Guest Reviews
- Berry (8/5): Amazing view, restful and quiet. - Quiet location with an amazing view of Mt Sturgeon near Dunkeld. Superb for star gazing - here I saw the Milky Way!
I loved the unique conversion of a tobacco kiln and it was very cosy. The kitchen was well stocked and I also loved the friendly welcome by the farm sheep dogs. The attached bathroom and toilet is difficult for someone my age. I don't like going outside at night for the bathroom and it was very cold.

- Amanda (10/5): - Very comfortable and private
- Michelle (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful and rustic - Beautiful, peaceful and rustic accommodation, perfect for quiet downtime. Karen has thought of everything you might need during your stay and the complimentary doughnuts were a lovely touch. Nothing - it was perfect for me. Guests should realise this is a rural property so a few bugs are unavoidable and the sleeping loft is accessed by a narrow staircase.

- Deborah (10/5): A perfect spot to stay at the foot of the Grampians, lovely hosts, everything we needed. Thank you!!!! - Gorgeous restored building in a lovely open setting, clean and cosy.
- David (10/5): Great 2 night stay, Karen goes out of her way to help you feel comfortable and is a great asset in helping you get the m - Accommodation is on a working sheep farm and is a window into life on a farm, great location just outside Dunkeld Na
- Ina (10/5): - We had an absolutely wonderful stay; Karen is a great host and made us feel very welcome! The location is great too, and Karen gave us a lot of great tips to make the most of our stay in the Grampians. nothing

- Kat (10/5): Great cosy farmhouse in a convenient location! - The whole place was very rustic and cosy, and the location was very convenient, just mins away from Dunkeld and Mt Sturgeon. Karen was also just lovely! She was a fantastic host, very easy going and made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. There were also the cutest and friendliest dogs on the property! The bathroom was outside (still under the porch) which was a little inconvenient at night when it was cold but overall not a big issue.

No negatives. It was exactly as described and lived up to our expectations
- Greg (8/5): Very good - Unique property and private location.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Had all facilities required and peaceful place to stay. Old building was great. Due to water saving in this area, don't except to be able to have a long shower.Low water pressure but water hot. Still adequate for needs.
- Antony (10/5): Fantastic service and great lodgings - Great place and the owners had gone to a lot of trouble to ensure you had everything at your fingertips!! Nil
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - It was nice and quite at the Kiln , you were secluded ,if that was required ,with a pleasant view . We were there for the Highland Gathering , therefore we did not participate in things we believe you were able to on the farm ..Next time .The Kiln was well provisioned with supplies as well as things to buy ,which meant you did not have to leave .
- Willow (9/5): A perfect - and historic - retreat in the shadow of Gariwerd - Gorgeous property - and such an interesting history. Karen took us through the whole story and was such a generous host to us. Even gave us a ride to and from Dunkeld for dinner on our last night! The kiln building has such a sweet quaint charm, a reason to travel there in itself. Everything was lovely - rainwater fed shower was really cute, just something to expect. More lamps in the living area would add even more to the ambience but no critiques from us!
- Michelle (10/5): Comfortable welcoming quiet and relaxing even had kookaburras sing in the mornings - Comfortable welcoming quiet relaxing 😊
- Melissa (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): A unique and interesting stay in a converted tobacco kiln. Enjoyed the sounds of the country life. - Loved the star gazing mat. A great experience that you dont get in the Melbourne CBD.
Host was very helpful and the Kiln was a unique structure.
Fridge was well stocked with food, if required.
Wifi connection was very good.
Would definitely stay there again when next in the Dunkeld area. Not a lot to not like.
The TV in the downstairs loung was dificult to get working properly. A manual would have been a great help.
However, we never turned the TV on. Too much to do with bushwalking, sketching and barbeques for dinner.
- Svetlana (10/5): A historic house full of character - It is a very old fashion place to stay on a sheep farm, but it is not too old fashioned to have separate hot and cold water taps :) I enjoyed the way the house is styled, it shows good taste. Bathroom is all new though and very comfortable. Plenty of really hot water in the shower. The house has everything for a great getaway, and bbqs and nice breakfasts with a mountain view. And it is very quiet, apart from birds. Also the house has a good wifi. Hosts are so awesome people. And I liked to see sheep in the field next to the house. It was a very nice and relaxing stay.
- Karen (9/5): Two nights near Grampians - Lovely accommodation with very welcoming and helpful host All good
- Chaplin (9/5): Beautiful cosy historical building - We loved our stay and the historic building NA
- Anthony (7/5): Good - Character of the old building. Outdoor bathroom.
Steep dark stairs difficult to navigate without waking partner with full light. Sensor light on stairs would solve the problem.
Too many signs everywhere. Teabags were old and insufficient for stay.
- Bruce (8/5): Excellent -
- Neil (8/5): A most enjoyable stay, already talking about going back. - A lovely rustic studio in a beautify location. Our host was wonderful and the tour of the farm was a real bonus. I would highly recommend. For some the bathroom being outside on the verandah might be a bit of an issue particularly on the cold nights but for us it was fine
- Grantley (8/5): Very good - The unique atmosphere The outside bathroom.
- Gauri (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was absolutely incredible. We cannot thank Karen enough for welcoming us onto her wonderful property!
- Inhaam (9/5): Superb - A quiet cozy space overall and the star gazing blanket.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Norma (9/5): Quirky place to spend some time - Excellent host who was a mine of information and quickly solved a smoke alarm problem.
A lovely quiet spot
- Adrienne (9/5): Excellent, would definitely stay here again. - The owner Karen was magnificent, she was very welcoming and informative and even offered to drive us into Dunkeld so we could have dinner at the Royal Mail Hotel. The accommodation is on a lovely farm with spectacular views of Mt Sturgeon in the Grampians.
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (9/5): Superb -
- Ammie (10/5): great place to stay. comfortable and nice views - unique historical building.
quite and private. short drive to town for restaurants.
- Isabel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ingrid (6/5): Ok experience just for sleeping - It's location to grampians. Limited water since its only rain water.
The fridge is barely useful, alot of things for sale inside, can't even fit our stuff in the freezer.
Old toiletries which should be thrown out. Quirky but not my style.
- Fathima (10/5): lovely stay tucked away next to a sheep farm - cozy stay, the host had a great breakfast and many things to chose from. very well planned and was in in great location, had all the amenities, quiet and peaceful. The bathroom and toilet is outside of the premises even though it was attached to the property. you will have to exit from the main doors to go in to the toilet. we found it a minor inconvenience to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. BUT it was only a very minor inconvenience.
we also thought having a mirror indoors would have been nice.

- Catherine (9/5): Relaxing stay in a beautiful area of Victoria. - Very scenic and peaceful area. The kiln was cosy with everything you needed for a comfortable stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This a unique property, very cosy and peaceful. It was exactly as advertised and very charming with a well presented modern attached bathroom. Karen was a really helpful host and the location for us was great especially as Karen gave us so much advice and assistance to plan our day in the Grampians. Sadly due to the cloud cover we did not get to see the night sky but on a clear night anyone keen on stargazing will have a great view. We would highly recommend the Tobacco Kiln for those who like something a little bit different.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful setting, peaceful and quiet, yet only a few minutes to Dunkeld.
Very comfortable accommodation.
