- Gregory (5/5): Not impressed for a Higher end Boutique Hotel. I have stayed at many around the world and this does not even come close - The building was beautiful, Hotel staff were excellent Room was underwhelming, my towels were fluffy but the inspection tags were still on, hence new towels, not laundered before putting in the room, attached Restaurant less than mediocre. Limited menu and underwhelming. The Bar, although “the place to be” Staff rude and service bad. Had to leave, still did not receive drinks. Overall I would not stay here again.

- Shelley (9/5): A relaxing few days, with quiet surroundings, delicious meals, and excellent service! - The location was convenient for us for getting around by taxi . Hotel staff very obliging and helpful in arranging transportation. We loved the aesthetics of the building’s contrasting architecture….the original mansion, as compared to the new tower. Appreciated being able to tour the original house and admire the stunning craftsmanship of former generations. There were no negatives, and the next time we visit, the construction will likely be completed, so we can view the remainder of the front of the hotel.
- 389DanielM389 (6/5): We really wanted to like this place but ended up being pretty disappointed. - My wife and I booked a deluxe king room for a romantic getaway to Montreal. We had visited the bar on a previous visit and loved it so we were really looking forward to our stay. Check in was very smooth but the disappointment started as soon as we opened the door to our room. The lighting, blinds, and HVAC are controlled by a ridiculously complicated system, it took about half an hour to try to figure out how to dim the very bright, fluorescent colour temperature lighting as the blinds went up and down over, and over, and over…. The room was large but almost comically under furnished with a large unfurnished space that would’ve been great had we wanted to host an in-room dance party, but otherwise made the room feel barren. The walls were also rather plain (even though they were wallpapered throughout) and gave the room the feel of a Holiday Inn or similar chain hotel. The bathroom was nice, the shower was great and there was a very nice, large soaker tub. Minor quibbles related to water that pooled in the shower (tiles not properly sloped), and a loose shower control. For some reason the bathroom door is a large glass affair on a noisy slider that woke up my partner each time it was closed. Another disappointment was the view, we were on a higher floor but when the blind lifted the exterior wall only has a vignette of small windows. I guess this was done for exterior aesthetics, but in our opinion the in-room guest experience should govern. The common areas are nice but lacking in charm or character in the new part of the hotel (although the corridors were very nice and the gym is great). It should also be noted that the front facade of the old building is under construction so you have to enter through a small side door, none of this was disclosed by the hotel. Overall this is not a 5 star hotel and, although we really wanted to like this place, we can’t recommend it.

- shmoopy (6/5): Meh - For us, this was a very average experience. The lobby is pretty no-frills, and the front desk wasn’t particularly friendly. Maybe because we don’t speak French. The hallways on the guest floors are absolutely lovely though, with a beautiful mix of modern and antiques.. The bar is breathtakingly lovely. Our room was quite large, but had a very odd layout with lots of wasted space and few amenities. The bathroom felt disproportionately small, with a flat trough sink that led to water splashing everywhere whenever you used it. There a toilet bidet which we really appreciated but since the bathroom was so small the electric eye sensor went off with your every move, and the toilet lid constantly was opening. The shower area is a wet room with a bathtub and a shower, and funky color changing lights. The front of the hotel is closed due to construction, and it was so very difficult to figure out where the parking deck was. That was frustrating. The parking deck itself was very dusty as the equipment for the renovation is stored in there and our car got very dirty. Not sure that we would stay there again.

Excellent, helpful, and knowledgeable staff and a great bar and restaurant. Very reasonably priced considering the location and what the hotel has to offer. If you're going to a Montreal Canadiens game, this is definitely the place to stay. Only a 10-minute walk to Centre Bell.

- joeld369 (8/5): Problems, But They Were Dealt With the Right Way - Hotels often have troubles; it just cannot be helped when humans are involved. What separates and quality hotel from an average is how it is dealt with. Le Mount Stephen did it right. We checked in about 5:00 and went directly to dinner. We had been driving all day and were anxious to just get to bed. My wife often has trouble sleeping and, when that happens, she uses the TV to help put her to sleep. Unfortunately the one in our room did not work. We called to the front desk and someone came right away. They spent about fifteen minutes trying to figure out the problem without any success. He said he was going to talk to reception about this. We got a call from the manager (I'm afraid I forgot his name) who said they recently found out that all the televisions on our floor were not working. To make a longer story not much longer the manager moved us to a junior suite (about three times the size of our original room), offered a free breakfast and gave us a deduction on the price of the original room. This is how a hotel should deal with problems!

- brianwS7650DS (10/5): Good Value for the Higher End - My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Le Mount Stephen for a quick weekend in Montreal. We stayed in a king room, which was spacious as we needed and very modern. The bed was comfortable, and lots of room for luggage and amenities. The main entrance was under construction when we were here, so we had to enter through the restaurant entrance of Bar George, which was a little awkward, and exit through the garage. Not the fault of the hotel, but it was a bit strange. The hotel is in a very convenient location, near a metro stop and also close by dozens of restaurants, all within a few blocks' walking distance or closer. The only criticism I have is that the bathroom in the hotel is so ultra-modern with its knobs and controls for everything from the shower to the toilet, is that it took us nearly 30 minutes to figure out how to use simple features. I tend to like modern amenities, but this was a little much. That's a minor quibble, though. Everyone at the hotel was friendly, the staff brought our bags to our room when it was ready, and we enjoyed our stay.

- Karine (8/5): Veille du Jour de l'an au Bar George - Le hit au Mount Stephen est bien entendu le Bar George pour ses cocktails en soirée et l'excellente nourriture tout au long de la journée. C'est la raison pour laquelle nous avons séjourné là pour la veille du jour de l'an. J'ai trouvé que le confort du matelas n'était pas ce à quoi je me serais attendu étant donné la réputation de l'établissement. Il manquait aussi un mini-frigidaire.

- dancarsonbk (6/5): Outdated and Needing Repairs - We stayed in the Luxury Loft room. The pictures looked great online but the slanted, windowed roof was covered in a sheet of ice and snow, so you couldn't really enjoy the view. It made the whole room dark because it was the main source of natural light. So I wouldn't stay in these rooms in the winter. The room also had a vast array of temperature and light control panels, none of which worked. A bunch of them had broken buttons. It was impossible to get just one or two lights to turn on and the room was really cold the entire time we were there. The fake fireplace also didn't work. It was supposed to emit heat, which we really could have used, but it wasn't working. It also made a strange squeaking sound whenever it was turned on, so we couldn't even use it for ambiance without dealing with that annoyance. Overall, I'd say this hotel is in need of a major renovation. It charges far too much money for what is a clearly outdated and under-repaired experience. The building looks super cool from the outside, though.

I was pleased to see a hotel lobby that is both comfortable and rather expansive (for a hotel this size). My room was very comfortable and welcoming, clean and inviting. The hallway was satisfyingly quiet. Elevator that directly connected the garage to all hotel floors is a nice feature. I think Mount Stephen is comparable to the Ritz, Sofitel, Queen Elizabeth. I thought a pretty decent value. I'll return.

The bathroom was amazing. The tub and shower were glass enclosed. Soaker tub could fit 2. Rainfall shower was amazing. Lots of hot water and complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was even bath salts for the tub!! What i didn't like is that there was no real accessible entrances. The front doors had many stairs, parking garage was down a steep ramp.

- johnpD1786MJ (10/5): Montreal Weekend getaway! - Le Mont Stephen is a fantastic spot for a downtown Montreal visit. If you have any interest in Canadian History (Confederation era) you will marvel at the history found on site. George Stephen was a power broker in Montreal/Lower Canada and this historic site would have seen all of the major political and business players meet and discuss the key issues of Confederation and the Trans Canadian Railway. The hotel itself is first rate in every way possible. Modern and well outfitted (Spa:Gym/etc) the hotel is also wonderfully situated in a very walkable area (Drummond/ Rue Sainte Catherine/etc). I only wish we had another couple of days!

We had the junior suite which was superb. It was walkable to sites we wanted to see and used Uber for farther distances. Bar George is an outstanding restaurant. The ambience, food, and staff were incredible. We will definitely fo back there.

- F6685CLkarend (10/5): Memorable! - I came to Montreal for the first time with my 16 year old daughter and stayed at Le Mount Stephen. The hotel was truly special. Great service, great hospitality and great experience overall! The front desk helped us and took care of our reservation in a swift and friendly manner. The room was really nice as well. A bit high tech for me, but nonetheless, it was truly a great experience. Room service provided turn down service each night and provided each of us a bottle of water and a small chocolate each evening which I thought was a special touch. The bathrobes were very luxurious, and the shampoo/conditioner did not fail. I would absolutely come back and stay at this hotel. The location was perfect. It was a brisk 35 minute walk to Old Montreal which allowed for some sightseeing. The weather was brutally cold, but with good warm hat and gloves, very manageable. Great hotel, great experience, would very much recommend it to everyone!!

Positives: Our room was large and modern and quiet, front desk staff is exceptional, bar and hotel is gorgeous. The bathroom was one of the most wonderful bathrooms we have ever experienced with an enormous shower room which included a huge bathtub, colored lights, and a rain experience shower head. While we appreciated all the modernity of our room, including sound-proofing, the lighting is like being in a classroom with florescent lights and even my husband who is in tech had problems with the many switches. And there are almost no vegan options on the menu so in a 5 day stay we were not able to eat in the bar or restaurant. But I would still definitely come back when in Montreal.

- Sunshine04959551260 (10/5): We 100% hope to return! - We chose Le Mount Stephen because it was walking distance to Centre Bell. This hotel makes great use of a wildly ornate old mansion as its lobby and restaurant. Then the (notably quick and smooth) elevators whisk you up to your super clean, blessedly quiet room. There is a ton of fun tech to play with that is also highly functional and a very comfortable bed with both firm and soft pillows. However, what sets this hotel apart is the genuinely friendly, patient and caring service. Every single staff member we interacted with was kind and helpful. Special shout out to concierge William, who patiently and enthusiastically helped us get to know his city off the more beaten paths. We also appreciated the gym, and the beautifully done fresh flowers throughout the public spaces.

The main old house part of the hotel is truly fantastic with it old carved wood decor and panels. The main staircase with its stained glass windows is a pleasure for the eyes. The bars and restaurants are lovely with a great range of high class food and very good service. All the staff were so kind and helpful. Our room was just great. The lights, blind and drapes are all electronically controlled. Sometimes though getting the light level is a bit tricky. The rain shower head is huge and has LED ambient lighting. The toilet is a smart toilet that will wash and dry your bum if you want. The bed was very comfortable but the Queen bed is a bit small for our liking. I recommend the King bed instead. The only few small downsides are as follows: 1. Paper tea cups? No, for a 5 star hotel these should be proper China cups or mugs. 2. No proper stainless steel teaspoons, just a crappy wooden stick. 3. No English breakfast tea. They provide Earl Grey tea but this tastes very floral and is an acquired taste. Please provide normal everyday English breakfast tea.

Is it it is an old large mansion, but the hotel has added onto the back of it and it’s very modern and sleek and beautiful rooms. Very comfortable. Staff is amazingly accommodating. The concierge is wonderful housekeeping, so kind and thoughtful. Everyone we encountered at that Hotel has by far in one of the best ones I’ve ever stayed.Highly recommend this it was ideally located in the downtown area, but it was close to old town. it was close to a lot of wonderful hiking. We walked to McGill University has a lot of shopping. Highly recommend. There was nothing I didn’t love about the property. It was completely on point in every way. The food also is divine in the restaurant. The only thing I will say is my husband went down to the bar just to get a drink while I was getting ready for the night and they wouldn’t allow him just to sit anywhere Although there were a lot of open seats they put in in between two couples so he was wedged in and it was so uncomfortable so he left that’s the only complaint I have

- Leeluu28 (10/5): Delightful hotel in excellent location - Le Mount Stephen with the attached Bar George is an outstanding mixture of historic charm and modern amenities. The Deluxe King room is spacious and clean with a large, walk-in rain shower. However, this type of room might be best suited to be shared with people you know intimately as the semi-transparent bathroom sliding door with significant gaps does not allow for too much privacy. The only minor criticism would be that towels and robes are scratchy and not representative of the quality of the hotel. Room service and staff were courteous, friendly and quick to respond to any requests. The location is centrally located and in walking distance to many shops and restaurants Very enjoyable stay!

- CandaceD106 (4/5): Not recommended for wheelchair users… or lovers of historic hotels - ADA queen room had a double (not queen) bed, almost impossible to maneuver wheelchair between wall and bed. (BTW all queen rooms are actually doubles. You need to book a king to accommodate a couple of any size.) The only accessible access is through the garage; without a car that means navigating a steep ramp. The bar is gorgeous and historic; the rest of the hotel has been gutted and redone in the height of contemporary gaudy. Some staff nice; others ok.
- G3409QCbarryt (10/5): Wonderful Hotel, amazing that a building that old has such modern upgrades. - The hotel has an old, historic charm but features many impressive modern upgrades that make for a comfortable stay. The rooms and common areas were very clean and well-maintained. Although the ongoing construction outside made access a bit tricky, once inside, everything was excellent. The staff provided wonderful service and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
