- Euan (8/5): Great stopover on a cycling trip - Clean, modern and warm
- Mary Ann (10/5): Great place to stay in charming Kirkwall! - Great location, walking distance to restaurants and shops, ample parking for our rental car, awesome waterfront view, well maintained property and clean, comfortable room with large bathroom. Excellent staff, every person was pleasant, helpful and professional, top notch! There is an elevator. We would definitely stay again if ever in charming Kirkwall. Breakfast was not included in the price and there didn’t seem to be an option other than the buffet, which was adequate. We did have two dinners in the restaurant, both delicious.

- Eric (8/5): - Good location All was OK

- Sandra (8/5): Comfortable and accessible. - Room was comfortable and clean . Breakfast was excellent. Location is very good. A lift is available if needed.

- Colin (9/5): - Everything Nothing
- Paul (7/5): A good choice for a short break if not seeking luxury - Breakfast and evening meals were fine, with them being well cooked. The room was functional and whilst nothing fancy met all my needs for a few days.
Plenty of staff in the dining room so you received attention promptly. Frequently there was no one on the reception so when there was the need to ask questions/seek assistant it took a little time.
A little too manic and noisy at meal times when there were large coach parties eating, after a long day exploring I would like to relax and enjoy my meal in peace.
- Jill (10/5): Excellent choice of hotel/ apartments - Very spacious apartment, light airy and spotless.
Wonderful evening meal and breakfast.
All staff very friendly. Excellent location in Kirkwall, near to harbour, shops and travel centre. Was sorry we weren't stay longer N/a

Honestly we enjoyed ourselves tremendously

- john (8/5): Good Orkney hotel - Convenience for trips around Orkney Breakfast could be improved. Eggs poorly cooked hard and rubbery need to learn to have runny yolks
- Saevar Arna (9/5): -
- John (10/5): -
- William (9/5): - Excellent location. Very quiet. Short drive to Shetland ferry dock and docks to smaller islands ferries.
- Michael (6/5): A good location and ok for a short stopover in Kirkwall - Excellent location by the waterfront and close to the bus station and cathedral. There was a good selection at the buffet breakfast, which was regularly replenished, so always fresh (the cost is additional, not included in the basic rate) The room was described as with a 'seaview' but a view of a public car park and dock would have been more accurate. It was also small for the price paid, and the walls were thin, so I was woken alternately by guests returning late to their room or leaving early in the morning.
- Richard (6/5): Okay but needs improvement - Location for work and quite nicely appointed inside. Very slow in the restaurant, took ages to be seated and get a drink, needs improved to support the footfall.
- Richard (8/5): - Location, good size room ,restaurant, variety of food.
- ross (8/5): - Clean, comfortable, and late check-in for coming off the Lerwick ferry

- Julie (8/5): Very good, clean and food was good - It was clean and the breakfast was good
- Miche (10/5): A lovely stay at The Ayre, comfortable and a lovely place to be. - The Ayre has been refurbished to a very high quality, and is a joy to stay at, and dine in! There is nothing that comes to mind that I would consider to be a dislike.
- Kieron (9/5): A regular customer and never disappointed - Reception is often not staffed and so you can end up waiting a bit, but they are always very friendly
- Shazza (5/5): Was hoping for better as looked lovely on booking.com - The hotel was very central to where you needed to go. We found the room to be very hot when we first arrived. We turned the heater off and opened the window, which helped slightly.
Unfortunately, the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept in. It was made up of two beds pushed together, which created a noticeable ridge in the middle. I even tried sleeping on the other side the next night, but it was still uncomfortable.
The view from the window was disappointing, as it looked directly into other windows facing our room. This meant we had to keep the curtains closed most of the time, even when getting dressed or coming out of the shower.
The walls also seemed very thin—we could hear people showering as if they were in our room.
We had drinks in the bar on the first night, but service was slow. We had to repeatedly look for staff whenever we wanted another drink. We also weren’t informed that there was another bar next door with more of a sports bar atmosphere.
Overall, we felt that communication on arrival could have been better. Nothing was really explained to us, and we weren’t even asked if we wanted to add breakfast to our stay.
- Jo (8/5): Great staff, spacious bedrooms would stay again. - All of the staff were friendly and obviously enjoyed their work environment. The bedrooms were spacious and the bathroom was of a good size with very hot water, The reception area was welcoming. I think their menu could do with having a few specials. We were there for 5 nights and the menu did no change. You cannot judge a book by is cover but painting the front of the hotel should be a priority
- glenn (10/5): - BIG ROOMS CLEAN BREAKFAST WAS GOOD AND DINNER S GREAT THE ONLY 1 THING I WOULD RECOMENED IS THE MATRESSES A BIT TO HARD
- MARIA (9/5): -
- Raymond (8/5): - Nice hotel and lovely staff
- Jean-philippe (10/5): - Le personnel est très accueillant, de bon conseil et serviable.
- Pamela (10/5): - Warm, comfortable room with great view of harbour.

- brian (9/5): Great place to stay, friendly staff great food - Ideally located for the town, just 2 minutes walk away. Plenty of parking. Great staff and fabulous food. No issue
- Carina (10/5): Perfect! - The staff were really friendly and helpful. The reception area was very nicely presented. I thought the hotel offered everything required. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Overall very good value for money. In addition it was located 2 mins walk from my onward ferry.
- Carl (7/5): - It was adequate for my travel Didn’t get a receipt emailed to me after my stay
- steven (10/5): -
- Brian (9/5): Impromptu weekend visit for family event - Great location. Very modern apartment in the new block opposite the main entrance to the hotel. Very warm during a cold wet weekend. Nothing really other than a very squeaky bedroom door which woke others up if you had to use the toilet in the night.
- Alaxander (8/5): -
- Carl (9/5): -
- Kaye (8/5): This is a very nice hotel with wonderful staff and a handy location. - The staff and accommodation were first class, as was its location. The only slight downside was the breakfast and we ended up going out for breakfast.
- Jane (9/5): Lovely hotel in a convenient spot with fantastic staff. - Conveniently situated in the centre of Kirkwall. It had a very welcoming atmosphere and was clean. The staff were fantastic. Very accommodating at our check in and were helpful with my child when he was in the lounge on his own. Nothing.
- C2876VQtomm (10/5): Short business trip - Stayed here for four nights, room was clean, comfortable and serviced every day, my room was in the annex which is 2 meters from main building. The food I had was lovely and certainly value for money, staff were friendly although changed most nights. Possibly the best hotel I have stayed in Kirkwall.
- Timothy (9/5): Great stay and location - Good included breakfast. View to the harbour from our room. Hot shower/bath and really nice towels. Nothing!
- Pearson (10/5): - Clean, warm and comforting
- Carol (6/5): Ok - Good location. Room small and not cosy. Too little bedding.
- Roscoe (10/5): I would stay in this hotel again provided the deal was on again - The dining room was clean and tidy and breakfast was served promptly
- RACHEL (3/5): Expensive, waste of money. - Good location for the ferries Double room was extremely tiny
Bed was up against a wall, so both persons had to get in from same side: never in my long life have I stayed in a hotel with a bed arranged in such a way: room was too small to do otherwise.
Emergency lighting too bright, I mean ridiculously bright.
- Toby (8/5): -

- gerry (10/5): Had a nice stay and will come back - Have stayed before nose friendly staff & good location Bar closed early after asking what time they did closed only to be told when I went down for a pint that they were actually closed which was about 1 & 1/2 hours earlier than they said they would 🤷🏼♂️
- Carol (9/5): Food in restaurant very tasty and presented very well. - Didn't have breakfast

- Martin (9/5): -
- Sonja (9/5): -
- Kathryn (7/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Breakfast was great, communal spaces were really nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are really tired, towels are a little old and small. Some of the bedrooms the decor needed an update , it was also sometimes difficult to find anyone on reception.
- Debra (7/5): very nice basic place within close walking distance to everything - Did nit have breakfast though it was offered. The doors inside the apartments are too heavy and wont stay open if you want them to.
- Ann (10/5): -
- Ann (9/5): Excellent place to stay. - The location and ocean view was great. The breakfast was very good. Relaxing, welcoming environment. Later check out. At 11 am
- corin (10/5): Nice accommodation and location - Clean and well presented. We arrived after last orders for restaurant but kitchen stayed open for us which we were really grateful for. Pleasant and welcoming staff Nothing negative to say
- Suzanne (9/5): -
- Roger (6/5): - Sköna sängsr Dålig frukost för £15, fanns ingen ost, skinka eller salami/korv som pålägg
- Grant (10/5): Good value in a great location. - Breakfast was excellent, staff were very helpful. Lounge and bar as well as restaurant, good facilities and the hotel location is brilliant. Free parking with plenty of space available
- diablodetasmania (8/5): - Reception staff unhelpful and not friendly.
- Janice (9/5): Last minute booking to catch an early flight after being snowed in, so it was unexpected but pleasur - We had a family meal in restaurant which was delicious Nothing
- Johan (9/5): comfortable stay at the sea side of Kirkwall - good beds! strict rules for breakfast, don't try and show up early!
- Eyre (7/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Lovely comfortable stay at The Ayre. Stunning inside. - The Ayre Hotel is a lovely place and I would stay again. It was really just a base for us this time as we had lots of plans with family so we didn't get a chance to go to restaurant but it looked lovely. We had a drink in the lounge and it is gorgeous, good cocktails. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. This is just a personal thing but I would have liked if breakfast was a bit later, the latest to go is 9.30am. We had quite late nights so were enjoying a wee sleep in but it did not really bother us, it's just the only thing I remember thinking, I thought 10.30am would maybe be a typical breakfast time but it could have been for staffing reasons etc, it didn't spoil it at all, we chose to sleep in!
- Mark (9/5): Really good - Central location right in the town. Rooms were clean, warm and spacious.
- Graham (5/5): -
- Malcolm (8/5): Served its purpose! - Dinner was perfectly adequate; nothing exceptional. Breakfast was excellent. Room more than adequate. Room ventilation fan was very noisy.
- EUNICE-IDOWU (9/5): Welcoming - It’s like a home away from home Every thing was closed on Christmas Day and boxing day
- Kopchak (10/5): -
- Hayley (10/5): - Great location and. super staff. Even on a really busy night they kept their cool and made sure everyone was well looked after Nothing
