Guest Reviews
- Matthew (9/5): Last minute stay - We were at a wedding within walking distance only a 5 min walk from cooling castle barn.
Luckly this place had space, Kevin the owner did all he could to help and was very welcoming.
Lovely pub. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, flat screen TV. Shower/toilet was clean and shower had good temperature and pressure.
Would recommend đ Only negative was that only 2 tea bags were provided there was coffee and hot chocolate but we like a tea before bed and a couple in the morning.
No doubt if I asked more would've been provided. So heads up if you're also a tea lover.
- Barry (4/5): Very Disappointing - Nothing Like The 5 star Reviews - Breakfast good. Waitress in the evening was a breath of fresh air. Location in remote small village - further from Rochester than we thought. Drab building, untidy car park. Spooky stuffed animal theme in bar. Dreary grey bedroom, 1970s bathroom with no shaving socket. Paid for two "king" rooms, one was far too small to be a "king"! Expensive evening meal was just very average pub grub.
- kevin (9/5): If youâre exploring the North Kent Marshes itâs an ideal base or if youâre attending a wedding at the very close by Cool - The Stable Cottage was warm, cosy and clean with great views across the countryside.
- Teah (10/5): Was lovely - Itâs well kept and tidy. Friendly staff and room was great Bit far from other amenities but itâs expected.
- Ellis (10/5): Lovely country pub, a great stay, exactly what you hope for! - Really lovely staff, clean, modern room, lovely country pub. Great morning breakfast and fab coffee! Thank you! N/a

- steel (10/5): Quality place , lovely staff , would definitely stay again - Lovely traditional pub with plenty of character and warm welcome , staff friendly and attentive, room immaculate with lovely view , breakfast excellent
- Anne (10/5): - Lovely friendly pub with spotless rooms and really nice breakfasts included in price!
Plenty of parking
- Janet (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Nice and clean and with the pub opposite us was very handy for food and drink .. The Sunday roast was probably the best weâve ever had and great portion size . Near to the castle barn where we attended a wedding Not near a local shop it was in the next village so stock up if you need extra if you decide to cook yourselves
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely room
Friendly owners
Great food - both evening meal and breakfast Nothing I didn't like worthy of mention
- Steven (8/5): - Good breakfast.
Easy parking.
10 minute walk to wedding venue.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Perfect - Everything perfect for us great host
- Matthew (10/5): -
- DEREK (10/5): Excellent choice for our little mini break in the Rochester area. Ticks all the boxes. - Everyone was very weloming and special thanks go to the chef who went the extra mile to accomodate my wifes dietry problems (due to cancer). Real ale at the bar was an extra bonus. Room had been recently and thoughtfully refurbished and the shower was probably the best Ive had anywhere, no shortage of hot water. Roads to the village are pretty narrow and winding but that is hardly the landlords fault and it did mean that the village was amazingly peaceful. I was fully aware of its rural location when I booked.
- Craig (9/5): -
- Cheri (10/5): Wish We Could Have Stayed Longer - Beautiful property that made the downstairs feel like 3 distinct areas. The bedrooms were just as pictured if not better & a beautiful view.
We were there for a wedding near Cooling Castle, it was perfectly located for that. The breakfast was fantastic - I loved the variety of options - and the âsnackâ food was delicious (and filling).
There is also 2 adorable kitties on site that like to spend time in the beer garden - very sweet and friendly! Nothing - was a wonderful stay and just wish I could have stayed longer.
- John (10/5): - What a great place, it was very clean, Kevin and the staff were really helpful and couldnât do enough for us. I wold highly recommend this place

- Donnarae (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (8/5): Would stay again and hopefully didnât cook on next time. - Easy to park, quaint friendly pub, very clean room. Breakfast. Overcooked English breakfast. Such a shame. Not sure if it would be the usual chef?
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Food was amazing Room over kitchen was a bit noisy
- Lisa (10/5): Quintessential Country Pub - Such a lovely country pub. Gorgeous views staff and owner so accommodating and welcoming. We will definitely come back and stay. Food was delicious
- Runnacles (10/5): Exceptional - Stayed in stable cottage for 2 nights to attend friends wedding at castle barns. Lovely cottage with everything you need for a self catering break including your own private courtyard area. Could have done with an anti slip mat in upstairs bathroom for when using shower but that's purely a me thing being slightly unbalanced at times đ.
- James (10/5): - Stayed here while going to a friends wedding in the local area. Created to really friendly staff and check in was a breeze. The room was compact but had everything we needed, comfy bed and even a little hamper with slippers, teas coffee and milk.
Hotel is above a pub though thereâs a separate entrance so coming and going was easy.
Would recommend if youâre near by.
- Carol (9/5): Very good service, facilities and location. - Good location and facilities Nothing found
- David (6/5): Satisfactory - Fine Pillows were too firm
- Derek (9/5): Superb -

- Vicky (10/5): A great stay and we highly recommend! Make sure you make time for lunch, you wonât be disappointed. - Great stay! Room was spotless, comfortable with lovely views. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. We had lunch on arrival and breakfast that was included. We were very impressed with our meals and everything was very very fresh.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - All great thanks

- Sarda (8/5): Very good - The hosts were really good... There should have been a restaurant which we got unlucky as there was no chef available

- Ellen (10/5): 10/10 would recommend - Fantastic location to stay for cooling castle barn weddings. Staff and property are fantastic

- Maya (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): Very good - Very good Nothing to complain about.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (9/5): I would definitely visit again and recommend to friends. I am also keen to eat at the restaurant - Room was lovely, well decorated, very clean and mostly very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff were lovely, helpful, and friendly. The pillows were so thick that they were uncomfortable and were unable to sleep comfortably. That was a very small moan in what was otherwise an excellent stay.
- Katharine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ma (5/5): Good location, bathroom poor but food excellent - The location was ideal for a wedding at Cooling Barn. Comfortable bed. Food was excellent both evening meal and breakfasts though the fly invasion on Sunday morning was not so good. Itâs a pub that rests in its history but so many aspects could be updated without taking the history away. Every member of staff who dealt with us (all the girls) were efficient polite and helpful. Old property that needed at lot of updating. No water pressure in en-suite bathroom sink so no water there - couldnât even fill the room kettle. Shower erratic. Full of every conceivable small flying insect but too hot to close windows. Small car park and a request in room details to take car to wedding to allow car park to be used by patrons. As paying guests we left our car there. Late night outside pub noise went on well after midnight.
- Rona (8/5): Food was superb, very friendly staff - Lovely little English pub
- Ian (5/5): Pleasant but expensive and needs some issues addressed - Location worked well for us following a day in Rochester and then being convenient for hiking the coast path the following day.
Friendly staff.
Recently refurbished room. Clean and comfortable.
Good quality, tasty, meals. Really not good value at ÂŁ165 for a single night. The main light dimmer didn't work in the room, so we endured a floodlit bedroom. The bedside lamps didn't work either.
As the weather was very hot we tried to sleep with the windows open but the neighbours were having a party in their garden until 01.30, also, the kitchen extractor was immediately below our window and so there were continuous food smells.
For convenience, we decided to have our evening meal in the pub. Service was extremely slow and the food only arrived after I chased them after around 45 minutes from the order.
- Carl (10/5): Lovely place - Great place to stay. Breakfast was spot on.

- Bronagh (8/5): Comfortable B&B with great staff, perfect for attending wedding at Cooling Castle Barn. - Very clean and fresh, staff were so friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Rooms a little small and a bit expensive. Restaurant finished serving food at 8.30pm so we didnât get to try it.

- Simon (7/5): Good - Nice room overlooking fields. Excellent beef and ale pie for dinner, and good choices for breakfast. Nothing
- Lesley (7/5): Good - The meal in the bar/restaurant was very good. The bedroom was spotlessly clean and relatively quiet (thank goodness) after the noise in the bar area on arrival. The room looked newly refurbished. Very comfortable bed with a choice of pillows. Parking was difficult as there were no marked bays and without that guidance people had parked all over the place!
- Lucy (10/5): A beautiful countryside stay with the kindest hosts, and great breakfast! - Modern rooms very clean and lovely views of the countryside.
- Wendy (7/5): Good -
