Guest Reviews
- Patricia (6/5): - Yes, it was clean, but flat pillows, no toilet paper holder, no bathroom exhaust fan, no hangers.
- Lisette (8/5): - Clinton premium outlets is close by. Room was clean. Staff was nice. A basic motel, nothing fancy.
- Christine (10/5): - Very impressed. The hotel was absolutely what we needed. Very clean and well maintained.
- Margaret (6/5): Yuk - Room seemed clean until bed was turned down stain on sheets, no room service during stay.
- Mariann (10/5): - I was greeted Kindly upon arrival, it was quiet & clean.
- Karen (6/5): - Property was convenient to Hammanassett Beach state park, however, the check in process was less than I expected, the room was adequate, however, the bathroom toilet did not flush !! There was no one available to ask for help with that after we checked in at 9 pm.
- Peter (8/5): - Clean and convenient with all
Necessary amenities
- Cinthia (6/5): - Affordable place to stay. Beds were comfortable but it needs a better cleaning. Found hair in the toilet, an used soap by the bathtub and some hair tie by the bottom of the bed
- Verified traveler (2/5): Sketchy place - Unfortunately, I checked in and then checked right out. The beds were haphazardly made. The sheets were very rough and uncomfortable. The door did not have an inside security lock which was my main issue and there were people that looked like they were more like residents than people staying for the night. I told the office person my issue with the inside lock and she gave me some strange answer about people being crazy and not being able to keep the lock on the door. I don’t know what that meant but it was so sketchy and I felt so uncomfortable. The place was very dated, but The towels were clean though.
She did give me a refund for the second night, but told me the policy was that I didn’t cancel within 24 hours so the first night could not be refunded. I did show up so I kept my end of the bargain. I feel I should’ve gotten a full refund.
- Steven (10/5): - As always, when in this area of CT. I stay at the Lamplighter. Close to the highway, easy walking distance to numerous restaurants. Always very clean, everything works and i did notice the new beds in my room, which were super comfortable. Extremely nice rooms for the price, with fridge and microwave. Shower, instant hot water and plenty of it. I love staying at the Lamplighter.
- Ivelys (8/5): Very Clean and Quiet 👍 - It was only for 2 night stay
Very clean ,Great air conditioner, mini fridge near restaurant, stores, gas station and more. The area was very quiet and nice. The owner was very kind. I gave it a 4 stars because there was no room service no coffee maker or microwave. but other than that I will totally recommend it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was clean but dated. Room was very humid even with air condition.
- maryjo (2/5): - This place is a dump. You get what you pay for. Beware.
- pamela (8/5): - Would stay again.
- Ann Marie (8/5): - a minimalist's dream..nothing fancy just the basics..for $86 bucks id return..good air conditioning
- Patricia (10/5): - Lamplighter Motel is a nice stay. It has the basics required and they let you know at check in that they won't be cleaning your room during your stay. This was fine for us. Very clean, comfortable beds, basic bathroom and our room even had a small refrigerator. Room also has cable tv and the shower was great. The check in was easy and the lady at the desk was very nice. The price was great so if you're looking for high end or extra amenities stay somewhere else and pay for that. This was perfect for our two night stay and we would stay again. Very happy with our stay at Lamplighter.
- John (2/5): Horrible hotel - Cheap hotel is what it is yet i feel i overpaid should be forty dollars max a night. Rundown, outdated,no coffee maker or coffee on grounds. Sub par room shower sucked took 15 min just too figure out hot lever was installed improperly. Peraon at desk was curt and unfriendly.
- kent (10/5): - the place is kept clean the room is pretty basic price on room was okay near or not far from major attractions
- Vicki (10/5): - Quiet little place in a great location.
- Russell (8/5): - I t was exactly what I expected for the price
- Alicia (4/5): - It was ok - the bathroom smelled badly. The sink and the tub water didnt go down - no microwave- no coffee in the room.
- George (8/5): - It's a great location for Madison, Guilford etc at much more economical prices. Close to stores, restraints etc.
- John (8/5): - Very clean and friendly staff. Very reasonable rates
- Karie (8/5): - safe area, central to shoreline activities
- Sandra (2/5): - Rudeness by am employee or owner is unacceptable.
- Frederick M. (10/5): - Amazing hospitality, and tranquil location
- Kelley (6/5): - I just wish the housekeeping would have come in and gave me fresh towels and sheets at least once. I stayed 5 nights, 5 days and to ask for a blanket was like I was bothering. And no curtains in the bathroom!
- Steven (10/5): - Close to the highway, close to restaurants, staff always pleasant. comfortable bed.
Downside, only one towel in the room
- Melissa (8/5): - The motel was easily accessible, clean, comfortable and near dining options. Exactly what we needed.
- J (6/5): - Two words: spider shower
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quite and Clean - No Frills - The morning we were to start our trip, we had an emergency delay. We arrived at the hotel about 5 hours later than we had expected. They called us to reconfirm our stay. They were very pleasant and helpful.
- Lynette (6/5): - Want worth the price
- MistyAnn (2/5): Horrible all around broken bed - Very dirty. Women kicked door in at 11. Was walking out door and it flew open. Lady screaming no online rate. You pay my rate.
- Belen (6/5): - A place to sleep.
- Nicholas (4/5): - It was fine. Just a very old motel with little renovation.
- Terence (10/5): - The Lamplighter Motel in Clinton, Connecticut, is a no-frills, budget-friendly accommodation ideal for short stays. Located conveniently near local attractions and the shoreline, it provides easy access to Clinton's charming coastal experiences. The rooms are basic but clean, with essential amenities like Wi-Fi and air conditioning. While it lacks some of the modern conveniences found in larger chains, the affordable pricing makes it a suitable choice for travelers looking for an economical option. The staff is generally friendly and helpful, contributing to a satisfactory stay.
- michael (2/5): - Very dirty, ripped sheets, missing knobs, very old, smells awful. Would not recommend staying here at any price.
- Nina R. (8/5): - Fine for an overnight. No fan in the bathroom. No toilet paper holder. Shower had great pressure, but tub was at least 4-6 inches higher than normal. Only 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel per person.
- Christopher (6/5): - No WiFi in the room . 2 electrical outlets
- Cheryl (10/5): - Shopping
- Steven (10/5): - Easy check in, and the lady at the desk was so very nice. We had the same room as last year. The air conditioner works very well, and plenty of hot water in the shower. Room was very clean, but still no curtain in the bathroom window, as was last year, also. Next year, I'm definitely bringing one, lol.
- Jamar (10/5): - Simple and affordable in a great location.
- John (10/5): - I enjoyed staying here. It's a small, simple place. It's very quiet. We arrived late because we decided last minute to stay overnight. I used the phone outside of the door to alert the clerk that I was there to check in. The owners live onsite. I believe I woke her up. I felt bad. She could not have been nicer. It was a great experience. I would not only recommend it, I will be staying there again.
- KELLY (8/5): - great place for what we wanted..no frills but we didnt expect any..clean room and comfortable bed
- Joseph (2/5): - Not kid friendly, there was spiders in the shower. Very run down shower. The water only reached my chest and had to bend down to wash my hair. Floors were beyond dirty my feet and kids feet were black after a few minutes. Ac was nice tho, bed was hard as a brick. Pillows and towels were nice. Wont be returning
- James (8/5): - If you’re looking for in inexpensive, no frills, motel, Lamplighter Motel is about as good as you’ll find.
- Mary Kate (6/5): - A no frills but convenient place to stay.
- Melanie (8/5): - Modern and clean interior. Outside neighborhood quiet. Good place for a great rate.
- Andréanne (4/5): - very dirty
- Heather Cullen (10/5): - Affordable
- Susan (2/5): - Customer service was horrible. Lady at the desk was miserable human
- Ronald (10/5): Very Nice For The Price. - My family and I stayed at the Lamplighter Motel in Clinton, Connecticut, for one night on Friday, October 20, 2023. Despite being an older establishment, the motel is well-maintained, clean, and comfortable. The room, though small, was cozy and well-kept, reflecting the care and attention given to the property.
The staff was friendly, and both check-in and check-out processes were quick and efficient. We also appreciated the ease of parking. The motel's affordability was a pleasant surprise, offering excellent value for money.
The location of the motel is convenient, situated in the charming town of Clinton, which added to our overall positive experience. Based on our stay, we would highly recommend the Lamplighter Motel for its combination of comfort, value, and excellent location.
- Peter (6/5): - You get what you pay for. Not terrible but not amazing either.
- sophia (6/5): - A quiet palce.
- Kayce (6/5): - It was clean and met our budget, but it truly needs some repairs done.
- Christian (2/5): Stay somewhere else - It’s a dumpy little motel. No iron, hair dryer, shampoo. It old, dirty and falling apart.
Good water pressure though.
- Andrew (6/5): - Was good for a quick trip and be able to get some rest.
- Diane R (8/5): Happy choice - Very good value. Comfortable and quiet.
- James (8/5): - Older property but clean and friendly staff.
- John (2/5): - Liked location.
Didn't like:
Ground floor room, yet no blinds or curtains on bathroom window. Front window latches broken, anyone could slide window and climb in. No deadlock on front door, nor chain. Very poor repair for obvious damage to walls and doors. Not worth the price.
- Jean Facky (10/5): - I lke every single services thank you appreciate it.
- Dale (10/5): - Fine old motel. Clean and quite.
- carol (2/5): - this place is disquisting
- Josephine (10/5): - Very clean very comfortable
Would stay again
- Steven (8/5): Best and Most reasonable place in South central CT - This is the 2nd year I've stayed at the Lamplighter. Still reasonably priced, still with a microwave and fridge, awesome air conditioner, beds were comfortable, shower worked great with plenty of hot water. Mostly a clean room, for some reason the bathroom windowsill had been cleaned in ages and the bathroom window didnt have a curtain. A back deck could look right in. Will certainly return and will make sure i bring a curtain, next time.
- Leigh (6/5): - This is a 1950's motel that has been painted and repainted. This a bare minimum facility, but you can get a good night's sleep (price at $113 is high).
The bed was good, and the air conditioning worked (barely). No breakfast.
However, if you can see past these things, it was a good night's sleep, no bedbugs.
Limited interface with the staff (sign in and given a key), On check in; provided information, handed a key and was told, when you leave, put it in the mailbox.
While they had internet, I was not able to connect.
The TV was a 720p so the shows from the standard High-res internet were blurry. But you can still enjoy the blurry shows.
Bottom line, good sleep, overpriced for what you get, no services.
- Wayne (2/5): - My estimate for the age of this property is somewhere between 50 to 70 years. We noticed that a popcorn ceiling was added circa 1970. Otherwise no improvements have been made. The Door to is exposed to the outside and could easily be opened with a credit card. It was also loosely installed. The bed lacked adequate padding material. We decided to check out immediately and return home. There was no one at the front desk. So we forfeited the night's room charge.
- Claire (2/5): - Our room was literally filthy. Dust on everything, large cobwebs, dirty floors, bathroom with hair and dirt, and the sink was clogged. The sheets and blanket were short and the comforter and curtains were from the 70's and curtains falling off. It was appauling! I had to buy clorax wipes to clean the whole place inorder to stay there!!
- Michael (4/5): - Convenient location. Towels had big holes in them?
- Dave (10/5): - Quality accommodations at an affordable price.
- James (6/5): - The carpets need cleaning and the staff was not particularly friendly. I even had to ask to have water boiled, since nothing was available in the room. The room was crowded, but fortunately, we just stayed one night.
- Gerard (4/5): - Toilet would not flush properly. Bed was lumpy. Towels were very coarse. Room looked like it hasn’t been updated since the 70s.
- MATTHEW (2/5): - WORST-MOTEL-EVER!!!
*Spotted 2 bedbugs, god knows how many more there were.
*Toilet overflowed just from us doing a test flush. Told the manager and was shown a plunger sitting in a bucket outside.
*Shower went from freezing cold to scalding hot and the pressure went from a trickle to a prison riot blast.
*Manger called room at 10:45am and told us we had to be out by 11am. I was like, don't worry, we won't be here a SECOND more than we have to.
Overall, we should have just slept in our car.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! :(
- David (6/5): - Typical beach motel. Had fridge but no coffee maker or microwave. Table with 2 chairs and 1 nite stand. Woodlike floor. Ok for money. Only saw staff on check in. Stayed 2 nite. Was there for funeral, so didnt need to be in room longing
- Thomas (10/5): Good value for basic room. - A good location, basic room, clean, comfortable, not fancy. Value for what you get, and again, close to the Sound, shops, etc.
- Robin (8/5): - It seems inconsequential but spending $100 for a room that doesn’t even have a toilet paper roll holder is a bit much. Very basic amenities.
- Paul (6/5): - Just needed a bed and a shower and that's what I got. This is a no fluff motel, clean bedding, clean towels, clean bathroom, local cable TV and a fridge. Inexpensive, no frills and a great location for traveling the shoreline. Easy check in and out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic but all good at the vintage Lamplighter! - bare bones beach motel. i liked it but i was there for only one night. they called me - on the room's landline! - half hour before checkout as a courtesy which i didn't pay for. That was nice as i would've overslept. downside - it was cold even with the heat blasting. glad for the 2 beds for the extra blankets.
- Michael (6/5): - Toilet stopped up. Security chain attached only to moulding, which had detached from door frame. Towels small and not very absorbent, therefore not enough of them. Shower weak.
Bed fairly comfortable and linens were cean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): From NJ - It is a no frills motel that is very affordable. You can’t expect too much. I would stay again.
- Tera (4/5): - Run down
- Steven (10/5): A Hidden Find for this Area - First time at the Lamplighter, will definitely stay again next year, close to the venue i was vending at, close to highway. 2 excellent restaurants within a minute walk. Very comfortable beds, good shower, everything was working. Friendly staff, clean rooms, microwave and fridge, and very reasonable price, close to the ocean
- Jean (6/5): - Good shower but no deadbolt on the door. Tub is exceptionally high off the floor without grab bars. Soap melts.
- Kelsey (6/5): - You get what you pay for
Good for a night or two
- Paul (2/5): - Gross. Owner is awful. Homeless live there as well. There was 4 people living in a one room next to me who where clearly on some government program and living there. Don’t stay here. Room had mold and was gross. Owner wouldn’t clean room on extended stay. Sheets stunk.
- Paul (2/5): - Just disgusting, mold, dirty, so unsanitary. Gross.
- Marian (6/5): - No microwave . bathroom window was open and no curtain . I could not reach the rack to hang my clothes, it was too high.
- Xumin (8/5): Cheap, sometimes is not worth of it - Price quality, makes sense, people walking around to much,
- Andrew (8/5): - Nice place for the price. Clean and convenient no frills.
- Geoffrey (6/5): - Room condition "worn" but everything worked. Good value. Big bed. Staff friendly
- Javier (6/5): a place to rest your head - conveniently located in the heart of Westbrook and Clinton, where there are great beaches in great restaurants however, it is a very basic room was outdated furniture and uncomfortable mattresses. Furthermore, bringing your own soap, as daily give you a very small travel bar, and there is no shampoo supplied.
- Patrick (8/5): - The price was great and can’t be beat, but the eco-fluorescent lights in the room were disgusting and should be softer. The front staff at Checkin was very hard to understand and a little rude. There was no mini shampoo, and the pillows were mushy and terrible. But, the place was near the beach and shopping in town, which I needed, and they had room availability. So overall, it served my purpose. If they fix the things mentioned above, it would be great. I’ll be going back to the Clinton Motel next time, which is nicer and had a pool for only 10 dollars a night more.
- Stephen (8/5): Good Basic Accommodations - Basic accommodations.. Nothing fancy.. Bathrooms were updated and the rooms were cleaned. A nice fridge and a quiet working AC unit.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The plumbing is outdated and not up to code. Had sewer flies in our room. Showed the flies to the owner but she said that they were coming in from the outside and then offered some bug spray. The sheets had stains and the carpet had not been vacuumed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Most disgusting place I’ve ever had the misfortune of wasting my money on..
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It is being run cheaply, the daily house keeping is discontinued, be ready to go to the office for everything. Instead of saying the internet dose not work in 101 i was told they were working on the lines. over all we wont be staying there again.
- Bobby (8/5): - Worked out perfect for the reason I was down that way
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The owner refused to allow me to check in. Was nasty insisted on paying twice for the room
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very basic
Very clean
Very modest
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This was the
