Guest Reviews
- MARIA (10/5): - The property is located in the heart of the colonial zone. Close to everything you may want. The hotel decoration is actually colonial style. The only thing was the bedroom is very small for 2 people, but very cozy.
- Neil (10/5): - Wonderful location in the middle of the Colonial zone
- isabel (10/5): - Good excellent
- Eric (6/5): - Ideal location in zona colonial, but any room on the street is terrible, really noisy with music and people speaking loud most of the night. Any isolation on the window would be highly recommended
- José (8/5): - Everything was ok.
- Darcy (10/5): - The service at this place was above and beyond. I can't believe how lucky I was to stumble upon the place in my online search. Great value and beautiful boutique hotel
- guibby (10/5): - Great location, walkable to any point of interest
- 203darcyh (10/5): Stay here!!! - This place will not disappoint! Beautifully furnished in the heart of the Zona Colonial. The staff were all so helpful. The coffee was amazing! I cannot believe how lucky I was to stumble on this place when I was searching for lodging. The Elena room is superb!
- Charles (8/5): - Overall good hotel boutique . Well situated, clean comfy bed, friendly attentive staff
- Ela (8/5): - The common areas are very pretty. The place is clean and beautifully decorated. Our room was smaller than expected, but it is ok if you are not planning to spend much time in it. The spacious bathroom with bathtub and hot water certainly made up for the lack of space in the bedroom. Breakfast was nice and fresh and staff is very kind.
- Michael (2/5): - Never staying here again
No warm or hot water deapite running it for over 10 minures and trying all settings.
Very small room
No backup generator, and they experiened a blackout.
Posted sign says breakfast area opens at 8am,at 806am, the breakfast area was closed and lights off. Breakfast area is co-located in the kitchen. Guests have to put up with the smoke and staff cooking 8-10 feet away from you.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Muy bonito, accesible y cómodo cerca de muchas atracciones 🌟
- rhett (4/5): - WIFI doesn't work for computers. No hot water. No coffee available until 8 am.
Staff not very friendly.
- sab_arredondo (8/5): When they say small, they mean small - We flew in late and we’re only staying for one night so we booked a small room, which has to be the smallest room in which I have ever stayed… 🤣 It had a twin bed and space for you to go around it, and that was it!! The bathroom was much bigger compared to the bedroom.
It’s located in a good area and we were able to walk around to get dinner. I don’t imagine being there for a longer stay but it worked for what we needed
- Brian (10/5): Todo Bien en SANTO DOMINGO - Very clean, and staff was phenomenal. Super friendly, and very accommodating. Professional and first class, top notch.
- Bruce (10/5): - It’s centuries old and terrific.
- cigarpasionado (6/5): Not for everyone! - I arrived after midnight…the front desk clerk welcomed me without shoes on 🤷🏻♂️ The hotel has no elevator. The room I got was super small, the queen bed billed the entire room leaving no space to even walk in the room…the bathroom was bigger than the room…this hotel is not for me.
- Nathan (10/5): Great option in the historic center - Nice small hotel. In the colonial center, it is very Spanish Caribbean in feel. I got in late and it is not easy to find, but the host was helpful and quick. Easy to walk to many things from here.
- Thierry (4/5): I was expecting much better - The room, the bed, the a/c, clean and comfortable.
Our room was on the street side. Extremely noisy! All night long !
The real problem was water in the shower (cold&hot) regulation!
Impossible to manage it ! I called the technician but still !
You better enjoy cold shower.
- Maria (6/5): - The hotel is nice but very small, the larger room which I chose was near a busy street and the noise was annoying specially at night. The bed sheets had stains on them, I mentioned it to the cleaning lady but they did not change it. Also, the front door is not always locked but there is a doorman at night. The location was perfect, very close to El Conde but the actual street where the hotel is located is a bit less touristy (sketchy). Having breakfast each morning was nice.
- CARMEN (6/5): - Cozy place, beautiful decoration. However, the room was too small and breakfast was ready later than the opening time, which was inconvenient as we had an excursion. Great location and nice staff.
- James Davidson (6/5): Ws not welcome. - If your into the appearance, the hotel was decorated beautifully. That said, except for one young lady who cooked and cleaned, the rest of the staff I encountered were sullen and recalcitrant. Not once did I receive a smile or greeting and the door had to be opened for you whenever you returned to the hotel. There was hot water, but not that could be used. The pool accommodated a single person, two if you were svelte. I would not return.
- Deborah (10/5): - Love my stay
The guy at night was very attentive. The cleaning lady was very nice. Everyone was super nice and would stay here again
- Leo (10/5): - Beautiful spot
- Eduardo (8/5): - Good location, walking distances to any major point in Colonial Zone. Room as shown in pictures. Friendly Staff
- Pedro (2/5): Bad day - On my last day I had a very bad experience. I wake up sweaty because there were not electricity and I got bit by the mosquitos and no water to shower... It was a little mess. They brought me a gallon of water for me to shower. It was very uncomfortable..
- Carmelita (10/5): - The only problem I had was that the water pressure is very low, but the place is nice and clean.
- Mariana (10/5): - The house is beautiful and kept very clean. It was so nice to stay in a colonial house that has been remodeled to be fairly true to the original architecture. I didn't use the pool, but I would have if I had stayed more days — it's great to have a way to cool down at the end of the day! Breakfast was delicious and Santa was very nice and attentive. The hotel isn't in the liveliest part of the Colonial District, but it's within a minute or two of the main streets, which is a sweet spot in my opinion.
- Garry (10/5): Perfect place to tour colonial area - Excellent
- Maximo (10/5): - Very good, nice service. well maintained.
- Bryan (4/5): - I had stayed in that place a few years ago and it was beautiful, I stayed for one night now and it was terrible, there is no parking if you drive, the room dirty sheets, dirty walls, items in the room dirty and in poor condition, uncomfortable bed , quite an uncomfortable stay
- Richard (4/5): - My room didn't match the picture on the Travelocity website so I had to pay additional money for the room that I wanted. Wifi was horrible, I had to pay for office space at a nearby co-working location.
- ChiTravel2004 (4/5): Bad Wifi, Room didn't match picture - My room didn't match the picture on the Travelocity website so I had to pay additional money for the room that I wanted. Wifi was horrible, I had to pay for office space at a nearby co-working location. I had other issues too, but not going to waste more of my time on this place. The one positive was the quality of the bed, I did get a great night sleep there.
- Llency E (8/5): - Excellent location, great colonial, building. The hotels needs some furniture change, but overall I recommend staying in this hotel
- Rodaisy (6/5): - The hotel is located in a prime location, walking distance to many restaurants. I had to knock on the door and wait for someone to open to be allowed inside. The hotel employee seemed surprised to see I was staying there. Be aware, children are not allowed. I was traveling with my 10 year nephew and was told upon arrival that children are not allowed, but was given an exception for a $10 nightly fee.
I was not a huge fan of the aesthetic of the hotel. Hotel is very clean and well kept, but the lights are very dim and dark and the decor made me feel like I was in a Spanish cathedral/church.
Room was spacious and bed was large and comfortable. However, we had an issue with the bathtub. The tub was removable tub and it was disconnected from the drain underneath, causing massive water leakage when we took a shower. We were offered a dirty mop with no gloves to clean up the water mess.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful Hotel room, and my room cozy and simple. I had the room with a balcony view facing the street. Nightlife quickly dies down after 1:AM, I slept well here, and the air conditioning is excellent. If I was to return to Santo Domingo I indefinitely would return to this hotel. They also serve breakfast, smells real good, yet I’m a day sleeper. I’m satisfied.
- Brenda (10/5): - Hands down a perfect lil gem that almost makes you forget it's a hostal. I was not disappointed! Great location walking distance of grocery store, locals performing for tips, restaurants, mom & pop stores. We felt a semi pulse of the city as a local but safe as a tourist. Not much interaction w/staff other than guy that checked us in. He speaks very little english bt we were able to understand enough to follow his directions to a restaurant. The city view hostal is a great choice!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel and location! Missing fridge in the bedroom and better shower/bath accommodations. Friendly staff and comfy hotel!
- Yeni (6/5): Ok for sleep on a cool evening - No cofee - no transfer from airport as was mentioned in it and when called got a very high rate for a cab -AC didn’t work- very unprofessional.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel - Nice hotel. Beautiful. Nice location. Very rustic and nostalgic. Staff were nice and really helpful. Wifi signal was sketchy. No hot water for the bath/shower. Neighborhood could be a little loud early on in the evening.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is close to shops and attractions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very cozy boutique hotel. It was extremely clean, and the staff was very nice. I love that they take security very seriously at this hotel.
It’s in walking distance of casual and fancy dining.
- Miguel (10/5): - The hotel is very chic, unique and well taken care of. The details are incredible. Perfect place to stay for couples or if you want to experience a true colonial vibe in Santo Domingo.
- Carlos (8/5): - The hotel is well maintained, beautiful and clean. The location is great, walking distance to main attractions. I felt safe there.
- donald (4/5): - no water bottle in room, water came out of the tap, even if the staff said its filtered, bottled water is a necessity.
only cold water in shower.
- Arlene (10/5): - The place was beautiful and super private. The picuzzi was well decorated.. The room a little bit small but then again the bathroom was a dream, the personal was really kind. good price too
- L.Serrano (8/5): - We liked the location, the staff, and the old building with the beautiful floor tile
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location was perfect! A very good experience. A very beautiful place to stay!
- FrankZitka (6/5): Only without breakfast... - I really don‘t like to get personal, but the breakfast lady at Colonial 154H Hotel either doesn‘t like her job, serving people or getting up early. It’s not about components, language problems, speed or timing. I’m a rather patients guest (I hope;-)). it‘s about hospitality, general friendliness and lack of trying... Anyway, on the third day I just found myself a different breakfast location and rather payed extra (go to the main square in front of the cathedral - good breakfast, price and service!)...
This Hotel is actually a lovely little oasis in the middle of the colonial quarter with (small but) nicely decorated rooms and friendly/competent staff. So if you can get a reservation that does not include breakfast, I highly recommend Colonial 154H, if not, check other options...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was centrally located, cleaned daily, and had a sweet, sunny vibe about it. There was always helpful staff present to help answer any questions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like the antique decor, the areas were clean and there was hot water
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is amazing! A little hidden jem not to be missed. Everything about the hotel was just fabulous. Stunning property, great amenities and excellent staff. We will be returning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great Hotel. Excellent breakfast. Room excellent. Nothing wrong.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Would not return - This is a charming property, and excellently located. It is also very clean. It has so much potential! However, we had to check in late due to the room not being ready for us, which considering it was 4:30 pm, I found unacceptable. The bed was very comfortable (we were in the King room - Dona Elena), but the bed linens were torn and the safe was a joke. We could literally cary it around the room with us, so not very secure. The bathroom is large and very clean, with a huge bathtub. When my husband asked for a stopper so that he could take a bath, he ended up with a plastic bag to use as a stopper on the first night because no stopper could be located that fit properly. When we asked for additional pillows we were told that there were none, but they reluctantly gave us an additional towel. The towels were of excellent quality. The shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion provided was pretty terrible. I ended up getting some from a friend who was staying around the corner and down the street at the Boutique Hotel Palacio (they had provided her with ample toiletries). That brings me to my final point. If you are seeking a hotel experience, with a bar, 24 hour security, ADA compliant rooms, etc. then consider a hotel vs. a B&B. Boutique Hotel Palacio has a huge amount of historic charm, parking, and a great team, who were so attentive to us. My husband and I regretted not staying there, and would choose Boutique Hotel Palacio over Colonial 154 if we return to Santo Domingo.
- Jahshoeuh (10/5): Cute boutique hotel - Cute boutique hotel in an historic building in Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo. The room was fairly tiny (although the bathroom was quite large), but it was clean, had great bedding, was fairly quiet, and nicely decorated. And the price was very reasonable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice I really enjoyed and I recommended as is in downtown
- Einav (8/5): - ( ) close to Condo main street 2 min walk.
( ) security all day long there us guard in the hotel.
(-)the equipment is quite old. Although the bed is comfortable.
- Theodore (10/5): - Great location 5 minutes walk from everything you need to see and buy. Top class service breakfast was excellent. Hotel was clean has can be. I wish to thank everyone working there.
- rita (10/5): Weekend Getaway - Wonderful out of the way yet close to everything in Colonial Zone- Impeccable and well designed areas, upgraded tastefully while retaining the original structure's character- Loved the feeling of home away from home. Relaxing Jacuzzi and great breakfast and service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The balconies, terraces and common seating areas are fantastic! The freshly made breakfast each day was delightful. Our room felt secluded and private even in the small boutique setting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice hotel in a very nice location. My girlfriend was impress with te beauty of the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was in a great location, within easy walking distance to all of the main sights in the colonial area. The room was spacious and very clean - lovely character bathroom. Breakfast was a standout with a lovely lady serving in the breakfast room. Very well presented and maintained hotel. The check-in was a bit abrupt with no information provided but staff later were happy to assist with queries when asked.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Overall, it is an excellent facility. On my second stay, I was again impressed. Safe, clean, friendly and helpful staff, pleasant and quiet small hotel. Location is only two blocks to the main restaurant and shopping area in the colonial zone.
- DJFNCP (10/5): Beautiful, Super Clean, Comfortable & Relaxing Hotel with Wonderful & Extremely Trustworthy Staff!!! - My husband and I have stayed at Colonial 154 Boutique 4 times over the past 4 years and the experience had gotten better each time. We have stayed at 4 other hotels of comparable pricing and we loved this one the most. There are different size rooms... the lower priced ones are quite small... all of the others are quite spacious and comfortable... There are three sitting rooms for entertaining guest, one upstairs, one downstairs and one upstairs balcony. The hot/cold water mentioned in other reviews is a but tricky. In our rooms, you the hot water came on immediately when you turned the water knob only 1/2”... if you turn it any further all you get is cold, but it you do it correctly the hot water is fine and reliable. The only downside, which is also in upside depending on your viewpoint is that guests not listed on your reservation may not enter your room... so if you are single and meet som one new you want to spend private time with, it can be quite frustrating and disappointing... if single and looking to mingle, do not stay here. On the upside, because of the house rule, your room and your belongings are much, much, much more secure than in some other hotels. Overall, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place and the staff. The location is about as perfect as you can get, only 2 blocks from the Conde’, great cafes, restaurants and the Supermarket. The street entertainers are awesome. Look for the Michael Jackson impersonator & Jose Lugo the AMAZING VIOLINIST from Venezuela... (joselugomusic on Instagram). Jose’s friend, Hector Quintero (Hectorqmusic on Instagram) is also great! Please tip them!!! They deserve it!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved everything-very unique, super clean and attentive.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No air con, lights kept going off, no hot water, dribble of water from sink, breakfast inedible, staff didn’t speak a word of English just pushed a form in front of me to sign, all in Spanish. Wouldn’t give Expedia a refund for cancelled night!
- N9444WSkarenr (2/5): Avoid!!! - booked with expedia on 28th feb. no air con working in tiny airless room with no window. no hot water for bath and just a dribble from basin taps. lights kept going off as no electricity. man on duty didn't speak a word of English so couldn't explain. told expedia to cancel on 6th for our 2nd booking but hotel wouldn't refund a penny!!! expedia gave me a voucher. that hotel should not be marketed
- Verified traveler (2/5): - air con didnt work. no hot water. noise like a generator on and off all night. lights kept going off. water in sink was a dribble.
- Fiona (6/5): Beautiful hotel but poky little room. - I stayed in the Don Carlos room. It was so small and cell like with no window.I had to open the door in the middle of the night it got so airless and claustrophobic. The bed was far too big for the room I struggled being one person in the room with my luggage although it was meant to be a double.. It would be far better to put a smaller bed in and rent it out as a single room . It was also quite a tight turn to get in the room with luggage without falling in the pool ! There were brown stains on the wall opposite the bed too.
- Margaret (10/5): Location, location, location! - Great quiet location in Colonial district, very well appointed small hotel. Only drawback for us was smoking allowed on verandas and since we didn’t want to be around smoke, did not use them. Excellent staff! Beautiful decor and linens.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is within walking distance to local attractions. Also, property felt like an upscale bed and breakfast.
- Sharon (8/5): Colonial charm - We had a very pleasant stay here. The hotel is beautiful and has been recently reconditioned. The delicious breakfast was cooked to order. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The location is within a short walking distance of everything in the colonial district. The bedroom was small, but comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was more spacious, but the bathtub/shower combo was very high and would be very difficult for some people to use.
- JoseOviedo56 (8/5): A hidden treasure - Colonial 154 is a small and beautiful hotel located in a historic mansion at the heart of the colonial city in Santo Domingo. Standard rooms are small but tastefully decorated with a very nice bathroom. Breakfast is very good and the lady who prepares it is very professional. I think Colonial 154 offers good quality and history for a great price and a friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel in a perfect area - Great little boutique hotel! I've stayed here a few times and the only drawback of the property is the showers are not consistent. To say the least, it's either scorching hot or ice cold. If they could get that under control it'd be 5 stars all the way. But with that being said I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I love the place. Is the best in the colonial zone
- 690ivanaz (6/5): Overpriced - To expensive for what it offers. The deluxe room is so small, it has no windows and has space only for the bed. You cannot even open the suitcase, literary. We were dissappointed with our stay there. The only nice thing is a nice end elegant colonial look of the hotel enterior and the location.
- Mari (10/5): - We had a great time at casa colonial! They treated us nicely and the hotel was beautiful!
- IEL85 (6/5): Perfect location but in need of some improvement. - We stayed for two nights at this stylish little hotel located in the old city of Santo Domingo. We arrived and checked in at 2 am in the morning after a 26 hours long travel from Europe tired and jet laged. None of us speaks Spanish and the very tired receptionist didn’t speak any English so not a very warm welcome. He was tired, did not say a word and showed us to the room. I had booked the Don Juan suite with balcony and the room was really nice decorated. The bed is fantastic (very soft), and the bathroom comes with a bathtub.
My two complaints about the room is first of all the dirty floors. Black hairs and dust everywhere. I wiped the bathroom floor with tissues and it was full of black long hair. The rest of the room and bathroom is spotless clean so maybe we were just a bit unlucky the first night. Second problem is the shower. No handheld shower = water all over the floor. It is also impossible to adjust the temperature, you have to go with cold or piping hot.
Breakfast area is nice, but it’s even nicer to sit outside by the pool. Breakfast is served ala carte by a sweet lady who will cook you eggs and pancakes. Coffee is also great.
You will not see much of the staff working at the hotel. Reception area were often empty and if there was someone there they kept the door closed. When I delivered the key back on our departure no one bothered to ask if we enjoyed our stay or if we needed assistance to call for a taxi.
Taxi from the airport will cost you around 40 US. Uber also work great in DR.
- Melissa (10/5): - Great stay and service !
- Robert (10/5): Condesa trip - They warmly welcomed us and were friendly. Check in was quick and they had someone carry bags to the room. Very comfortable room. Location is great as it is heart if Condesa. A good base in Mexico City.
- Pierina (8/5): - Beautiful boutique type hotel with small, simple rooms and common areas. Its solid value and great location with an O.K. breakfast. I recommend it for solo and light travelers on a budget as rooms and common areas are very small.
- Jimena (10/5): - Love the room and the staff was fantastic! The hotel was super clean and in a great area!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cozy old house adapted as a hotel. - Located in the colonial zone of Santo Domingo; nearby to historical sites.
- irinav721 (10/5): Stylish colonial hotel in the center of Santo Domingo - We were staying at this place only 1 night but I was amazed by interior of the hotel and hospitality of its staff. The hotel is difficult to find because lots of tiny roads have only one way direction, so at the beginning we were rolling around trying to find right one and to be able to park our car. Lady that met us at the entrance was a super friendly together with some guy who took our bags and brought them to the room. Check in was fast, passports copies, credit card, boom done ... and we are in the room!!!! The room - OH MY GOD!!! A HEAVEN! That was exactly what we expected! Big king size bed, amazing balcony with view and the most important it was a bathroom!!!! The bathroom was very big, instead of shower cabin there were an a bath tube, Big sink, giant mirror, all shower amenities what you need, crispy fresh towels! That what exactly you want after long road trip!
Breakfast was included and it was not a buffet - it was a great service given by lady who were cooking in the kitchen only for 2 more couples and us. Feels like more personalised and private service. Breakfast was freshly made, some eggs, toasts, juice, coffee or tea and something else. Moreover if you want you can cook your own meal using a kitchen like it’s your own: oven, microwave, fridge, wine cellar and etc.
I would definitely recommend this place to all of you, and if I ever come back to Santo Domingo - that’s gonna be my choice to stay in:)
- Shawn (10/5): - Friendly staff. Small hotel but delivers big on service. Included cooked to order breakfast is excellent. The antique look with a mixture of modern amenities is nice. The jacuzzi style pool was nice. I rate as a 4 Star experience. The cons are the small rooms. The pool is very nice but if they treated the water daily it would be nice.
- leonard (6/5): Good for 1 night - Hotel is in good location. Room was very tiny and with weak AC. Staff friendly. Good tourist location. Comfortable bed, but small room and bath.
- Mohamed (10/5): Mohamed of Houston - Very friendly staff. Very clean room with a very very comfortable bed. Clean and fresh linens.
Very convenient location.
- En (10/5): Great hotel - Only downside was the breakfast, a small glass of orange juice (boxed), a small bite of "tortilla espanola" , two buffet bread, and 1/2 slice of pineapple
The portion were really small and there was no other option for breakfast, besides the lady in the kitchen has a really bad attitude.

- mariagrazias_12 (8/5): beatiful hotel, but don't choose a standard room - very nice boutique hotel, well positioned in colonial area. Pleasant common area and terrace. Our room (queen bed) was very very small (less than 3x3meters, difficult to open the luggages!); it was good for us because we just overnight here for 1 night but if you stay more than 1 night in S.Domingo ask for a bigger one. The bathroom was very large. Breakfast served in a nice breakfastroom: no buffet, limited choise. High cleaning level. Good price.
- Varifr (6/5): Beautiful hotel but needs some improvement - We spent our last night in this hotel. The location is perfect and the hotel is really nice, nice room and a confortable big bed. I had the feelings that the hotel was recently open and that they are still adjusting to the guests service. I am not giving 5 stars for several reason: the shower was very uncomfortable there is no glass-door or a curtain and we flooded the bathroom. Additionally it was impossible to find the perfect temperature or too hot or too cold. Second issue:there was no possibility to reduce the brightness in the room in the morning as you can see from the photos there are 2 small windows without any curtains. Third advice is to improve the breakfast variety as everything was good but the variety was very short: melon, scramble eggs, ham and pancakes with syrup. Coffee and orange juice to drink. More different fruits , some tea and some bread with butter and marmalade will be a good improvement. Service was really nice and attentive. This place has a lot of potential and it only needs some small changes to become a 5 stars place.
