Guest Reviews
- Darren (10/5): - I love the character of this place, the room I had this time was better than my last stay. The staff are lovely and friendly.
- Alison (8/5): A quirky nights stay! - Very quirky and wonky floors and doors old hotel so I suppose to be expected. Good service staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Great central location.
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely old hotel with character, friendly helpful staff, great bar with good selection of well priced real ale.
Restaurant was very good.
- Andrew (6/5): Quaint hotel - Quaint very old with little door ways, uneven floors etc which is great..good bar and food etc right in middle of town.plus free parking at rear.
Comfy bed, walls paper thin can literally here everything plus our room had no heating working and noise from nightclub emptying and walking past 4am.
- Colin (10/5): Another night at the Crown - Such a great place to stay, great service, great food, great atmosphere!
- hazel (10/5): lovely hotel - love the quirky features of this lovely hotel.very clean lovely staff and great food. would love to stay again
- Colin (10/5): - Great Food! Great service!
- Colin (10/5): - Always a fantastic place to atay
- Darren (8/5): Just one thing… - Everything was lovely, except the 1980s shower! This was the only thing letting this place down, the water was down to a trickle.
- christine (10/5): - Great old hotel with lots of Welsh old charm.
Loved all of the wood beams, crooked stairs; walls, etc. Nice bar and restaurant on main floor. Helpful staff.
- Malcolm (8/5): - Excellent hotel in the centre of Nantwich. No faults, though I did find the bed mattress too soft for my liking.
- Laurence (8/5): - Wonderful 16th century hotel.
Needless to say it was a bit wonky everywhere but full of character and busy in a ge bar and restaurant.
Staff great, facilities understandably in need of an upgrade
- Sarah (8/5): - Beautiful Tudor building, pleasant room, noisy in the morning as ancient beautiful leaded windows faced street.
- Sally (8/5): Welcoming central place to stay in Nantwich - A wonderful 'old world' welcoming place to stay in the centre of town. Everything on your door step.
- Colin (10/5): 10/10 - Fantastic place to stay!
- Colin (10/5): Excellent - Always a great stay at the Crown, this was my 5th stay in the last year, staff are brilliant! Extremely friendly and professional,Food and ambiance is great, very reasonable price as well. The smallest of negatives would be as a heavier person the mattress is a little uncomfortable, but apart from that I would only ever stay at the Crown.
- Simon (8/5): - great location
- G (8/5): Expect a slope at every turn ! - Grade 1 listed hotel from 1585 so knew to expect uneven floors.etc.lovley atmosphere very friendly helpful staff. Stayed 1 night b&b . Just disappointed in the room. For the cost would hsve expected s bit more personality in the room . Very basic tea coffee but a biscuit would have been nice may be some tissues. Just little perks as have received in other cheaper hotels thatcwould have made a basic room a special room.
- Peter (8/5): - Attentive staff - food at event OK, but nothing special - rooms quaint & as functional as you can make them in a Grade 1 listed building.
- Kevin (2/5): - The room had a terrible smell for the 2 days we were they, so much so we left before staying the second night.
- Kevin (2/5): - Our room absolutely stunk, we needed to stay the first night but didn’t stay for the second night.
We we offered a room that looked like staff quarters, but they were just as grim, there were also 2 Christmas parties near the alternative room.
So sadly would not recommend it.
- Colin (10/5): 5 Star! - Another great stay at the Crown, staff are brilliant, food is brilliant, location is brilliant!
- Gerald (10/5): Annual Visit - This was an annual visit to this hotel for a local function and as always I found it to my high standard with good facilities and excellent staff.
- Paddy (10/5): - We love staying at the Crown, we always have a lovely time as does George our Frenchie. We look forward to our next visit
- Colin (10/5): - Booked in for 1 night for return leg of a long distance journey, as ever the site, service and food was outstanding!
- Evelyn (10/5): - Very nice
- Chris (10/5): - Staff were exceptional.
Very friendly and helpful.
Facilities were great - bar was busy and food was excellent .
At over 400 years old - oosed character
- steven (10/5): - This place is quirky as! There is not a right angle in the place. It is straight out of a Harry Potter film. Not very good if you are wobbly but full of character
- Colin (10/5): Business trip - Great place to stay, lovely food and great service.
- Heidi (8/5): - Lovely old property everyone very friendly sadly had a small room in the red hot weather with no fan. Had no choice but to have the one window open which was directly onto the main st. All 3 nights we had party goers shouting and yelling until 4am. Came back tired and ready for a good sleep. Shame as external issue to hotel and nothing could be done to rectify but for this reason we wouldn’t return
- Peter (10/5): - Enjoyed my stay lovely hotel too stay
- Susan (10/5): Best of the best. - Everything was immaculate. Everything worked. Staff were kind and obliging. Thank you.
- Barry (10/5): Crown Nantwich - Good room & very clean.
- Julian (8/5): Wedding trip - We initially found the bed uncomfortable as I had a bad back, however the manager moved us to a more comfortable room without issue and apologised.the new room was excellent. Very friendly staff.
- Paul (6/5): - .
- Carolyn (6/5): Old world pub - Hi it’s a historic experience. The room was comfortable. It’s a 1580 building so its sloping floors low head clearance stairs are to be expected. Not good if you have luggage as the stairs are very difficult to get up. So not accessible for anyone with mobility issues
- Morning (10/5): - A beautiful historic hotel that has lovely rooms and a great bar and restaurant.
My only complaint is the lukewarm dribble of a shower. Just enough to soap up and rinse.
- Thomas F. (10/5): Crown of Nantwich - Charming Elizabethan building 1585, very quirky and askew doors & walls.like stepping back in time.
Lovely Shropshire Union canal nearby for walking over the Nantwich viaduct.
- Noreen (10/5): - Unique property, a must see. Excellent find!!
- k (10/5): - This property is ideally situated in the centre of the town.
- Tim (10/5): - I'd stay again
- Marie (10/5): - A great place to stay with the fantastic character of the building. Great service, friendly people and the breakfast was lovely.
- Richard (6/5): Dated Rooms - Tired rooms poor beds and bathrooms in need of a full refurbishment £26 for a £6.99 bottle of Pinot a bit OTT
- david (8/5): - lovely place to stay great location
- Shane (10/5): - Love old buildings excellent
- MR P A (6/5): Quirky, town centre inn. Rooms could be improved. - Friendly staff, great pub and building full of old world charm. Poor quality bed, mouldy bathroom and very noisy from 6am, so didn’t get much sleep.
- Andy (6/5): Nantwich Stay - Rooms are a bit dated and the mattress I had was a bit uncomfortable. Also very small single room and thought a bit expensive for what it was. The TV also didn’t work, no channels viewable. The bathroom was nicer and the bar area was very nice, Lovely old building in the centre of Nantwich
- James (10/5): Day in Nantwich - Excellent, well looked after by all the staff. Very clean ,tidy hotel.
- Jane (2/5): Will not be returning - Receptionists very rude and unhelpful.
Room very tired.
Shower useless?
- Andrew (10/5): - I very much enjoyed my stay at the 16th Century Crown Hotel, in Nantwich, Cheshire. The staff were excellent, very helpful and courteous - from the Front Desk to the Restaurant. I loved the history attached to the hotel and whilst the bedrooms with oak beams, were very different to what you would expect from a modern hotel, the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. I would like to Thank Catherine in Reception and the night manager, who kindly offered to drive me to Nantwich Train Station early the morning of my check-out, because it was raining. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable.
- Tony (10/5): A stunning period Hotel with impeccable service. - Fabulous historic building in a great location. The staff were excellent. Although the bathroom was new and perfectly clean, the water pressure in the shower was poor. The room decor was a little dated although I appreciate it maybe intentional and in keeping with the property.
- Simon (6/5): - Room 16 very dated furniture, carpet grubby. Disappointing on a two night stay coffee not topped up neither was shower gel/shampoo despite using these all on the first night.
That said the reception/bar & restaurant staff were great, friendly & welcoming.
- Lee (8/5): Lovely quirky hotel in the centre of town - Lovely quirky hotel with creaky and uneven floors just as an hotel of its age should be.
Room very comfortable.
Great bar and restaurant in the centre of town.
- Calum (6/5): - Overall the place was great .superb location and cool staff and food . Big problem was room 17 and its new bathroom . Had requested a room with walk in shower which was provided . My wife and I are partially disabled via hip surgery etc . The bathroom is a death trap . No rails in the large shower which even an abled person would need . Tiled floor is smooth so even with a dry floor towel for some sort of stability is no use . Someone could slip ,bang their head on the wall and crash onto the tiles . I did all of those . I already had 2 bust ribs from a work accident . Not fun . Not knocking the Crown but this is a serious design flaw .
- steven (8/5): - Great old quirky hotel, best range of beers seen for a long time
- David (10/5): Excellent Customer Service - We had a one night stop over. Room was spotlessly clean. We had a good meal in the bar. What impressed me most was the staff. They provided excellent service and had clearly been well trained and had pride in their work. They made a good stay an exceptional one. Well done
- Filipe (10/5): - The age of the hotel was extraordinarily
- peter (8/5): - Bedrooms a little dark .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place with loads of character. Mick Hucknall on reception was a bit miserable but apart from that was good!
- Matt (6/5): Great food and staff but room was tired - Good points: Hotel is very charming and the public spaces are in good condition, food is great and the bar lively. Staff are great and really helpful.
Bad points: The room I stayed in (12) has a door that sticks so badly that I had to get someone to push it open from the outside and I worry that in the case of an emergency someone would not be able to open it. Whilst the size of the room was expected (it was described as a small single) the condition of the decor and bathroom was not. The shower was impossible to maintain a consistent temperature and I ended up having to dance around as it varied wildly from scalding hot to freezing cold! Couldn't get the TV to come on and the remote looked like it had been run over, all stuck together with sellotape. General room condition was, at best, extremely tired.
I only had the experience of the one room, so maybe it's just that and I would go back for the food and staff but I'd be wary about booking a "small single" again.
- Andrew (4/5): Rough - Rough!
Very old and tired.
Uncomfortable bed.
OK maybe for stag/hen parties for convenience but certainly not somewhere you would chose to go to for a nice weekend away.
No breakfast available but some lovely places nearby.
I paid for 2 rooms at £75 each. Turns out there are far better options nearby at that price point.
- Steven (10/5): Crown Hotel - Must be one of the oldest hotels in the area, right in the centre of town. Has a very good selection of beers for a hotel bar.
- Mark (10/5): Great hotel - Had a great stay in the Crown Hotel, the room was great, the food was great and staff were great. Would stay here when I go back to Natwich.
- Jonathan (6/5): Decor needs freshening up - Friendly staff efficient check in. Room could do with repainting/ freshening up particularly the bathroom. Stair rail top floor was loose concerning as it is a steep climb.
- Mark (10/5): We gladly stop again when visiting this area again - We were very surprised at room it was not we expected when we arrived. we were very pleasantly surprised room was beyond expectations.
Staff were beyond amazing and food was exceptionally good would have expected to pay alot more
- Mark (10/5): Super place! - Super place and friendly staff - terrible noise from rowdy youths on high street till after 4 in morning - clubs must close at 3 I guess. It’s always been that way nothing the hotel can do about but forgot how bad it is!- Bring earplugs!
- Tina (6/5): Disappointimg for the price - Room 16 - no window in the room only a sky light. No extractor fan in bathroom so smells musty. Everything old and dated.
- Jennifer (8/5): Super Character Hotel, excellent service & food - The service from the staff was excellent, very welcoming and attention to detail was brilliant from help with parking, check in and bar service. We have stayed many times and we have always been pleased with our room. This time we were given a double room and an 11am checkout which is great as the event we attend finishes late. However this room was in a corridor of room with spring closers on the door which means no lie is as they started banging at 6am all through the morning with guests going for breakfast and departing and then the cleaners. Also the clattering of the replenishing of cups and saucers in the rooms, there was no chance of lying in until 10:30 as we had planned. The value of the room was the highest we had paid, on average another £10 to £15 more expensive than previous stays. This was such a shame for us as we have always enjoyed our stay. The rooms are lovely and the beds are really comfortable. This is a fabulous hotel in the centre of the market town which has lovely tea rooms, eateries and pubs. The food at the hotel is excellent. We would love to be able to stay again but the banging and morning noise would make us re think next time unless they resolve this. I would definitely recommend but would only stay in room 14 as we have never suffered any noise from this room. Many thanks to all at the Crown for looking after us.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nantwich - The most characterful hotel I have ever stayed in. Rebuilt about 1585 there is not a straight wall or right angle , the floors slope in places as do the beams and banisters but I loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty with a diverse menu. Nantwich is full of character typified in the Crown itself. 8/10 a lovely 2 night break.
- Claire (6/5): Town centre location - The staff were very friendly and helpful. You get what you pay for in the rooms, reasonably comfortable but could be a lot nicer if the fittings and fixtures were updated. Convenient town centre location
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent - Whenever I’m working around Crewe area, I always try get a room at the crown, staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are nice and kept clean, food is nice. A+
- Verified traveler (2/5): Rubbish - The whole experience was awful. The staff were very rude . No breakfast and no hot water was offered a five pound discount only it was a joke. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap, but very tired - Nice little bar, rooms very dated and creaky. Room very very small and tired.
Didn't sleep much as the mattress was a little soft and bed was tiny.
Breakfast was very slow, 20 mins for porridge. And that was after the young lad opened up 8 minutes late.
Cheap night but definitely a budget night
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very old property with character, double room rather small, meal enjoyable
- Claire (10/5): Unique! - Lovely, oldy worldy hotel with lots if interesting history. Good, central location within walking distance to lots of pubs. The Crown Hotel is very unique because of its age. Would definitely recommend.
- Clive (2/5): noisy uncomfortable - If you like a soft bed, noisy shouting from drunks on the street at 4am, windows that dont close, stuffy airless rooms, and floors that tilt in many directions you will love this expensive hotel, otherwise dont bother
- Annmarie (10/5): - Could do with air con
But over all good stay
Nice helpful staff
- Stephen (8/5): Nice hotel slightly quirky - The Crown is in a great location in Nantwich. The staff are very helpful and the bar had a good selection of beers. However I would not use hotels .com to book again as it is cheaper to book direct especially if you are booking bed and breakfast combined.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Old world charm with sloping floors that make tea-totallers feel a bit tipsy
- Anthony (8/5): If you need a good sleep ... pass on by - Lovely Hotel ,certainly has character , received a very warm welcome on arrival and was shown to my room , nicely decorated and modern bathroom . The food was very good ,the only drawback being getting served was difficult because three of the staff were busy cleaning cupboards across from where I sat .., the only real issues were the bed was way part it’s best ... and noise from outside was terrible ... would I stay again ... probably not sadly
- Rob (10/5): Full of character - My favourite type of hotel, not a plastic chain but an individual real building with bucket loads of character, a good ole pub/Inn.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely hotel with real character. Very impressed with the welcoming staff.
- Chris (10/5): Great place to stop - Very friendly staff, food was great. Very old building but this gives it so much character.
- Jack (6/5): - It’s a hotel in the centre of town, which means on a Saturday night the rooms at the front are rather loud until the early hours with people on their night outs. Rooms were clean and tidy, mattresses very soft
- matt (10/5): Amazing English Historic Experience - What a great part of the adventure. We had never stayed in a 400 year old hotel before and we loved every minute.
Yes, the walls are crooked and yes the floors are uneven, but what a cool place to stay! The beds were comfy and the down comforters were very cozy on those cool nights.
The staff were all incredibly friendly and sitting in the large wing backed chairs next to the fireplace sipping tea is a treat not to be missed!
If you want the Ritz, this isn't it, but it's well worth the trip.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful Building Exterior & Central - The building is listed, and Tudor, and full of quirky charm. The room was small, and whilst such an old building may make changes to room layouts hard; the carpets were old and tired, the bathroom really had seen better days, and a good lick of paint in the bedroom would have been good. Service was friendly - though painfully slow in the restaurant.
It is however very central, and it's location makes up for the other flaws.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quirky but history - Brilliant service food and staff excellent professional- be back real soon xx
- Martin (6/5): Martins review - Not very good -
Room was far too small - in fact it was one of the smallest I've ever stayed in and the ventilation was practically zero.
Also the food was very substandard.
The check in took ages as their system was so slow and they were training another person up at the time.
I wont be coming back.
Regards,
