- Craig (8/5): - This hotel is perfect for us, except for the nightly noise coming from the beach bar, Wayos, almost directly across the road from Hotel Del Rio. The noise starts around 8 PM every night and doesn't end until midnight or after. We stayed in the Cabana Casita which is a single, hut style room made of natural materials. The room is clean but sparse with a regular sized bed, one night stand table and a couple of built in shelves. It has a mini fridge, and you can ask for a coffee maker if it's not already in the room. The bathroom is small but usable and clean. The location is great if you don't mind walking a few blocks to the main town center area. Optionally you can rent a golf cart and drive. We prefer to walk the beach towards town. They have a dock with chairs and a limited swimming area close by. Restaurant options are close, just down the beach from the hotel. I think that most adventurous travelers will find this a great little gem of a hotel and enjoy their stay. The hotel staff are amazing people! On the other hand, if you're more used to 4 star hotels, you may find this place a bit on the too rustic side.

I highly recommend this place as it is very close to everything. It is located right on the water, steps away from downtown and main shopping center.

If you are wanting the modern resort experience this isn’t it. But if simple clean comfortable rooms and great staff is your things then this is the place for you.

The staff was suspect friendly and helpful! Every place they recommended for food/drinks was amazing! They don’t have bike rentals/golf cart rentals on the property but they will call the people that rent and they bring the golf carts and bikes to the property to you and you pay them directly. We had a great time! Out room did not have AC but it was not needed as the windows stayed open at night and the breeze from the ocean was perfect!

Breakfast is modest in the garden, but adequate. Hot water in shower is slow arriving but is there. Beach is a stone throw away but not very elegant as far as beaches go the sargassum weed is a bit of the problem at the moment but not smelling and constantly attended to. Plenty of restaurants and bars in walking reach, rent a golf cart if not up to walking, taxis are cheap.

- Verified traveler (6/5): It’s fine but don’t expect much. - The place is fine. It’s a room. But the shower water smells horrific. It smells like rotting sea grass, which is a problem on the island as it is. I didn’t complain because I figured it was all over the island, but come to find our that it wasn’t. They need to treat the water. Also there was one woman, Fenicia, who was lovely. The rest of the staff always seemed to be bothered by any kind of request. They also would sit and talk all day. The fruit in the morning was nice but they would leave juice out and not clean the container properly so it tasted like dish soap. It was just a lack of car.

Just opening the windows and door helped (would have been nice if I could lock the screen door to leave main door open at all times. The office staff is wonderful and attends to all needs and questions/requests. Location could not be better for restaurants and the water. The whole town is walkable so there is no really bad location. Early simple breakfast is a plus although I did not take advantage of it. Hammocks outside are nice as well. I would stay there again.

Right on the coast; nice dock for watching the sunrise, fun dock bar/restaurants just steps away, pleasant beachside walk to the busier downtown area, 40 minute golf-cart ride to Secret Beach, dive shop 2 docks down, Our palapa was interesting and spacious with comfy beds, frig, drinking water, and wifi. Coffee, fresh fruit and juice, local bread & jam provided each morning, sunny chairs sheltered from the breeze, and shady hammocks for the hot days. Perfect for those seeking 'the island life', rather than a resort vacation. The office staff even organized delivery of a rental golf cart for our exploration day.

- Ginger (6/5): - I liked that it was near a really good beach massage business. It was located on the beach but had a really bad odor-I think from the seaweed. The property itself is old and in need of new bathroom fixtures. It is for sale. Given the condition and no air conditioning in our room, it should be less expensive than it is. The “breakfast” consists of sugary juice, bread/toaster, peanut butter and jelly and bananas. The coffee was literally lukewarm-no microwave to heat it up, powdered creamer and sugar. The office staff was friendly and competent.

The wifi was good, beds were firm, no air con in our room, breakfast very basic but location was near town and across from the water. If we were to come back to San Pedro we would pay more for nice accommodations.

- thomas (10/5): Winter getaway - The location to the north close to the river and toll bridge was quite and comfortable across from the beach! With walking distance to restaurants, market stores etc. The golf cart rental was reasonable also for a 24 hour rental so we could go to secret beach!

Breakfast is very basic (toast, PB, jam, fruit) but enough to get you started. Staff is very friendly and our room was spacious and clean. Would definitely recommend it!

- Mark (10/5): Great little hotel near the beach - Lovely little establishment a little to the north of San Pedro and close to the beach areas. Jim has a great, reasonably priced hotel, many of the rooms have AC and the breakfast is simple toast, fruit and juice & coffee. The rooms I saw don't have TV but why do you need that! The WiFi worked great. Check in was easy and Suzi and the rest of the reception were really helpful and happy to answer any questions I had. It's a quick 10-15 min walk to town but there are stores, bars and restaurants closer. Overall really enjoyed my stay and would thoroughly recommend Hotel Del Rio to anyone wanting to visit Ambergris Caye!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good location on a budget - The hotels location by the sea was great with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. We also enjoyed the free toast, fruit and coffee for breakfast. However the hotel itself is very basic. It was built in 1997 and hasn’t been updated much since I imagine! Our room had only a fan to keep us cool at night so I had difficulty sleeping. We were budget travellers so it suited us to stay here as it wasn’t that expensive!
- STACY (8/5): Not EXACTLY what the description and photos show - This was a bargain, but there are a few things: 1. Our room had no A/C. Apparently, they have rooms with A/C, but ours didn't and they didn't have a room with A/C available. Be sure to check that the room you're booking has A/C!!! At night, with the louvered shutters open, 2 ceiling fans and 2 oscillating fans going, it was bearable. We're from Atlanta, so heat and humidity like that are nothing new for us. For anyone not used to those conditions, I don't know how they'd survive. NOTE*** We got a peak inside the Owner's Suite! If you can, BOOK IT!!! Spiral staircase, A/C and absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! 2. "Breakfast Included" consisted of loaf bread, butter, jelly, one kind of fresh fruit per day, guava juice and coffee. There was a toaster and it was placed under the palapas in the courtyard. It was NOT breakfast. I booked the breakfast included hoping that would get us one meal a day we didn't have to spend money on. Since it wasn't a real breakfast, we still went out for breakfast every day. 3. The photos make it look like it's on the beach...IT'S NOT. It's across a dirt street from the water, but the water isn't suitable for swimming. It's a beautiful view, but you can't just walk out your door and into the ocean like the description and photos would have you believe. 4. It's really close to some great bars, but during the summer everything closes REALLY early. 5. They have nighttime security so we felt really safe. 5. Wi-fi is spotty at best.

- KD (10/5): Great place by the beach for the cost - We stayed 2 nights total and would have stayed more but left that area. Great staff, they gave us a upgrade at no cost to a bigger room with a full kitchen and 3 beds because we tried to book our room for another night after staying the first night, and our original room wasnt available for that date. Only real negatives was the big room doesnt have AC, but with the two fans and windows open, it was easy to sleep with the breeze from the beach. Not too far to walk or rent a cart to get to a lot of great food places and bars. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Belize (Although Caye Caulker was much more laid back that San Pedro, so we will spend most of our island nights there)
- Amanda (10/5): - I loved staying here! It was quite at night and wonderful to relax under the palapa. I'm glad the hotel was nice because I didn't like San Pedro, overpriced and way too touristy.
- Christopher (10/5): - Great Hotel , Great Location. Relatively quite but close to Loud rowdy bars if that's what you're looking for Very short walk to tons of dive shops and tour operators.. Nice laidback place. ALL the staff were Great !! Very helpful. Kayaks are super nice and great fishing and snorkeling is a short paddle away. This Place is a Throwback to what San Pedro used to be and I don't know of any compliment that could be better than that

- reisa (10/5): Lovely, quiet place close to everything you need. - Hotel del Rio was a lovely spot north of the main "downtown" of San Pedro. Close enough to walk to everything, but far enough away to be quiet and away from the loud party zones. A couple hammocks under a palapa with a view of the water was great for reading and relaxing. Breakfast included fruit, toast, peanut butter/jelly and coffee. Small fridge in the room, air conditioning and fan. The staff was friendly and helpful, toiletries and beach towel provided. The bed was a little too hard, but other than that it was a great place and I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Always a pleasure to return here every visit - We’ve been staying here for years and will return again. I love that they’ve started serving coffee and breakfast in the courtyard. The room had everything we need and requests we had for water in our room, laundry service and golf cart rental were taken care of. The location is perfect and the staff keep everything clean and well maintained. This is our go to accommodation in SAN Pedro and a place we’ll continue to bring our friends and family.
- Chris (4/5): Don't book the room behind the office. - Great view, nice staff! And.....then there is the room behind the office. Filthy and uncomfortable. I have never stayed in a place that I had to wash the dishes before eating from them. Old, stained sheets that didn't even fit the bed. The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. The staff did their best, but it is obvious that the owner has not intention of investing any money into this place. The hotel had a for sale sign on a big tree in front. Found out that sign has been there for years. Avoid this place until an owner that gives a &*%^ buys it. Now we know. Oh...and zero wifi signal unless you go out on the front porch.
- Leslie (8/5): Traditional thatched cabana facing the sea - This is a small intimate resort, full of character and Belizean details (wood, tile, thatched roof, verandahs) and very comfortable. The louvred windows let in all the cooling breezes and there are fans (both ceiling and free-standing) if you need more cooling. There's a free breakfast, helpful staff, and it's a few steps from Boca del Rio beach. The hotel has their own long dock for sunning or swimming off of (we saw a sting ray just below it - they're friendly), and they'll arrange anything you want: snorkel tours, golf cart rentals, taxis, bike rental, kayak rental, etc. It's far enough from the centre of town that it's quiet, but easy to walk to excellent restaurants further south, along the sandy beachfront road. In fact, all the guests staying here seemed to be nice people too. If you want glass windows, A/C, and totally modern amenities then maybe this place is not for you. But if you want to see tiny lizards scooting across the walls, and stay in a place with authentic character, you will not be disappointed.
- Z (8/5): Charming, clean, and in a great location - The staff welcomed us with a smile and was attentive to our needs. We found a spacious room with a fully-equipped kitchen and a clean bathroom. The balcony, facing the ocean, was a relaxing place to be. We were pleasantly surprised to find a complementary continental breakfast served in the courtyard, conversing with other visitors. While our room did not have an AC, the louvered windows offered a great breeze from the ocean.
- Ana (8/5): - Reasonable price, located walking distance from center of San Pedro, clean and well kept.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Extremely Disappointing - While this hotel WAS right on the beach, you could not actually get into the water due to the vast amount of seaweed. WiFi service was spotty at best and did not work most of the time. The toilet would not flush without manually refilling the tank after every use. The hot water in the bathroom sink was not hooked up, and the hot water in the shower took a minimum of 3 minutes to get warm. We also were only allowed one towel a day and they would not give us any more until we returned the ones we used; the towels that were waiting for us on arrival were stained, and the employees seem put out that I made them bring me clean ones. I would not recommend this unless you are on a tight budget and don't plan on spending much time at the facility.
- david (8/5): Mom and pop kind of feel - Loved this place. In town and on the beach. No tv or very good internet, so if you want that go else where. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would go back again and again to this resort
