• Sarah (9/5): A lovely ryokan - A lovely ryokan right near Zenkoji Temple. You can take a bus up from Nagano station and then walk a few minutes to the ryokan. The room was traditional with space for two beds and a small table. Tea and snacks were provided in the room. We had a private bathroom and shower. The onsen is lovely with space for 3-4 people it was not busy at all while we were there. We would definitely stay here again.

• Alison (9/5): Stayed one night here and loved Nagano, this ryokan is in a perfect spot - The ryokan is in a fantastic spot close to Zenkoji and some other smaller temples. The staff were lovely and the room and communal areas were spotless. Be prepared for futons laid directly on to the tatami which can feel rather hard if you aren't used to it.

La descrizione indica bagno in comune ma la stanza ha comunque un lavandino ed i servizi mentre la zona onsen è in comune ed è sempre un piacere, per me poterla utilizzare. Tra l'altro sono sempre capitata quando era vuota. Ho prenotato la cena per la prima sera ed era veramente deliziosa. La consiglio anche perchè la zona, pur essendo molto bella, la sera si svuota e restano poche opzioni per mangiare fuori, benchè alcune eccellenti. La zona più vitale, è quella intorno alla stazione che è a circa 30 minuti a piedi o 10 di autubus. Tuttavia il Zenkoji la sera è veramente magico ed è stato un vero piacere soggiornare qui. Personale gentilissimo, molto discreto. Una bellissima esperienza. Purtroppo per me futon e cuscino erano troppo duri, per dormire ho sofferto un pò.

Huge multicourse, breakfast and dinner served in a classic environment with lovely quiet music in the background. The location could not be better. It is in a historic building associated with the shrine. There was nothing not to like about this exquisite experience
• Veerle (8/5): Lovely ryokan on Zenkoji's doorstep - Lovely Japanese room on the doorstep of Zenkoji. Breakfast and dinner were freshly prepared with local ingredients. The onsen was very relaxing. Although the hosts were very friendly, they were a little too punctual. I had reserved dinner for 6pm and at 6pm on the dot they came to fetch me for dinner, which I found a little pushy.
• Jung Kit-dean (10/5): Japanische Tradition erleben - Die Lage ist außergewöhnlich zum Shrein. Wunderbar, um auch am Nachmittag in der Fußgängerzone zu schlendern. Man ist mitten im Geschehen. Bis zum Bahnhof Nagano Station ist es auch nicht weit. Man kann zu Fuß laufen, ca. 30 Minuten, oder steigt in einen der vielen Busse, die zum Bahnhof fahren. Das Frühstück war erstklassig. Ganz traditionell japanisch, sehr schmackhaft. Das Personal war unglaublich aufmerksam und sehr hilfsbereit bei Fragen. Hier gibt es nichts.

• Bonnie (10/5): I highly recommend Jizokan Matsuya Ryokan! - What an amazing place to stay! This was my first time in Nagano, and I couldn't have had better accommodations! I was traveling with a friend and her daughter, and our room was large, comfortable, and had room for all our luggage. The staff was lovely, so helpful and kind. We had a car, and the parking was easy to access - we didn't have any trouble finding a parking spot. The breakfasts were really terrific, traditional Japanese and yummy! We had dinner one night and it was terrific as well. I would highly recommend this Ryokan for anyone travelling to Nagano! Watching our host hauling our luggage up the stairs to our room (though he did so effortlessly).

The food was a great experience - beautifully presented and served in our private dining room - and they always made an extra effort for our little baby. Nothing - it was really excellent.

• Yoko (10/5): 良かったです！ - 善光寺から本当に近い。お朝事の行き帰りに便利でした。前日に購入した券があるか聞かれ、なぜと思ったら！お朝事では本堂の中まで入りますがその際には拝観券が必要です。有効期間は2日なので前日の券を見せればOKとのこと。聞いておいて良かった！こういったところが親切で良いですね。 良くないと言うわけでは無いですが、内部の構造が複雑に感じ、少し迷いました笑

The ryokan is clean, simple and had a bathhouse. The dinner there is very good and definitely worth it. Nothing!

• Maria (10/5): So glad we stopped here - Loved the opportunity to stay in a Ryokan and use the in-house Onsen. (Seperate ones for ladies/gentlemen. Tattoo friendly) They supplied some traditional basic costume to wear. The location was extremely close to the temple and in a street full of heritage type buildings. Beautiful. You can have a traditional Japanese meal here, however we didn’t take up this opportunity as they were unable to accommodate vegan-so sorry to miss that.

• Robert (10/5): Traditional Ryokan stay with great pricing and perfect location - Location and price is unbeatable. Located right down the street from the Zenko-ji, and on a street closed to traffic with lots of shops and small sweet shops. (There was this place BENIBENI, a few stores down from our ryokan that served these decadent apple pies that we still think about. Nagano area, due to the altitude is known for their apples). Other than sweet shops lots of other restaurants and soba noodle places within walking distance. (We went to this place Togakure Tsukiya that had awesome food, great service). We were lucky to be in Nagano when they had the lantern festival and the Zenko-Ji all lit up which was amazing to see. There is a Starbucks right across the street from the Ryokan for those who need the caffeine kick in the morning. It was easy to get to from Nagano station by bus. It is pretty much a straight shot from the train station. Walkable but a a bit of a longer walk. We stayed in the room with the private bathroom. The shower and amenities were good. No reason to stay anywhere else because the location and price were perfect. We had already done the kaiseki meal at another ryokan we stayed at so opted out of it for this one. I am sure it was good though! Nothing,

The free use of kimonos was an unexpected bonus experience. The decor was lovely. Very close to (and an original part of) the Zenkoji Temple. The room was cold - even with hot air blowers going full belt.
