- Jacqueline (9/5): - Gracious welcome, cared for our comfort.
- Alinka (10/5): A beautiful peaceful stay. - I loved how peaceful the ryokan was. The house, garden and the interior were beautiful. The staff were amazing! They were extremely helpful, understanding and kind. I recommend Yadoya Nishijinso to people visiting Kyoto and I would return in the future!

- Yevhenii (8/5): Pretty nice place to try out a traditional Ryokan experience. - The location and vibes are pretty good, the place is located not too far from the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden. Also it's located pretty near the subway line which makes commute from the train station near seamless and easy.
We lived in a room with the traditional Japanese style, with tatami mats, futons, low table and pillows for seating.
The room was pretty spacious compared to Western-style hotel rooms for 2.
The place is open 24/7, so guests can return at any time, which is pretty nice. The traditional Japanese bath may be a turn-off for some, since it's implied that somebody may use a shower right beside you and it's presumed that you must take a bath being naked. Still, that's a part of experience of traditional Japan, but it might be a culture shock for some.
- Olga (8/5): Home away from home - The hospitality of the owners and quite location Toilet and shower outside
- Daniel (10/5): A comfortable room in a quiet neighborhood not far from the Kyoto Imperial Palace - The property was quiet and simple and very comfortable. The couple that runs it are the kindest people who made my stay just perfect. Nothing - everything was great
- Anna (1/5): - The staff had bad attitude. You can tell they don't like foreigners so they shouldn't run a hotel for foreigners obviously. The room wasn't nice. It didn't have a green view. Walls were paper thin. You can hear everyone in the hotel, if I can even call it hotel. It's more of a hostel where you have a room with no personal bathroom. I couldn't shower because, they locked it early for no reason. Couldn't sleep because it was noisy. Place isn't worth the money I paid. I moved to a different hotel ahead of my check out date. I do not recommend staying there.
- Allison (9/5): - Owners were so helpful & room had a lovely ambiance.
- Lars (10/5): It was very nice and comforting. I never slept better. - It was very traditional and besutiful. The owner was very nice and could speak very good english despite his old age. It could be not suited for some people because it has traditional rooms and not the new stuff so it could be possible that some insects are able to get in your room. But I hardly saw one.
- Nguyen (2/5): - Clean beds No elevator
No private bathroom
Payment in cash requirement
Accommodation tax jpy 1000/person/night
Very friendly and helpful about the accomodations, the nearby area and places to visit
- Yulei (10/5): -
- Paz (10/5): - Friendly staff and nice room in great area

- Renato (10/5): - The host was more than kind, he explained everything regarding ryokan culture. He gave us recomendations what and where to eat and what to see and visit.
The bed in our unit was so comfortable it felt like laying on a soft cloud. Every guest receive their own yukata and everything was more than clean.
Nice expirience and accomodation to recomend. -

- Veronica (10/5): - I felt like I was staying at the home of an older relative. The host explained the rules of the facility and was very kind and hospitable. The property is beautiful, especially the gardens. The whole stay was great, but as two middle-aged Americans, 2 nights on traditional Japanese futons, although they were super comfortable, was enough for us. 😊
- Marcus (8/5): - Very nice personal. Near the bus stations, and very close to convenience stores.
- Trevilla (10/5): - They where very helpful and kind. Even if at the beginning there was a small hiccup with my reservation they helped me to resolve it.
- Nare (10/5): -

- katrin (8/5): - the host was fantastic and the place have a lot of charm. the janpanse bath was also a great surprise in the evening after a long day out… thank you so much!
- Uiterst behulpzame eigenaar; spreekt Engels
- Balbín (6/5): -
- LUC (9/5): - The receptionnists were very hospitable during my stay, and the garden was very well maintened.
- Christian (9/5): Wundervolles Ryokan Erlebnis in einem Familienbetrieb - Sehr freundliches und bemühtes Betreiber-Ehepaar. Ikonisches Ryokan und das private onsen abends.
- Francesca (9/5): -
- Olivia (10/5): Sehr gut! - Traumhaft schöner Ryokan. Der Host war äusserst zuvorkommend und sympatisch. Würde sofort wieder gehen! Nichts
- Victoria (10/5): - The room was thoughtfully designed and the property is beautiful. If you happen to forget any toiletries, there are plenty provided.
The owner was very kind and he provided precise recommendations for transit. He also provided us with a map of Kyoto as well as a general guidebook for tourists.
I absolutely recommended this location for your next stay in Kyoto.
- Robin (10/5): -
- Virginia (9/5): -
- Farah (9/5): - Clean and spacious Walls are really thin as there’s just a paper wall that separates your room to others so it’s noisy at times. The changing of shoes from bathroom to regular hallway was kinda annoying
- Cristina Castro P (9/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): - The owners were the sweetest. The place was beautiful and they were very kind. Offered all kinds of explanations for traditional things I might not understand and explained the rules of the place. They also gave me some magazines with things to do in the city. The room was comfortable and had everything I needed.
They even offered to wash my clothes while I was staying or set up a bath for me. The accomodation is a short nice walk to the subway and there's plenty of buses around. The area is quiet.
- Ronald (10/5): Amazing ryokan with truely friendly and service minded manager. - The manager was sooo incredibly friendly and pleasant. I also loved te serine atmosphere. Nothing. It os not as luxurious as current hotels. But that you know when you book a ryokan. I loved it. Has all you need with peace at heart.
- Klara (10/5): New favourite - We had an amazing stay! The hotel is run by a lovely couple, who took great care of us. The hotel is beautiful, and extremely relaxing. This is my favourite hotel I have ever stayed in, and I would love to come back!
- Szilárd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional Japanese breakfast experience, short distance to Nijo castle & Emperors palace and reasonable dinner opp - The home-made Japanese breakfast, which changed every day, made our two weeks stay in Japan an exceptional experience. Apart from the fact that the Ryokan is well centered between many sightseeing opportunities. In addition we enjoyed to have several reasonable dinner opportunities very close to the hotel. Many thanks also for the offered very relaxing Japanese-style bath, once we come back, we will only stay here. -
- Seth (9/5): I hope to have a chance to return! - Beautiful property. Wonderful manager. The inn has a lovely garden and a unique layout that allows you to see it from different angles. The proprietor is kind and considerate. He took good care of me. They've got a few bicycles on site for guests to use. This is a great way to get around Kyoto if you're comfortable with urban riding. The only element that didn't quite live up to the rest of the property was the bath, which was a little grim. Not dirty, just not on the same aesthetic level as the rest of the place.
- Shirley (10/5): - The host is very welcoming and enthusiastic to share places around. This is a traditional Japanese style living on tatami and Japanese futon along with a shared public bath. You will have the best rest sleeping on those futon in this quiet neighborhood. 7-11, Daiso, coin laundry and buses to major attractions are all within 5min of walk.
- Isabelle (8/5): A pleasant stay thanks to a thoughtful host. - The host was very nice and gave us helpful information on how to get to the temples we wanted to visit. The small Japanese garden is lovely. I expected a traditional ryokan room with tatamis and futons. Our room was comfortable but without much character.
- Jared (8/5): Lovely first Ryoken and onsen - Host are lovely and welcoming. They made sure everything was taken care of and to my liking even reserving hot spring time for me after a long day in Kyoto. This was my first old ryokan style accommodation and it met every expectation and the aesthetics were on point! Location is a bit out of the way making for a hike to get to it. This can be a bonus since it is a dead quiet neighborhood easy to relax in. Walls are a bit thin so keep that in mind for other guest, rooms are also a bit dated in design but that comes with the old feel.
- guillaume (10/5): Expérience a conseiller - Un exellent sejour a Kyoto, notre Hôte était aux petits soins et maitrisait parfaitement l'anglais. 10/10
- Eve (6/5): Pleasant -
- Roger (10/5): - It was ver pleasant to stay in a Japanese style house. The host and hostess were very helpful
- Diego (10/5): Exceptional - Host super gentile e location magnifica.
- Srisnguanvilas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Norohaja (7/5): We were apprehensive staying at a ryokan but our curiosity paid off! - The hosts were very knowledgeable and helpful.
The location was good, bus stop was few blocks away.
We loved every single day breakfast. It was amazing . We were not confident to share toilets and bathrooms with guests but in the end everything went smoothly. Upstairs toilets were too tight for western customers. Wishing there were individual slippers in toilets and bathrooms .
- Günter (9/5): Beautiful privately run Japanese Guesthouse with friendly atmosphere. - This guesthouse is privately run by a lovely elderly couple. The landlord speaks English well and is happy to help and inform about his beautiful garden, Kyoto and its sights. The atmosphere of the house is very friendly and calm. That the toilets are shared might be for some not ideal.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were excellent and made us very welcome for our stay. The room was spacious and the beds where comfy.
- Alisa (9/5): Beautiful and relaxing place to stay. - The owner is a very wonderful and helpful old man, it was a delight to stay at his ryokan! You could reserve a japanese style bath for free, which was an amazing experience. The place is clean, quiet and relaxing. The heavy futon comforters made for very good nights sleep! This is not a complaint, but a feature of an old house guest need to prepare for: hot water can be limited. It only takes a short moment for there to be more hot water and we weren't phazed by it at all. But it's good to know.
- Douaud (10/5): Such a great place, the owners are very dédicated to make your stay a pleasant moment - Owners
- Jingping (8/5): Very good - Staff, style Little over price
- Roger (6/5): Pleasant - Good breakfast. Comfortable beds and quiet Small room. Shared bathroom. Host was a little much to deal with.
- Briony (10/5): Exceptional - Very tidy, quiet and peaceful. Cosy rooms and beds. Owners were very helpful and welcoming. Loved our stay!!
- Sofia (7/5): Good -
- Aurélien (10/5): Exceptional - The host is really perfect with people. He is nice and really kind. The hotel is beautiful and have a great location. Nothing
- Damjan (9/5): Superb - Really cool guest house, with a lovely garden and amazing hosts! Great hospitality, good suggestions to go around, free bikes to rent and nice area The bath area wasn't anything special and the room need a bit of renovation.
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caleb (10/5): From USA - Host spoke good english so very foreign friendly. Very traditional stay with traditional values
- Faye (8/5): We had a lovely, relaxing stay in this traditional inn. The hosts and beautiful gardens were the highlight - We had a lovely stay at Yadoya Nishijinso - the hosts are just wonderful and were so helpful and welcoming. It’s not centrally located but it’s really well connected by buses and close to some of the shrines/attractions in the suburbs. All the linen smelled lovely and we loved the pyjama kimonos ♥️ It would be nice to have more than one shower facility but it was always free when we needed in so it was all good!
- Linda (10/5): - Had a nice stay and the couple who owns the place were really nice and always helped us to plan how to get around to our daily activities.
- Amber (10/5): Amazing host, great room and a good location. - The host was so kind and was such a great help. He gave us loads of recommendations for Kyoto and helped us with any of our questions. The room was lovely and quaint, the perfect experience for a more traditional style Japanese inn. I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to have a true traditional experience.
The garden was lovely to view as well even though there were a lot of bugs about thanks to the season!
- Assaf (6/5): Pleasant -
- Drury (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful, traditional property. Clean, well cared for and beautiful. The host is attentive and very willing to help with any requests and advice on local spots you should take in. Absolutely 💯 will rebook here when I return to kyoto.
- Sangmin (1/5): I don't like Kyoto anymore - Booking recommended this accommodation, so I will never use Booking site again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great for what it is, a traditional ryokan. Most Westerners may not like the shared restroom and showers, however.
- Tracy (4/5): Interesting experience, but would go somewhere else next time. - Staying in a Roykan last minute was hard to find. I'm glad I could experience it, it was indeed peaceful. The staff was not always kind and accommodating. The bath was different than I expected.
- Anne (8/5): Very good - The host was very welcoming and made us feel at home in his own home. We had a nice patio/garden view. A very good place to experience Ryokan at an affordable price
- Yinmin (10/5): The owner went out of his way to accomodate some last minute changes on my part. -
- max (10/5): - Place was awesome! Owners were so nice and made our stay so easy.
- Maria (10/5): - Our hosts were very gracious and the property was clean and quiet. Highly recommend. Also helps to support local businesses while you travel.
- Giorgi (10/5): Cosy, comfortable Rooms, amazing host - The hotel was really good, very cozy atmosphere, very very nice owner. He was very helpful, informed me about Kyoto, what to see what transportation to use, how to save money the best way. Very helpful and accommodating.
Rooms were spacious, comfortable futon, free Matcha, AC working good. The corridors, indoor decorations and the garden looked amazing.
- Stephanie (9/5): Superb - Great traditional stay to experience a ryokan. Staff are lovely and let us drop luggage on first day before check in and let us keep it there on last day to explore still. Obviously it’s smaller and not a hotel so bathroom and toilet is shared however found it all part of the experience It is a little way out of the main areas to sight see so very residential and not overly close to train only bus stop is close by though.
- Smithipatt (8/5): Like home ryokan with traditional decorated room and tatami! - - Feel like home
- Tatami room and futon were so comfortable
- Nice gardens around the house
- Quiet and peaceful place
- Beautiful neighboorhood - not for the late nighter, shower room is limited to around 10-11 pm
- Anthony (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (10/5): Cozy comfortable atmosphere in a sleepy and well-kept ryokan with a sweet host couple. -
- Mohammed (7/5): Good -
- Hali (10/5): Great location, tranquil setting while still being close to the bus for exploring the city. - The property was a perfect getaway from the hustle a s bustle of the city. The room was comfortable and the garden was serene.
- Robert (1/5): Very disappointing. Would not recommend staying - The reception area was pleasant, and the presentation of the breakfast that we did receive was lovely. Additionally, the wife of the host was kind and accommodating, providing some relief from an otherwise disappointing experience. During our recent stay here, we encountered several issues that made our experience far from enjoyable. The most notable downside was the aggressive behavior of the host, who after accidentally forgetting to take our shoes off, insulted us in Japanese and refused to apologise
Despite appreciating that Ryokans are meant to be fairly basic, this ryokan really felt very much like a budget accommodation,. Privacy was virtually nonexistent, as we constantly felt under surveillance, with little opportunity for moments alone outside our room. Speaking of the room, it was basic (two twin beds that are not traditional) with just one pillow provided and no wardrobe space due to excess bedding.
Adding to the disappointment was the exorbitant price, with full payment demanded upon arrival rather than at check-out. The shared and cramped toilets were another inconvenience, as was the need to request permission to use the book shower. Throughout our stay, we felt patronized and micromanaged, treated more like children than valued guests. On our final night, the owner demanded that we return the key in the evening rather than when we checked out the next day like every other hotel which forced us to cut short our evening early
- Page (7/5): Comfortable but not quite what we were expecting. - The owners were friendly and kind to our kids. They’re an older couple and a bit more traditional than other places we’ve stayed in Japan, but they were always kind. The onsen was lovely. The place has operated for a long time and feels that way. It’s a bit like stepping back to a ryokan of 20 years ago - there’s a bit of furniture that could be updated. There was also a light on all night outside our room which made it a bit harder to go to sleep.
- Byrom (5/5): Passable -
