Guest Reviews
- Jürgen (7/5): Good - Location is good, close to the Beach and Tourist areas No AC in the room, so it's really hot
- Benjamin (3/5): Good location if you can overlook the bugs. - Good location. Cockroaches. Bed bugs. Ants. At the end of the day it’s a bed and a roof over your head but it’s not good value for money considering you’ll be sleeping in a terrarium.
- Jacopo (4/5): Disappointing -
- Ben (9/5): Great location and budget pricing - It gets a bad press but no problems from me. Booked it ten mins before arriving and all was well. In a nice part of town and very central. No issues at all. Happy
- Troy (8/5): good spot no complaints - location was amazing no wifi in your room
- Thimoty (5/5): Ok for one night transit - Good location, room was ready before check in time wich was great. No AC no hot shower
- Oliver (5/5): Damp n smelly - Location was great, right in the heart of el nido, 5 minutes walk to the beach. Staff were very nice and friendly. The smell...I had read other reviews and knew to expect a bit of a pong but I wasn't prepared for the stench that awaited us. It was really quite overwhelming. The room has a serious damp problem. If you want to secure your room and lock the window which opens onto the hotel lobby ( I gather from other reviews that I was fortunate to even have one!) then you'll come back from your boat tour to an extra damp and stinky room. All the sheets, pillows and even clothes you hang up will be slightly damp and stinky. Had to leave the window open and put the fan on full blast to get a bit of ventilation going and dehumidify it enough for us to sleep.
Sheets and bath towels were stained and a bit grubby. Bathroom pretty grim and no complimentary toiletries provided.
Furnishing was very basic and mattress a little uncomfortable but perfectly acceptable for the price point.
Honestly, if it weren't for the smell and damp I'd have rated it a 7. Hope you guys can fix it!
- Alex (6/5): Basic - Good position, room and bed big enough for a couple. Cold shower and no aircon, not a big deal but better to know The WC was licking and we didn't get the toilet paper
- Arwin (3/5): Poor - location unclean, rude customer service
- Dominic (6/5): Pleasant - Clean place, great location No A/C in the room, the fan was not enough. Bad smell from the bathroom.
- Mathieu (9/5): Good room in the center - The location and the staff/owner was very nice.
The AC is really saving life. The water has a bad smell.
The room number 5 is not so good compared to the #4.
- Agostina (7/5): The location its perfect and the staff its very helpful about getting bikes and tours. -
- Alex (7/5): Just what I needed - Location, staff and the room itself (very spacious) There was a fan but no air conditioning which meant I was quite hot at times
- Eurídice (7/5): Fine for 1 night or 2. Descent. -
- Dupre (6/5): Pleasant -
- Golan (5/5): Passable - The wifi You will get out of the shower smelling worse.
The water stinks so bad that I didn't want to take a after sweating because I like the smell more. The room is suffocating, and you can smell the smell of mold in the room. My room had a window with a view to the hall, so if I opened my window everybody could see what's going in the room and a lot of mosquitoes would come in.
- Afiya (7/5): Good - Lovely family friendly property located central to el nido nightlife and easy to get around. The room was clean and adequate, with friendly hosts Ann and Madeline No outside windows but there is a window that connects to the landing which is open air windows for air to circulate.
- Andres (9/5): Superb - The location of the place is at the center of the city, and few minutes walking to the harbor (main attraction is go to some boat trip). The place is quiet and the staff is very helpful. The room only have a fan, this is already specified by the description of the place, but I think would be much better to install some A/C, the room is very hot sometimes.
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (4/5): Disappointing - Good location No airconditioning and the room was so hot
- Tomas (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pablo (4/5): Hot, muggy, poor wifi, smelly water supply - The woman that ran the place was very nice. Room was like a sauna even with fan on, very hot and uncomfortable at all times (pay the extra for AC if you can). Wifi would not reach room and was flakey even in the common area, very frustrating. Worst thing was the water quality - shower and sink water smelled of bacteria though I hear this is common in El Nido so maybe not the hotel's fault.
- Caleb (3/5): Poor -
- Hendrik (6/5): Pleasant - The owner/host was kind and willing to help you. The bathroom was dirty, and very smelly. In the bathroom was no ventilation and it causes a lot of stinky black fungi. Besides the bathroom the same smell was also in the bedroom. Really nasty!!
- Emma (1/5): Zero stars very dangerous not safe had someone trying to get into my room at 1am police done nothing - I would rate this zero stars please do not stay here if you are a solo female very dangerous and the police do nothing
I had someone picking the lock at 1am and owner and police came to my door at 3am never been so scared in my life please don't stay here
No air con the room is hotter than outside
Asked owner for a refund had to leave early Please do not stay here if solo female traveller
The door remains open to the main property all night anyone can walk in. My door lock was picked and had I not had the latch on and the bed pushed against door they would have got in. Asked owner for refund as left early due to been petrified told me to ask booking.com
My family were ringing the property from the UK to speak to owner as I was crying with someone trying to get in my room. The most scared I've ever been
- Jose (1/5): UNBEARABLE HEAT AND THREATS FROM THE OWNER - I do not recommend this place at all, the heat is unbearable in the rooms and there are cockroaches. The room they gave me promised hot water and there wasn't any. The internet connection, the worst on the island, which is already bad in itself, and the treatment the worst. Not with the girl who was there, she was very nice. The fan there broke, and the girl told me that her boss was going to charge me for it, when I had not broken it. When I spoke to the boss, he accused me from the beginning of something I had not done and in the worst possible ways. I tried to talk to him to reach an agreement. I told him there was no hot water and the wifi didn't work. He told me that they were excuses not to pay. He even told me that he was from India and that he could slap me... I was very nervous and scared and preferred to leave, even though I had two paid days left, which was much more than the cost of the fan. I was going to report him for threats, but I thought it would be of no use.
- Pedro (2/5): The Moldy Kindergarten Palace - That I only stayed for one night. Totally overpriced for the quality provided.
The reception area is a noisy kindergarten, disrupting both nights and early mornings.
The pervasive odor of mold was overwhelming; I initially thought the reviews were exaggerated, but sadly, they were accurate.
The sheets were stained, and the air conditioning system was broken.
The room had a window aiming to reception where the light is on all night and the curtain is not a blackout.
Adding to the discomfort, the bed and pillows were as hard as rocks.
- Anthea (6/5): Great location - The location is great; right in the hub of El Nido, close to restaurants and the beach. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were really lovely. Check in and check out was really simple and easy. They had a backup generator for night time which was good because it meant the fans were able to work during the night, especially with power outages being common in the Philippines The room had a damp smell which was a bit off putting but it wasn't unbearable.
- Femtehjell (9/5): Superb - Located in the center, only 5 minutes walk to the beach and restaurants. Owner is nice. Had to ask for the separate bathroom to be cleaned.
- Leah (6/5): Pleasant -
- Benjamin (7/5): Good -
- Ran (6/5): Pleasant -
- Eshed (4/5): Disappointing -
- Tomek (10/5): Very nice - All
- Stephanie (3/5): Poor - Location Room and bathroom size is good, but there is no ventilation and a moisture issue in the rooms. We only stayed for 1 night but when we left all of our things felt a bit damp. We had a fan room which would have been okay if the rooms were ventilated a bit better. Also no hot water. Not worth $33AUD.
- Nympha (10/5): It was great for the money. Exceeded expectation. The staff are amazing! - Location - it is nearby shops and near the waiting area for the tours.
Room - it is cleaned after 2 days of our stay. New sheet, new pillow and clean room. I salute the staff for doing such a great job.
Clean - the room is clean as well as the balcony.
Staff - so helpful since day 1. We can't thanks them enough for making sure our stay is amazing. She even suggested places to go and how can we save money on this trip by renting motorcycle. Wifi in the room maybe
- 418milik (10/5): Excellent stay, highly recommended - I had very nice stay in Ashok homestay honestly because of the owner. My stay was in February 2017 during valentine week. The hotel is at the center of the city, accessible to restaurants, clubs and beach. The location of the hotel is just perfect even during late evening. The room is clean, bathroom is clean. The wifi is weaker inside the room but very good at the lobby. I have no complaints during my stay. The owner of the property is kind, humble, approachable, helpful and smiling face nice guy. He is always ready to help in suggesting restaurants, beach, shopping areas. He even offered us to cook breakfast (bread omelette) in his kitchen which was a kind gesture often not found. He was flexible with checkin-checkout time.
I would highly recommend Ashok homestay for the best beachy exploration and a cost effective vacation.
- Ashleigh (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (9/5): Excellent - lovely place was very happy . very nice woman who runs the place, she sorted out me day trips and also mini van she’s great . Free coffee in upstairs area to chill . Rooms are hot but I had aircon so was fine . Very close to food Market and restaurants and all the activities. Thanks Only problem was the shower water smelled of sewage .
- Russell (8/5): Very good - The ceiling rotating oscillator fan ,would of liked to have it stationary ,but clean.
- Ned (8/5): Very good -
- Shirley (6/5): Pleasant - It didn't look like the photos on booking.com
- Nathalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dohan (7/5): Good - great location
nice stuff no hot water in the shower
- Caro (7/5): good for a short stay in central el nido, if you’re not used to luxury - central location, very clean room (they even changed sheets on our 3 night stay), comfortable bed. only cold shower, no wifi in the rooms, warm and humid rooms.
- Nikola (8/5): the staff at reception was super helpful, the location is amazing, and everything was clean. Only thing we had been miss - location, staff didn’t have the air conditioner
- Russell (9/5): Superb - The rotating ceiling fan.I prefer it was directly on us when sleeping but other than that everything was perfect ,even the host was super nice .Very sweet women she was so helpful God bless her .
- Rory (9/5): Superb -
- Margit (7/5): Good value for money, friendly staff. - The staff were very nice. The lady cleaned regularly.
It is in a very good location, close to the departure of the boats. There was no fridge.
- Sarah (4/5): Disappointing - So sweet owner of the homestay! Very close to the center of El Nido. Good restaurants just around the corner. The room was not nice. VERY humid and warm. The air condition didn’t work. We had a fan, but still very humid. Felt like the bed was a bit wet because of the humidity…
- Chezney (9/5): Superb -
- Maciej (3/5): Bad experience with room at ground level - nice lady at front desk, free coffee, central location We got the room at ground level with an internal window facing reception and main door to the hotel. If you want to book this hotel try first to go there and check which room is available. If this is one we got - just run away. The room was missing ventilation and all smelled like mould, the fan was only mixing the stinking air. There was no possibility of ventilating it as you need to close everything once you are away and during night. The tiles on the floor were detached making cracking noise every time you step on them. Rooms upstairs with ac might be much better but for us it was just so bad value for money.
- Laura (8/5): Good price and great location - Amazing location - nice and quiet but still really close to all the restaurants and centre of town.
Staff were so friendly and helpful.
Great price!
- Marella (7/5): Good but could be better - Very central and convenient for your stay in El Nido wifi working only outside the room, the room was never cleaned in a week that we stayed there and the owners are a little too pushy
- discodivaboogie (10/5): Good hotel - Hotel is clean, has warm showers, air con and a fan, really good WiFi (in the communal areas) and free tea / coffee (it’s a shame they don’t do free water - but the Artcafe does 1.5lites for 15pesos ) Towels and toiletries are provided & your room is cleaned every other day. It’s noisy as the corridors are open balcony’s but nothing ear plugs can’t fix. It’s in the middle of town so close to all the restaurants / bars etc. 5 minute walk to the beach (although you can’t swim there) Really good - would stay again and recommend
- RockPaperTravel (4/5): Owners kids ruined it - This was a decent value for money - reasonably clean. However, every morning around 6.30-6.40 am the owners several children woke us up by crying, screaming, yelling loudly, running down the hall, and one day, slamming “hot wheels” cars into our door. Even with ear plugs it was insanely loud and we couldn’t sleep. I understand kids make noise, however when you own a hotel and also live there you need to be considerate of those who are paying to be there. There was also no hot water, and wifi only on the shared balcony, not in the rooms.
- laurenm240 (2/5): Unfortunately an awful experience - We weren't expecting much from this stay at all but our room was clean which is what you need! We came into problems here on our third morning early hours when using the toilet and it wouldn't flush. Electric kept going off too which in that room without a fan was quite uncomfortable but is something that comes with visiting El Nido. We had reported problems with water a few times but still didn't really know what was happening with it. The smell in our room from the bathroom got so bad as we couldn't flush and naturally both had poorly tummies! We ended up getting so fed up of not knowing when we could shower and use our toilet that we booked another hotel up the street which is when the owner first found out about what was going on. In the owners defense the problem was easily sorted as the information hadn't been passed onto him from the staff in the hotel. He did however quickly turn nasty towards us and spoke to a member of staff in the most disgusting way I've ever saw someone being spoken to. Demanding her to pay us our money back out of her money and basically trying to make us feel uncomfortable. After hanging around for probably 20-30 minutes going around in circles he started to call us liars about reporting the problems which is when we decided this is getting ridiculous and left. Would stay anywhere else but here if you have the option to do so. The owner also owns the Indian in El Nido, think its called Ashok.
- VS_London (10/5): Good simple accommodation at a very reasonable price. - - Clean rooms, that were very cool as mostly internal-facing. Great if you like cooler temperatures while inside. Air con was very effective!
- Centrally located so walking distance to everything.
- For breakfast we went to Botanical for breakfast day, they serve great coffee too.
- We hired good scooters from the shop opposite for 500 pesos - the best quality bikes we’ve hired.
- Only annoyance was having to take shoes on and off when entering the building.
- bubbamiller99 (8/5): Friendly Place to Stay - The owners at Ashok gave us great hospitality. The rooms are very basic with comfortable bed. You don’t spend any time in your room since there’s so much activities in El Nido. I would stay here again!
- lukejanicke (6/5): Modest - Just a bed and a bathroom. Very modest. Our room had an internal window only. No window or fan in the bathroom. But it had air-con and a fan. There may be better rooms upstairs. Fine if you just need a place to crash.
- kr_kr_ro_ro (10/5): Great hotel in El Nido -HOT water - We're not quite sure if Ashok is the man or the woman but anyhow, the hotel is run by a couple. We were mostly dealing with the woman who is very lovely. She booked the tours for us and offered a discount of 200 pesos per person per tour.
The room was small but in reality you don't really need much more. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot.
There is a locker in the room but you need your own lock.
They clean the room every other day but you can ask for it to be cleaned every day or you can just ask for extras when ever you need them (new towels, toilet paper).
All day long there is coffee and tea upstairs.
The Wifi is available in the lobby and upstairs. We had the room 8 which is right beside the lobby so most of the times we could get the wifi in our room.
The hotel is situated right in the centre of the city so it is very convenient.
We totally recommend this place.
- willej2018 (8/5): Great place worthy the money - Backpacking with friends. All of us loves it. Extended the stay here many times. Clean room, good facilities, lovely staff and a WiFi that worked sometimes, which lots of other places don’t have. Good location, 7 min walk to center.
- NolwenD6 (8/5): Good but humid in the rainy season - We spend 4 nights in this homestay. The room and the bathroom were really clean. The staff is helpful and easy to talk with. Also, we were satisfied with the tour we’ve booked with them ! (Tour A- the cheapest we founded in El Nido!)
However, because of the rainy season, the room was really humide ... this is the negative point of our stay. The staff helps us to dry our clothes and can clean the room for freee if you ask
- l_ac537 (6/5): Well located for El Nido - We have stayed there for 4 nights during the rainy season. The humidity was extreme which made our bedsheets super wet all the time, and the clothes could not dry. But the staff changed and clean the room when we asked without extra fee. We have booked a Tour with the boats with them and everything was organised perfectly. It is not even 5min walk from the beach and pretty safe. I believe the place can be very nice during dry season. Also internet/ electricity can be turned off during the day/ night so get use to that.
- traveller01346 (6/5): Nice - The room was big and spacious and had lots of hooks and wardrobe space to hang up clothes. There was also a drawer to lock valuables in. The WiFi worked great and there was a powerful fan which kept the room cool at night. The bathroom was clean and the shower lovely and warm. The only downside was that the room smelt quite bad of damp and the walls were always wet. When we arrived we were told there had been an issue with the plumbing as previous guests had been flushing tissue paper, so this may have been the reason for the damp in our room.
- georgianat298 (10/5): Lovely host - We stumbled across Ashok's place after having to move from another spot. Turned out to be a good move! The room was spotless and comfortable and had the best working WiFi we found in the whole of our trip in Palawan (WiFi is a bit of a problem across the whole island). Ashok was absolutely lovely. He let us use his computer to book our flights, gave us lots of great tips and even let us leave our big bags in the homestay overnight whilst we stayed at Nacpan beach for a night. Thanks again!
- anthonykP672IL (10/5): Really felt at home - We stumbled on this place after wanting to move from a lesser accommodation nearby. Ashok and his family were amazing and the rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable with air conditioning! Free coffee all day every day and we were treated like family members during a 2 week stay. Highly recommend
- Rosaliem85 (10/5): Excellent! - Ashok is amazingly kind and helpful! The hotel is clean and well located in a quiet street. We highly recommend this place with Wi-Fi, hot water and friendly atmosphere!
Thanks for everything Ashok! 🤗
- Chanelle92 (10/5): Great location and service! - My partner and I stayed at Ashtok for 5 nights in Jan 2018. We were greeted by Ashok and his wife who were both very welcoming and friendly. Throughout our stay they couldn’t do enough for us. Ashok sorted out our boat trip, beach excursion and mini van to peurto princessa. Ashok also helped our friends with buying their tickets to Coron and made them feel very welcome when visiting us.
The location is AMAZING! So close to everything. If you’re want to be near to restaurants, bars and shops but quiet enough to not hear it from your hotel then this is the place! Literally a 5 minute walk to Trattoria Altrove (No.1 place to eat!) You can also walk to the local beach and get a tricycle to las Cabanas Beach for only 100.
Our rooms were very clean and linen and towels changed frequently.
Good WiFi and free coffee and tea.
Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in El Nido!
- AcadianCanadian85 (10/5): Basic, clean & friendly owners!! - Ashok Homestay is only a few streets behind the main road with bars & restaurant (like 2-3 min walk). Easy access. Great value for money. Rooms are spacious, clean, basic. Towels, soap, shampoo available in rooms as well as a security box (must bring a lock). 24h free coffee and tea can be found upstairs. Ashok and his wife are very friendly and helpful. I loved my stay here. I booked one of the island tours with them, great experience. (Tour A : Lagoons) most definitely recommend and lunch on boat was amazing and sufficient for everyone. Wifi available around reception area and upstairs balcony area. Thanks again for everything Ashok! :)
- Chinmay211 (8/5): basic but clean and great value for money - we ended up staying at three locations in el nido due to various reasons - last one was Ashok homestay and i have to stay it was the best value for money. Accomodation in el nido overall is pretty basic with really bad wifi/internet everywhere so wont say much about that. also all places provide tour/shuttle booking services so at par in that aspect too. What really stood out was the clean rooms with good toiletries and amenities; hot & cold showers all day; powerful aircon in the room and good security with the lockable safe box in the room. location is not on the main street but 2 min walk so not far at all. only downside i guess was no breakfast, but 24hr free coffee and tea made up for it somewhat. overall pretty good and warm and helpful hosts.
- OLIVIAMC92 (10/5): Clean hotel and friendly owners - We looked everywhere for a reasonably priced hotel in el nido that didn't have awful reviews and actually looked clean as most in our price range looked awful. Ashok homestay was very well located just a few mins away from all the restaurants and bars in a nice quite location. The place is absolutely spotless and very well maintained for el nido standards. Rooms are very basic but super clean and ashok and his wife are helpful. Booked the tours with them to save time looking around all day for the best deals and they use a very good boat company. I would recommend getting an air con room as it's worth the extra money. Thank you and the two girls at reception for making our stay amazing.
- 349ashleighj (6/5): Easy place to stay - Clean rooms and bathroom. Comfy beds and fairly quiet area apart from the cockerels in the morning. Good air con but you can't leave it on when you take the key out but you do have a fan too.
The room smells a little bit when the air con is off, a little damp but is fine when the room cools down a bit.
Good location 5 min walk to the shops and restaurants, would recommend this area to stay as any further in would be very loud.
Owners are very nice and welcoming.
Only down fall for us is no wifi.
