Guest Reviews
- Liz (9/5): We’ll happily return! - Great location with lovely views out in two different directions. Comfy bed and good room facilities. Excellent breakfast and staff who were friendly and helpful with anything we needed. Nothing to not like! The only point would be to be aware that lovely room 5 has a deep bath (no shower) and can be a bit of a challenge to get out of!!
- Jennifer (8/5): - Location
- angus (9/5): Lovely short break in lovely Southwold - Lovely room, over a nice pub/ restaurant. Location perfect. Had supper which was very good. Breakfast very good. Only comment is that breakfast didn’t start until 9.
- Jamie (7/5): Weekend in Southwold - Nice breakfast included in the price
Short walk to the shops
Everything needed in the rooms
Friendly staff
Would be happy to book again A little overpriced but everywhere is in Southwold
Room needs a bit more cleaning.(cobwebs on ceiling and lots of dust behind radiator but Room generally to a good standard.
On busy days had to pay for parking but free overnight
- David (8/5): - Nice place to stay for a few days. Staff excellent
- Jane (9/5): Great location, delicious food and reasonable price for Southwold. - Location was just across the road from the dunes and beach. Only a short walk to town centre. Staff were great. Food in the pub was excellent.
- Julie (9/5): Very nice room, location and restaurant all good with beach walks outside - Friendly, comfortable stay overlooking the coast
- Neville (9/5): A lovely stay made extra special by the wonderful staff - Brilliant staff at every level of contact. Wonderful location right on the beach. Fantastic food that exceeded expectations A small point but I think a simple shower in the room would have been preferable to the large bath with shower head option
- Tony (10/5): Excellent stay at The Sail Loft with great service and food - The staff were all excellent.
The room was very comfortable.
The breakfasts were both good and we were able to add to the options given.
We had one dinner which was also very good quality and cooked well Nothing
- RUTH (9/5): -
- Kay (8/5): Excellent short break in a wonderful location, - Large (6ft) bed, soft towels, beautiful coastal location and superb breakfasts. Bathroom mirror could have been lower.
- Mark (9/5): Had a great three day break nice room great location good food - Staff very good Floor boards quite creaky
- Helen (7/5): - Great location; excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Only downside was the very thin walls and ceiling where you could hear every conversation and every footstep.
- jamescunningham (9/5): we shall be back... - having stayed several times already, we have booked another visit, great times thanks James parking was a problem first day, suggestion when car park full should be able to get voucher from bar to park next door ?

- anje (10/5): -
- Paul Tovell (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- penny (8/5): Lovely - Comfortable
Friendly staff
- Bronsdon (8/5): - Very clean. Great bathroom and bedroom. Breakfast only starts 09:30 every morning. No evening meal on Sundays very inconvenient having to find open restaurant in town not always easy .a
- Lesley (9/5): - Good location next to beach. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Breakfast was also good. You could hear music from the restaurant below in the room but that did stop by around 9pm
- marilyn (10/5): -
- Sophie (10/5): 2nd great stay at the Sail Loft - Really friendly staff, great food and accommodation. This was our second stay there and will book again next year. Perfect location with just a short stroll to the town.
- Maxine (10/5): - Great location. The place was spotless. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout. The food at the Sail Loft is excellent Overall, a really enjoyable experience and I’d definitely recommend it.
- Hazel (9/5): Loved Southwold - everything we wanted to do was in walking distance from the Sail Loft so we didn’t need to get in the - Great location, nice clean rooms, friendly staff and great breakfast too which was offered to 1100 which was great. Nothing to report.
- Andrew (10/5): Not the most luxurious place that I have stayed in but probably the best experience. The staff were wonderful and the fo - Perfect location and beautiful views from room number 5. Very clean and comfortable. No shower in the bedroom but the bath was huge.
- Robin G Wilson (10/5): Great one stop shop hotel for an excellent stay in Southwold - Staff amazing. Food amazing. Great location and very nice comfortable room
- Clare (9/5): -
- Adrian (8/5): Nice stay great food - The Food is excellent, the staff despite being super busy have time for everyone and the location is perfect for beach walks. Good place to stay away from the bustle of southwold centre. Room was tired , needs some decor tweaks, although not grubby it felt like it was, floor was creaky and accomodation a little overpriced.
- Alex (10/5): Perfect beach getaway - The location is perfect. Watched the sunset from the garden and the sunrise from the bedroom Nothing
- Christine (6/5): Schöne Lage, nette Zimmer, leckeres Essen, irritierende Mitarbeiter. Seltsam.
- Paul Tovell (10/5): -
- Huw (8/5): -
- Marie (9/5): - Good location , lovely food , friendly /helpful staff .
- derryn (5/5): In a good location easy parking. Room very basic, a bath in a bedroom doesn’t make it a superior room, breakfast good as - Location Booked a superior room but room very basic. There was no comfortable chair in the room. Just 2 dining chairs. The bath in the bedroom with a shower that easily covered the floor with water. Cobwebs on the toilet door. Room not made up. Though supplies and clean towels were delivered to the room. Apparently we had left the do not disturbed sign was left on the door. Breakfast didn’t start until 9.30 that was too late. I could go on but won’t. Will not stay again should have stayed at a hotel I’ve stayed at before.
- Lisa (8/5): The Sail Loft was a perfect short stay with great proximity to the beach. Bonus was the inclusive breakfast - Proximity to the sea Nothing
- Lisa (9/5): Great property, friendly staff and good value for money. - Lovely property just a short walk from a beautiful town. The room was adequately equipped and clean and warm.
The staff were all very friendly, kind and helpful. Great value for money. I would highly recommend a stay here. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the property, however a full English breakfast would be a welcome addition to the breakfast menu.
- Emily (8/5): -
- Harry (9/5): - Unlimited breakfasts for guests were excellent.
- Tony (8/5): We really did enjoy our stay but didn’t realise that for some reason Southwold isn’t far of London prices. - Location, Quiet, Breakfast, Parking Value for money was questionable perhaps? £360 for 2 nights?
- Deborah (9/5): The team at the Sail Loft were excellent - Lovely location, excellent team, great breakfast every morning All good
- neil (10/5): Absolutely loved it - The breakfast was great.
Lovely food, fresh and hot. Everything was good nothing bad about anything there.
- Gerard (10/5): Suffolk Retreat - Great accommodation. Very clean and comfortable within easy reach of Southwold.
Fab breakfast would recommend the French toast. No bar in the evening as out of season when we stayed but not too far to walk to the nearest pub.
So no problem.
- Toby (10/5): -
- Sillett (10/5): Outstanding b& b - Fantastic b&b, great locations, great food, fantastic facilities, staff were excellent. I very highly recommend 👌 👍
- Janet (8/5): -
- Jacquie (10/5): -
- Emily (9/5): A very lovely night away the room with the bathtub with a view! Room has absolutely everything you need - In a great location overlooking the sea and close to the town. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Decor. Personal taste, but odd looking paint outside and very gray/plain inside.
- Julia (8/5): Was a lovely place in a great position. - Lovely location opposite the beach. Staff very friendly and helpful. The floor was very creaky, but it looked an old building. There were a few areas that needed a more thorough clean.
- Hilary (9/5): The room was clean & catered for everything you needed. Comfortable beds & staff very helpful. - Very close to the beach. Good parking facilities.
Ten minute walk to the town. Awesome views.
Good places to eat.
- Susan (8/5): -
- Christine (7/5): Great place for friendly staff and pub type food. Good area for walkers. Welcomed dogs and owners. - Breakfast very large and slightly elaborate. Would have liked plain yoghurt, fresh fruit and ordinary toast to also be available on menu. Staff excellent, helpful and exceptionally polite. Room comfortable and clean. Would have liked a chair for relaxing rather than two dining room type chairs? Had a balcony but over the kitchen and next to extractor so smelly. Mat under bed needed updating as 'appeared' to be stained by shoe use? Nowhere to hang outdoor coats as hook broken.
- David (9/5): Comfortable lovely situated clean apartment - Situation just right peaceful easy access to beach town and country side, good parking and comfortable This time of year shut for food 3.0 pm some days
- Susan (10/5): Fantastic stay - Lovely staff gorgeous room with a really comfortable bed.nice views.lunch here was the best ever as was breakfast. Will be back soon Nothing at all
- Pamela (9/5): Comfortable stay, great food. - Room was lovely and location was perfect, right opposite the beach. Staff in the restaurant were very polite and helpful. Limited free parking available. Opening times for the bar/restaurant were limited, maybe due to season, but was half marathon weekend. Breakfast starts at 9.30 which was too late on the Sunday. Food served only until 3pm on Sundays too. Wasn't a problem as there are other places to eat, but we really liked the menu here. 😊
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Debbie (10/5): Lovely place to stay, amazing food. - Great position overlooking the sea, lovely clean comfortable room with added extras. Staff couldn’t do enough to make our stay special, and the food is some of the best we be ever had. Definitely staying again for next years half marathon, if not before Nothing
- Ben (10/5): -
- William (9/5): Delightful friendly stay close proximity to beach. - Warm welcome on arrival. Very spacious room with a beautiful bath. Lovely sea view and breakfast was delicious None
- Claire (9/5): Would definitely recommend a stay at this lovely place. - We have stayed here several times now and we enjoy the consistently welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are clean, comfortable and good value, including an amazing breakfast. The staff are a delight and if you want dinner (pay on top of your stay), the food is really good. Looking forward to our next visit😃 Nothing
- Malcolm (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay and if hadn’t been the welcome given to dogs it would have been perfect - The food was excellent and good variety and unusual They had a dog policy but no dog free areas.
- Lani (7/5): It was nice, the food is very good and the rooms are good, but not great. - The food is excellent and the staff are attentive. The room was very hot on the first night and the windows were locked. The fan in the bathroom didn’t work and the hairdryer nearly caught on fire.
- Lorna (9/5): We had an excellent short break - The room was set spacious and clean.
Comfortable bed.
Breakfast to set us up for the day. Nothing
- Roderick (10/5): Just great. - The views were excellent the room was a great size. The staff were welcoming and very friendly and helpful. Food was very good both in the evening and breakfast.
- Geoffrey (1/5): Extremely disappointed. Had we known we would not have booked. - The room was good, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. It does not operate as a hotel. The entire hotel was closed from mid afternoon until morning. There were no staff present on arrival, no restaurant, reception or bar facilities open. Keys were left in an unlocked security box by the back door. The location is around half a mile out of town down an unlit street and because the weather was extremely wet we were relying on eating in the restaurant. As the entire hotel was closed there was no option but to drive into town to find somewhere to eat. Not what we wanted. There is no mention of the odd hours in the hotel description and they had even sent an email after booking the stay to recommend reserving a table as it could be very busy.
- Paul (2/5): It was a good place to stay great location and staff very friendly. - Breakfast was great perhaps they could have a better selection of bread. We had dinner and it was good value for the money. The bath in the room no shower. Probably our fault didnt read the room selection.
- Lauren (10/5): - Friendly staff, easy checkin, very clean and tidy, breakfast was included and was great quality produce, made us feel right at home, lovely location
- Karen (10/5): Staff fantastic - Conveniently located All good
- maggie (10/5): Perfect stay - Loved the room and location staff were really helpful. Breakfast was delicious Nothing
- Triple_T (9/5): Perfect short break stay - Great Breakfast, which was included even though our Booking.com confirmation said it was not !
Good parking.. nothing
- Janet (9/5): A comfortable and convenient place near the town - Good choice of dishes at dinner. Very quick service. Friendly and helpful staff. Bedside light could be brighter.
- sam (7/5): -
- Jean (9/5): A relaxing out of season stay - Breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
- Wendy (8/5): It was a good relaxing stay. - Breakfast was amazing, good options available. Good view from room, very clean. Everything was fine, nothing I didn’t like.
- Nick (9/5): Lovely location, comfortable room, welcoming and efficient staff team - Wonderful location - views of sea and countryside. Appreciated having the heating on! Comfortable room. Welcoming staff
- Stephen (10/5): Great stay - wonderful breakfast - would like to eat there as menu looked really good - Lovely room with great views.
Very comfortable bed and short walk to Southwold.
Parking perfect and very peaceful and quiet.
Breakfast was so tasty and just perfect and coffee was really good Nothing - it was quiet as off season and not open in evening but that was fine as it suited us
- Merv (9/5): -
- Paine (8/5): Very pleasant . I will return. - The breakfast was excellent - not multiple courses as at other venues but plenty of a single course Handrail height to the top floor is too low. Bath with shower - not warned in advance - no separate shower - not easy when elderly.
- Rob (10/5): Great value - Food was amazing
- Margaret (10/5): - There is nothing we could fault. Lovely room. Clean. Comfy bed. Everything we needed.
Food was amazing. Staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. Nothing.
- Kelleher (9/5): Nice visit - Nice staff nice location Needs a bit of tlc in the room
- DENISE (9/5): Fantastic chilled place to recharge after Christmas. Felt really well looked after, thank you - Wanted a central location but not in the centre. Parking was good and a most enjoyable walk to the pier. The staff couldn’t of been more friendly and helpful There was nothing I didn’t like, I will be back
- Mick (9/5): -
- paul (9/5): A great find, a wonderful stay, fantastic food and we would definitely consider staying again!!! - The breakfast was outstanding and a good choice.
Nice size room and very comfy mattress. Lovely fluffy towels and a nice extra getting kitkats/biscuits with coffee and tea!! Good room service every day too.
The restaurant food was really good too and all the staff were so friendly! The pillows looked plump until you lay on them and they go totally flat. I would have given a higher rating for ‘Comfort’ if not for the pillows. I gained a bad neck and shoulder sadly due to no support from the pillows. I should have said something but didn’t want to make a fuss.
- Alex (10/5): Outstanding staff customer service. Great place to celebrate NYE - Quirky, well kept rooms, outstanding atmosphere in the restaurant. No shower in the bedroom. (Bath was amazing though)
- Geoffrey (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent breakfast Nothing
- Thomas (8/5): - Breakfast, lunch and dinner all excellent
- Helen (10/5): Fun time in Southwold - It was room only with no breakfast as they didnt offer breakfast on Xmas day
Very modern room, super comfy bed with patio. We took our own continental breakfast and ate it in the room with the patio doors open.
Only a few steps away from the beach. Bracing walk before breakfast N/A
- Dr Mike (10/5): - Welcoming Nothing
- Lauren (9/5): -
- Josephine (10/5): Ideal location - comfortable rooms - staff great - breakfast delicious - Staff very friendly & helpful- great breakfast each morning Nothing
- Paul (8/5): -
- Kim (10/5): - Easy access
- Chris (8/5): Really good couple of days - Great location, attentive staff, comfortable and generous
- Dennis (9/5): Excellent clean and warm accommodation with very helpful staff without being overwhelming. Hopefully will return at some - Entrance to the accommodation was through a separate door so you did not have to walk through bar area. It’s position halfway between the town and harbour was ideal as we very use our car during a stay anywhere just walk. It did not affect us as I said we walk everywhere, but the free car parking is limited. There is a large car park adjacent but charges apply.
- Vincent (10/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Jennie (10/5): Great food, friendly staff, very comfortable room - Friendly and comfortable
- Alison (10/5): Great location, fab food & friendly staff thank-you for such a lovely stay - Staff were superb, welcoming, friendly and chatty Nothing to dislike
- Kate (8/5): Lovely. - The location and the staff were superb. Due to the time of year, the bar wasn’t open very late.
