- JULIAN (8/5): - We have stayed at the hotel -prepandemia- in several ocassions. This time we got hold of the only room option available in the newer building above the main hotel, problem was too many stairs, which make it dependable on shuttle runs to reach dining options within the hotel.... walking up the hill to our room is risky for anyone not in good shape/health....also there are no hand rails, hence posing addionatl risk of falling. I did like the excellent service from all the staff, always ready to help and assist ieven on nonhotel matters. The newer part, once solved the issue mentioned above should provide a good choice for staying in the future, is quite, nice pool and jaccuzzi and good spacious rooms.
- RAYMOND (8/5): - First time visitor. Our room had a beautiful view. It was a very relaxing location. Everyone was beyond professional and accommodating. We did have an issue with our room AC unit which leaking water from a clogged drain line... they were prompt to address and gave us a remedy. We were there for an overnight stay otherwise I may have asked for another room. The weather was cooler and refreshing so the AC at that moment was not a big deal. Thank you to all the staff at Casa Palopo.

The front desk staff, housekeeping staff, the sous chef, the wait staff, the turndown service staff, the staff that takes you to the hen farm, the views from their 2nd restaurant, beautifully decorated Kinnik - all possible because of their outstanding staff. The complimentary meditation kit, the french press, the kayak- all adds to the pleasantness of the stay. The beautifully decorated room A must visit if you are in Lake Atitlan. I will go back again!. The hotel restaurant is excellent. I was a bit disappointed with the steakhouse Kinik, down by the shore, so I recommend you stick with the main restaurant. I also took the private motor boat to the pueblos; although pricy, it was worth the convenience. The concierge gave me good and accurate recommendations I highly recommend this place

- Meredith (10/5): - For our 1st anniversary we wanted to visit the beautiful Lake Atitlan in Guatemala & this hotel made this adventure feel over the top luxurious. While the hotel & views are hard to beat, the hotel team that worked every day to give us moments of delight throughout our stay, were the true unique component of this stay. From an easel/paint/canvas waiting for us in our room to paint the beautiful views, to the turn down service with a unique gift each time, but more than that was the friendly and helpful nature of all of the staff was incredible. They arranged a private boat driver for us to go to San Juan & San Marcos. It was definitely worth the elevated price to not be on a tight schedule & get to explore as much as we wanted & leave as soon as we wanted to make the most of our day. Skip going to San Marcos but DEFINITELY visit San Juan!! We also walked from Hotel Casa Palopo to the town of Santa Caterina which allowed us to explore the everyday lifestyle of the community. We also recommend going up to the infinity pool at Hotel Casa Palopo for the days you just want to relax & for sunsets! We did the traditional route of ground van transportation lined up by Hotel Casa Palopo, but when we learned about the hotel having two helipads, we found GuataFlights and HIGHLY recommend them for a much faster transportation to Antigua (10 min) or the GUA airport (25 min). Make sure to eat and lakeside restaurant, Kinnik. The BEST! Can't tell - I recommend you stay here. We will be back.
- Flora (10/5): - it is high up but close to a small town and transport is easy available - it has a magnificent absolutely stunning view - it is so special - waking up with the view of a huge vulcano i. the window, a big veranda with great views , a swimmingpool and hottie with great views, beautiful rooms and bathrooms . huge common areas -a restaurant and very friendly staff - it sextremely beautiful- we had one of the suites - the stunning view came with a small downside of 150 steps but we managed to never have to go up by always using the tiktuk when coming back from syrups and always eat in the room - teh entire menü is available in room - food in small town was much cheaper - prices at hotel are very high but they try to have fancy food - town restaurants were a very amazing alternative though - and

We had NO issues with communication or hot water in our rooms. So I'm really surprised by the other reviews left. The restaurant in the hotel was lovely and they were happy to accommodate to my food allergies with no problems!!! We found the location we'll worth the views of the lake and Volcanos. And easy walk to Satana Catarina, a beautiful local village. Easy Tuk tuk transport to get to Panajachel for more restaurants, shopping and transport by boat to other towns across the lake. I highly recommend this boutique hotel!!

Refreshing pools surrounded by curated cactus gardens, backed by the mountainous jungle and overlooking the teal Lake Atitlan. Kayaks and paddle boards are provided to make the most of the lake. The restaurant serves incredible cocktails and cuisine. The team is friendly, fun and very attentive. Little touches make the stay pure magic- a selection of wellness drinks to start your day and a unique gift in the room each nigh.

I did not like that the security asked my name several times and it seems like i was not welcome in the hotel. However after i checking the staff It is very dificult to get in to my room. The rooms are not accesible for people with health concern. I love the view but i would never visit the hotel again it is crazy the amount of stairs. I was feeling. Really bad because i was not able to brith do to efort because iI am asthmatic

- Marlen (2/5): - Avoid Casa Palopo: Guatemala is/was going through a political unrest situation with protesters blocking the roads. The US embassy advised anyone to stay clear or the road blocks/areas which also pertained to the roads to Late Atitlan. We found out the day we got to Antigua about the unrest and that the roads to Lake Atitlan are closed. Having booked for the day after we got to Antigua, we contacted the hotel and after several hours they said that we won’t get there unless we take a helicopter which was out of the question (financially and safety wise). We talked to several people in Antigua and most of them were going to visit Lake Atitlan as well. ALL of them got refunded due to the circumstances, however Casa Palopo did not. They charged us the hotel room for 2 nights with no explanation. (We did book through Expedia and they contacted the hotel every day for 8 days and the hotel refused to give us the refund, although Expedia mentioned several times that considering the circumstances it should be not issue to cancel the reservation and get the refund). Obviously money is way more important for them than the safety of their guest. I highly suggest to stay clear of this hotel as unknown circumstances may arise and the hotel WILL NOT work with you not matter what. We spent several hours on the phone with Expedia and emailing Casa Palopo and at the end they decided not to refund our stay!!

- Jason (2/5): - We booked the Casa Palopó as part of a friend's 50th birthday celebration about 4-6 months prior to the arrival date. Unfortunately for us, the Guatemalan elections caused civil unrest and because of this, we ended up having to cancel last minute (about a week's notice). The hotel was incredibly difficult to get a hold of, and when we finally were able to get someone via a web-based chat, they assured us that we'd be able to get a refund for our cancellation. Mind you, this was all before our stay was scheduled. However, after the dates of our stay passed, they came back to us and refused to give us the refund of over $1,000. We will be pursuing a chargeback with our credit card company, and we will most certainly never be booking with this hotel (or any of their associate properties) ever again.
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional attention to customer service - We were not able to make it to this hotel due to protests in Guatemela with road closures preventing travel. We can however attest to the fact that the hotel staff checked on us during our travel and kept in touch to make sure we did not get stuck in a road blockade. This level of attention to customer safely shows the level of service provided at this hotel. I would like to give a shout out to Lopez who was very kind and worked with a sister property on Antigua to resolve our dilemma

- James (4/5): - My wife and I were highly looking forward to staying at Casa Polopo. We have stayed at Relais and Chateaux properties around the world and have grown to expect a certain level of luxury and service. Actually our main reason to visit Guatemala was the lake and property and views it provides. Keep in mind the price for 3 nights with taxes was $1600 USD The property did inform us several days after booking (and also after booking the flight) that there is some construction going on. There is not a lot of other luxury hotels in the area, so after discussing with the hotel we decided to stay there anyway. I was told that it was not in the lobby or by the rooms. Upon arrival, the actual road to the property was closed, my wife and I had to walk 10 minutes to the gate and the taxi waited 45 minutes for the road Blockage to clear in order to bring our bags. The front gate had about 20 workers and I thought we were at the wrong hotel. There were workers within 10 feet of our room using hammers and chisels all day long. There is no air conditioning at the property. It was impossible for us to stay in the room and relax due to the noise, which is a main reason to visit the property. I left feeling like I was scammed out of a luxury hotel experience. I asked them for a discount for the inconvenience. They did offer a complimentary dinner for the inconvenience which is almost laughable. The lake offers incredible views but spend your time at another property.

- Daphne (10/5): - This is truly a 5 star experience. From greeting to cleanliness, to turn down service and restaurant it’s lovely. We stayed in the santa Catarina room, right over the lobby with no one above or below us or to either side! It felt like a private apartment. Plus the private terrace is huge with 3 floor to ceiling windows on the main room and another in the large bathroom. Sun chairs and couch and a dining table on the terrace look out at the most gorgeous view. There is a lot of climbing up to the pool but it’s worth it. The restaurant is in the main building where our room was, so it made it easy to have breakfast and dinner in our hotel, and why leave?? We had drinks by the crackling fire near a bar at night, and saw lightening cracking off in the distance on the other side of the lake. If you need a quick trip, there is a heliport that will take you to and from Antigua or Guatemala City or other places. Fabulous stay!

The Chef provided yummy options including onion thyme soup, black bean soup, corn risotto, squash ravioli, main dish cauliflower for my veggie daughter and several fish options. Everything was delicious. The service was special - thoughtful and pleasant. Breakfast and lunch were also well presented. Special note of the Guatemalan cerviche. OMG, could eat every day! Everywhere you went, the people were kind and helpful. Truly a wonderful place

Only complaints i have is that it was somewhat difficult to get a hold of them before our stay. Sometimes it would be a week before i got an email reply. Also, the lack of info about transfers. We wanted to take a helicopter back to the city and didnt know that there was time restraints until we tried to book it, therefore making us have to take the 3 hr. Car ride. All in all absolutely beautiful through! Go do the tours of the city and ask for Renaldo!!

My wife and I stayed here with family and we felt like we were at home. This place has a private, exclusive, and home fell to it. Everyone was excellent. Much thanks to Rosa (GM), Jairo (day time lead server), Eduardo (Server), and Charlie (night time lead server). Their service and attentiveness to my family was the best I've ever seen from any other hotel or boutique.

No pudimos usar la piscina más grande del hotel porque “unas personas” se estaban hospedando por 14 días y tenían esa área reservada..... es enserio???? 2. El hotel no es resort. No es para nada grande. 3. Y la más importante y que más me fastidió al punto que preferí desayunar, cenar y todo lo demás afuera del hotel, fue el personal de recepción. Pésimos y cero cordiales. No gasten su dinero cuando pueden hospedarse en otro lugar con la misma vista a mucho mejor precio y con personas que si te traten bien. Eso hice yo. Me dio a hospedar el resto de mi viaje a otro hotel y fue la mejor decisión.
