- Lovett (8/5): - Good bar was open when I arrived.
- William (8/5): One overnight stay for two people. - Its not 5 star but it doesn't charge 5 star prices.it was clean and comfortable and did a lovely breakfast. Due to mobility issues we struggled a bit with the stairs, but thats not a fault of the hotel.
- John (5/5): Lovely quaint hotel, friendly staff , requires to be up graded - The hotel is on the main street and plenty of parking. The hotel is dated , the bar area was fine, but the rooms require to be updated.
- Janet (9/5): Great place to stay and excellent value - Friendly staff, excellent breakfast and very good location in the centre of Castle Douglas
- emma (8/5): Great location and lovely staff - Staff were very welcoming, breakfast was great and a variety of things to chose from Very dated, but we knew that before arrival
- Lochhead (8/5): Enjoyable - Breakfast, ambience Needs some TLC
- Michael (5/5): Great short break - Location and nice people nothing was any trouble Bathroom and bedroom need attention
- Una (10/5): We would highly recommend this hotel. It is a budget hotel but it has everything you need and more. Trish and her staff - Trish is a wonderful host and staff members Heather and Adrian were so helpful and friendly. The hotel has a lovely family feeling about it. The full English breakfast gets 10/10. We would definitely stay here again.
- Paul (8/5): Great for a comfortable night stay. - Safe parking for Motorcycle. Meet by nice man, no hassle. Hot water, clean room, nice room and bed. Tea making facilities, what more do you want from a budget hotel after an 8 hour ride. Also breakfast was first class. Decorated did need updating but the price was excellent.
- eaves (7/5): - The staff were very helpful Stairs
- Mark (10/5): -
- Julie (8/5): Lovely stay slept really well despite some noise from the pub next door - Lovely staff Breakfast yummy A bit run down..
- Roger (10/5): Good value for money, will use it again if in the area. - Easy to get to and the staff were very helpful and friendly. No lift to upper floor, I’m getting old and my knees need a rest!
- John (8/5): - On C2C cycle route and safe storage for bikes.
Good breakfast and helpful staff
- M&JMcM (10/5): - It was actually my husband who was there
e, he goes to meet friends.
He enjoys a Good basic hotel. Everyone looks for Budget prices and Expects the Ritz !!
For a cheap trip away you get a Warm Welcome, Clean Room, Bar with good beer 🍺. And in the morning the Breakfast Full Scottish Tea and Toast, you can help yourself to cereal.
Want to relax choose a Really nice family BUDGET Hotel 🏨🛏️
- David (10/5): - Friendly staff and local punters. Could not help enough as soon as we walked through the door. Peoples....if you're coming to Castle Douglas, this is the place to start. We loved everything.
- Elena (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and accommodating, room was spotless
- John (7/5): -
- Brown (10/5): - Like the warm welcime when we both arrived at the hotel, very pleasant nice and modern, clean and tidy, excellent value for budget price and over night stay, would come back again, had a very good scottish breafast was excellent and very good service , will come bacl very soon for a acouple of days next time , good location to town city, all means to public transport and plenty pf car parking Hotel was a little run down, and a little tired, still good enough for a refurb
- Shirley (1/5): -
- Calum (8/5): Absolutely wonderful welcoming staff. Warm comfortable and spotlessly clean. These prices make travelling affordable for - The building is full of character
- Andrew (3/5): Friendly folk, good breakfast, could do with a scrub. - Staff very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast good value. Very tired decor, needing a deep clean. No hot water for shower (although plenty in sink tap).
- ross (6/5): Overnight stay in Castle Douglas - Central location on the High street.
Food was fine and staff were friendly. Redecoration must have been done in a hurry as work was left incomplete, largely let down by contractor who undertook the work.
Noisy central heating system which requires air released from radiators and easy and quick task. This can keep you awake.
No night porter service and no response to out of hours call to phone numbers. The establishment was basically shut down by 9 pm in the evening. Regards this as a questionable operation.
- Donna (5/5): Welcoming - Very friendly and welcoming Very dated, room was dirty and dusty but the bed was clean. Breakfast was lovely
- Irene (7/5): Was out a lot so it was just a base. - It was central for the town. A large car park. Owner was friendly and breakfast was served quickly. Tea and coffee in the rooms hair dryer. Beds were clean. The property is a very dated a bit drab in the rooms. TV had no BBC, STV etc channels only the film ones (Netflix, Prime etc.)
I fortunately had earplugs with me. Needed them as it was windy and the flag outside our window kept flapping.
If they could concentrate doing one room at a time they could up their price when done.
Just needs TLC.
- Manning (8/5): - Good inexpensive accommodation with pleasant and helpful staff. Nothing to dislike. For the price we paid including breakfast we were more than happy.
- ADAM (1/5): -
- Steven (1/5): Cheap but not worth the money - The property is on a central location and free parking is available. Staff were friendly. On arrival the reception area is tatty and worn. We were given the key to Room 2. When we opened the room door we were shocked at the general condition of the room. It was dirty, there was no mattress protector on the bed, dust and dirt on all the surfaces and most worryingly, black mould covered the bathroom ceiling. After reporting this we were given keys to another room which was certainly better but still stained and dirty. I have never left accommodation before due to hygiene however we did in this place and left without staying. I know people say the price reflects the standard however even a budget hotel should offer an acceptable level of cleanliness which The Imperial Hotel did not on our stay.
- Hitchen (9/5): for the price the stay was better than we expected thank you. - lovely cooked breakfast the staff went above and beyond to make our party feel welcome. all went well nothing was disliked.
- Michael (7/5): One night stay - Good location, great breakfast, lovely staff/owner. Great value for money. Property needs updating but I believe that is scheduled soon.
- Ben (7/5): -
- Neil (1/5): Was checked in for 2 night, left after the 1st and had to book another hotel due to the conditions - Rooms dirty, smelt of smoke and damp and mould
- David (8/5): - The hotel is dated but we expected that after reading previous reviews. We needed a place for the night and were very happy with what we got. Yes, its not a swanky hotel, but what it is, is clean, comfortable and does a very good cooked breakfast! Good value for money if you just need a stop over. Slightly noisy with only single glazed sash and case windows which also makes the room cold, however, oil filled radiators are in the room to keep the heat up. We found that adequate enough.
- Alan (9/5): Nice stay for a short break, ideal for walkers etc - Room was lovely, looked newly refurbished, Didn’t like the old fashioned double bed with zipped single mattresses. Also on arrival to room the room was freezing cold. But once electric heater was on warmed up nicely.
- Cook (5/5): - Location was good and price was cheap. Room and hotel were very 'tired' and bathroom was quite dirty.
- OLDALE (7/5): - Friendliness of staff The town
- Ruth (9/5): Perfect for nature photography - It was clean and had plenty of very hot water , the breakfast was excellent and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful It was a little tired but everything was clean
- Margaret (9/5): Coaching house visitor - Welcome from reception warm and helpful, knowledgeable about area. Was lovely sitting in lounge in a quiet place with laptop.
In the evening brought takeaway to lounge and plates and cutlery provided by hotel staff, then they cleaned everything and I went to Sam's bar and again staff and locals were warm and welcoming.
Breakfast was a feast that kept me going tilt evening meal.
Special thanks to Patricia x
- Elaine (6/5): -
- Babs (2/5): It's a thumbs down! - The staff were great. When we asked for a different room, it was no problem. The breakfast was OK. Didn't manage down for breakfast the second morning as we had such a great time in the bar the night before! The locals are really friendly folk! Unfortunately the first room we had was grotty to say the least! Broken window, terrible shower and in need of a good clean. The second room was only slightly better. The whole hotel is in need of some TLC. In its present state I wouldn't recommend staying there, which is a shame as the staff were great.
- David (5/5): - The staff was very helpful Paid for a double bed , got to single
Beds pushed together vertically uncomfortable
Poor nights sleep
- John (1/5): Uncomfortable -
- Steve (9/5): Made very welcome and very good value for money - Staff members were fantastic
- Catherine (4/5): Sad and very tired building - Location and good parking Dirty room very dusty with cobwebs and only one plug socket . The sink was cracked and window In The bathroom . Bed clean and comfortable breakfast far for the cost . The shower did not work and the water was not hot for a wash. The heating was not on till the night so you needed a fan heater on which took the only electric
Socket. It was a sad experience .
- James (8/5): Good wee night in the bar - Staff and locals very friendly Probably a wee bit old fashioned but clean and functional
- Cameron (10/5): Excellent in all regards. - Everything was perfect. Nothing could have been better.
- Anne (7/5): Pleasant place to stay for ferry crossing. Lovely town, dependent shops - Nice hotel, staff very welcoming. Hotel just a bit dated but had lovely character which is lacking in modern facilities Aged carpets and bathrooms
- Gordon (6/5): -
- Gordon (6/5): -
- Martin (5/5): -
- Hazel (6/5): Comfortable enough in a good location with friendly staff - Breakfast great and served with a smile and a chat.
Comfortable room, bed and nights sleep although decor and carpets etc are very dated and worn now. Room window couldn't close although weather warm it didn't help with the pub noise next door when in the room during the evening. However it did stop by 11pm ish.
- Tim (7/5): No frills, well positoned, reasonable price, competant staff. - Central town Noose from pub
- Grant (9/5): -
- Soon Yul (9/5): -
- Arran (5/5): It was a nice hotel the staff were lovely but the room was a bit unclean and uncomfortable - Nice staff The window was very difficult to close, there were slugs in the bathroom, cups weren’t clean and the bed was very uncomfortable
- Mrs D (8/5): - A good nights sleep. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. Good variety of breakfasts. Including an excellent full Scottish, exceptional value and included in the price. A little dated, but that didn't detract from the great service or value.
- Heather (6/5): Welcomed and although no frills we were comfortable for our one night stay. - Friendly, helpful staff very welcoming. Comfortable bed, wonderful breakfast It’s not that I didn’t like it, but the general appearance of the hotel is tired, but clean and there are signs that someone has gone to real effort to make improvements.
- James (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed. - Great value for money. Super friendly staff and a comfortable bed. My breakfast was great.....hot and very filing. I would definitely stay again.
- Guest (9/5): -
- Stewart (3/5): Cheap, but not worth it - Friendly staff Collapsed bed, dirty room, noisy bar and guests shouting in the street until 2am.
- Megan (7/5): Good location. Good breakfast and staff. Okay value for money. - Breakfast and staff. Good location. Old interior and outdated windows and heating. Hot water in shower didn’t work.
- Megan (6/5): Breakfast and staff lovely. Cheap stay but needs an upgrade. - Breakfast was amazing. Lovely staff. Place desperately needs an upgrade. Outdated decor. Single glazing windows so it was noisy and cold but extra heater was in the room. Hot water didn’t work in shower. Noise heard throughout night like pipes - not sure if it the heating system or other folks using the plumbing.
- Georg (1/5): Avoid - Nothing as that bad I never stayed ,I asked refund but was refused Noisey as disco underneath me,was shifted to a different room which was cold ,
not clean and smells
- Robert (7/5): Great stay - Nice welcome spacious room and bathroom good breakfast friendly staff
- Jeri (3/5): Beyond disappointed in the hotel, and in Booking.com for not verifying the info. Won’t make that mistake again. - The people were really nice. Our room was freezing. The radiator did not work, and we were relegated to a small space heater that barely took the chill off. The bed was a bed. Period. We ended up sleeping in our clothes the first and only night, I might add; we checked out the following morning after we asked about breakfast and were informed you only get breakfast if you book and check-in the day before. The tv was hilarious. It barely worked, and the sound didn’t work, until about 10 pm. The best thing they had was the internet.
We moved to Holiday Inn, which will be my first choice in the future. Extremely disappointed. The picture of the hotel shows cars, but they are all 1960’s models. This is an old hotel.
- Arlene (2/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - Lovely old hotel, value for money and a very comfortable bed. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was hot, delicious and filling. I would stay again. Nothing all was as expected
- Roberta (7/5): -
- black (6/5): nice place for a quick stopover - When I arrived, I was told that breakfast was served from 7:30 to 9:30 on weekdays. I explained that for the first two days of my stay, I needed to leave the hotel by 7:30 and would have to skip breakfast. They then asked if serving at 7:00 would give me enough time. I said it would, so they told me to come down at 7:00, and the staff would be ready for me. the hotel is well overdue a face lift décor from an age well gone
but the rooms were clean and comfortable
not a 5* hotel but you aren't paying for one either
- Tammy (8/5): -
- Margaret (10/5): Lone traveler - Warm welcoming staff, felt like one of the family. After reading comments from some of booking.com travellers it was very off-putting, I think some travellers want to pay low budget prices and stay in the Ritz.
Room was clean and warm with extra heaters there if you require extra warmth, shower takes a while to get warm which is normal in hotels of two hundred years of age.
Thanks to a fantastic breakfast was unable to eat till teatime Weather, but that's Scotland ! the locals and staff were warm though 😘
- Carol (10/5): Fantastic staff, very friendly, fab bar .. all good.. just needs a bathroom upgrade.. wouldn’t put us off coming back ag - Central location and always looking for secure parking.. spot on..
The staff were so friendly, accommodating and helpful.. Sorry.. en-suite needs upgrading.. very retro pink bath.. but still very clean.. one of the towels had holes in it.. but was clean n fresh.. but your forgiven because we had a lovely stay and the room was fantastic and very comfy and cozy bed. xx
- barry (7/5): Decent rooms nice staff enjoyable stay - Breackfast was fine location was good Decor was a bit dated but pleasent enough
- Julia (1/5): -
- alex (6/5): -
- Sharon (7/5): Lovely atmosphere and great breakfast - Friendly and comfortable
- jchoo (2/5): Umm - The staff were lovely, the breakfast was very nice. Gaps in windows left room cold, pulsating music from pub downstairs. Very clean hotel in desperate need of updating
- Elizabeth (1/5): - Nothing No heating no hot water mattress and bed falling to pieces the general up keep of the room very poor and the noise levels very bad left after one day feel I should get a refund
- Steve (8/5): Thank you ladies - Everything thing was good and the staff were brilliant
- Bob (5/5): Enjoyable stay, would have been better with a properly cleaned bathroom. - Breakfasts were great, plenty of food, well cooked and presented, and Hot. Bathroom cleanliness.
- Duncan (3/5): -
- Krzysztof (4/5): - Obsługa bardzo miła i z poczuciem humoru. Dobre śniadanie. Lokalizacja na głównej ulicy. Wygodne łóżka. Czuć stęchlizne w całym korytarzu. Grzyb na suficie w łazience i oknach pokój 6. Wifi nie działało w pokoju. Ręczniki dostarczone do pokoju były mokre poszarpane i brudne. Brak centralnego ogrzewania. Piecyk elektryczny w pokoju trzeba było wyłączyć przed pójściem spać więc noc była chłodna. Zdecydowanie nie warty cześć ceny.
- Fiona (4/5): very poor and wont use again - Nothing Very dated and not clean. There was a humming vibration like a boiler. Bedrooms were very poor and felt and looked like a staff room
- Lynn (4/5): - Staff lovely and friendly. Needs a good overhaul.
- Manuela (9/5): -
- Margaret (5/5): - Liked the shops and restaurants Room.was very very old and very cold
- Jean (8/5): - Very welcoming hotel with amazing breakfast every morning. Lovely staff and owners.Needs updating but very comfortable. Just a bit noisy at night but not a problem.
- Lowe (8/5): Great value for money hotel ideal for anyone needing a good breakfast and a nice soak after activities. - Central location, easy to find, great parking facilities.
Warm and comfortable.
Patricia and staff very welcoming and efficient.
Nice curtains and chairs. Rather dated bathroom suite needing new grouting and tiles.
Carpet round toilet very inappropriate.
- Gordon (7/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Location. Breakfast. Bed and mattress well past their best.
- Helen (6/5): A good experience all things considered? - Breakfasts were excellent. The staff were brilliant.
Especially Patricia and her crew This hotel is very dated but it was an old coaching inn . And in today’s market I guess it would be prohibitively expensive to upgrade.
So our family thought it was very good value for what we paid The beds were very comfortable best nights sleep I have had in ages.
- George (2/5): -
- Rolf (7/5): Nettes, ursprüngliches Hotel -
- Alan (1/5): Shocking room which was dirty and very out dated, bathroom was appalling mould everywhere. -
- EVE (7/5): Would recommend and stay again. Thank you! - Great breakfast. Welcoming staff. Dogs allowed. Clean room. Good value for money. Everything fine, tho rooms would benefit from redecorating.
