Guest Reviews
- Christiaan (8/5): Nette accommodatie in de buurt van alle activiteiten rondom de vulkaan Arenal. - Nette accommodatie in de buurt van alle activiteiten rondom de vulkaan Arenal. Zwembad heeft erg warm water...
- Dalia (8/5): We had a great 3 nights here - fantastic location and comfortable accommodation. - Lovely place with very friendly service. The cabin was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Showers are cold but seems to be the norm in La Fortuna and the breakfast was mediocre.
- Lauren (8/5): Beautiful property close to town - Beautiful landscaping makes you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle even though you are still quite close to town. We saw a sloth and hummingbirds on the property which was a highlight! The staff were wonderful and helped us book tours at a discounted rate. It was nice to have a resturant on property when we didn’t want to vention far for food. The pool was unfortunately closed due to renovations. I wish we would have been informed ahead of time, but it was raining for much of our trip so we probably wouldn’t have used this anyways. The construction started around 7 am and was very loud outside of our room (we were the closest room to the pool).

- Emily (6/5): Lovely setting, poor value for money - On the positive side, the staff were genuinely friendly, the grounds were beautifully maintained, and the private cabana was a nice touch. The location was convenient with a car. Unfortunately, the drawbacks outweighed the good. The room, though spacious and clean, felt outdated and lacked comfort. Rainy weather highlighted the absence of an indoor seating area—only two hard wooden chairs on the covered patio, which were uncomfortable and uninviting. Amenities felt stingy: we arrived to less than half a toilet roll, housekeeping never provided a second, we had to ask for more, and bath products seemed leftover from a previous hotel. Breakfast was the most disappointing—tiny portions and poor quality.
Overall, while the staff and grounds were pleasant, the outdated facilities, lack of comfort, skimpy amenities, and subpar breakfast made the stay underwhelming—especially at nearly $900 for four nights.

- Carole (5/5): - Randy & everyone we met were wonderful! The rooms not so much. No chairs for friends to sit, not enough hooks for towels/other items, outside chairs uncomfortable, no heated pool. There were animals in our ceilings & sometimes walls who moved around all night. We loved the area and all the excursions Randy set up for us. Very friendly & accommodating staff!!!
- ana (9/5): Pura Vida! - La habitación amplia y la cama muy cómoda. Las instalaciones en plena naturaleza. Todo bien
- tine (7/5): Greit sted - Rommene og personalet i resepsjonen Beliggenheten og bassengområdet
- Vaculik (9/5): -
- Mott (10/5): -
- Jaya Krishna (10/5): Excellent . Worth every dime - It is in center Nothing
- Elyas Mohammadzadekosari (10/5): - Everything about the hotel was amazing. The hotel staff, receptionist and owners. It was in a great place, with great views of the volcano. Very clean, and spacious rooms. Nothing, everything was great.
- LUIS (9/5): - Ubicación, habitaciones, servicio, comida... Las almohadas, muy suaves para mi gusto..
- Lorena (10/5): Great stay - This was our second destination on our itinerary in Costa Rica. I loved this place. It was spacious, clean, the grounds were so pretty with many native flora. It was a short walk to many restaurants and a short drive to the Arenal volcano.
- Neil Colin Michael (10/5): - Enjoyed, staff friendly and helpful
- Mihaela (9/5): -
- barasc (8/5): -
- FE-SP (9/5): -
- Jane (9/5): - A beautiful big room with a terrace on the front where we could watch humming birds. Nothing
- Daska (8/5): - The room televisions were terrible. Makes a loud crackling noise
- Efrat (8/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): - Excelente servicio, todos muy amables!
- Shannon (10/5): - I loved this place. The cabins are a little small but not too bad. They’re very cute and every morning g you can enjoy a pretty good breakfast that is already included with you stay. The area is nice and safe. Everything is basically within walking distance. People that worked there was super nice all the time. Kids liked the pool too.
My only little complain is that housekeeping went everyday and cleaned nicely but, the never changed the sheets in the beds. They didn’t even shake the sheets to make sure they have no little debris from kids. We would have to do it at night before we got in the bed because we can see and feel it all. They could’ve done a little better that. Other than that everything was super and yes I would definitely come back and recommend this place.
- Xia (10/5): - Beautiful lushes, nice swimming pool, clean room, private bungalow.
- Linda (7/5): Overall, a comfortable stay, but they might want to change a few things. - The staff were friendly and helpful, very professional. There was a leak in our roof, and water was dripping into our room. Being experienced travelers, we do know to place toilet paper in the wastebasket, nevertheless, the toilet stopped working twice. Breakfast was okay, but not great.
- Fernando (10/5): - Quiet, friendly people. Nice little canbin-looking rooms. Comfortable. I really enjoy my stay.
- James (10/5): - I love how the bungalows were so in tune and balanced with nature. Right next to a restaurant, we had a free breakfast that was amazing. Amazing place if you don't mind the rain, which is everywhere in the rainy season. Because its warm, it feels nice. There was only 10 bungalows, so pretty small hotel, but high qiality and really nice staff. If I was to complain is that we had cold water in our shower the last day, but every other day was really good and the ac worked well as long as you dont blast it 24/7. Mostly old technology at most hotels in Costa Rica. So I doubt its too much different unless you're at the high end hotels which I don't really think its worth paying for. Anyways, its in the middle of the town and really good restaurants, markets, laundry service and near all the tour activities. Highly recommend.
- Jerzy (9/5): The stay was very nice i will come back - I recently stayed at this hotel and had a great experience. I stayed in one of the cottages, and it was very cozy and comfortable. The place was clean, well-kept, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The Water in the shower was cold or hot . The WiFi was terrible and we couldn’t use it
- Jesse (10/5): - The grounds were beautiful, and the office staff was very friendly and responsive. The breakfast options (included with the stay) were tasty.
The Internet was out for 3 days of our 5 day stay, but that was due to the storms in the area - not the fault of the property or staff. It was just frustrating. The parking area was very congested because the guests were pretty dumb about leaving their vehicles all over in random spots and don't know how to park. This is also because of the of layout of the lot and no designation of spaces. The beds were a little firm for one of our party.
- Tama (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay at Atenal History Inn. The location is very convenient. The place had so much to offer like the serene greenery, birds, and we even got to see a sloth on the tree. The view of the volcano from the tree was phenomenal. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast every morning. We liked the privacy of our cabana. Its a very family and children friendly place to stay.
- Luis (10/5): - Staff was very welcoming and always friendly and attentive. Made us feel very comfortable and welcomed.
- rmirandola (10/5): Great Little Inn! - Cabaña; We recently stayed here for 3 nights. It is a small property with 10 cabanas. We stayed in cabana 9. The cabana was very clean and has great working air conditioning. The room itself is pretty big. It would’ve been nice to have a chair or couch because there is plenty of space for it. The high ceilings are nice, but overall the room was a little dark and could’ve used another light. The bathroom has a separate area with just a sink and closet that can be closed off for privacy. There is a cute front porch with a couple of chairs.
Property: The property is well landscaped. You can see the volcano on a clear day. The hotel offered a free breakfast at the restaurant near the pool. You could get either typical American or costa ricen breakfast. As far as amenities, there aren’t many except for the small pool. We only went there one afternoon and it was basically empty. We spent a majority of every day sightseeing so we didn’t need much. The reception area is on the road with the cabanas towards the back of the property. It was nice to be off the main road where it’s quieter.
Location: We found the location to be great. It was close to hot springs, waterfalls, and restaurants. It was a short drive to the little town with shopping and more restaurants.
- Dawn (10/5): Perfect place to stay ! - Absolutely loved our stay here. The cabanas are so lovely, very private with so much nature all around. The room was big . The staff were all so nice too. Nothing !
- Yevgeniya (10/5): A gem hidden in lush greenery! - This hotel is situated in the heart of La Fortuna, yet it feels remarkably secluded due to the lush greenery surrounding the property. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and provided us with numerous recommendations for things to do and places to visit during our stay in La Fortuna. The restaurant attached to the hotel had great food. It is a great value for the price!
- Matthew (8/5): - The staff was absolutely amazing. From the personnel in the office to the restaurant onsite.
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Walter (8/5): Pretty much what we were looking for nice rooms and location. - Near town, nice upper scale cabin rooms. All was fine, no complaints
- Hoserfla (9/5): Superb - Overall good quality for the value and great location central to most everything the Arenal Valley has to offer. Thoughts of room decor could have been a little bit more modernized. I felt like I was still stuck in the 80s but essentially clean towels Linens and immaculate spaces.
- JodiTravel2Explore (10/5): A great stay in Arenal - Our experience staying at Arenal History Inn was really good. We had everything we needed in our room. And the included breakfast was good. Ahead of our stay, they assisted us with booking a horseback riding trip to the volcano and the entire process was seamless.
- Amy (10/5): - Cute bungalows that are set back from the road and quiet. They are close to plenty of restaurants, and a few minute drive from downtown la fortuna. Restaurant on site! Loved it!
- Christopher (8/5): - Good location, clean adequate room.
- Eline (10/5): Amazing stay at the History Inn - The cabins are perfect. High ceilings, clean bathrooms, ample space for our baby bed. The patio in front of the cabin is great to hang out when your baby sleeps. Breakfast was amazing.
- Matteo (10/5): - We stay 4 nights at the hotel. Rooms are very confy and clean. Hotel is strategically positioned close to restaurants, hot Springs, town and hikings. Staff is very kind and attentive. Breakfast very enjoyable!
- Drewiske (8/5): Very good -
- Pamela (7/5): Good stay but needs work on the parking lot. - Close to town. Large room. Large shower. Parking lot was awful. Shower alternates freezing and scalding. Nothing in between. Not updated for charging. Need to unplug a lamp in order to plug in your devices.
- carolyn (10/5): - Everyone was helpful & friendly. Rooms were large and beds & pillow great.
- Amanda (10/5): - Beautiful property with private cabin and lovely pool. The restaurant offers a delicious breakfast included with your stay at the Inn
- Shekhar (10/5): - Perfect and clean and nice people
- Devonne (10/5): 10/10 amazing! - An absolutely incredible stay! The lodge offered a perfect blend of jungle serenity and easy access to La Fortuna town, just a short 20-minute walk away. The wildlife around the property was stunning, with sightings of birds, sloths, and various other animals. The lodge itself was immaculately clean, and the staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The included breakfast was delicious, and we even enjoyed a refreshing cocktail upon arrival. Our room was cleaned daily, with the beds being extremely comfortable. The view of the volcano from both the rooms and the pool area was breathtaking, and the pool was well-maintained every day. This was by far the best place I’ve ever stayed, and I can’t recommend it enough. Truly a beautiful, unforgettable experience!
- Jill (10/5): - Loved that we had our own little cabin, they cleaned when we needed them to, had a beautiful pool and folage and birds everywhere. Breakfast was good and staff were great,
- Garry (10/5): - Surprising little retreat off the main Fortuna artery. Lovely unit. Amazing staff and a fabulous restaurant. We had a really delicious dinner! Gracias❤️
- Henrik (9/5): Superb -
- Henrik (8/5): Very good -
- Deb (8/5): - As described. Basic. Great breakfast. Really noisy when it rains.
- Arun (10/5): - Gem of a property hiding behind ruta 702 at Lafortuna. Room was big enough. Only problem we faced was with the shower. They don't know how to regulate hot and cold water. It is either hot or cold. Nothing in the middle. Tall roof gives the feel of roominess. Roof is wood and has a rich feel.
- Katie (8/5): Very good - Good location, really friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious with a good amount of choice. There was a bit of a strange smell from the drains, but other than that, everything was great
- Mohamed (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here for 3 nights. The hotel is in an excellent location close to restaurants and very easy to get to the volcano hike using Uber or a car. The room was very clean and spacious with everything you would need. The hotel garden is really nice and you can see various wildlife. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of restaurants near the hotel so dinner was never an issue. Great alternative to staying in La Fortuna. We would stay here again. Thank you!
- teresadT1664MO (8/5): Very comfortable, great location! - Great stay! It's a small inn made up of 10 cabanas. Even though it's on the main road it's nestled toward the back so it's peaceful and quiet. It's centrally located, within walking distance to the main area of La Fortuna, minutes away from the hot springs and lots of other attractions. It sits at the foot of Arenal Volcano so you get spectacular views n a clear day. The staff is friendly and helpful, the cabanas are air-conditioned and very comfortable. I would say the pillows were flat but that's not a terrible thing. I also couldn't figure out the whole TV thing, but I think that's me. All in all, I would highly recommend and plan to stay again if I'm in the area!
- Lucy (10/5): The accommodation was spacious and comfy and the restaurant had great cocktails. - Spacious and clean rooms. A 25 minute walk to the main part of La Fortuna however Ubers were about £2 and there were plenty around.
- Roberto (10/5): - Very kind People
- Richard (10/5): - Quiet, clean, budget friendly and wonderful staff
- adventureswithkidsuk (10/5): A wonderful start to our Costa Rica adventure! - We absolutely loved staying at this accommodation. 10 individual private chalets set in beautiful lush tropical gardens. Our chalets were spotlessly clean and the staff kept them that way. Powerful ac if you wanted it, a safe for your valuables & a fridge for your drinks. There was a gorgeous pool area again spotlessly kept - and you were able to buy drinks from piura restaurant. Which brings me onto piura restaurant - super bonus to have such an amazing restaurant to have breakfast in. Lots of choice for evening meals too and a little supermarket opposite - with a much bigger one slightly up the road. No need to venture into downtown La fortuna if you were tired after a full day sightseeing. All the staff were awesome - genuinely friendly. We booked all our tours and transfers through jacamar tours who they recommend - another fantastic recommendation - the jacamar staff definitely made our tours super special!!!
Thank you arenal history inn - a wonderful start to our Costa Rica adventure!
- 971kylek (10/5): Boutique gem near La Fortuna. - Stayed here three nights with my family of four recently. Wonderful experience. Grounds are lush, beautiful and well carried for. Also a great place to spot wildlife. We saw a sloth, green iguana, toucan, parakeets, and many other birds from the property. Amazing! The cabana was very comfortable, well cared for, and quiet. The floor can get slippery when wet, so be careful with that. The cabanas are away from the road, so any road noise is way less pronounced. This place is boutique, which adds to the experience. Not large or crawling with other visitors. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic and the staff friendly. We enjoyed the pool a couple days. Had it to our selves. Great view of Volcano Arenal from the elevated covered lounge area. We enjoyed being just outside La Fortuna, yet within walking distance and close to good restaurants and a market. Overall a great place to stay.
- Vanessa (10/5): Little bit of La fortuna paradise - Everything - beautiful lodge setting of 10 rooms just outside La fortuna with excellent facilities - the rooms, pool & restaurant were fantastic Nothing
- 961rosemarya (10/5): Loved Loved Loved - We stayed at the Arenal History Inn for a few days and loved that it was close to all of our outings (Ecotermales, ziplining, waterfalls). The free breakfast each morning was a huge plus especially being able to hear Hazel, the server sing (We loved Hazel). Our room was comfortable for the 4 of us and very clean. Would definitely recommend and will stay there again if we go back to La Fortuna!!
- Manuel (8/5): Excelente opción en La Fortuna - Excelente estadía en La Fortuna
- sandra (8/5): - Hard to check in lf arriving late
- Curious68581353845 (10/5): Quiet place close to everything - The rooms were nice and the pool was great. The people were friendly and very helpful. Free breakfast was also great. You can walk to restaurants, grocery store and shops, but it still feels away from everything when you are back in the cabins. Short drive to everything. Very cool to eat breakfast or hang by the pool with a volcano as your backdrop. Awesome stay. Thank you.
- Joshua (10/5): - Great place
- Gregory Robert (10/5): - We spent 4 fabulous nights at the Arenal History Inn. Our flight was delayed 3 hours which in turned delayed our arrival. They stayed in contact with us and someone was there at 730pm to get us checked in. The Bungalow/ casita was very quiet and peaceful. We stayed in Bungalow 10. Furthest from the street. We could not hear road at all. The breakfast each morning was delicious. The pool was cleaned each morning. You can tell they take cleanliness very important around the entire property. We have only 2 suggestions for the property owner. 1. Maybe provide either a QR Code or small info sheet with general info about the hotel (pool rules, code for the smart tv, breakfast protocol, and a reminder about the Toilet paper rules in Costa Rica). 2. Maybe have either a mat or shoe tray for sandy shoes to help reduce sand inside the casitas.
But overall 10 out of 10. Great location. La Fortuna is only a few minutes away. But Zete Trece has plenty of food options in town.
- Miranda (10/5): Private affordable clean cabins - Lovely little spacious inn and grounds just a few minutes drive from town and another few minutes drive in the other direction to Baldi hot springs. The rooms are roomy with high ceilings, quiet AC unit, and surrounded by lush greenery. For some reason I thought we would be able to view the volcano from the front porch but that is not the case. The pool was refreshing, breakfasts offered by the Peruvian restaurant were good with friendly service. We ate at the Peruvian place one night for dinner and it was delicious. There are a few other good food options that are walkable including the friendly pizza place across the street. Can’t go wrong with the History Inn, it was a great deal!
- Janice (10/5): - Great location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Right next to volcano. Beautiful rooms with great outdoor area. Pool spectacular. Breakfast yummy. Near all
- sameen (10/5): - Away from the Noise and yet in close proximity to various dining options
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great location! Beautiful hotel and grounds. Tropical paradise
- Angela (10/5): Piece of Paradise in La Fortuna - This is a hidden gem in La Fortuna! The grounds are beautiful, the restaurant is fantastic, and the rooms are updated and very comfortable. I just can’t say enough good things about this hotel. Even the pool was welcoming and refreshing. The free breakfasts were incredible and we also received a nice little touch in the room for my daughter’s birthday. I would stay here again in a heartbeat - you won’t be disappointed.
- Jayda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracy (10/5): - Staff was very kind and helpful, the grounds are beautiful and it is a very safe place for a family
- Senthil (8/5): - Nice property. But the hotel name was not there in front of the property. It took sometime to find the place.
- Adrienne (10/5): - The cabana style room provided a great atmosphere for the property and the surrounding plants and trees make you feel like you're on the doorstep of the rain forest. Pool and on-site restaurant are nice. Plus many local restaurants within walking distance.
- Assaf (8/5): Perfect spot for La Fortuna trips - We had a wonderful time At the Arenal history Inn. the staff was attentive and courteous. They help us with everything and if we needed to they had all the advice we needed for travel. The location is perfectly located around some souvenir shops, restaurants, and grocery stores and short drive from the Arenal volcano and other tours in the area. The only issue is that we could not handle the shower it was either scorching hot or freezing cold no matter what we did and how much we asked that couldn’t have been fixed. It’s definitely not a reason not to go back, but it is something to know if you need a good shower after a long day of hiking.
- Andrew (10/5): - Good location and nice rooms. Lots of flowers and birds.
- Monica (10/5): - What a beautiful property, and great team members!
The bungalows are perfectly set back from the road to minimize the street noise.
We didn’t require service during our three nights, but did swap out towels on the second day.
The pool was clean, and had a beautiful view of the volcano and neighboring mountains.
Hazel the breakfast host was lovely, and was always singing :)
We brought a reuseable water bottle and the staff happily filled it with ice and water each morning before we left for the day.
- Mark (10/5): - This property is fantastic.
The rooms are individual chalets with a private covered porch. The grounds are beautiful with a view of Arenal Volcano right from the room. Our room was fully updated and in beautiful condition.
The staff at both the hotel and restaurant were accommodating and so friendly.
Seriously, if you are visiting the La Fortuna area, you need to stay here. You will not be disappointed.
- Tammy (6/5): - A bit disappointed but it ended up working out fine. Nothing special. Smaller property, busier area, and closer to the road, than we expected compared to the photos. The cabin was very pretty inside with vaulted ceiling. The terrace was fine. The shower was the worst! No water pressure or hot water. It was hot outside so we managed. Beautifully maintained garden and view of the volcano. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool. The restaurant staff and front desk attendant were all very friendly and helpful. Nice to have breakfast included. The dinners were on the pricier side, so we opted to eat at better rated places nearby. The room met my most important needs which was a clean, comfortable room with queen beds and air conditioning that was located outside of town.
- Shlomo (10/5): - Great place
- Dtappel (10/5): Great stay in La Fortuna! - We had an excellent stay at Arenal History Inn. We appreciated the individual cabins, which were clean and spacious. Having a tropical garden right outside your front door is fantastic. Our children enjoyed playing in the pool, and the onsite restaurant is wonderful. The staff at the hotel are also very friendly and willing to help. I would highly recommend staying here.
- Michael (10/5): - Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay. The hotel rooms were conveniently located near restaurants and shopping (souvenirs, grocery store, laundry mat) but far enough from the street and noise to feel secluded and intimate. It’s also on the closer side of town to the volcano and thermal pools, which is great for those activities but means it’s about a 20 minute walk into the main part of town. The grounds were beautiful and we woke up every morning to lovely bird songs. The room was really nice, modern, and clean. The included breakfast was yummy (plate of fruit, coffee and tea, and then you order from a menu that offers 6 options of American and Costa Rican food). The receptionist was very nice too. And surprisingly our room was ready a couple of hours early. The pool was clean and well maintained but nothing extravagant. The only downsides were the receptionist is only available from 8am-6pm and the water temperature in the shower was difficult to control (but it was a nice shower with good pressure). We definitely will stay here again when we come back.
- andersonphil92 (8/5): Beautiful, quiet and reception staff are great - This is a lovely little place with wonderful staff in reception who just want to help!
Fabulous chalets - well back from a noisy road - beautifully designed.
If you’re a light sleeper who likes a dark room - beware of the small light on the air conditioning unit as it’s like a full

Nice little pool and beautiful gardens
Not a 5 star review as the restaurant lets it down a bit in the evening. Very enthusiastic staff but, took for ever to get our drinks and food was just “OK”.
On the other hand, breakfast lady was wonderful. Always singing, big smiles and efficiently serving loads of people on her own 👍😎
- Lucie (10/5): - Right in the middle of everything, yet the rooms are in secluded setting making you feel very private.

Nice gardens
We had diner at the restaurant which was good and breakfast were excellent. Very friendly staff
I recommend this place
- Liliana (10/5): - The hotel was better than expected. The grounds are beautiful, the pool with day beds made it so much more inviting, and the rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. We could walk to nearby restaurants and make a quick drive into town. The daily breakfast was a also a great way to start our day. They offered coffee, juice, fruit, American and local breakfast options. Overall it exceeded our expectations. We stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed our nights after our busy days.
- jessicalC993HD (10/5): Great for families - This was a great place for our family to stay while exploring the La Fortuna area. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and very spacious. This is a small establishment (just 10 rooms) so it was nice and quiet when we stayed. Rooms are away from the main road which helps a lot. Pool was really nice too. Appreciated the mini fridge in the room. Lots of restaurants and a mini market within walking distance. Breakfast was wonderful - fruit plate + a choice of several different menu items. Highly recommended!
- Brian (10/5): - A very place with friendly staff and quiet.
- Aryanne (10/5): - If you want to visit La Fortuna, this is the spot!! Staff is great and helping! The villas are awesome (clean, private and fully equipped) and the pool is breath taking! I strongly recommend this amazing property for your trip!
