Guest Reviews
- Glenda (8/5): - Highly recommend đ
- Beryl (8/5): - Food was fantastic
- Nathan (6/5): - The hotel itself for the price paid was great room was small but clean really nice bathroom my only issue was a big issue on the 2nd night I got home late 1am my swipe card got me into the building but wouldnât work for my room, no assistance at that time no response from the number on the door so got stuck outside my room for 8hours until I managed to talk to the part owner who was at the hotel Sunday morning, frustrating these things happen nothing I could do about it but lack of support makes it difficult as a travel agent to recommend it for clients of mine but all in all if you need a cheap room for a good location in Hobart go for it
- CARROL (10/5): - Fabulous place to stay
- Rowena (6/5): - Very clean and quiet. Hot water ran out and TV did not work but it was well priced and great location with lots of dining options
- 521MaryB521 (10/5): Best accomodation in North Hobart. - Very affordable comfortable accomodation in prime position of North Hobart (restaurant land and near State Theatre for best movies). Quality bed and fabulous bathroom. Great service. However I preferred the old wonderful red colour instead of being painted white.
- Jeremy (8/5): - Needed a room for a night with the family and it served its purpose, facilities are great and staff accomodating
- Keai (8/5): - Meals were very nice
- Narelle (8/5): - The convenience of being able to walk to all the places surrounding the hotel. Across the road to the State Cinema. Walking distance to all the restaurants and bars in the surrounding area. Free parking was also a big plus for the hotel. No worrying about where to park. Would definitely stay there again.
- Possumcom (10/5): Queens Head Hotel North Hobart - My partner and I stayed five days at this Hotel. It was a great experience for us. The rooms were serviced every day, which I didnât expect. (I am a member of Wyndham and that doesnât happen in their resorts). Breakfast is not included, but there are two excellent places very handy that have wonderful menus.
The staff were fantastic. Such a wonderful atmosphere in the bar.
If there is something missing in the room, you just have to tell them.
There are lots of eateries around the location, but the hotel has an excellent menu, with 20% off, for people staying in the Hotel.
I particularly liked the calamari and couldâve eaten it every day! The steak was divine, and I also loved the pasta dishes.
If you were staying there for a long time, there is a laundry just across the road. And buses to the city also handy.
- Petra (6/5): - Air conditioning not heating ramped up to 32°didn't help warmth was needed as it was July and cold.NB we had just traved all around Tassie and this was unfortunately the coldest room experience.
management did try their best to help but there was no other better room. We were given extra doonas and eventually managed to get comfortable. To park the car it will be outside in the allocated hotel patron's car park. Also entry to rooms is a bit iffy and suitcases up the stairs only.
Once in there there is no inside access to resaurant and bar area.
Once inside (by going back to outside entry to the Bar and Resaurant area, the service, staff and food was excellent.
- Annisa (8/5): - Good location, friendly staff, free parking at the back, 20% off meal at the bar, small fridge in the room, clean nice shower, very good value for money.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great friendly staff and very tidy comfy bed
- Dylan (6/5): - Good location. 20 percent off meals was a good idea and utilised.
- Craig (8/5): - Overall...a positive experience, some door lock and tv issues probably took longer to fix than it should have but the meal discounts to guests were an equaliser, house guest allocated parking would be a suggestion...the car park is like a lotto game in the evenings...value for money
- Garth (8/5): - Bed and bedding were very comfortable. Room and bathroom were quite new. Tv was too small.
- CHRIS (4/5): - Thanks to the champ who left the MP3 player on constant loop all night, and was still going when we checked out. We got no sleep as the music kept us awake.
- Noel (10/5): - Excellent
- Maria (10/5): - Inside is very nice, well maintained and comfy
- David (8/5): - Nice room with all required amenities.
Only issues with room was mould over the shower and a loose toilet seat. Everything else was perfect. I will definitely stay here again.
- Laura (10/5): - Amazing
- Leora (6/5): Friendly but disappointed with housekeeping - Stayed at the Queens Hotel from Wednesday night to Sunday. Bathroom had mold over the ceiling (photos attached). I booked at an affordable price so I let this go. Housekeeping hadnt been done on the Thursday (I was out all morning) and also let this go. Wanted to make sure this was done on the Friday so I messaged on the Friday afternoon asking if housekeeping was daily to which the hotel said yes and asked if I needed anything in particular. I said that the room hadnt been made the day before so I would double check when I came back to the room. I came back late on the Friday afternoon and only had fresh towels placed on an UNMADE bed with some toiletries also replaced. Housekeeping came on the Saturday but I was still in the room getting ready to leave and because I felt rushed I told them to not bother (they had given me 20mins). It should probably be made clear whether its actual daily housekeeping or just fresh towels daily.
Apart from housekeeping issues, the pub staff were incredibly friendly. Cant fault the customer service and the food was amazing. The hotel staff were responsive to text which was greatly appreciated.
The location and free parking was a massive bonus. Not short on food options and the launderette was across the road.
- Mark (10/5): - đ
- Shanta (8/5): - Very affordable and close proximity to site seeing/buses/shopping. Staff were amazing.
- Sandra (8/5): - Great location on Elizabeth Street with lots of shops and cafes. The room was big and comfortable, free wi-fi and TV. Restaurant was amazing, great food and discounts for being a guest. Staff 10/10...... but just note, no bed service. We were there 9 night and not 1 linen change.
- Nick (8/5): - Great accommodation for the price, food and service in the pub polite and quick to serve.
- Ivan (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable
- Lindi (6/5): - On this occasion, I had pre-booked and pre-paid for 2 nights. After checking in, I entered my allocated to room to find that it was either already in use, or had not been cleaned. This was eventually settled with an agreement that I would be checked in to another room, check out the following morning, check back in for the second night to another room. However, on arriving back the second night, there was no booking for me and no room immediately available. After a very long wait, I was allocated a room - I suspect that the bar staff had probably cleaned and reset this room to enable check in. The hotel is well located with free parking, but after a long day at work, this kind of inconvenience is too much to deal with - doubtful that I would stay here again.
- Mary (4/5): - Door key wouldnât work. No teaspoons so we used one of our own out of a kit which we have had forever and the next day our spoon was taken and still no teaspoon left đĄ noise at night terrible
- Yvonne (8/5): - As it is newish it is in good condition. We had a kitchenette with Microwave, Kettle, 2 cups 2 forks. Nothing else. Unable to wipe down sink, dry cups. No change of towels in 4 days. Bed was very comfortable.
- Dylan (6/5): - Great location for bars and dining. Reasonably priced and close to the city :)
- Miriam (10/5): - Accommodation was very clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful would recommend this hotel
- Joe (6/5): - We stayed in three different rooms. The first was roomy, the second 2 quite cramped.
- William (8/5): - Grounds need a clean up Staff where very helpful
- William (8/5): - Location was verygood, staff helpful.
My room was on the corner, over the thumping music. Luckily I'm a heavy sleeper.
- Ben (10/5): - Pleasant clean hotel in an area with plenty of food and beverage options
- Geoff (10/5): - There was nothing i didn't like just overall great experience for all the reasons above. The staff were really happy to help out.
- Brian (10/5): - In a great position, handy to Hobart city and lots of restaurants, great staff and good beer prices and meals, would definitely recommend.
- Joe (6/5): - A work in progress hopefully. Clean comfortable room recently renovated, but a lack of attention to detail in the finishing touches and upkeep. Old lounge chairs and fridge, (in the wrong spot), tea coffee not topped up, very little crockery, clean to a point, but shower drain hadnt been properly cleaned for some time. Last visitors shower gel still in the shower. Windows dirty. Surprisingly quiet in spite of being on a main road. Pub downstairs serves a very good feed at reasonable prices one of the highlights. Great access to a heap of eateries on Elizabeth St.
Stairs only access to all rooms upstairs could be a limiting factor for some.
Could easily be 4-5 star with a bit more effort.
- Kelly (8/5): - .
- Brad (8/5): - It was all about right for the price. The room was clean, even if the decorating was a bit tired. The mattress was VERY soft, and looked pretty new. Towels were thick and absorbent. The accomodation corridor had a âcouncil-paying-for-overflow-long-term-housingâ vibe, and the rooms had tonnes of cabinet space with no apparent use, so I did wonder if this was a mixed-use venue. Lots of pub noise, but not enough to disturb sleep.
- Danny (8/5): - Checkin was easy, stayed 12 nights, (I don't know if the cleaners are contractors or not, but I think the rooms should be cleaned at least every 3 day's ) Sheets on the beds was only changed once in the whole time, had to chase staff to get toilet rolls. Other than, the room was clean, food a bit pricey but good. What this hotel needs to do, is have a folder in the room with food price's, what's on specials, happy hour etc.
Would Stay here again.
- Stuart (8/5): - A
- Jennifer (10/5): - Amazing
- Kathryn (8/5): - Staff were terrific. Happy friendly helpful ...thanks guys ..
- WENDY (8/5): - All of the above
- Richard (10/5): - My wife had just come out of hospital and we asked for room service which wasnât normally an option. The staff were so helpful and accommodating and cannot recommend them enough. Will definitely stay again.
Only drawback was no teaspoons for coffee in the morning.
- Silvia (8/5): - Super
- Larry (10/5): - Comfortable, large en suite
- Matthew (8/5): - There was an old coleslaw and half chocolate bar in the fridge however
- Steven (2/5): - I made a mistake on a location in a state I didnt know and tried to cancel this three minutes after booking it. I looked for hotels in Richmond and thought this one was in Richmond, but it is just the name. As soon as I realised error I contacted Wotif to cancel it. Yes - they have a no cancellation policy, but three minutes later? Come pn...
These crooks would not return my money.
- Anthony (8/5): - I found the air conditioning unit to be loud and had troubles sleeping at times.
- evelyn (8/5): - Clean, quite, easy parking & close to the city
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not great checked in after 2pm. Room in same state as prior guest and not clean. In poor state and smelled unfortunately. Was advised would be at least an hour until would be cleaned when in told them. Were apologies made but checked out due to overall experience immediately
- malcolm (10/5): - North Hobart is a very nice area to stay. Excellent dining options and the staff at this hotel were very nice and helpful
- Carl (6/5): - Value for money
- Barbara (8/5): - The staff were all helpful and happy which always helps!
- Kristy-Maree (8/5): - Location is great, thereâs plenty of restaurants, cafes and places to have a drink, all in waking distance. Room was comfortable, bed comfy, bathroom facilities were good too.
- Frank (10/5): - Great staff, always pleasant and very helpful. Will stay there again
- Sam (6/5): - It lacked completely any tea/coffee making. Half filled coffee station, no milk, when asking if we could get any from the kitchen we were told they didnt have any milk at all.
No hair dryer, no glasses for water, no iron, and a very hard to reach window for anyone travelling without a 6 ft tall man to open it! The room was stuffy so we needed the air. No second pillow or blanket. Luckily we travelled when its not too cold.
For the price we paid which is similar everywhere we have been this was obviously one that needs attention to the small things. Being able to have a cuppa after a day of travelling and sightseeing is a must.
- Louise (2/5): - Disappointing check in process, had to wait 15 mins for unknown reason, just told to wait or have a seat. Guy came back with our room card, very casual about the process, we went to our allocated room to find it in the condition that the last person left it in. Very poor first impression, we went back to reception and requested a refund and booked accommodation elsewhere. Whilst the guy was nice and respectful, the experience was not great. Appeared unorganised and not ready to accomodate guests.
- Lennart (4/5): - contact information non existent seeing property under new ownership and renovation. Did not know how to get in, no signs anywhere. Managed to get in by kitchen entrance after searching premises .Got hold of person in charge - result got key card that did not work new room given. key card was a problem the whole stay.
- Geoff (10/5): - The hotel exceeded my expectations for the price.
- Robert (2/5): - The property was being renovated, basically except for the room the rest of the place was a worksite. No staff, no amenities other than the room itself. No phone number to contact anyone. Had a problem with key not working, even had to go and find toilet paper. Room was noisy. Inside of fridge was rusty, the room smelt, and there was no where to hang your cloths.. Was not at all notified that renovations were taking place and there would be none of the amenities as advertised available. Worst place I have ever stayed in.
- Anna (8/5): - This is a good location and budget accommodation. The new owners had only just taken over so are working on a few things. Blind to get better.
- Getaway59524459450 (10/5): Great location, clean affordable rooms ... - Queen's Heard Hotel Hobart - perfect location for those who wish to eat out for breakfast/lunch/dinner, visit the wonderful Tasmanian State Cinema (across the road!) and walk/bus into town. This hotel is located in a bustling, alive part of Hobart surrounded by cafes/restaurants from many cultures and interesting little shops (inc. thrift shops). The room that I stayed in was superbly clean, relatively quiet (given that it sits above a hotel) and super convenient. It is only a 10-15 minutes walk into Hobart's CBD.
- s0rells1 (6/5): Good, quick pub lunch, as usual here. - It's a fairly short drive for us to many eating places in and around Hobart. Queens Head hotel bar meals are always a standby when we can't decide where to go. Properly cooked and enough for the main meal of the day. We will return.
- RowanH336 (8/5): Adequate option for those not seeking excellence - PROS
* Location - within walking distance (about 2-3km for memory) or short uber to main attractions in hobart
* Publican we came across showed fantastic service
* The hotel is in a building attached to but not above the bar so there was no noise issues
* Fairly cheap compared to competitors
* Laundrette located across the road if you need to do laundry
* Clean
* Elizabeth street is littered with restaurants and cafes - pub wasn't actually too bad for a meal
CONS
* Room was pretty small
* No lift to get up the stairs so you have to haul your suitcases through some fairly narrow passageways.
Overall a good option for the price point
- gregsQ3347MW (2/5): Work social night - Male bar tender at the front bar Tuesday night 22/9 was very unwelcoming and rude to our group, quite disappointing considering how the hospitality industry is struggling everywhere right now and we were looking forward to enjoying our evening.
- Sanj1965 (10/5): Great food, fantastic prices, clean rooms and wonderful service - Stayed for the majority of the week. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, (I was pleasantly surprised that it was Kingsize) = which I now love much to my husbands despair! Anyway, the staff are amazing, the meals are generous and extremely reasonable and what more can I say! I now like north Hobart and had never thought of staying there only it was for work.
- Tastigger (10/5): Finally a pub with pub prices. - Extensive menu. Prices are more than reasonable. Servings are generous. Booking a breeze and service amazing even though understaffed. Warm and spacious enough. Wheelchair accessible to the dining area.
- keirsemmens (10/5): Can't beat the service! - I flew in on a Friday for an evening wedding, but was delayed three hours by the airline. As a result I was forced to head directly to the ceremony on arrival, which meant I didn't have time to check in beforehand. This was a concern, because I knew I wouldn't make it to the hotel until 2am, well past closing. I need not have worried. Scott went out of his way to help. He made a special arrangement for me to collect the key from a secure location, and then followed up to ensure all went smoothly. You can't beat service like that! And the room was perfect. Comfy beds, well away from the bar so very quiet, with easy access to nearby restaurants, cafes and downtown Hobart. I'll be back!
- tonypark50 (8/5): Great steak - Good parking in the rear and has all been refurbished and a great ambience.
Was there for lunch with my mum, she had fish and chips and I had a great steak - see the pic.
I should have had gravy on the side as the chips got soggy - but was good mushroom sauce.
- cmzajicek88 (8/5): Easy Accommodation - We were a bit nervous at first staying on top of a pub, but the location and price were right and we arenât too fussy with accommodation so we thought why not! Really glad we stayed, everything was easy, check-in and check-out were seamless, it had everything we needed (tea and coffee making facilities, clean, bathroom, the comfiest bed and a warm heater!) sure the room is small, but we were never there except to sleep, we were out exploring! Separate entrance to accommodation than the bar made us not have to worry about any interactions and we heard no pub noise at all!
- jantraveller4 (6/5): North Hobart stay. Pub accomm.Busy weekend Hobart - Main Street location, Off Street free parking. staff friendly for check in process. Bed was comfortable( more on the soft side) lots of pillows. Looks like bathrooms have recently been refurbished. ( no hairdryer) Saturday night no band, however loud music can still be heard from downstairs until quite late, so maybe ask for a room at the opposite end if that is going to be a concern( we were early to bed for early start next day ). Overall a comfortable stay.
- grahamrF5603ZO (6/5): Just Pub food - Only went here based on previous reviews.
The food was really average (or even a bit below). I had Bangers & Mash where the gravy was okay, the mash just okay and the sausages were not okay.
My wife had Rump steak with mushroom sauce, and she too was underwhelmed.
As in other reviews, we did find that the dining area not being separated from the bar as a bit strange, but not really an issue.
Overall, disappointing.
- 302LisaC (8/5): We will be back - Being a "pub" it is a little noisy - would be great if the dining area could be separated from the bar area - but that is my only whinge. Big board with great selection of mains for both adults and children with plenty of choice options even for the fussy eater. I had the chicken snitzel done Hawaiian style - meat was tender, with chips and salad. No complaints here. I opted for the smaller size serve and this was plenty big enough for me. Husband chose the scotch fillet steak - to which he enjoyed with lashes of mushroom sauce. Waitress was very obliging and polite. Overall a good night out and would recommend Queens Head for a good, inexpensive, filling meal.
- U3849PCbobm (8/5): Great Food at a Great Price - Great Venue to dine at for the whole Family, good selection on the menu for both adults and kids.
The Steaks are magic, Scallops are to die for [ when in season - Tassy Scallops ].
The owner - Scott is a great publican, treats ALL his client very well, even likes a bit of a joke...
- rhanag2013 (10/5): Best kept secret in Hobart! - Well it may not exactly be a secret but it was definitely a wonderful discovery for us! The room was super clean, bright and functional, and although compact it didn't feel small because of the lovely high ceilings. The bed was AMAZING and I had the best nights sleep in a very long time. There was a bit of road noise, but surprisingly barely any noise from the pub downstairs, and we stayed on a Friday night so the place was pumping. The rain head shower was absolute bliss, I'd love this bathroom in my own home. I would only make one small suggestion, a couple of bedside lamps would great. The staff were super helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend the Queens Head Hotel as an excellent place to stay, and we will certainly be making it our go to accommodation whenever we come down to visit our son. Thankyou!
- Evajoergensen (10/5): I would stay here again - Nice hotel in North Hobart. It is on the main street and there are loads of restaurants/cafes around. Room was clean and silent.
Staff is the best! After my stay I went 3 days to Launceston and they stored my suitcase! They are so helpful and always smiling!
I would definitely recommend this hotel!
You get a lot for your money.
- 157katyag (2/5): Suffocating - no windows or ventilation! - We stayed for 3 nights and it seemed a bit stuffy the first night. The windows are painted in so can't be opened and there is no ventilation, only an air conditioner which doesn't draw air from outside. We asked the manager about this and he said "that's weird" and that he would get back to us about it, but he never did. Other than that, it was a fine hotel, but unfortunately as breathing is essential, we had to leave early on the last night at 4am due to suffocation. Also we asked some of the other residents about it and they couldn't open their windows either but weren't as bothered because they were only staying there 1 night.
- cj9090 (8/5): Value for money - Was a bit nervous staying above the 'pub' over a weekend on a short visit to Hobart however the noise levels were fine even with the live music on the Saturday night! Clean and modern room with a good bathroom and an easy 20 minute walk to the center/waterfront and some great restaurants in 5 mins walk!
- Baldbug (6/5): Drink and Meal on Sunday Evening - We thought we could have a drink, a meal but only a drink as they only serve lunches on Sunday. The drink was ok and bar person was good and helpful. Game of Keno and drink and we went on to a meal elsewhere. Another group of 4 or so blokes came for meals but were turned away.
- 357PaulM357 (10/5): Great pub tucker - An honest pub meal.. generous serving ... fantastic menu ... heaps of choices with large and small options and realistic pricing ...
A great spot on the strip, across the road from to state cinema and close to city
- gedmunds (8/5): Booked a room to attend a Birthday Function on-site - Attending a Birthday Function in the upstairs area of Queens Head so decided to book a room to avoid travel after the celebrations. Room was great - heat pump, ensuite with large shower, king size bed and lots of pillows, large TV on wall, fridge, microwave, coffee-making - all very clean and modern looking. Check-in staff were very welcoming and the function was a great success!! Bar prices were pretty good and the supplied finger food was tasty and fresh!! Mind you, it is a nightclub type venue so if looking for a quiet room before midnight to 1 or 2 am, perhaps not suited .. we didn't mind as we were partying on anyway. Check-out was simple and unhurried. Great little spot if you don't mind a bit of late noise. Very central to all North Hobart has to offer - cinemas, restaurants, wine bars, etc.
