- Karli (9/5): Lovely stay but the bathroom needs a good clean - The location was perfect and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely but more than one piece of toast may have been nice. The bathroom was dirty, and the shower had a lot of mould. The shower dripped non-stop.

Only wish we could have eaten at the restaurant because the menu sounded very nice as well. Also very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms. I lost an ear phone and had to go searching under the bed and there was no dust to.speak.of. There was also a good selection of tea/coffee in the room, and all shampoos/soap/conditioner in the bathroom. The rooms were quite small, and there was a fair amount of mould in the bathroom on the ceiling/in the shower.

- Tracey (10/5): - Lovely quiet village not far from Thirsk and the A1(M). A friendly welcome and a clean comfortable room. We booked for dinner and the food was delicious and service equally friendly. A 10 minute walk after dinner to the abbey ruins down the road was a nice surprise. Great bed and tasty breakfast. All in all an enjoyable place to stop over on the way up to the Lake District. Only down side was that we couldn't connect to their internet.

I did call ahead and asked if it was possible for something anything to be put out for us to eat something - even a banana would have been or cereal would have been appreciated. But was told no. so paid for 2 x breakfasts which we were able to have.

- Chris (8/5): Short yet comfortable stay - A very nice little country Pub just as we imagined it. In a lovely little village surrounded by beautiful countryside. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We only stayed one night and sorry we missed out on the diner at the pub as we were booked in somewhere else. The diner menu looked really nice. Highly recommended and will definitely consider staying there again.

Stayed 2 nights and ate in restaurant. 1st night food was lovely and so was the breakfast. Had 2 poached eggs, lovely runny eggs. The 2nd morning breakfast seemed rushed, my poached egg was hard, toast was burnt. Definitely a different chef to previous day.

- John (6/5): A brief overnight stay that didn’t wow me in any way - Location and decoration The room or rather the bathroom wasn’t clean, the extractor fan needed vacuuming out, there was mould on the walls and ceiling, and it wasn’t exactly the largest of rooms… In addition all of the open areas, bar, stairs and hallway had the smell of cooking fat lingering

- Wilding (6/5): Dissapointing stay! - Location good Having stayed here before we booked again but we were dissapointed to find the quality of the accomadtion had gone down The room was very small the bathroom had no form of heating and had some mould on the walls The second pillows didnt have pillowcases We had to ask for milk as none in the room and were only given 2 sachets?? The bar area which had an open fire was not lit, was dull, and lacked festive ambience, one of the reasons we booked again was that we enjoyed thus feature previously The large glass of Sauvignon blanc I had was in my opinion far to expensive 12.50! these prices are what you would expect from a 5* hotel or a,city hotel certainly not in a small country hotel The food we had was typical bar food but was good and served hot The premises overall are tired and in need of attention we have stayed in much better hotels in the area for the price paid We were truly dissapointed!!

Followed by a similar excellent breakfast. Have to give a very special mention to Xaviar not only for her attention to detail but also her bubbly personality. No complaints.
- Jessica (8/5): Peaceful stay with top tier breakfast - Truly yummy breakfast. Very peaceful location for a good nights sleep. Lovely down to earth staff. Few details missed with cleaning - toothpaste and grubby marks in sink, mould on the shower head. Sink plug wasn’t attached to the chain and was impossible to remove after use, so had to leave a sink full of water. Toilet flush is about to fail. Small details but would make the room seem a bit more cared for. New mattress needed in Badger room - think it was a little collapsed! Bed frame squeaky too. Wouldn’t be put off another visit as price was fair for what we needed.

- Jools (4/5): Disappointing - The twice baked cheese soufflé. Dirty carpet in the hallway and stairway - covered in bits and didn't look as it had been cleaned for a very long time. Bland and dirty bedroom. Dirty en-suite (both the toilet and shower) Disappointing view from the window. So cold in the bar/restaurant that I had to keep my jacket on - and apparently there was no way that the staff could make the room any warmer. Didn't stay for breakfast. Couldn't wait to leave!

The place is located in an ideal place to explore the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside The extractor fan in the en-suite was not functional causing difficulty in removing condensation. Otherwise, everything we expected was fine.

- John (8/5): Enjoyed our stay. Would go again. - The staff were all lovely - very welcoming and helpful. We had lunch & dinner during our stay - the quality was good and it was value for money. The waiting and kitchen staff were patient and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent - a good choice of both hot and cold. The fresh milk for the tea tray was greatly appreciated, as were the freshly baked biscuits. The bed was very comfortable, the towels were soft & there was a good selection of toiletries. There were only a couple of very minor points... The bedroom blind was a bit tired & marked. There was a build-up of dust on the tables & chairs in the bar area. Neither of these would put us off staying again.

The dinner and breakfast were quick to arrive and delicious. Loved the extra touches in the room like proper coffee and cafetiere, milk in a glass bottle, and the home-baked cookie in the tin. Much needed after a drizzly walk! The bed was super comfy. The shower was easy to use and a good temperature. There were extra pillows and bedding in the wardrobe. Spoke to some other people in the car park, who were also delighted to find such a gem! Bathroom a bit small. It was OK for us but anyone with a bit more meat on them or a disability may be unable to stay here as it could be difficult to manoeuvre, and all rooms were upstairs, if I remember rightly.

- Sarah (7/5): Just something lacking. - We like this pub. It’s in the process of changing hands at the moment so they didn’t have some things. Bed comfy and clean room. Menu was good. Breakfast was good. Just seems to have lost something. Don’t know I can’t really say it’s atmosphere not sure can’t put my finger on it. It needs to get up and running before I can really say what if anything when it’s properly up and running. I think it’s probably because there running it down a bit before they fully renovate it. Just not quite sure. I know that sounds strange. But it was definitely lacking I think personality. We will go again when it’s been completely renovated.

The restaurant was busy, had an excellent menu and the staff were very helpful. The room had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was generous and well cooked. We would happily return for another visit. There was nothing we didn't like.

Service was great and everyone went out of their way to make our stay special. Room was a good size and bed was a super king size. However room could do with two comfy chairs rather than one.

The food exceeded our expectations at every meal as did the service and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely be going back for another stay. There was nothing to dislike. It was quiet, excellent in every way. Good staff, food and facilities.

In this case, however, the place was so good, I couldn't keep quiet.... The staff were all excellent - friendly, polite and accommodating. The room wasn't massive but was very comfortable and well equipped. The bar was great - small and traditional. The beer was excellent and well kept and the food was outstanding. I cannot recommend the Stapylton highly enough and will definitely be returning. One tip - the restaurant is soooooo popular that I would recommend booking in advance.... The fact that we had to leave.
