Guest Reviews

- Mahesh (10/5): Accommodating family run place, lovely garden, enjoyed birdsong with breakfast sat in the veranda. - 2 comfortable night stays at this lovely homely villa. Traditionally built villa. Large room with large bed, separate kitchenette, with fridge and sink. A separate good size bathroom. Beautifully kept garden with lots of fruit and veg. Very accommodating family. Delicious homemade Sri Lankan breakfasts, which we ate on the veranda. We could hear and sea different birds coming into the garden. Beach access very close to the villa. Found a little Cove, which had a view point and was lovely to swim.
- Kirsi (10/5): - So peaceful. The best we had during our stay! Beautiful garden, lots of birds. Own terrace in which you can enjoy your life! Clean, spacious room with a kitchen area. Dinuka and his family are just super hosts. You can enjoy delicious homemade breakfast each morning. Not far from the main street, you can walk to buy food or other stuff. You feel like at home. Will certainly come back. No dislikes.
- Barbara (9/5): Good value - Beautiful setting and only 5 minutes walk to the beautiful Ahungalla beach. Huge breakfast each day so ,no need for lunch! It's a family business and they are happy to give information and advice. Good value for money . Lack of private outdoor space, but we knew that before we arrived. Would have been nice to have a choice of breakfast, but we were happy enough to try the 4 different meals we had each day!

- Jaroslav (10/5): Nádherné, spojené s přírodou a všem doporučuji - Velká tropická zahrada s pečlivou paní domácí. Spolehlivá ENG/chat komunikace přímo s domácími. Nabídka, doporučeni, rady dalších služeb a dopravy.
Magnifique jardin.
Espaces communs avec du cachet.
- Matthias (10/5): Wunderbarer Garten, wunderbare Gastgeber.

Doporučili nám výlety a masáže a odvezli nás na ně. Dělali velké snídaně i skvělé typické srílanské jídlo. A po příjezdu nám připravili kávu a čaj. Byli ochotni s čímkoli pomoci a hezký si s námi povídali.
- Lukáš (10/5): - Friendly and helpful owners, nice and clean room, tasty breakfast, beatiful place with garden. Recommned!
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - The Villa Walauwa is an absolute gem! Located in a quiet street only two hundred metres from the stunning Ahungalla beach it is set in an exquisite garden where you can enjoy tropical plants and wildlife as you enjoy a delicious breakfast on your patio.
We stayed in a very roomy air-conditioned unit that had a huge shower room and a kitchenette with fridge etc.
If you need anything at all, the owner, Dinuka or his lovely mother, Beauty will arrange it or give you advice.
We stayed here for only four nights before heading north towards Colombo. We really wish we had stayed twice as long!
In all our travels anywhere, we have seldom stayed in such a wonderful environment with such lovely people!! Thank you so much Dinuka and Beauty. There is nothing.
- Michal (9/5): Superb - Very nice and clean guesthouse in a quiet location with a beautiful tropical garden. Watching the many birds and feeding the monkeys in the trees was a real experience. We had a nicely furnished room with comfortable beds, a small kitchenette and a fridge. The owners are very nice and friendly people. Excellent Sri Lankan breakfast on the terrace with a beautiful view. Don't forget to take mosquito repellent! I would come back.
- Mike (9/5): Tropical Garden paradise - Dinnka and his mother were very attentative to their customers. Their breakfast were more than enough to put us on for the day. N/A
- Akhilesh (10/5): Excellent Hosts! - The Family! Earnest and Smiling!
- Sean (10/5): This is true sri lanka, in every sense, fantastic hospitality, food and location, truly sensational - Breakfast was tasty and well presented and plenty to keep you going for the day!
We loved the whole experience of our stay at the villa, this is sri lanka, hospitality, prime nature, flowers, birds and wildlife, sublime in every way, didn't have to ask for anything at all, Simply didn't book long enough 13 nights not enough.
- Trevor (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was excellent. So was the dinner we had one night.
The property was a short walk from a nearby beachfront hotel where you could use their pool for a charge and other beachfront bar with natural sea pool.
- Marianne (10/5): Exceptional - Great hosts who were very welcoming and hospitable. Breakfast was lovely and the garden was beautiful.
- Rob (9/5): Great stay at Walauwa! - Everything that is said in previous reviews, we experienced as well. Nice, large room with good beds and very friendly people run the guesthouse. It is not a 5 star hotel of course, but it was all very nice. One suggestion: a ventilator on the veranda would have been nice. It is hot enough in the evening and it keeps insects away.
- Monika (10/5): Great family run business!I can only recommend it.Beautiful garden, plants, Beach very close. - The villa was in a quiet road. Ahungalla beach was 5 min. walk. I also really liked the little bay in front of Villa Thotupola which was just next to the long beach.
It is a family run business and the owners are very nice, helpful. They also do airport transfers, trips.
The breakfast was always very tasty. We had traditional bits and pieces as well. Always fresh fruit. The little kitchen had a kettle, a knife(is useful when you buy your own fruit), bottle opener. The room was very clean. The bed had a net. There is a sitting area in front of the room. It had a drying rack.It was nice to relax there. Fresh flowers on the table.
I adored the beautiful garden they have. We also fed the monkeys! Spent a great time there and also the little village has an ayurvedic shop on the main road. The owner has it all! All is great!
- Margarita (9/5): If you are simple and flexible traveler, this is a perfect place to stay. - Such a hospitality of the villa owners! They made us feel like home. The room was very clean. We got everything we needed to stay 11 nights. Great shower and comfortable bed. Lovely terrace to spend evenings. Having a fridge was also a huge plus. It was lovely hearing singing birds in the garden and watching wildlife. I miss our mornings having lovely breakfasts in the terrace! We would have liked more light in the room but considering constant heat outside, suppose it was great escape! It had air con, which was wonderful.
We would have liked a bigger wardrobe, but managed fine.
Make sure you bring mosquito repellent for evenings.
- Claire (9/5): Superb - The villa is in a beautiful garden and very comfortable, with a friendly family running it. Our room was big and had very efficient Aircon, fridge, kitchenette and seating area. Mosquito net is over the bed.
The location is good, 5 minute walk to the beach or the small town where there are local shops and one bar. The beach has bars and a couple of restaurants close to the villa. Turn sharp right down a small path at the end of the road to the beach to find a lovely cocktail bar and restaurant on a secluded cove.
We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the beautiful unspoilt beach and our Madu wetland safari arranged by the family. The jungly garden attracts wildlife including many mosquitos. Bring spray!
- Lucyna (10/5): we got a free breakfast, which consisted of Sri Lankan dishes + toast with salted butter or jam, and - A wonderful family working on every detail that may be useful to make guests comfortable. we lived in a beautiful garden of flowers, plants and nice animals
- Markus (8/5): Extraordinary place for people who like it quiet - Around 10th of January we spend some relaxed, pleasant days in Villa Walauwa. We booked the so called Standard Villa, for us it was no standard, we liked that old style much more than many modern rooms without soul. The beautiful garden with colibris and monkeys needs no further praise. We also appreciated the calm, quiet, friendly kind of the owners. And also positive - many hosts tried to charge us more than indicated on booking.com, with Walauwa people there was no discussion and problem. So for us it was just a great stay and we enjoyed it. The mocito net could be a bit bigger
- Katherine (7/5): While many aspects were satisfactory, there were inconsistencies in service. - The room and attached porch were pleasant and the bathroom appeared very clean, which i appreciated. The surrounding garden was beautiful and was visited by monkeys which was entertaining to watch. Amenities like a kettle and fridge were provided, which came in handy. The breakfast was sumptuous. The beaches in the area are beautiful and were not crowded. The hosts were really lovely and helpful on the whole. Unfortunately the pillow provided was hard and uncomfortable and smelt strongly of moth repellant. This affected my sleep quality significantly.
Interactions with one of the hosts were peculiar regarding money. A considerable sum of change was not offered when I paid. Additionally, I suspect I was overcharged for a tuk-tuk ride that was organized for me, as others, covering longer distances, were considerably cheaper.
- Fynn (9/5): Superb - Amazing host, beautiful garden where you can see and feed wild monkeys, the breakfast and dinner were delicious. The dinner consisted of multiple dishes. The dinner cost 4000 lkr for the two of us.
- Ana (8/5): Very good - Spacious, clean and close to the beach, period furniture and lovely private garden No air conditioner
- Barbora (10/5): Beautiful colonial villa in magical garden - Very beautiful place with magical garden, amazing owners and rich breakfast. The villa is in old colonial style and it's really impressive. The garden is just masterpiece and you can watch monkeys (we also gave them bananas), birds... It's a little thing but I missed some small lamp next the bed for reading, nothing special.
- Jonas (9/5): Superb - This apartment is a small paradise in this place: immaculately clean room, great bathroom, nice terrace and most of all very friendly hosts.
Thank You Beauty!
- Avril (7/5): Peaceful family home with welcoming hosts. - This beautiful if not jaded colonial house was exactly what I wanted to stay in. Design 100 years ago meant dark inside therefore cool. A kitchen was provided but nothing in it except a fridge freezer and a kettle.A microwave would have been useful.
The garden was lovely but overgrown and I promised to go back with my secateurs ! Regardless of the shortcomings, it was a lovely place with welcoming hosts.
- Joan (10/5): Exceptional - Just the standard we are use to. Really wonderful.
- Yulia (10/5): Fantastic - This is an amazing magical place, you feel like in a fairy tale. The owners are wonderful caring people, ready to help at any moment. They advised us to visit interesting places and none of these tips turned out to be useless. In addition, they themselves agreed and organized trips. The cleanliness of the rooms is perfect, you open the door of the room and you find yourself in a beautiful garden where calibres fly and amazing flowers bloom. I had a great time and will definitely visit them again.
- Tina (10/5): a blessed place to stay in - It was a great joy to be staying at this villa guest house. The garden is Magic and the welcome and service by the hosting family impeccable and truly caring . thank you
