- Melanie (10/5): Pure luxury! - We booked this (and the restaurant) as a treat for finishing 220km or so of the Camino, and what a treat it was! The service was impeccable, the views spectacular and the rooms lovely. Top marks also go to the co-located cocktail bar. The pillows were too soft for my liking, so they really need a pillow menu, but it's such a minor complaint.

- Anja (10/5): - Modern and stylish hotel with exceptionally friendly staff. Everyone we encountered was helpful, accommodating, and truly went the extra mile. The rooms are spacious, all offering ocean views, and the spa treatment was both relaxing and enjoyable.
That said, two aspects could be improved. First, the cocktail program falls short of what you would expect from a hotel associated with a 3-star dining experience. Second, the room design and descriptions are misleading. The "Panoramic Deluxe" category is advertised as offering a wide, panoramic ocean view, and all photos on Expedia show that specific layout. However, not all "Panoramic Deluxe" rooms match this description. Some are simply a slightly larger version of the lower-tier "Double Horizon" category, without the true panoramic layout.
When we raised this concern, the response was that room configurations vary and no alternative "Panoramic Deluxe" room was available. This was especially disappointing given the +20% price difference. In reality, we received what could be described as a "Premium Double Horizon," offering only about 10m² more space than the regular version. This feels misleading and is not acceptable for a hotel of this caliber. The property should update its room categories with clearer sub-types and transparent descriptions to avoid future guest frustration.
- Rong (10/5): - Had a great time

- Takayo (10/5): -
- Lucía (10/5): Amazing - Everything. The staff. The restaurant. The amazing room and views Only good things to say….
- Nanna (10/5): Extraordinary - Exceptional experience breathtaking views, staff was amazing and everything felt so relaxing and cozy. We will be back
- Ivam (10/5): - Exclusive, awesome service and food
- Andrés (1/5): Dangerous facilities, unresponsive service, and no accountability—luxury in name only. - Nothing. During my stay, I experienced a serious safety hazard in the spa: part of the hydromassage system came apart while submerged, exposing internal components. I also suffered a burn from the steam room tap, which emits boiling water without any visible warning. The minibar in the room was not working. Most concerning was the cold and distant reaction from the staff and management—no assistance, no apology, no action. I left the hotel after one night and was still charged for the full stay.
- Jinbo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vilhjalmur (10/5): Supremely beautiful hotel and surroundings, wonderful food, great service - but expensive. - Beautifully designed hotel in stunning landscape with gorgeous views. Very friendly, helpful and personal service. The concierge staff went way beyond the call of duty to help us in every way. This hotel also holds the record for the quickest laundry service that we have ever experienced over decades of travel, almost defying the laws of physics. The 3 Michelin Star restaurant experience was out of this world. The original, older restaurant building is starting to need an upgrade, especially in comparison with the newer, super-elegant hotel building. But the only drawback of Hotel Akelarre worth mentioning is the pricing: at this level, they have some pretty serious competition, including some of the very best hotels in the world with super-professional service - and the small, boutique Akelarre is not quite able to compete on that playing field. But it makes up for a lot of the difference with genuine hospitality, personality and warmth.
- Samar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lesley (8/5): Very good -
- Beatrice (9/5): Great place if you want to get away from it all but still close enough to town. Great walking & view - I absolutely loved my room. Bathroom was lovely and bright. Not much water pressure in the shower! View spectacular and horses visiting the property below me. Bed was very comfortable and bedding like at home. Water pressure too low in shower. Didn't like that the pool / spa closed super early at 8 pm! Why?
Reception staff , especially a woman, who's name I forgot, not so friendly. Cold and snappy. Otherwise everyone was very helpful and nice.
- Gili (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing
- Abdulqader (8/5): Very good -
- Pierre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brano (10/5): Wonderful stay with unforgettable views and breakfast — but dinner fell short of expectations. - The rooms and overall design of this small 20-room hotel are simply outstanding. Every detail feels thought-through, perfectly executed, and the ambiance is both luxurious and warm. The staff were incredibly attentive and welcoming, making our stay feel truly special. And the breakfast? Easily one of the best we’ve had in a long time.
Unfortunately, the highly anticipated 3-Michelin-star restaurant was a letdown. While the staff were lovely and the menu looked very promising, the execution didn’t quite match our expectations. Many dishes, although visually impressive and using modern techniques, lacked depth of flavor. As frequent visitors to Michelin-starred restaurants, this experience felt surprisingly average. It’s hard to say this because the team was clearly trying their best — but this is of course a subjective opinion.
- Eduard (10/5): Super stay - Location, excellent service and Akkelare restaurant Not
- luiz guilherme (10/5): - Amazing experience!!!
- Susan (10/5): Extravagant stay - Absolutely amazing property on the hill with great view Staff was great. Spa wonderful. Restaurant top notch. Breakfast biggest selection we have EVER had. Sunset spot. Just know that you are out of town and will have to drive in every time you want to tour or eat in town, but underground parking in town was convenient once we figured out how to get to it.
- Naeun (10/5): - one of the best hotels I've ever stayed
- Janjida (9/5): Superb -
- Laurens (9/5): The best place to stay and eat in San Sebastian - Architecture of the building
Very friendly staff! They will help you with everything .
Beautiful food. Nothing
- Carlos (10/5): Memorable and Very Pleasant - restaurant personnel were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the food. the Mixologists at the outdoor bar are truly artists. The concierge was very responsive and extremely helpful. The front desk staff was very professional and responsive to our questions and our needs. But the room itself with the bathtub overlooking the ocean and the balconies were a pleasure. The resort itself is excellent, but can be difficult to find if you rely only on GPS. The resort should warn it's guest, in advance, that there is a route which is very hazardous AND Dangerous if driving through it at night.
- Zdravka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pranas (8/5): Very good -
- Jonny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacob (6/5): Pleasant - A lof of terraces but no sunbeds.
- FRANCOIS (10/5): - Amazing place. Special atmosphere.
- Gérard (10/5): Among the most beautiful hotel we have ever seen. - The hotel is absolutely magnificent with an amazing design and a breathtaking view. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, with a state of the art finish, and also offering the unique view on the garden and the sea. A sheer pleasure! The staff is welcoming, professional and kind. The bar outside is spectacular with a great choice of amazing cocktails. The breakfast was good but we were expecting more from a culinary standpoint particularly from an hotel with such a famous restaurant. The service and location were however excellent.
- Pooja (8/5): Lovely stay - Beautiful terrace and unique property Spa was smaller than expected and they didn’t come and help us with bags on arrival
- Radovan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabrielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Torsten Sven (10/5): - it is a very nice hotel with excellent service
- Julie (9/5): Very relaxing and peaceful. - The spacious room, sea view, comfortable bed and peacefulness Dinner was overpriced especially the vegetables. A shame the weather wasn’t good.
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional - Food was amazing as well as the location and long distance water views.
- Matthew (10/5): Great start to our honeymoon in San Sebastián! - A very stylish hotel, clean lines, minimalist architecture, hidden doors and super quiet and private during our stay in early June.
Very friendly staff all round.
If you have an EV car, there’s 3 type 2 chargers inside the underground car park for residents available free of charge. Pinxos tour booked via the hotel was over priced. I’d recommend doing this yourself. It’s easy enough to do.
- Abel (9/5): Superb - The outside common areas of the hotel were exceptionally beautiful. Amazing planting everywhere. Food was terrific. Staff were great.
- Wilma (10/5): Thank you! - Excellent service and location Loved the food, service and the location
- Peter (10/5): Fabulous hotel, just don’t book through booking.com dreadful company book direct - Fabulous, views, bedrooms staff Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is exceptional in its design and interiors. Service was impeccable. Hotel setting above the sea was quiet and peaceful. Room service menu is rather limited. A 3 star restaurant on the property was used by non hotel guests which diminished the tranquility of the hotel.
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Life of luxury - This place is amazing! Every room is designed so it is completely private, so you can have the curtains open on the entire glass wall in the bedroom and look out over the Bay of Biscay, and soak in the tub while inhaling the ocean air. You are practically outside. They really take care of you, here. They have a spa, and they are attached to the Akelarre Restaurant (3 Michelin stars) that started it all.
- Warren (8/5): Lovely property, pricing model all wrong - Views were amazing, especially the views from the bath! The pricing model for minibar and room service is way out of line, 25% surcharge for anything in the room!
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic - Food, location and the staff attentiveness Wellness facilities look and feel a little tired, although this was not the reason we stayed but it would have been nice if these facilities lived up to the rest of the hotel’s amenities
- Rene (9/5): A wonderful retreat - The rooms in this hotel are very spacious with a phenomenal sea view, comfortable furniture and spacious bathrooms. The hotel breakfast and lunch menus were excellent and the Spa facilities were also spacious and very well appointed. The staff was very freindly and helpful and the location is perfect for long walks on the coast. Free electric vehicle charging and a solid WiFi were also nice to have. The TVs are expensive B&O rubbish that take an eternity to even turn on and on which half the apps have already stopped running. For that money they could have bought two regular brand TVs per room and made sure there is also one in front of the bed instead of akwardly placed on a 45º swivel far off to the left of the bed. The mattress was a bit to hard for my taste, but sadly my request for a topper was rejected as apprently this 5* hotel didn't have any toppers. For a 7 night stay you'd think somebody might pop in to town and buy one... As for the 3* Michelin restaurant, I'd recommend skipping it, as it does not live up to the hype that star rating would suggest. Lastly, I'm also not sure a €300 per night credit card pre-authorisation was warranted, as the room was already paid a full two weeks in advance, but that may be because of the expensive TVs....
- Nick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ming (10/5): Simply excellent! - Beautiful view of the ocean and extremely great service by the staff especially Itziar who served us for breakfast. She is extremely detailed and recommended delicious items for our breakfast. Nothing

- Stavros (9/5): The top choice around San Sebastian - Ocean view great and well exploited by the architectural design. Proximity to town and countryside very appreciated. Personnel great -the concierge services in particular were outstanding. Rooms well appointed, ambience very pleasing, excellent sleep comfort. Quality of breakfast top, even if it was only a la carte -no buffet offered. Welcome snacks & bottle of wine in the rooms much appreciated. An outdoor swimming pool was missed by all of us. It's essential for summer holidays. We were not lucky enough to try the famous restaurant, but this is not the hotel's fault. Trying to find some "easy" food in the casual restaurant, we were surprised to find out that the entire menu was gourmet style, even if the restaurant did not really support such endeavours (space, ambience & style etc.) Value for money not great, but service and overall quality justify the elevated prices.
- Nikita (8/5): Great place for relax and hustle and bustle detox - Very stylish and perfectly done hotel The Michelin restaurant was not available for us, because was fully booked.
It will be very useful to have an option of reservation for the guests of the hotel.
It’s not hard to write a message for the guest, and ask for the reservation needed.
