Guest Reviews
- Max (10/5): - I had a great time getting to know Don and Catherine during a weeklong trip to Hillsdale for research in the college archives. They're really wonderful people, straight shooters, right down the middle. I hope I'll have an excuse to come back!
- Thomas (8/5): - Very old interesting house. If you are into all the most modern conviemces, then may not be for you. All the comforts are there like visiting old friends. Owners are very friendly and accomodating. No air conditioning, but the portable unit in the room made it comfortable enough.
- Timothy (8/5): - Nice place to stay. Worker was very friendly.
- Brian (10/5): - This cozy little B&B was truly a delightful experience. We stayed for two nights over the Hillsdale College Parent's weekend and we have no intentions of staying anywhere else when we visit Hillsdale over the course of our daughter's four years at the College. Don, the proprietor, is wonderful and accommodating. Our daughter joined us for breakfast, the room was clean and inviting, and the home itself is profoundly charming.
- Mark (10/5): Coming up roses at the Rose Garden - Rose Garden is an excellent value and place to stay. Donald is a conscientious host, very helpful in every respect. The breakfast he prepares for guests is amazing.
- Jasmin (10/5): Nice experience - Nice place, clean and very friendly owner!
- Todd (10/5): Fall in Hillsdale - Very historic house in the heart of Hillsdale. Great character within this old house, but be prepared to live without all the upgrades. Host is wonderful and service was great.
- Julie (10/5): Great Host! - Donald the host was so good to us! I would definitely stay again. I slept very well.
- Frank (10/5): Stately 1863 House - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Stately 1863 house. Great breakfast daily. Don was very accommodating and flexible for check in/out and use of facilities. Great conversationalist and historian of Hillsdale. We will check availability for our next visit!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The building was a beautiful Victorian home built in 1853. I wish it had had signage on the outside of the building
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Rose Corner Inn! Very friendly and accommodating staff, nice room, and they provide breakfast. We did not have a private bathroom, but that did not cause any problems. Will definitely stay again if we return to Hillsdale!
- Joyce (10/5): Great place and very accommodating. - I had a wonderful experience. Although it was close to 100 degrees outside, my room was air-conditioned and I enjoyed a great rest.
- beatrice (10/5): Fantastic host - I was there on a college tour with my son and chose a B&B instead of a brand name motel because for its charm and affordability. What the Rose Corner Inn does not have in terms of modern amenities (shared bathroom is the biggest drawback), it makes up for in character and personalized welcome. Don is a great host and source of a lot of local information. Highly recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's a classic bed & breakfast in the center of Hillsdale. The host is attentive. The breakfast was always great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This inn has a lot of character. The owner was an excellent host and an interesting soul.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a very nice location and close to downtown Hillsdale. Since there is only common bathrooms, would be nice to have robes provided in the bedrooms for guest use. Other than that is a very nice B&B and will use again next time in Hillsdale, Michigan.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Donald's hospitality and the lovely screened in porch
- Henry (10/5): - This is a beautiful old house with a really laid-back experience. Don was super-friendly and welcoming to our family and kids. We felt right at home.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent personalized property and service, we’ll be back if we travel to that area again.
- Jim (10/5): - I liked the cozy atmosphere. The breakfast was good and it felt like I was at home.
- Walt (10/5): - A great place to stay! Two days were not enough to explore all the charms of this B&B. We will stay again and again.
- Joe (8/5): - Nice railroad era mansion turned into a B&B. The home is clean and comfortable and Donald is a really nice proprietor. If you are looking for modern or fancy this isn’t the place for you but if you want old world charm and creaky floors you’ll feel right at home.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Delightful and basic - Delightful host. Convenient location to downtown and Hillsdale College. Meets basic needs, no frills. Bathroom was shared (not private). Needs bigger mirrors in individual rooms. Wi-fi available. Great value for the price.
- Louise (10/5): - Beautiful inn and the owner is delightful.. the stairs are a. Bit of a challenge if you have mobility issues but the owner graciously carried to and from the car,
- susie (8/5): Surprise - Charming and great people to visit with Quiet community
- Julie (10/5): - Good quiet house to stay in for a getaway. Host is nice and personable. Beds very comfortable my 12 year old fell asleep very fast after mentioning how comfortable the bed was. Only complaint was lock on bathroom door broken but i never felt like anyone was going to bother me if door closed.
- Thomas (8/5): This place an architectural treasure - Worth staying here just to experience an extraordinary old home. The architectural details are over the top. While shared bathrooms aren’t always ideal, they worked well here and the inn was full because of graduation. Shower faucets were a bit finicky. A few thinks you expect we’re missing like facial tissue and a hair dryer. We slept well and felt very welcome.
- John (10/5): A treat! - Second stay in this beautiful Victorian mansion. Everything was top notch, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a very nice place. Didn't get enough time to walk around and look at all of the things in the house, but looked like a nice Victorian era home. Beware of the tall curbs there - - tore up my wheel pretty good.
- John (10/5): Great B&B in Hillsdale - This is a great, convenient place to stay if you're visiting Hillsdale. Some things to keep in mind...
It is that it is a bed-and-breakfast, so you'll be sharing a bathroom with other people staying upstairs with you (there are 3 or 4 rooms upstairs.)
The breakfast is ready for you when you want it. The proprietor asks when you'd like breakfast, and he has it waiting at a set table in the kitchen when you come down from your great night's sleep.
The room is very comfortable, and there are any amenities you may need for a night or a week.
Highly recommended...enjoy the Rose Corner Inn!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice historic place with nice vintage decor - Enjoyed the nice historic house and vintage decor in pleasant Hillsdale. House is near downtown close to shops and restaurants and walking distance to most places of interest. Clean and confortable accommodations
- Verified traveler (10/5): Donald is very hospitable. - Very convenient to campus. Expedia listed private bath and that was not the case. The number of shared baths is more than adequate though. Will stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Another fine experience - Perfect abode for Hillsdale The Inn speaks for itself
- Geoffrey (2/5): Unsafe and unsecure - First red flag: the side door, through the kitchen, is kept unlocked 24-hours a day. So anyone who wants to have access to the home has it. Second red flag: upstairs bedroom has no lock & key, which means that anyone who wants access to your room has it. Third flag: shared bathroom down the hall has no key, so if a guest needs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, they don't know who has access to the bathroom, nor for that matter do they know if anyone has accessed their room while using the bathroom. Objectively, a B&B must have secure locks on doors to keep their guests safe. This B&B isn't even close.
- Nancy (8/5): Good choice - Very nice host. Comfortable, quiet room. Rather than stay in a hotel, I decided to experience a B&B for the first time. I'm glad I did.
- KM (10/5): Nice place. Great host! - The perfect room for our Hillsdale visit.
- Olive (10/5): I'll come back - Great stay- we were checking out the college and community- friendly, down to earth people - 'Michigan Nice'
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful Bed and Breakfast - We traveled to the area for NASCAR weekend at MIS. Rose Corner Inn was only about 25 minutes from the track and cost a fraction of what the hotels were charging. For the low price we weren't expecting much, but we couldn't have been more wrong! The room was clean and comfortable. All of us slept well in the comfortable beds. We started every day with coffee and breakfast provided by our kind and helpful host in the beautiful dining room.If we ever are in the area again we would definitely stay here again!
- Connie (8/5): Nice atmoshere - Very nice. The gentleman was always there to help us out with any information we needed. The house was amazing, the history was great. The twin beds would take a bit getting use to, I kept thinking I was going to fall out of the bed. I am use to a queen.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner, Don was very helpful and accomodating. We enjoyed our stay.
- Terri (10/5): Definitely recommend - Would definitely recommend! Clean and comfortable. Great conversation and tour of this beautiful mid-1800's bed & breakfast!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Rose Corner Inn-a great experience - We loved the Rose Corner Inn! Our first stay - close to Hillsdale College Campus, clean and comfortable, a delicious continental breakfast, with tremendous service!
- Duane (10/5): A jewel, not your average B&B - This gorgeous 1860 mansion is operated by a gregarious and gracious host. If you must have private baths and TV, this is not for you. If you want a unique experience, comfort and a great deal, it is. Continental breakfast on your schedule. Thank you Don.
- Brenda (6/5): Nice B&B close to the college. - I stayed here because I needed a place for one night for a meeting. For those purposes, this was just fine. I wouldn't stay here with my spouse (all the rooms have twin beds). The pillows were very uncomfortable. There was no TV available, but with Wi-Fi, I could stream something to watch/listen to in the evening. The rocking chair in my room was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. The host was friendly and it was nice learning about the history of the house.
- Gena (10/5): Restful, Affordable, Lovely and Interesting - I could've stayed at Days Inn up the road but I tried this bed and breakfast instead. Boy am I glad! For a bargain price I had a peaceful sleep in a warm cozy room on a frigid night. The bed was nothing special, the covers weren't modern, but it was clean, colorful, comfortable and astounding that A house 157 years old was in such great condition!
The owner was friendly and quick to answer my questions about the house. He knew some great stories and as a local had the information and suggestions a traveler needs.
I couldn't stop admiring the house detailing! They provided toiletries in unopened bottles and a room heater to make sure I was warm enough. I had no tv in my room which was fine. The wifi was great. I had a nice rocking chair and throw in my room.
The continental breakfast was waiting for me the next morning. I chose orange juice and fruit (all was sweet and cut for me) and yogurt. It was all so quaint. Simple. Easy.
I got a great deal on Expedia and paid like $50. $50 hotels in my experience means bugs and damp stinky carpets. This place was like a piece of Heaven for the price.
I came to tour Hillsdale College amd Rose Corner Inn is only 5 minutes from campus. I will definitely stay here again, hopefully same owners.
If you're not looking for a place that will entertain you with amenities and just want some peace and basic comfort to rest for a minute on a budget, try it.
