- Juan Carlos (10/5): - Perfecta

- mar (8/5): - Is right at the heart of the city, with easy access to everything. dinning, shopping, church, taxis.
- Samir (10/5): Buen lugar.
- Karyn (10/5): Basic hotel in a great location - Great location and the staff was friendly and efficient.

- Oscar I (8/5): - Pleasant but limited in options, close to shopping zine...

- Nancy (10/5): Highly recommended - I been staying at this hotel every time I come to Colima and is always a great experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very old property, small rooms but very clean
- Isamar (10/5): - Loved the property except my shower was dirty and the room was also not very clean. The parking was a plus.
- Osiris (10/5): - Bonito lugar , hasta ahora todo bien
- David (10/5): - Everything we needed.
- ARIEL (2/5): - When I checked in there was a 3 inch cockroach welcoming to my room, the bathroom (toilet) was dirty, trashcan by the toilet was nasty and full of used toilet paper.
- Bertha (6/5): - Parking drive way to narrow
- Juliana (8/5): overall good stay. Pedro is awesome! - convenience, clean, fantastic staff the small bathroom
- Paul (8/5): - A beautiful hotel in downtown Colima, close to the main cultural attractions and restaurants. The only issue is that the patio rooms have tables outside the rooms and noisy conversations can be an issue.
- Monica (6/5): Pleasant -
- Elvis (10/5): Good for price - Good
They give you welcome water bottle
No elevators
- Nancy (8/5): Good place to stay - Great service, everyone was nice and friendly specially Montserrat at front desk, only issue was that the room and beds were kind of small but I do recommend it, it’s in an excellent location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location, close to catedral in the middle of down town I like it.
Nice and clean, good service,
I like the welcome.
- Nancy (6/5): Never again at this hotel - I had a bad experience at the coffee shop area, I understand it was busy and was ok with waiting but I wasn’t acknowledged for a while, couple behind me were greeted and as soon as they sat, beverages were offered to them by Cynthia (Management). She was very rude, instead of offering me a menu, she kept on asking for the breakfast voucher (which she made it seem it was required to eat there).. so I just walked out, I am for sure not returning to this hotel.
- Not Provided (10/5): Excellent choix qualité prix et service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excelente servicio.
Muy buena ubicacion.
Hermosa evocacion mexicana.
- 1BigSkyWriter (6/5): Great Location - I've stayed here three times during medical appointments. First time we did not get a nice room because, they said, we did not call in advance over a week ahead. Second time we got a nice room. Third time, I got a REALLY crappy room because all the nice rooms were booked. It had NO windows or air flow, no a/c, and the shower had not been cleaned. I even asked for a nice room near the garden. Not sure I'll ever go back. There are other hotels centrally located.
- windsorcottage (6/5): Centally Located - I enjoy staying in three star hotels because they usually have a history, or were once great, but not so this hotel. It´s location, across the street from the La Merced park and church is great. The Federal building is just steps away, plenty of local restaurants and places to shop. The staff was quite friendly although I do not know if they speak English as I spoke only Spanish to them, they helped with taxies and recommendations for eating. The main historical museum is less than three blocks and you will pass other intersting historical sights. My room was clean, although the furnishing were basic and the pillows were hard. There is a nice quiet inner patio where you can read or enjoy something to drink, you have to provide your own although there is a menu for Burger King and another local restaurant that will deliver. I can recommend Hotel La Merced for its price and location.
- plakias1984 (8/5): Good value small hotel - I usually search out hotels in the "Bed & Breakfast/Inn" category - La Merced's #1 rating & excellent price (I paid $27 CDN for a single room) made it an easy choice. I had room 33 in the colonial section of the hotel. The room was small & basic, but perfectly adequate for a single person. This room might be less than ideal for a couple as the double bed is up against the wall. There are different room configurations available, though. The ceiling fan was adequate to cool the room during my December stay. In hotter weather, you might miss A/C as the shutters cannot be opened without sacrificing all privacy. The wifi worked well in the room. The reception staff were pleasant. Location is fine-about 5-10 minutes to walk to the main plaza. TV had 27 Sky TV channels-don't know if any were in English, I didn't turn it on. Bathroom was compact, but perfectly functional. The shower curtain doesn't keep the water within the shower stall though--no bathmat & only 1 towel for a single guest- so no mop up possible.
I was initially delighted to have a room that looked out onto the pretty courtyard. I was less delighted when I found out that the colonial rooms are in no way sound proof. This may or may not be a problem. For the most part the hotel and the surrounding area are quiet at night. There were hundreds of people in the Jardin Nunez during the days leading up to the day of the Virgen of Guadelupe but there was no noise from the Jardin audible in the room. The issues I did have: there was a courtyard table directly under my window. Another guest conducted loud cellphone/Skype conversations there about 9:30 PM & might as well have been in the room with me. There also were loud fireworks during the night which happens during the Virgen of Guadelupe festivities. I suspect I could have paid more to be at the Ceballos in the main plaza and had more issues with noise from the cathedral bells.
An earlier reviewer mentioned there were no window screens - this is no longer the case- my window was screened.
Although I have included some negative comments, this should not be considered a negative review- this hotel represents excellent value & I would definitely consider it again, should I return to Colima.
- bokajo (8/5): Superb and tranquil garden. - Stayed in this hotel two nights in a very small, very clean single room, with a view of the gardens. The street was unremarkable, and it was a surprise to find this hotel. It was a tranquil and a treat to rest in the beautiful gardens after visiting Colima and Comala.
- 77tomasg (8/5): Attractive courtyard - I stayed in this hotel for two nights on a recent trip through Colima. The hotel itself is very quiet; even though the property is right on the Jardin Nunez, you don't really notice any noise.
The room itself was just fine if a bit dark. If it's natural light I wanted, all I had to do was open the door onto a beautiful, well-manicured courtyard and patio that lends the place a Spanish colonial feel and slows the pace of life. There are comfortable couches and chairs on the patio surrounding the courtyard, making this a convenient place to read, check email, or just veg out with a beer.
The Jardin Nunez is only a few blocks from the main plaza and the market, so the location is great. There are other properties around the centro that seem more commercial, so this is an attractive choice, with reasonable rates, too.
- ArtisticGardener (8/5): Charming, Quiet Hotel - We were at this charming hotel in March. The zocalo it is on is a little run down, as are neighboring hotels, so the charming interior of this hotel came as a pleasant surprise. We were in the old section golf the complex where the high ceilinged rooms all surround a very pleasant and clean courtyard garden with plenty of seating. No air conditioning in our room, but there was a common room with A/C we could have used if we had wanted. We would definitely come here again.
- wallysaskatoon (8/5): Great for a short stay - First the downside. There are no phones in the rooms, bath towels are no larger than hand towels, no glasses in the rooms, and hot water had to be turned on for about 2 minutes before the hot water arrived. Now that you heard the bad side, I would highly recommend this hotel for a short stay, up to 3 or 4 days. The rooms are very clean and cozy, away from the street so they are quiet, the staff is very accommodating. There are only 42 rooms, some are tiny, but we stayed in a nice room with one single and one double bed. The location is great, only a 5 minute walk to the main square which is very active in the evening. The area is very safe to walk around in as there are many people, and young families walking about. Price is very reasonable
- debdeclai (8/5): Nice little hotel - I avoid chain hotels, with an exception of a few. I stay in Colima City a lot and seek out the little hole in the wall places downtown. This is a small hotel across the street from one of the main jardins. It was very inexpensive; about $380 pesos (around $30). The room was small, but adequate for me. It had a fan and cold air conditioning, and the room was very clean. The reception staff spoke English and they were friendly and very helpful. Downtown Colima can be quite noisy at night, but somehow the room was very quiet. I would stay here again without hesitation.
- jmmartin93 (6/5): Standard Lodging for the Budget Traveler for a Couple of Days in Colima - This hotel is within easy walking distance of most of what you will want to see in Colima, including the *portales* restaurants that surround the main plaza next to the Cathedral. The rates are enticing and the annex shown in the TripAdvisor photo of the rooms around the patio are roomy and have pretty good beds, TV, and fans. (Colima has a nice climate, somewhat like Xalapa's.) No frills here but good economical lodgings with a friendly staff. I have not stayed in the hotel's older main lobby rooms but the consensus seems to be that these annex rooms just next door are better. There is a *lavanderia* nearby; ask at the desk. Tip: Unlike most cities that have *portales* restaurants (those around a plaza, usually with arches and tables on the sidewalk), the eateries here are very reasonably priced. The nearby Los Naranjos is pricey but good, too, with traditional Mexican fare. Be sure and shop the curio stores for ceramic versions of the little brown hairless dogs this city is famous for.
- DLA_Alaska (8/5): Good Value, Clean and Great Location - We were located in the older rooms around a well maintained court yard and fountain. This may not be your ideal location if you are concerned about other guests outside your room window/door. There were approximately eight other rooms in this area and the court yard is a common area. Also, there were no window screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering the wood shuddered window. A bit of an inconvenience since you do need the fan running in March.
But, the staff was helpful and friendly. They even stored our bags while we traveled for a few days. The Internet functioned well. We were a few blocks from the main Jardin (park square) with a large Jardin across the street. There is an air conditioned TV room in the area beside the court yard.
Overall, La Merced is a good value with clean rooms and a great location in the center of Colima. This was our second stay and we will use it again. However, we’ll probably try a different section of rooms.
- JONHAS_13 (10/5): BETTER THAN EXPECTED - The good: The service is excellent in quality - price, cleanliness and the room where I stayed very clean and comfortable. My handicap room very spacious and functional for people with mobility problems or ill, very functional bathroom. I stayed 4 days at the hotel and I spent very pleasant. maintenance facilities and very good and nice, the garden is beautiful colonial hotel beautifully designed by skilled personnel. The overall hotel staff very helpful, parking, wi fi, sky tv. in general, a great little hotel.
The bad: A night receptionist rude and unfriendly.
- MexicoTravis (8/5): Great location, Economical, super clean, etc. - Spent a weekend at La Merced in Febuary. I was driving so wanted a place with parking, centrally located, etc., and had never been to Colima City. The location is across from a lovely park, and easy walking distance to the main plaza along the "most happening/shopping" street.
My room was spotless (I think in a newer section), and completely comfortable. It's a great value.
- Marilyn025 (8/5): Comfortable small hotel - Hotel La Merced is a small and very comfortable hotel in a great location in Colima. The staff is friendly and helpful. I recently stayed there for a week while looking for housing, and one front desk lady even made phone calls for me. The internet worked in my room, but cool and shady Jardín Nuñez is right across the street, and there are numerous stations for free internet use in the jardín.
I agree with the other review that says it's not fancy but it has everything you need. And the price is right!
They are currently re-doing the facade, so when it is finished, I will post a new photo.
- AmeliaSeattle (8/5): Fabulous value for money - Hotel la Merced is a family run establishment across from the lovely jardin in the center of the town of Colima. Very friendly, clean , and great value for money[we got a room with double bed with fan for about $25] . Quiet and the beds comfortable. Each room has a bathroom and TV and there is bottled water available in the corridor for guests in a large canister.
Not fancy but it had everything we needed.
- Departure9564 (4/5): Spartan accomodations and a downtown location - I do geological fieldwork at nearby Colima volcano and when not campling in the field, am looking for a place to do no more than sleep and take a shower. La Merced is one of my favorites, because it is cheap and centrally located. You can get a safe room, right downtown, for $12-$15 US, compared to 5-10X that amount in almost any other hotel in town. You get what you pay for, but if you prize low cost, safety, downtown location, and reasonable cleanliness, check out La Merced.
