Guest Reviews
- Melody (7/5): Even though the views are amazing, we would never stay there again. - The views of Porto from Duoro Riverside Apartments are phenomonal. Checkin problems - the parking card wasn't in the box. Could not reach the hosts via phone. The dirty laundry bags (waiting for pickup) were piled in the stairway, making it even more difficult to walk up the stairs. The stairs are dangerous (varying depths). Repairs are needed in the 3rd floor apartment (the entry door sticks making it difficult to push it open).
- Szabolcs (7/5): Ajánlom! - Remek elhelyezkedés, kilátás a folyóra, óvárosra, az acélhídra (harmadik emelet).
Gyalog szinte minden elérhető.
A szállás jól átszellőztethető.
- Christopher (9/5): Unkompliziert und tolle Lage , alles geklappt , - Aussicht
- maricruz (8/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): - Great location and stunning view from the kitchen window. Excellent pre-arrival instructions on accessing the apartments and parking. Nice little restaurant right out the front door as well as numerous options around the corner. We enjoyed our 3-night stay! Stairs for upper units are steep, so would be difficult for anyone with mobility challenges. A couple of coffee pods would have been nice to go along with the tea and condiments.
- NADEY (10/5): One of the best experience I had - The location, ease of access, clean and comfert, and view from the room All was great

- Dena (8/5): Few days in Porto - The location was perfect & view from the kitchen was exceptional 👌 The stairs were very steep. We were on the first floor so it wasn't too bad.
- Philip (8/5): Good Spot if you don't want to be in the Center of Porto - The location was convenient to restaurants and Port wine tasting. Also, the view across the river of Porto was very nice. Free parking was provided We couldn't really enjoy the view from the apartment because it was only seen from the kitchen sitting on uncomfortable stools at a small table. Also, the parking space provided was pretty far away from the property.Climbing the stairs was challenging with luggage.
- John (6/5): Great location - Great location for the Port houses. Very steep stairs.
Window in kitchen didn’t open.
Floors, not very clean.
- Tomáš (5/5): Poor comfort and fantastic view - Extraordinary view of old Porto but… …the furnishing is very poorly maintained. Mold in shower, the sink is not draining, doors won’t close or open, kitchen furnishing very poor, no spices and oil available, no wine opener, chairs are shaky, the cheapest liquid soap in shower etc. As many other guests mentioned, staircase is very steep and narrow, moreover there were three big bags left on stairs during all our stage, thus crossing with our luggage was like mountain climbing (after we successfully passed a strange test with three different access codes for the (i) entrance door, (ii) parking card locker and (iii) door key locker). When I requested the invoice the host stopped replying and it took 5 days and remainders through booking.com to get it. To summarize, it looks like the owner just collects money but maintenance and investment to the property is zero. You pay just for the view although the price is like 4-stars hotel.
- Norbert (7/5): - Gute Lage.
- Stephen (8/5): Exceptional location, magnificent views! - Location in Vila Nova de Gaia is exceptional, and the apartment has several windows with nice views! The owners are very kind. The layout can be a bit tricky to navigate at times, especially when using the kitchen for cooking, and the steps to reach the second floor apartment were extremely steep.
- Giovanni (9/5): -
- XAVIER (10/5): - Logement idéal
- XAVIER (10/5): - Logement idéal pour découvrir Porto
- Peter (8/5): Great location - Fantastic view
Very central Steep stairs and narrow doors
- SUNGHWAN (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - My stay was great. The last night was a bit bothersome as the 3rd floor new comers made noise at 2am and woke me up. The stairs are a bit inconvenient as they are high & narrow stairs and also a bunch of bags at the bottom which made it hard to get luggage up and down the stairs.
- Trudy (8/5): Very good - Fabulous location and view
- Gina (10/5): Best apartment yet! Gorgeous view. Didn’t want to leave! - Sensational location. Very comfortable and enjoyed being able to cook a little and have a refrigerator. Bedroom lovely on back, quieter street. Steep stairs. Narrow door into building. Concern about emergency exit being on 3rd floor. Maybe should install a drop
Ladder on back windows. Just a thought.
- Dayoung (8/5): - The apartment offers a beautiful view of the river and has plenty of space. However, the staircase is very unsafe, especially when carrying luggage.
- Heidi (10/5): Fantastic location and mesmerising views, this apartment is true to its advertised facilities and photos, and gave us an - Incredible location and view, in a very handy position easy to walk over the bridge or catch a taxi to Porto Old town. The kitchen was well stocked and comfortable bed and living area. Kitchen and Bathroom with great views! Narrow doorway entry from the street and Very steep, narrow stairs up to the apartment, could be an issue for some travellers with their luggage.
- Johann (9/5): Great - Everything except the access staircase Staircase is very steep and short stairs. Not suitable for elderly persons. No elevator.
- Julia (9/5): Superb - Can't fault the position - it's got to be one of the best views in Porto and also perfectly situated for everything.
Very comfortable and well equipped.
Cycle shop downstairs ( called Cyclo ) is owned by brother of the apartments. ( Philippe ) We got a great discount on E bike hire and cycled 2 days running to the stunning beaches east and west of the city. Fantastic cycle tracks on the south side.
I would have given it a solid 10 if the bathroom wasn't so tired and in need of a deep clean. The general cleaning in the whole apartment could be alot better ( especially the floors ) but this is very easily fixed.
Maybe a coat of paint would be go
od too especially on the ceiling in the kitchen.
Overall - highly recommend 👌 Wonderful 4 nights / 5 days Just the standard of cleaning - as mentioned above.
- Arjola (8/5): - The location was great, it’s right at the center of Riberia for a fraction of the price. A plus for having available parking to drop off the car and walk everywhere! It’s perfect for the location. The room needs a little update, perhaps the carpet needs to go, otherwise it was great !
- David (9/5): Great place amazing view, helpful host and great parking place! - Great place, beautiful view, very good kitchen, very helpful host! And you are in the middle of all the event!!!! Very very good place. If you have a car, the host provide you great parking place! Steep stairs, but if you are in a reasonable shape its not a problem.
- Özlem (10/5): Exceptional - It was good as usual as our previous stay.
- Todd (8/5): - Great location. Short walk to Luis I bridge and boardwalk restaurants. Our 2nd floor apartment had great views of the river. Noise level from the street below was significant pretty much the entire night. The road is the only access point for the Luis I bridge, so there are many buses and cars going by at all hours. If you're a light sleeper, ear plugs are a must. Apartment was spacious enough for the two of us. Stairs are steep and treads are narrow. I would not recommend for guests with heavy luggage. We also had a problem with the parking pass. The instructions stated the pass would be in the lock box. It was not. We immediately contacted Jorge by phone and text and got no response. This was on Friday night at around 7 PM. We followed the instructions and parked rhe car in the nearby lot (we had reserved parking with Jorge prior to our arrival) and explained to the attendant the next morning (Saturday) when we departed that we had reserved parking but did not have a pass. Fortunately, they let us go without having to pay. On Saturday morning we got what looked like an automated message from Jorge wishing us a pleasant stay and saying that he would not be 'bothering us with more messages.' He clearly had not seen our urgent message the night before. After we had left, he finally messaged us, saying that the previous guest must have taken the pass and not returned it. Not sure I buy that, though. The cleaning crew should have checked for the pass.
- Christopher (10/5): Best location and view. Friendly staff. - Great location and very helpful staff. Good amenities and staff cleaned every 3-4 days. Upstair rooms sound like elephants walking
- Clark (9/5): Absolutely worth every penny! - This property was outstanding for its price. We were honestly surprised with everything we received from the property and the owners for the price. The view was beautiful and everything was quite comfy. The kitchen was amazing and the owners supplied every utensil you could think of to cook with. The view over the water was beautiful from there and everything was very clean. The location was wonderful as well. There is plenty of cafes and restaurants right next to the property and lots of little souvenir shops. We will absolutely be returning again! The only thing that we had issues with were the codes. This was not entirely the property's fault as we hadn't received an email with the correct codes at the time we had arrived. We were helped by the owner and he instructed us on how to get inside. I was sent the wrong code by Booking and so we had to call to receive help to get into the room itself.
Likewise, I would not recommend this property to someone who has any issues with climbing stairs or a disability that involves needing a wheelchair. The stairs to get to the rooms were very steep and at a slight angle.
Other than those two things, this was a wonderful property and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see Porto and its amazing views and architecture.
- Jaehyuk (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (10/5): High recommended! - An unbeatable location right next to the Luis I bridge - so literally as central to Porto and Gaia as it is possible to be. The check-in was easy (once you figure out that you supposed to open the lock-box by the unit door not the apartment front door!!) and parking just up the street worked great (cars are useless in central Porto - take the bike tour that starts from next door, it was awesome!) Only caution for less mobile folk is that the stairs up are steep, but this is common to most places.
- Seungyoo (10/5): - Everything was great except too wordy instructions to enter into the apartment. If you have a car to park and unload luggage it is very hard because you just have to park on the road without any shoulders, hardly impossible to think to park there for a minute. If you use public transportation, this is a great place to stay. Good location, great view, very clean.
Bathroom shower door need to be fixed. Every time you shower, water is all over the floor.
- Klajdi (9/5): Superb - The view was pretty good. Going up the narrow stairs and unloading the car was a bit hard.
- Vincent (9/5): Wonderful views from eating area/kitchen in a great location next to the river and parking included! - Amazing views across the river to Porto. The location was super convenient for sights in Porto and convenient to groceries and dining in Gaia. Having parking included about 5 minutes away was a nice perk. The stairs up to the second floor are very steep and would be difficult for someone with marginal mobility limitations. It was not a problem for us.
- Sarah (7/5): Perfect Porto, stunning city and outlook from the apartment. - We loved the view from the kitchen, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was small but perfectly formed with great water pressure in the shower!
Porto is a stunning city and the location was fantastic, just on the Douro and a short walk over the bridge to Porto itself. The stairs up to the property on the 1st floor were very steep and not ideal when carrying bags or cases up or down, despite there being a handrail.
It was a very noisy road with traffic up and down all night and you could hear the trains going over the bridge too.
My 6"2 husband had to duck when leaving the bedroom for the kitchen/bathroom due to the small space between the rooms.
- Maggie (9/5): Superb -
- Denis (8/5): Very good -
- Gail (9/5): Superb - The stairs
- Barrie (9/5): Superb -
- Huib (10/5): Top stay at the heart of Porto - Riverside apartments are the perfect place to stay and to explore Porto and Gaia. I cannot think of a better location. You do not need a car. You can easily explore Porto by walking from the apartment. The attractive Gaia riverside is at your doorstep and the Ribeira riverside is just across the bridge. The apartment is located next to the bridge. In the night all is very quiet. I would definitely go back. Last but not least, the owners are perfect hosts and are in touch to make sure all is well.
- Steve (8/5): - Highly recommended
- Robin-dianne (10/5): Sensational view. Brilliant location - The view is the best in Portugal !!!
- Briana (10/5): Stunning views and convenient location - This was a beautiful apartment with stunning views of the Douro River. The apartment is conveniently located close to the metro. It is also adjacent to many restaurants and bars by the riverside.
Self check-in was easy. We were sent the entry codes ahead of time. The apartment had all the amenities we needed for a 3-night stay. It was very clean and comfortable. Working AC, strong WiFi. There was a small kitchenette that we didn’t really use (other than the coffee machine). Bathroom was in great working order, maybe a little compact. I would definitely stay here again. There’s a narrow stairwell to get to the apartments, but that’s nothing compared to the rest of Porto. Many steps and steep areas in the surrounding areas that you’ll run into
- Sergio M (10/5): - Love the view from our room, so close along the river. Stairs are a challenge, but worth it. Thank you Felipe
- Giselle (10/5): Perfect place to stay to explore beautiful Porto. - The studio was perfect was perfect for us, it had everything we needed. The view is incredible, overlooking Porto old town. Sitting at the table with the window open having breakfast or an afternoon/evening drink was the highlight. You coujd see and hear the life below. Even the view from the bathroom was beautiful.
Everything clean and the bed comfortable.
- Beverley (8/5): Amazing views - The location is amazing and wouldn't pick another. Amazing views from the room over the River. Very comfy. We enjoyed the Calem port tasting. Very informative. The cafe over the road Portobello made us the Portuguese sandwich which was amazing but felt disappointed that we couldn't finish it. There has obviously been a leak from the bathroom at some point. The floor has dropped and visible around the skirting board. Some flooring needed attention but didn't change the stay in any way. Just needs a little TLC.
- Marjan (8/5): - I enjoyed my time here. Although there are pros and cons…
Pros first: great location, fantastic post card view from the kitchen and bath area, spacious space, good communication with the host.
Cons: no elevators with steep stairs. Carpet is truly nasty looking. I hope they would invest in better flooring. It would make a big difference in this space.
- Yohsuke (10/5): Exceptional - Location and the views from the river were amazing.
- Les (9/5): very nice property - view and location motercycle noise on street was loud into the night
- Marescia (8/5): Very good - Clean. Gob-smacking view of Porto. Bedroom on road. Kitchen and bathroom face the river. Loved the first floor location and free parking for the two days we walked around Porto. Fab to have the bike shop as the in-person bag drop and info point. Email comms very responsive. Friday was fine. Saturday had little sleep from traffic.
Carpet (by bed) needed to be re vacuumed. Hubby sneezed 🤧 from dust?
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Brilliant view of Porto from access the river. Great location in the shadow of the bridge. Everything pretty accessible by foot
- Jordanna (10/5): - Great view and in the heart of porto. Within walking distance to the old town and major sites. Great for a family of 4.
- Beverley (9/5): Comfortable stay in a great location. - Great Location. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Staircase up to the apartment.
- Emanuel (6/5): - We enjoyed the view and location was great! Jorge was quick to respond with any questions. Older building stairs leading to apart are very narrow, high and dirty. Hard to take luggage up. Once in apartment was ok.
- ADRIANA (10/5): - Parking is a nightmare make sure you park with them, if not you will never find parking near
- Pier (10/5): Amazing view, incredible location - Overall, great stay. Top notch communication from the start. The apartment was cozy and comfortable and amazingly located. 5 mins walk to anything and everything. The view was incredible out of the kitchen window. We loved it.
- Jared (8/5): - Great location. Host messed up with the parking, so I needed to pay when it should have been free.
- Ben (9/5): Superb -
- Pt (8/5): Lovely apartment w an amazing view of Porto - The view of Porto is spectacular, sunset can’t be beat - the bed and bedding is comfortable - nice to have a fridge and kettle. The room is nicely decorated. Great location, very close to the river and the bridge over to Porto The entrance door is very narrow and heavy- had difficulty holding it open to get luggage in. The stairs up to the 2nd floor, as mentioned in other reviews, are very uneven and steep, making it very difficult to carry up luggage. The shower is quite small w crumbling walls, also no window blinds in the bathroom. The building itself is currently under construction w banging beginning at 8a. Didn’t affect our trip, but just pointing it out for future guests
- Stuart (10/5): - The third floor apartment has quite possibly the most amazing view from any property I've stayed at in 20 years of international travel.
The apartment is in an amazing location, just minutes from the Av. de Diogo Leite on the south bank of the Douro River and all of its restaurants and Port bars.
The apartment has everything one would need including small kitchen.
The apartment is small, suitable to only two people at most. As mentioned in other reviews, the stairs to the top are steep and narrow, something to keep in mind if mobility and/or heavy luggage are an issue
- Nikita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elena (10/5): Pleasantly surprised:) - Location!!! This retrofitted apartment is very thought through… comfortable, well stocked, bed and bedding are great. Nothing to mention:)
- Rowena (10/5): - Even though there are no elevators in this building, going up the stairs to the 3rd floor was well worth it. I call it the stairway to heaven. The view is well worth the climb. Apartment was very clean, had ample hot water, and tons of supplies to make our stay comfortable. This venue is a hidden gem. We would definitely stay here again.
- Therese (8/5): We enjoyed it. Liked the location and the car parking provided. Well done. - Great view. Close to many places to eat, drink and find out about Porto. The entrance is very small and the steps are difficult to drag suitcases up.
- David (9/5): Great 5 nights at Douro Riverside apartments fabulous location and the views of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia were stunnin - Compact, clean well furnished and close to sll the sights and public transport Nothing
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roman (4/5): - This property was very well positioned in a great location with walking distance to upper and lower Porto. It had an amazing view of the Duoro River and came with its own parking spot.
The building was very old and the entrance was very difficult to enter. We had to climb up three flights of very narrow and dangerous stairs and there was an unpleasant odor in the hallway going up to the apartment. Once you enter the apartment it was fairly clean however you noticed how small it was as the bed barely fit into the room.
The bathroom definitely required some maintenance as there appeared to be some black mold in the shower or “black silicone” which was mentioned by the owner when we reached out to them regarding our concerns after our stay.
The entire unit did smell like sewage, which may be from the underlining pipes in the bathroom however, we are not sure where the smell came from.
When we reached out to the owners regarding our concerns after our stay, we were basically informed that these standards are not up to “American” standards because of how tight it was and that we should have known this would be the case due to the history regarding Porto and the building status.
- Andrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (6/5): Amazing views-old apt with dangerous uneven stairs - The building is in poor repair andstairs are dirty and smelly. The stairs to the apartments are extremely unsafe- all different heights and widths. The floor in the living area of the apartment is sloped dramatically. Tried numerous times to contact the management and no response at all to emails or phone calls. View, cleanliness and shower are only redeeming factors.
- Lauren (10/5): Fantastic Location - Very central location with an amazing view from the kitchen. We spent a lot of time on an evening have a glass of wine just watching the world go by. There were building works going on next door which starts at around 9/10am in the morning. It didn't bother us too much but may make the port headache a bit worse.
- Tiago (9/5): Superb -
- Desmond (10/5): Exceptional - The location was ideal for us. Communication was clear and the booking process was easy..Parking was important and although it was a little tricky to offload luggage and get to the parking station, everything worked out well.
- Piotr (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location and view!
Very supportive staff. Stiff and narrow stair case. Might be chellenging for sone people especially with big suitcase.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Yes

- Christian (9/5): Serene December stay - Great location. Quiet at night. Lovely views. Comfortable bed. Email relay via Booking.com didn't work but we got it sorted out.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - The room is comfortable and has everything. Our kitchen had a beautiful view of the Douro. The location is strategic for reaching both the wine cellar area and the center of Porto. It is located in front of the famous Louis I bridge which I recommend walking (both above and below). A very convenient bus passes under the house to reach strategic points in the centre.
- Edmond (6/5): great location great view but poor maintenance - great location, great view, responsive communication poor maintenance.
room door malfunctioned (it's an electric lock but it could't lock so i realized that the door was kept unlocked for a whole day until i came back to the room at night.) the owner fixed it quickly the next day afternoon but still it was scaring.
bathroom in poor condition, shower rack broken, shower door can't close, towel rack broken... definitely not the picture shown in booking.com.
other minor points: lack of hooks or racks in the room to hang things; no towel on kitchen stove top; no tissue paper in the room; wifi is weak.
