Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): The Perfect Experience in Okuhida - This family-run ryokan is located in Nakao Kogen inside the Okuhida Onsen area. We had a great time staying with Nakashimakan and enjoyed the food, outdoor onsen and warm hospitality. The owners offered to pick us up at the bus station (we took Nohi bus from Takayama and got off at station H61) before check-in and drove us to Shinhotaka Ropeway after check-out. The home-made miso source at dinner and breakfast was amazing. The family did their best to explain various things to us in English and we were grateful for their help and true Japanese hospitality. Would recommend this to travelers seeking a unique experience in the high mountains of Okuhida.
- Montserrat (10/5): - Increible, nos encantó y ha dejado muy alto el listón para el resto del viaje. La familia que lleva el hotel son increíblemente agradables y acogedores, repetiríamos.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A real gem. I wish I’d stayed longer. - Just the very best service you could hope for. Imacutetly clean, but I’d go for a two tier futon next time, just having one mattress wa a fraction uncomfortable. The breakfast was amazing. Don’t miss out. The hot spring was all ours for the entire stay. The small restaurant just up the hill, 3 min walk was ok.
- Nicola (10/5): Fantastic stay, highly recommended to any visitor - This is a magical little Ryokan in the mountains! Several onsen options available - private, inside, outside, mixed sex, single sex. The outside onsen have fantastic views of the mountains and forests, and really feel like they're in the middle of nature.
The b&b/ryokan is very clean and in the traditional style which is a wonderful experience. The family had a pot of tea ready when we arrived and coffee and a homemade biscuit when we left (the daughter is a pastry chef trained in Italy!). The breakfast was really delicious. The beds are comfy and warm.
The best part is the family running it who are fantastic! They were very helpful, kind, and friendly. We felt so welcomed and at home, it was lovely. We felt like we were visiting friends and it has been the highlight of our trip.
Access is very easy - direct bus from Takayama or two buses from Matsumoto. There's a bus a 15 mins walk away every hour or a bus stop about 5 mins away every 3 hours. Lots of walks in the area, the shinhodaka ropeway for the views, public and private onsen, open air hot spring footbaths, nature etc and not too touristy. Fab place.
