- Culture21407055073 (4/5): Disappointment! - I was very disappointed. The room was a quarter size of the pics. Nespresso machine broken, instead of a king bed, it was a double, was cold at night with no extra blanket, breakfast wasn't very tasty. The staff did lower the price due to extreme disappointment, not their fault, they were very kind. Owners needs to make big improvement.
- minnaferzigerf (4/5): Disappointing - Luckily the room was clean and the staff was pleasant. Otherwise this hotel is an overpriced disappointment. Our room was so small that the maintenance worker moved the bed in order to open his ladder to fix the curtain that fell off the poles when I opened it to get some light. The bathroom hardly has room for the toilet and the stall shower. There is no breakfast included and they charge US $65 extra for a late checkout after Shabbat. I like trying new hotels, but this made me miss the Orient Hotel five minutes away which, for the same price includes breakfast, a late checkout and a room 3 times the size.

When we told the front desk we were not happy, we were told we could leave but would owe one night’s stay. We said fine and booked another hotel. On our way out the door, the man said ‘ my Mistake- you have to pay for the whole stay’. This is not ok. We are hoping Expedia will help resolve this. Thus far, there has been no response. This is also unexceptionable. We won’t hurry to use Expedia.

- gilh724 (10/5): Vila Brown Jerusalem - Loved the place from the moment we got there. Beautiful place spiritual aura surrounds the vila. The stuff was professional and very welcoming. The vila location is perfect. Walking distance from the old city and Machne Yehuda market. The only issue I’ve had was the misunderstanding regarding the parking lot which the Vila is working with.

The location was great, very near walking streets in the old city. The breakfast--it was magnificent! The food was so delicious and the setting was like a cafe on the street!

For anyone who loves the German Colony neighborhood of Jerusalem, this hotel is perfectly situated on a quiet and shady street. My room had a lovely balcony, perfect for enjoying morning coffee (nespresso machine in the room). The entire hotel is stylishly decorated, and the outdoor courtyard is a great spot for a drink. A special thanks to Yosef, who was incredibly helpful and kind. Highly recommended.
- janrez (2/5): Worst Hotel Experience, Ever. - Awful experience! You can do a LOT better than this. I had booked a suite at Villa Brown and a couple days before my arrival, I received an e-mail telling me that there was a technical issue with my room - really!!? It seemed very strange. They moved me to another of their hotels - Brown Machane Yehudah. I got there and the room was smaller than tiny, overlooked a construction sight and they were going to charge me the same rate as the suite at Villa Brown. After a discussion with the front desk, they somehow 'found' me a room back at Villa Brown. No offer of paying for a cab or any compensation for the inconvenience. Told me I could walk, it was just 10 min away! When I got to Villa Brown, there were no suites left and I think I got the worst room in the hotel...tiny, on the side overlooking an ugly overgrown garden. I learned from one of the employees at the other hotel that they will do this because they get overbooked from Booking.com and if you book directly with the hotel, you are easier to move than a Booking client. It was really one of the worst hotel experiences I have had. And I have just read that another reviewer here had the exact same experience. Stay away from all Brown hotels.

- Inspire07759560862 (2/5): Thieves - We had a reservation to celebrate my birthday. The night before, after 22 pm, the manager called to say that due to technical issues they are canceling our reservation, and offered us a stay a one of two other hotels they have in jerusalem, which are not close to giving the same experience as the villa brown in my opinion. So we refused. And he said they will compensate us. Of course we had to change all our plans since we couldn't find a different hotel with such short notice. But that's not the worst part. They charged us anyway, the compensation stayed as a fictive suggestion, and i have been chasing them around for over a month now with no refund still. Including a fornal request made through booking which were the platform we booked it through. So to conclude - stay away!!!

The vibe is "too cool for school". Trying to be New York City hip, but comes off as lazy. Rooms are tiny! VELVET decor - in Israel! Ridiculous. Serves me right for buying into it. Go somewhere else!!!

- 291tamarn (4/5): Poor value for money - very poor value for money for a boutique hotel. The hotel is located in a busy neighbourhood. Buses start early and noisy. To avoid it windows must be shut and curtains drawn to block view from the street. The room is considered "suite" but is fairly small, poorly furnished, no closets and no option to hang long dresses or suits. It is a choice of "style" over convenience. Beside the lack of closets the bathroom has a small unstable sink positioned on a small and low antique style dresser. Beautiful yet very unpractical. The aircondition was noisy even when we reduced to a minimum fan mode. Overall the room was small and inconvenient. On the way down the view to the messy service room added to the sense of overall maintenance issues, as well as the small courtyard that offered quite a gloomy view of spare furniture. The feeling is of a dacor that is covering an unorganized infrastracture. Beside the poorly furnished small dark room (suite:( we encountered a quite unhappy chef during breakfast. The breakfast is nice in appearence, including a veriaty of small dishes ( you must love tahini as it covers many of the:( and good selection of main cources. The small table is not suitable for the many plates , yet another "look as oppose to convenient" approach. The menu did inckude any fresh vegtables or salad, so we asked for simply cut tomato and cucumber. Our very nice waitress Maya tried her best but chef was adamant and refused to serve the simply cut vegtabeles. The milk for the tea and coffee arrived in glasses so we had to ask for a soucer in order to avoid splilage. Salt and pepper where not offered on the table (another guest came over to ask for salt so I guess it wasn't offered on their table either). Is the underlying idea is that the chef's dishes are perfect? *I do want to mention that we complained and when the manager recieved our complaint ( a day later) he made a real effort: Sent wine to the room, personaly made sure we had fresh vegtables and soy milk at breakfast and came to our table to check on us. He was kind and professional and tried his best*. Parking is costley near the hotel. Checking prices now around the city, and based on our previous visits in Jerusalem, For the price we paid plus parking we could certainly pick any of the beautiful hotels in the area with wonderful rooms ,great breakfast and quiet rooms. We will certainly not return here.

It is within walking distance of all major sites and it is right next to a bus and train line. The staff and was courteous and helpful! The breakfast was delicious! I would stay here anytime!
- douglassO9559KK (10/5): A lovely gem of a hotel. - Lovely courtyard to have breakfast or just relax. Foyer is lovely as is the staff. Most accommodating and friendly. Breakfast served outside by the nicest people. The room was very nice, bed comfortable, air conditioning good, and the bathroom was large and super nice. Location in old section of Jerusalem is convenient for walking to great restaurants and taxi service or bus service if you prefer was easily obtained. Excellent small boutique hotel great for couples. Highly recommend this hotel.
- rahelgershuni (8/5): An atmosphere of calm and tranquility though with some disadvantages - We stayed in this hotel for one night and it accomplished what we hoped - gave us a relaxing break. It is a place with much beauty. The courtyard is pleasant; the lobby quite lovely; coffee, tea and cold lemonade are available 24/7; we were greeted with glasses of champagne and there was chocolate on our bed. Our room had a small porch which was peaceful and tranquil. On the downside - the music playing in the courtyard detracts from its atmosphere. It is more the kind of musac one would expect at a beauty parlor. In addition, there are no closets or shelves in the rooms and the rooms themselves are decorated in an ultra modern style, whereas the building is old Arabic style. That just doesn't work. To add to that, though there was a full length mirror in the room, it was not attached to the wall, but merely leaned against it, so that you needed to be careful. Nor is breakfast offered. While they wrote that they have a library, when we asked about it, it turned out that it was on asymetric shelves behind the desk which were not accessible and were clearly just a decoration rather than for use. These disadvantages lead me to doubt that the high price was fair. However, bottom line - despite the disadvantages, the place has an atmosphere of calm which is priceless and for that reason, I would consider staying there again.
- L7705CBmattp (10/5): Beautiful Urban Oasis - I cannot say enough good things about this property. Mustafa and his staff are kind, helpful, and highly professional. My request for early check-in was granted without any problem. The room had a lovely balcony with flowers and was kept spotless by the cleaning staff.The front courtyard had too many flowers to count! It was a beautiful area to enjoy breakfast in the lovely weather. Breakfast is delicious and huge! Maybe 6 different mezze in addition to the main meal. The staff serving the food are also very nice and friendly. The blonde girl has a very pretty smile. One caution- there is nothing to do in the immediate area. No restaurants, no convenience stores, nothing. So make dinner plans elsewhere. But the hotel is only 20-25 minutes walk to Old City, so you can get your dinner there. I highly recommend this hotel, and I will stay here again on my next visit.
- 639lawrencek (10/5): Excellent boutique hotel - Excellent little oasis in the middle of a busy Jerusalem neighborhood. Warm staff and good food. Splurge for the junior suite and you won’t be sorry. Easy access to most things and a little bit more quiet than some areas. Be sure to tell your cab driver the address many don’t understand where it is.
- Sayali (2/5): - The room felt very unclean. The curtains etc. were very dusty. The hallways of this hotel are painted black giving it a sinister look. Everything felt very old and dirty. There was no full-length mirror in the room. I felt really sad and depressed every time I stepped inside the room. I have gotten better deals on hotels for the same money. The view outside my window was also bad with the next-door building being completely under construction. There is no woman on the staff which made me feel slightly uncomfortable at nights as a single woman traveler. On a side not, Jeff was really nice and a great staff person.

- Edward (10/5): - The Villa Brown Jerusalem is a fantastic boutique hotel centrally located in the city. The staff, especially Jeff at the front desk, were knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was very nice and included a balcony and spacious bathroom. We will return to this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Hotel was in a great location, we booked a garden room with a terrace which was a higher priced room but unfortunately it was very small and wasn’t in the best condition. The pictures look great but it’s a little shabby. The parking is about a 10 minute walk up the road which is secure. The balcony outside our room was lovely, coffee in the room was great, short walk into the city and also to the Old City. The rooftop spa and loungers isn’t necessarily as advertised, you have to go to the rooftop and fill the jacuzzi bath tub up if you want to use it.

The person who worked that night was so kind to find a place for us to eat, call a taxi and make sure the taxi picked us up when we were done. Also made sure we got back safely. The day we were leaving Solomon let us keep our room until we got back from our tour, then when we arrived he said you can use the room until you have to leave to Tel-Aviv. And also found us a taxi to take us to Tel-Aviv and then to Jaffa and then pick us back up and take us to the airport at night. He went above and beyond! I would recommend this hotel! Truly the staff is amazing and the next time I go to Jerusalem I will plan to stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): - The staff and breakfast were the highlights of the stat at Villa Brown. The rooms were beautiful and the bathrooms were clean, updated and great shower! The staff could not have been more accommodating, caring and helpful. We were in Jerusalem during a real cold spell, in the 30's -40's and the only problem was that the heat in a couple of our rooms did not work. They offered to move us and we relocated to rooms that had heat. Other than that, great stay and amazing breakfast. Will definitely stay here again.

- LAWRENCE (10/5): A very enjoyable stay in an exceptional villa - The villa is a wonderful building that is thoroughly modernized. From arrival to departure the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was served with warm courtesy and was generous but was quite middle east in its offerings. The only drawbacks were the offsite parking that forced us to cross several busy intersections with our suitcases and a somewhat small bathroom.

There was a broken mirror in the bathroom; television was put at the left side of the bed, so if you want to see TV, you need to look left- unreasonable. We ordered a massage- it cost 600 NIS for 2 persons, which is quite expensive but the service was very poor and unprofessional. There is practically nothing available at the hotel besides a 40 SQM terrace and a small jacuzzi. Breakfast was nice, but bread was served cold and black coffee also served cold, so I could not even drink it. Overall- bad experience, very poor value for money.
- Zoran (10/5): - I have had absolutely amazing experience, Hotel manager Yehuda and staff were very welcoming and helpful with all our queries. They greet us with the welcome drink and we were able to check in despite arriving very early in the hotel. Breakfast was very good, so many different varieties of the quality food and portions are very generous. Location of the hotel is excellent, everything was in very close proximity, walking distance to all historic sites during the day and great restaurants, pubs at night. Highly recommended.

- RAM (8/5): Very good hotel in central area - Main reason for not giving it a 10 is due to parking problem. The hotel does not have parking on the property. I stead you need yo go and self park about 250 meters in a public parking. If you make a error on the way, like we did, you get stuck in traffic for an hour. Once we got yo hotel all was great. We were greated by the hotel manager with Cava which was nice. Rooms are good size. All is very clean and nice. TV is new with most channels. We went to the SPA which is very small, single room . Massage was very good. Breakfast was very good. It is rich and Mediterranean type with several options. We took the Shashuka and Musli. Both where very nice. It also comes with coffee, fresh juice, bread and multiple small plates. Very rich breakfast!. It is a walking distance from major attractions and we went to Machane Yehuda marketn highly recommended both at evening and at day time. Totally different experience.

The former villa is a beautiful building from the courtyard to the lobby to the rooms themselves. Located within easy walking distance to the light rail, the old city, and plenty of dining and shopping. Finally, the service was excellent, with check in, breakfast, special requests, etc all above expectations. We would highly recommend.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Beautiful hotel with no good service to match! - Villa Brown is a beautiful hotel. Its main problem it is that it has one of the most unprofessional and untrained staff I have found on any hotel I have ever stayed...let alone a place as expensive as this one is. I called the front desk to ask for ice the first evening I was there and the front desk person told me "they didn't have any room service and that if I wanted to get ice I could come down to the kitchen and get it myself...if I wanted to." Service overall in the hotel is slow, unprofessional and very ill trained to deal with people that are willing to pay the prices they charge. They were times we came into the hotel and there was no attendants for at least 10 minutes at the front desk, and when they showed up they didn't even greet you but gave you attitude as if they were doing you a favor. A welcoming hello is not part of the culture of this hotel. And, really bad/sketchy wifi for such a small hotel. Unfortunate...it could be a beautiful place in Jerusalem to look forward to go back to. I won't!

Modern touches but classic Israeli style, very comfortable beds and huge conplimentary breakfast which was some of the best food I’ve eaten! Excellent location, close enough to walk to all the major areas but quieter and cleaner than the Main Street. I would recommend this hotel to everyone vistiting jerusalem.

Disapponting aspects which detracted from my stay was the minimal daily clean and the management's poor and very delayed response to an overcharged breakfast on my bill. Checkout receptionist was not able to resolve and it took days of me emailing to finally get a refund.
