Guest Reviews
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Anthea (1/5): - I wasn’t allowed to collect keys due to another guest having a booking they didn’t cancel
- yvonne (9/5): -
- Claudia (3/5): Will be finding somewhere else to stay next time visiting Leigh Creek - Leigh Creek - quiet town.
The cabins are close to the oval/playground and walking distance to anything around town. On arrival to reception the welcome was cold. No further information was given i.e check out time.
Free wifi was advertised in the cabin booking, later discovered there is only free wifi in the reception (during opening hours) no free wifi in the rooms.
My 10 week old baby requires wifi for her sleep monitor, the owners when I rang didnt care and continued to tell me "free wifi is only in reception, but reception is now closed."
I explained what it was for, they did not care.
Towels and linen is only provided once a week. We were given only 2 towels, a floor towel and a hand towel. No spares.
No handsoap provided and no facewasher.
Shower curtain didnt do well at keeping the water in, so water drenched the only provided floor towel.
Exhaust fan doesnt work.
Air conditioner - extremely EXTREMELY loud!
QR codes on the walls stating more information and restaurant menu, neither QR codes worked. I believe these were remaining from previous owners.
Teabags were not single individually wrapped, they were unwrapped - cannot be certain if they're safe for consumption.
Emergency evacuation map on the back of the door is non-compliant.
The cabin is in need for a much needed update.
Wasnt inviting whatsoever.
However, grateful it provided a roof over our head and a bed to sleep in, regardless of how uncomfortable and unwelcoming.
Very overpriced!!
Original locals of Leigh Creek were extemely lovely, outisde of the resort.
I wonder if the locals took over, how much better the resort would be!

- Deb (7/5): -
- Keryn (7/5): -
- Joel (10/5): -
- Teraez (4/5): -
- Joanne (8/5): Great - Enjoyed the stay...nice and quiet area where the cabins were.
relaxing :-)
- Sonny (3/5): stayed 3 nights had no tv at all advised reception they moved us had tv but didnt work advised again - not much most of it
- Liam (10/5): -
- Judith (10/5): Highly recommend this place as a comfortable and convenient place to stay while travelling through. - We didn't have breakfast this time round. But we had dinner there both nights which was really nice. We liked everything about our stay.
- Pobby (10/5): -
- Anne (9/5): I enjoyed my stay very much, The evening meal at the restaurant was just right, delicious. - I had breakfast in cabin Even though TV operation instructions were followd I couldn't get the TV to work in my cabin
The hot water tap in kitchen didn't have its turning knob attached,
- Margaret (8/5): Relaxed quiet - Peacefulness Hand rails needed for steps into unit 4. Hard for 80 year olds to carry luggage in.
- John (8/5): -
- Lee (7/5): -
- Timothy (6/5): - The meal at the restaurant!
The shower.
Great hosts Oldish and tired unit.
Someone needs to buy plastic caps for the chair legs so they don't cut up the carpet and make a terrible mess of it. But overall the accommodation did the job. A challenging environment to run a sustainable business.
- stephen (8/5): -
- Bronwyn (9/5): Great time - Excellent service and nice place to stay.
- Kylie (8/5): -
- Gaeyle (4/5): - Advertised wifi not available and no compensation. Air con old and very noisy.
- Edward (8/5): -
- Kay (5/5): - We had dinner at the hotel dinning room. All meals were cold and poorly presented and when wait staff were informed there was no feedback. Facilities were very tired, and I do realise the whole town is suffering a down turn.
- Jonathan (8/5): Quiet clean and comfortable - Nicely spread out and quiet location
- Julie (8/5): Best in town! - This was a good location for our tripping into the Flinders Ranges. We drove to Arkaroola for a day drive. The township has few facilities but the 'resort' served meals. The cabin was basic but adequate for our needs. The cabin was basic. Parking was not available next to our accommodation and we had to carry our luggage and food across the grounds. There were steps up to the cabin which proved a little difficult.
- Jodie (7/5): A good stop as you venture into the Outback - A good stop as you head into the Outback of SA. Room was spacious enough. Easy stroll up to the small tavern for dinner and to watch the footy for the afternoon. Pizza night was not too bad ! Was a little dated and some items felt dirty (kettle ) TV wouldn’t pick up channels (said it was tuned but screen stayed black).
- Narendra (2/5): HORRIBLE. - THERE IS NOT A SINGLE REDEEMIMG QUALITY. AVOID IF YOU CAN DIRTY AND WET LINEN, DIRTY ROOM, BELOW AVERAGE FOOD.
NO SERVICE AND OVER PRICED.
- Douglas (8/5): -
- Arthur (5/5): Worked out ok and the counter meal and cool drink made it all ok - A welcome place to rest after a long day on the road. Booked a room with three single beds to suit our party but it hadn’t been made ready so they put us in to two adjoining units and charged us an extra $20 for their mistake.
We learnt the next day that they are under new management and still learning the ropes.
- David (3/5): - Modern looking resort, though rooms showed their age. Rooms were in major need of maintenance. Bed mattress had old springs on broken slates, taps were leaking, hybrid floor boards were coming apart and easy to trip over, no blinds on some windows, no door on cupboards, no sound insulationfrom the next room, etc.
Staff seem to be paid by the hour, with no incentiveto be helpful.
Andthen there are no signs for where to check in ( which turned out to be adjacent to the pub)..
- Chris Whiteside OAM (8/5): - Staff were great - the cabin was a bit tired but centrally located
- Andrew (8/5): Great location and a very pleasant surprise. - The cabins have a kitchen, a sitting and a bed area with a separate bathroom. The kitchen has a microwave, oven, cooktop and fridge. Leigh Creek is an ex-mining town but still has a supermarket, post office, coffee shop and bar/restaurant and is well situated to explore the Northern Flinders Ranges and National Park. The cabins are a little dated and could do with a little renovation, but they are still very comfortable.
- Heather (7/5): - Room was clean and well-equipped.
All staff were very nice. Two very disappointing dinners. We understand that outback places are disadvantaged, but the food could be better. Maybe the chef was away....
- Vera (7/5): - Good location, handy to town centre and other facilities (easy walk). We enjoyed the evening meals in the restaurant
- Cheryl (7/5): - The bed was very comfortable.
The rooms are looking abit tired.
It is a shame that a lot of the facilities are closed.
- Anne (7/5): -
- SOPHIE (6/5): - Le lieu, la possibilité de dîner en arrivant Un peu spartiate mais c‘est le bush !
- Mathews (8/5): -
- Laurie (8/5): Very good -
- Nicholas (8/5): I recommend Leigh Creek over the old-style hotels along the paved highway (B83). - The motel room (upper level) is a little spartan, but comfortable for one seeking to escape the rain after more than a month camping. All of Leigh Creek, sadly, is looking worse for wear. I understand that following closure of the mine, the entire operation is marginally economic.
- Linda (7/5): Good position for the Flinders Ranges. - Pleasant and convenient place to stay for the Flinders Ranges. Dated and could do with a makeover. Very hard to find with no signage for the resort.
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Rodney (8/5): Very good -
- Christina (10/5): Indian cuisine in this outback location was of excellent standard - Room clean and tidy and had all the facilities we required. Great shower. The restaurant meal was excellent - compliments to the chef!
- Helen (5/5): Passable -
- Michelle (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dunbar (7/5): Good -
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Adrian (8/5): A great night ready for for the next challenging day - Great customer service
Helpful local knowledge
Tidy riom Double bed was to hard for both of us
Lost water pressure randomly
Seem to be low on kitchenware for 5 people
- Trevor (9/5): Leigh Creek is in the outback, and it is an awesome place to stay. - This was the second stay. The other being 2 days before. The rooms? Spot on! Close together, which was awesome for our single lady friend travelling with us. And the meal? Bloody ripper! Better than before by quite a bit. On this occasion, nothing!!!!!
- Kirsty (9/5): Very comfortable stay with excellent staff. - The location suited our needs after a long driving day. The staff were very helpful and the room met our expectations and was very clean. While a bit old it was freshly painted and provided all we needed and wanted. All good
- Nancy (8/5): Good facilities - We booked a family cabin for 2 adults & 2 teenagers.
Good amenities & close to all town services. Bed too short for a 186 cm teenager.
- Rebecca (4/5): Disappointing -
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Megan (2/5): I booked for nights and left after one night. Life is too short to stay in a depressing dump. - The road out. The lighting was inadequate and depressing. The air-conditioner made the sound of a jet engine and produced little heat - having used all of the electricity making noise. The cupboard door under the sink has a hinge missing. The advertising sticker for an explosives company on the bathroom cabinet door was a nice touch. The fridge revelled in a one star rating. The sign by the light switch asked the visitor to be considerate of the environment, which is just as well as the proprietor obviously couldn’t give a fig.
- Roland (5/5): Passable -
- Josie (8/5): A good stay - The room was a decent size and the staff were very accommodating of our late arrival. As others have mentioned, the heat pumps are and bit old and noisy so it's hard to have it on overnight when you're sleeping.
- Brutus_the_warrior (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (7/5): Good -
- Jones (5/5): Definitely not a resort. - Clean. Well equipped kitchen. Good water pressure. Good hot water. Helpful staff Terrible signage. We turned off the highway, took first Blackhawk road sign, my maps took a little work to reorientate, still struggled to find entrance. No proper night lighting. Got directions to cabin. Could not find it. Had to go back to reception. No parking beside cabin. Had to lump bags up cracked cement path. Cabin old, dusty windows, dust & stains in cutlery drawers, No shampoo or conditioner supplied. Thin towels, Old stove. Noisy aircon. Could not sleep with it on. Only 1 spare blanket, but 2 beds.
Definitely not resort standard.
- Janet (7/5): Comfortable - Had everything we needed Shower floor needs scrubbing
- Janine (5/5): Passable - Good location for resupply and clean-up. Reverse cycle air conditioner extremely old and VERY noisy. So much so we had to turn it off to sleep...in July. It got very cold.
Walls paper thin so we could hear every noise from next door rooms.
Minimal cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.
- Carole (5/5): Terribly disappointing. The worse in all my recent travels - Not much Firstly finding the office was confusing,
Then the manager couldn’t find our booking and the booking wasn’t correct
The worse thing was how dangerous the steps that enter the cabin had no handrail then once inside the TV set and air conditioner were over the head of the bed
The AC was very noisy so we couldn’t use it consequently the room was very cold and there were only one blanket each no doonas!
- Trevor (7/5): We came, we learnt, we came back informed. - On our second booking the rooms were close together, and that was better, but the rooms are hardly "resort"?? Miners cabins with a touch up!! The first visit to the dining room, very average "battered fish", but we learnt, and the second time the meals were great.(Choices were different) Staff were all good, and very suitable to a "Country Resort"!!! Note the difference?? It gives room to move. Leigh Creek was a first and last stop to a Marree/Farina visit, and did the trick, and you know, there is no choice!! Would I do it again? Yes, but better informed. Trevor Manning OAM. I said it in the previous review.
- Allan (4/5): Everything other than the room we had was excellent. - The room is straight out of the 1980's, the bed was terrible, same for the pillows, the blind didn't work unless I put the chair on the blind to hold it down on the floor and there was an old window rattler AC in the wall which sounded like an Airbus taking off.
TV didn't work, but not for the lack of trying everything to get reception and a picture.
There was no hot water in the hand basin in the bathroom and there was a cockroach on the ceiling above the bed when we arrived.
"The LAST Resort" seems to be a more apt description.
Maybe it's not that bad? and we just expect too much for our money!
I understand the new proprietors have now taken over and are keen to update the place so hopefully things will improve.
Kind regards
- Jason (6/5): Pleasant -
- Garry (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (10/5): Leigh Creek Stay0 - The room was dated but clean. Plenty of room to move around. The staff at the Bar and Grill were really friendly. Good spot to stay and explore Garina and Marree. I Nothing.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Don (3/5): Disappointing - We needed to stay in Leigh Creek and this was the only option. No phone or internet in the room. No hand towels Air conditioner was noisy.
We paid extra for a 'deluxe' room, and this was a very ordinary room. Almost $ 200 per night was simply a rip-off. No wonder they had very few people staying there.
- Ian (7/5): Good - TV non functional
- Belinda (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kym (8/5): Very good -
- Ellen (8/5): Very good -
- Ruby (6/5): Pleasant -

- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Brivulis (8/5): Very good -
- Garry (8/5): Very good -
- Joerg (8/5): Very good -
- Brett (1/5): Avoid - Absolutely nothing
- Stuart (5/5): Passable -
- Barry (7/5): short but good -
- Jessica (2/5): Very poor -
- Felicity (10/5): Lovely oasis in the desert. Very well price and tasty food. - Very friendly staff. Interesting history. Nothing. All good.
- Patrick (9/5): Superb -
- Wandell (6/5): Limited choices in this location, but pleasant enough - Very quiet place and nice atmosphere The rooms are a little dated. I wasnt informed about the breakfast at check in as you need to book in advance. There was no manual with facilities and services in the room.
- Michael (7/5): Leigh Creek - what's next? - Leigh Creek is a very strange place. Although the town is only 40 years old and is lovely to look at - there is no-one here anymore. The population is below 100 although the town itself was built for thousands. It almost feels like a ghost town, but the place is spotless and there is obviously a lot of civil pride about, just no people. Our stay was enjoyable. Strange but.
- Sylvie (8/5): Very good - The room was comfortable, it was quiet, the staff were friendly and the restaurant was good quality. The shower support was not stable and the furniture a little old.
- Kaye (4/5): Disappointing -
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phil (7/5): Reasonably happy - Location Decor a bit tired. No internet connection
- Jimi (7/5): Good -
- Josie (9/5): Superb - Exploring the town and surrounds. Admiring all the amazing bird life Nil
- Justin (4/5): Don't bother unless desperate - Size of room. Most everything. Dirty, run down, looked like nobody cared. No shower curtain, no wash cloths, no tea towels, 1 fork, dirty cutlery tray, bugs crawling around inside, np wardrobe of any description, it goes on.
