• xixad (2/5): Decent hotel but rude front desk staff - Dear Management, I am writing to share some feedback regarding my recent check-in experience, which I hope will be helpful for improving guest services. My wife and I arrived at 2:45 PM for our 3:00 PM check-in and were kindly asked to return later as our room was still being prepared — which we completely understood. However, when we requested to at least complete the check-in formalities while we waited, our request was declined and we were asked to come back in 30 minutes. After 3:00 PM, we made a second attempt and were again informed that the room was not yet ready. We had no issue with the wait itself, but we were once more unable to proceed with the check-in process, which left us a little uncertain as to the reason. On our third attempt, we were fortunately able to connect with another staff member who was very helpful and clarified that completing check-in while the room is being prepared is indeed possible. We appreciated their assistance greatly. I understand that room readiness can sometimes be delayed, and that is entirely understandable. My concern is simply around the check-in process itself, as having to make three separate attempts was a little frustrating, particularly after a long journey. I wanted to bring this to your attention as I am a regular guest at the Civic when visiting BC, and I have always valued my stays here. I hope this feedback is useful, and I look forward to returning under smoother circumstances. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

The price for this stay was considerably higher than most in the area. I am an international traveler and while this property is urban and lovely, it simply doesn't warrant the cost

The clean and bathroom facilities were really well cared for. The bottle of water daily was the one I enjoyed the most. Good location, near the train station to go everywhere. The restaurant, especially at breakfast. The service took too long (20 min to receive the dish) and considering I was on a business trip the time is fundamental.

• H5677YItonys (8/5): Exceptional - I can't say enough good things about this hotel. I stayed here on an extended business trip in the fall of 2025. What a surprise to find such an exceptional hotel in Surrey BC of all places. The rooms are well appointed. Housekeeping staff were fastidious. Food in the Dominion Bar+Restaurant was some of the best hotel food I've had anywhere. The front-of-house staff knocked it out of the park. The only thing keeping me from awarding 5 stars is the absence of any convenience store on-site.

The room are set like a normal hotel. BEST and only normal hotel in surrey, the other hotels are setup like a motel or worst.. I travel a lot and my standard are different. The floor in the shower is slippery and a little dangerous. Very confusing parking garage. Not an easy place to find. The name of the hotel is at the top of the building. Not easy to see.

• msdameb (10/5): The Staff are Amazing - Came for 5 nights because my dog needed to go to the vet specialist at Boundary Bay. The hotel is nice, the rooms are very clean, but what made our stay was the exceptional staff. In particular, every single one of the servers (shoutout to Breanna!) at the Dominion restaurant went above and beyond to make us feel special and welcome. The food is also spectacular (shoutout to Manny, who is a magician in the kitchen…vegetarian Tibetan dumplings are ADDICTIVE and everything else we tried was so delicious). The pool was also warm and clean and my teen son loved the gym amenities.

• pamh309 (6/5): Not worth the price? - I’ve just spent 3 night at this hotel with the family. I would say overall I was disappointed with the say. Cons: (1) value for money not there. (2) the King room we booked was so small that there was barely any space around the bed to move. (3) our family ended up with rooms on the 5th floor which has a sky train directly outside the windows so every 1/2 hour train passengers peer into your room… how is this even allowed??? Plus the noise from the train was an issue for sleeping. (4) no amenities in the room … not even a shower cap. Bare minimum of soap/shampoo provided. (5) Housekeeping leaves before 4.30pm so if by chance you had a late night and need your room cleaned later in the day, it’s not possible… again, for the price they charge this should not be the case.

I paid for a corner room with "city panoramic views" and got a 5th level floor overlooking a busy building site. Offered a higher floor but only standard room alternative and no refund.

• reccil (8/5): Clean, Great staff but elite status not recognized - We’ve stayed at the Civic Hotel several times for business, and while there’s a lot to appreciate, some aspects have us reconsidering future stays. The rooms are consistently clean and well-kept, though they tend to run small, with limited closet space—a bit of a challenge for longer work trips. One unusual design feature: the coffee machine is placed directly across from the toilet, which feels out of place in an otherwise upscale room. Despite holding Titanium Elite status with Marriott, we haven’t received any upgrades on recent visits, which has been disappointing, especially given the frequency of our business travel. This lack of recognition may have us looking at alternative options going forward. On the positive side, the included breakfast is excellent, with a wide selection and good quality. The location is ideal, offering easy access to SkyTrain and other transit options, and the staff are always responsive and professional.

• acuswort (10/5): Modern, upscale, and clean hotel - Let me start off my saying my stay was excellent and would absolutely return again in future. Arrival was quick and easy. I was a bit early but they were still able to check me in to a room. They even upgraded me to a corner king. Now here’s where it could get decisive. The room I was assigned is 814, the corner facing the SkyTrain station. For those who are light sleepers this room will be noisy for you in the evenings until the trains end for the day around 1 am. If you’re a train/public transit foamer, this room is a dream with direct views of the trains coming and going. I had no issue with the noise and slept soundly through the night. If you’re the light sleeper type, make sure to ask to be in a room facing AWAY from the SkyTrain, or at lest above the 9th floor or so. The room was clean and in good shape. It was plenty of room for a single business traveller or even a couple. I will note there’s not a lot of storage so if you have large bags it could get a little tight. Bathroom is clean and the shower is extremely spacious. I will note however you may wish to bring your own shampoo and conditioner. The ones provided were not good on my hair. Honestly, I suspect someone accidentally filled the conditioner with hand lotion because that was the scent and feel. If you do use it, be careful not to slip in the shower as it makes the floor quite slippery. The bed was decently comfortable and pillows were not a thin whisper of cushion pretending to be pillows. That’s a bit of a rarity in my experience and was appreciated. Bonus points for not being feather pillows. There are plugs on either side of the bed so you can charge your phone overnight, but only one side has usb ports. Noting all the built in ports are type A. Waiting to finally see a place with type C ports. Like many hotels, this one has the chrome cast option to cast your own streaming services on. I do like how it actually worked here as a few hotels I’ve been to lately it just refuses to work. The he wifi was fast enough and reliable to watch shows in the evening and get some work done. There’s a few little extras in the room that are well thought of. There’s two robes in the closet if that’s something you’d use. Also, being Vancouver area it rains a lot, so there is an umbrella as well for you to use but don’t forget to put it back or they’ll charge you for it. Free filtered water provided in the room in refillable glass bottles which the staff replace daily is a great way to provide the benefit without a bunch of plastic waste. All in all, a good stay in my experience. If you need the convenience of being close to the SkyTrain without the high cost of a Downtown Vancouver hotel, this is a great option.

• Jill (10/5): - Hotel was easy to find once off the main Trans-Canada Highway. Very clean and friendly staff. Even though we had to pay for parking in the parkade, $15 was reasonable for the night. Guildford Mall was a quick drive away. We didn’t get a chance to use the pool or hot tub, but it looked cool. We stayed in a corner king room. Views were pretty and we’d stay here again!
