Guest Reviews
- Patricia (8/5): Good for short stay - It's minimalistic Light filtering through after closing the blinds

- Amanda (4/5): Disappointing - would not stay there again. - The staff were lovely and the sheets were clean. The room was extremely hot but as the windows cannot be opened fully, the lovely woman on reception lent me a desk fan to use which was a lifesaver the first night. The location was helpful as there was a bus stop very close. A £3/night service charge was puzzling as it is made clear that rooms are not cleaned each night and you are directed to clean up after yourself in the kitchen/common room.
Wi-fi never worked, despite email requests to sort it and it was the same for other people staying in that flat.
Small bag of tea and coffee was nice touch when arrived but the kettle in the kitchen was filled with scale and I was sick after drinking a brew made using it before I thought to check inside the kettle.
Mini shower gel and toilet roll provided but no soap?? - I had to go out as soon as I arrived just to buy some soap for the bathroom - not very hygienic. I can understand environmental concerns but there are ways to ensure basic hygiene still.
- Saumyadripta (10/5): Its a wonderful place to stay. Both Thumbs UP!! - It was a wonderful stay. The staff was very supportive and helped me out beyond their scope. The room was clean with good tables and chairs, I really needed for my work, with lots of power ports. Toilets were also very clean. The kitchen was great and super convenient to use. The stay made me feel at home. Will look forward to any future stay whenever I get the chance to visit Brighton. I came from India for a conference and was a bit apprehensive, but the stay made me very comfortable. Also, the location is right next to two main bus stops that have buses going directly to the Brighton station or towards the pier/ university. So a super good place to stay if visiting Brighton. There is a strict timing for checking in at or after 3. This is difficult for international travellers like me who seldom have the chance or the opportunity to time their travel perfectly. So having travelled for more than 15 hours, I still had to wait for another 3-4 hours before I could check in.
Looking at this challenge, it would be good if there were options provided for early check-in. Since the booking was done nearly 2-3 months ago, there can be an option that allowed for more flexible check-in or change the timing of check-in. This will make it perfect for future guests who may not have the opportunity to time their travel. However, for the convinience of the staff, additional requirement like informing beforehand atleast 1-2 weeks ago or something similar can be applied to ensure this feature.
- sarabjit (7/5): Great location at a great price - Location was great. Around the corner from the bus stop.
Kitchen- useful to have access to fridge, kettle and microwave.
Friendly reception staff.
Can leave luggage there after check-out and collect later.
Good amount of space for a single traveller.
Towels and extra toilet rolls available. The kettle needed descaling.
The shower is fixed whereas personally I prefer a shower head that can be moved around
No cooking pans or utensils- although description says these would be available so cooking wasn't possible
- andy (8/5): Perfect for what I required it for. - The communal kitchen was a bonus. It was easy to walk from the railway station. There was also a bus stop at the door. The bathroom desperately needed a towel rail.
- Michael (8/5): -
- VIDA (5/5): They should consider basic needs to the provision.
Mixed feelings - It was easy to get to with bus. As a basic need you will expect little things like bathroom accessories and ironing for your stuff. I had one night of stay in another student accommodation and it was fantastic as compared to this one. I had basic needs for the bathroom and iron for my clothes. It would be great if they have basic stuff as part of it. They should bear in mind we are not students who are expected to bring everything. This is more like bed and breakfast. Many thanks
- James (7/5): Good value, good location - Great value for en suite rooms and close enough to walk where you need to. It was very warm, with no ability to leave windows open or anyway to circulate aim through the room. And the beds we not built for heavier / taller people.
- John (7/5): -
- Maike (7/5): - Sehr nettes Personal
- SANDRINE (10/5): - I really appreciated the quality of accomodation... The staff at réception was so lovely. I was given a welcome bag once arriving at Brighton University. I can recommend Phoenix Halls University. Thank you again and see you next time for a 'fish and chips break'! Nothing
- Shawn (8/5): Enjoyable Brighton stay - A near central location, close to the North Laines, with a couple of great pubs just up the road. Comfortable, single room. Very secure. The little welcome pack with water, tea, coffee and biscuits is a nice touch and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Although the price has risen considerably since I first stayed here (that’s Brighton), I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
- matteo (10/5): -
- Patrick (7/5): Very enjoyable, as always. - A convenient central location. A comfortable en-suite study-bedroom. Some of the cutlery in the communal kitchen should have been replaced. There were blunt knives and tin openers.
- Peter (10/5): - The Staff were absolutely Fantastic! I was very impressed. Always available, helpful, kind, considerate, thoughtful and professional. Well done! ❤️🙏❤️👍
- Tony (8/5): -
- Jimmy Q (7/5): Perfect crash pad for a weekender. - Perfectly good accomodation, it's a students room in halls, but the single bed was comfortable, shower hot, room quiet and location excellent for my needs. I was down for a weekend of events so tbh spent little time asleep but for changing and washing met all my needs. Blinds could do with changing to actually block out the sunlight if you want a lay in.
- DESMOND (7/5): - Location and Parking was great. Room very basic but staff were very pleasant and helpful on reception. A very nice touch on receiving a goody bag upon arrival from the young lady on reception. No Toiletries, No TV. Must be an easier way of booking the parking because it was a complicated and timely on arrival which is the last thing you need after a journey.
- David (8/5): Basic, clean, tidy and good location for visiting Brighton. - Basic university halls of residence. Clean tidy room with shower and WC. Great place to stay over the bank holiday weekend, close to central and coastal Brighton. As I say, it's a basic single room in a university residence. Though no TV or tea & coffee making in room, however, didn't spend a lot of time in the room.
- Rennick (8/5): Very good. - Lovely, helpfully staff. Excellent secure parking. The bed, no head board and up against the window. Mattress sank in the middle.
- Jayne (8/5): Great accomodation..would stay again - Excellent location, great value for money, great to be able to share with a large group of friends and still have your own space and bathroom Nothing atall
- My Name is Joe Tucker (10/5): - Every thing was great 👍 N/A
- Michael (8/5): -
- issatu (5/5): Short. Fun. Strange - Truthfully, nothing. I think the block we were put in wasn’t nice at all, nor spacious — it felt like we were on top of each other the entire time. But it wasn’t far from the town, so that was nice, as well as the welcome pack. How we found it was revolting — the previous damages were just not what I was expecting; disappointing, if anything. Also, when coming to check in, we were waiting for about 20–30 minutes because the two staff members were sorting out a group that hadn’t booked previously, which I don’t think is fair, as we had everything ready and were still made to wait.
- Richard (7/5): Good rooms for decent price. - The location and the price
- David (8/5): - Very clean basic accommodation in an excellent location in Brighton. Each room.has its own unsuited bathroom, and there is a shared kitchen. Everything is clean. The beds are a bit flimsy.
- Josianne (10/5): - Great location. Very friendly staff. Very nice room for the price. Nothing
- Iacono (8/5): -
- Gunborg (8/5): - Mysigt med kök i korridoren. Fanns det mesta. Ingen sänglampa, bara lysrör i taket!
- Francesco (9/5): -
- Francesca (10/5): -
- Samuel (9/5): -
- Jean Philippe (10/5): - - Emplacement
- Appartement complet
- Cuisine (commune) équipé - Pas de nettoyage quotidien
- Siofra (8/5): Really enjoyable stay with great facilities. - Location was great it was a 20min walk to the lanes and 10min walk from the train station. Stayed here as a group for a tournament and it was perfect for what we needed. Beds are singles and not the most comfortable but if you're not fussy its perfect for a couple of nights. Bed wasn't very comfortable and at 5ft 3 I found it quite short.
- G. (9/5): Good for a few days - Good located, friendly staff ( they provide you with a welcome baggie.) The shower not having a separate ground (but understandable why) and the cleaning could be improved a little. (Found a dead mosquito near the window)
- Alasdair (8/5): -
- cassie (10/5): -
- Sally (8/5): -
- Simon (6/5): - The room had everything needed. The bed was comfortable and the welcome bag was a nice touch. Access to kitchen facilities was good. Excellent location. Internet was slow, quite often wouldn't connect.
- Michael (8/5): -
- Bawono Budi (9/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Samantha (7/5): Budget and simple but a good option and would stay again - It was really clean and the staff were lovely The lighting was horrendous - so bright and no bed side light, very few toiletries. Bed was quite hard. Bit noisy but generally ok.
- Micael (9/5): Very Satisfied - The room was nice and clean. The people in reception were very nice and welcoming. Good location too, as it was close to everything in general. We are provided with free WiFi. However, it didn't seem to work.
- Gabriel (5/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): The hidden gem of Brighton - Fantastic location, bus stops so close and others across the park too, so never short of getting somewhere fast. The Halls are cleaned daily, and everyone friendly and helpful… What a gem in Brighton! In fact, I will be back for 2 nights in 2 weeks 😍 yay!!! Thank you for an excellent stay that felt homely. The bed defo needs a new mattress 😅 every movement echoed of springs dislodging somewhere 😂 but it was not a train smash or put me off, in fact on a really tired day, I barely noticed.
- Claudia (7/5): Einfache, gute Unterkunft in guter Lage.
- Susan (7/5): - I like the informal atmosphere.

- Siraj (10/5): - I recently had the pleasure of visiting Phoenix Halls, and I wanted to express my appreciation for the wonderful experience I had. Upon my arrival, I was warmly greeted by the manager, who took the time to show me around the facility. Her welcoming demeanor and extensive knowledge made the tour both enjoyable and informative.
I was particularly impressed by her attentiveness and willingness to answer all my questions, which made me feel valued as a visitor. The halls themselves were immaculate, with a lovely ambiance that added to the overall atmosphere.
I highly recommend Phoenix Halls not only for its beautiful setting but also for the exceptional service provided by the staff.
- Last (8/5): Very nice place very peaceful great structure - The care of the staff how polite they where. Aswell as the safety of the place. How people can essentially take there wigs off and put them down the drain, clean up afyer yourself
- Suzanne (9/5): -
- Sam (8/5): Perfect and relaxing - Close to all local attractions Na
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Suzanne (9/5): -
- Laura (3/5): Flooded interconnected bathrooms - Location was really good. The bathrooms drains didn't work from the moment we arrived. When my friend from the next room had a shower in her bathroom, my bathroom flooded and the drain didn't work properly. We reported to the staff (very friendly staff) and they tried to fix it, but it didn't really work out and we had to use the toilet in our flooded bathrooms. They never followed up with the issue or offered us a solution.
- Orla (10/5): -
- Barbara (2/5): Never again. If it was not for the friendly staff except one would have left first day. - The location was good. The staff were lovely The bed was dirty stained. The carpet smelled and rubbish under bed. The bathroom and shower were dirty. The shower curtain was unclean. The taps in sink was dirty. No Welcome bag was given to me. Other guests had them. I had to request one. One member of staff was sullen and unfriendly which was a shame as rest of team were lovely friendly and polite. Old damaged dirty kettle that badly needed de-scaling. I tried to clean but too old had to request another kettle was given no problem but should have been aware very overused and old. It felt the whole accomodation was casually cleaned and not much effort to make it feel comfortable clean.
- AP (9/5): pay for what you get. cheap and cheerful - clean and friendly staff Soy milk as a condiment for hot drinks
- Mike (9/5): - Super Platz wenn man nur Schlafen will.
Man fühlt sich sicher. Das Rollo am Bett
- Dan (9/5): - Locatia buna zona centrala
Pret bun .
- laura (9/5): Soggiorno molto apprezzato - Tutto perfetto, camera abitabilissima e servizi buoni, compresa accoglienza e staff. niente
- Steph (7/5): Average - Okay People smoking drugs in there rooms
stank, till I complained. I moved floors.
- Steph (4/5): Average - Pigeons flying into the kitchen, windows left really wide open.
- Steph (9/5): Comfortable Stay - It was okay Liked everything
- Steph (5/5): - .laundry facilities to awkward to access in a different building.
This property was the one without a lift in there complex, I am disabled

- Robert (10/5): Golf trip - Perfect location for a group golf trip
- Chappell (8/5): Always welcoming up to a known standard. - Great location.
Been coming for 12 years No free parking anymore and the value for money is now becoming questionable.
- Michael (10/5): City centre at inexpensive price - On site secure inexpensive parking was a huge bonus Nothing - all good
- Alec (5/5): -
- Samantha (8/5): - Private room and kitchen facilities.
- Patrick (8/5): A nice quiet room at the rear of the Halls (Block C, Flat 9, Room 7) and convenient for the city. - The location was excellent. At home I have a hard mattress, so I found the soft mattress difficult for sleeping. Also, I found the price increase from last year a bit steep.
- Matt (7/5): -
- Torquil (9/5): -
- Brian Leslie (10/5): - Fantastic place well placed for everything that we were attending.
- steve (9/5): - The single room was clean, linen was fresh and the shower was excellent. It is after all student accommodation during term time so exceeded my expectation. Secure parking is available and the location is within a 15 minute walk to most attractions. All good
Ingen frukost buffe, inget gym, ingen simbassäng
- russell (10/5): - Friendly staff, secure parking, close to the beach Shower tiles (grouting) not very clean, cobwebs and peeling paint in the kitchen area. Also people staying in our block paid less per night than we did
- AHMAD (5/5): - central location within walking distance to the main attractions, city and beaches the initial booking about parking
- Graham (10/5): -
- Michael (8/5): - Close to town, and very helpful staff.
- Alba (7/5): -
- Mason (10/5): Great value for money - Great location, friendly staff and brilliant for the price.
- Lyds (5/5): Okay if you need mega cheap - Friendly staff, close the north lanes and main station Terrible bed, weird washroom and very thin walls
