility issues. The first room we were given on the first floor was wonderful! The reason I had to leave was my inability to step into the tub. I needed a walk-in shower. WE were then given a room on the fifth floor. It was horrible compared to the first room - like night and day! The room was half the size of the first one. There was a hole in the wall with no door for a closet - the first room had a big closet with doors. You didn't even have room to hang your clothes without touching the dirty floor. The shower was the worst. The small rail that supposedly kept the water in was rusted and pulled away from the frame. The shower head was placed for a person in a seated position. If you moved the shower head, water squirted everywhere. The floor was filled with water by the time I got out; the bath mat was drenched and so was the floor. The microwave was so difficult to use, we had to get help. This room was a big disappointment.

They handle the unfortunate break down of the key machine very well. I think they deserve raises because they had to escort people to rooms and handle people arriving . It was crazy , I never experienced such an inconvenience, but they handled it well . The room seemed so old and furniture was very worn out . My room got warm at night even with the A/C on , not sure if it cuts off or not, but it was not very comfortable. The window was opened a couple times , but it was loud due to the highway and main road .

However, when I told the front desk staff about the cracked stove top, ripped chairs and discolored dirty floor, she quickly ejected, "oh it just the wear and tear". I'm guessing they accept it as normal, but because I was exetremly exhausted, I guess I had no choice but to accept it. Nevertheless, the bed was comfy for the rested but we checked out same day. Renovation/remodeling. The HIGH price for one night stay, guest should not be in a wear and tear/rundown room.

Facility could use a refresh, Baseboards, floors, wallpaper. Luggage carts falling apart. One of the lamps in our room was missing the light bulb. The we told the front desk, they said no one was available to replace it. She said she would leave a message for the maintenance staff. Our stay was two days, never got the replacement bulb.

Was surprised because it was so incredibly inexpensive. Had I known how nice it was I would’ve come a day earlier.Kitchenette was relatively new, a great selection of cable stations and all the bathroom products were Dove! There was nothing wrong!

• Travis (10/5): - Really enjoyed my stay at Candlewood Suites Newark South – University Area. The rooms were super clean, spacious, and having a full kitchen was a huge plus. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect for getting around town or visiting UD. Definitely recommend!

• Arleane (2/5): - The refrigerator did not work. I called the main desk and was told it would be checked later. Meanwhile, I had purchased food which subsequently went bad. No one came to check it until the morning of my check-out. He said the plug was out and plugged it in, and commented that when the red light is on, it is working. He fixed it. The man at the desk claimed there was some sort of blackout the day before my arrival. If so, they did not check to see if appliances were working. I paid for a room with a kitchen. I could not use the kitchen because I could not put food in the refrigerator.to cook. I was not offered a refund for a kitchen I was rendered unable to use, nor was I refunded the cost of damaged food. On my first night, I requested whether they could order an Uber when I had to return to the train station. The young lady at the desk said yes. On the morning of my departure, I was told that it was not true. They did not even have a number for Uber. I was told Uber could be ordered from my phone, but I needed to have the app. That could only be done on my laptop, which was already packed. They tried to order me a taxi which ultimately could not be sent because the driver did not come into work today. Consequently, I walked from the motel to the train station, a little more than one mile, with a heavily packed wheeled suitcase. Additionally, there was mold around the rim of the bathtub, and burn holes in a chair that also had part of the fiber scraped off.

We only had 3 towels for 4 people and weren't able to get another. Our fridge wasn't running until my husband reset the GFCI plug and our kids' room had a clogged toilet, then leaky radiator in the new room. And the scent in the lobby and hallways was overwhelming.
• courtneyhU7626UP (10/5): THE best staff and clean comfy accommodations - My sister was rushed to the hospital local to this hotel on Saturday evening and placed on life support. My mom and I live in different states and traveled a few hours to be by her side we brought very little with us as we were in a hurry to get to her and had no clue what was in store when we arrived. When it became clear that we were going to be in for a long haul , I called around to a few local hotels. The first and second one that I called actually quoted me over 300 for what would be a 5 hour stay and then raised the rates as I was on hold. Candlewood suites was the third hotel on my list. Latoya answered the phone and I immediately felt at ease and believed that she would help us. I explained a little bit about what was going on and she just took care of everything. She said , you just get here and we will work it all out." We ended up staying the week and have booked another in the assumption that we will need lodging while my sister wakes up from her coma and is slowly taken off life support. (She has done both at the time of this review!) In a time when I question all of humanity, I cannot explain what it means to my family to have a hotel welcome my distraught family with open arms, provide us with clean and comfortable accommodations and inquire about our sick family member each time we enter the lobby. I hope that this review makes its way to the right people. Having a woman like Latoya as the first person to greet you is the absolute right choice. She is spectacular and when we look back at this horrible experience, we will ALWAYS remember her grace, kindness and empathy. I would also like to thank jay who was also so kind and accommodating and Nikki who helped us more than she could ever know. To the powers that be: you have an incredible staff ! They are all deserving of everything good.

• Edward (6/5): - Staff was good room ok until found roach in bathtub. Some drama around a guest at check in which made us not feel all that safe. Staff was good though
• Companion03031146318 (6/5): August 8, 2025 - Not bad but a bit run down. The leather on the chairs are peeling, the hardware on the bathroom vanity is all rusted and there was an odd odor in the room. Other than that the bed is comfortable, and it is fairly clean
• Jesse (2/5): - Horrible amount of bug all over linens and fabrics looked them up and they are ventricas mite. Was shown no respect from the woma the man otherwise was very respectul. We showed maintenence workers and maids who said rhey are in everywhere. Told staff immediately but management denied it all sais my fiance had head lice she was the cause. Almost snapped off some limbs and added to my collection. BEWARE!!!!
