Guest Reviews
- Joe (10/5): - Lovely place and service and food
- Charles (9/5): -
- Martin (9/5): - Excellent quiet location, friendly staff and great food. Nothing
- Matthew (10/5): Beautiful place to stay. - Beautiful place, lovely rooms with a fantastic view and outdoor space. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, food was fantastic. Thank you for a great stay.
- Guest (9/5): -
- Roy (6/5): - Room (3) looking very tired now with holes in carpet and loose fittings in en suite. Same dead plants and weeds on patio area that were there a couple of months ago at previous stay. Pub itself looks like it could do with a good clean (windows / floors etc). Dinner not available due to unforeseen circumstances. Easy to park and friendly staff. Decent breakfast.
- Maggie (10/5): Absolute gem of a place. 5 stars all the way. - A beautiful hotel. The staff were very attentive and the food was amazing. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Nothing.
- Matthew (8/5): -
- paula (9/5): -
- Guest (9/5): All very good - Very good All good
- Paloma (7/5): - Great location lovely staff food was tasty too
- Johanna (10/5): - Very beautiful property and excellent food!
- Michiel (8/5): - We were there for the first time eight years ago. It remains a special place. Only the refinement, especially the food, is no longer exceptional. The buildings could also use a fresh coat of paint.
- Guest (10/5): Perfect for our needs - Great staff. Lovely room. Food was really nice.
- W (8/5): -
- Bruce (9/5): Excellent - Great Nothing
- KEVIN (9/5): - Beautiful location.
Lovely pub, food and staff Small size but fine for one night
- Paul (8/5): - Lovely old pub, pleasant staff and a very nice area. 1 or 2 minor issues with the room that we just got on with, but if we had mentioned I’m sure would have been sorted. Excellent value. The 2 bedroom apartment we stayed in is directly above the bar and restaurant so be aware of this if you are planning an early night/early start. All was quiet by 11pm on a Friday so no issue for us at all.
Highly recommend the restaurant, courteous and friendly staff and fish and chips / soup were fantastic
- Guest (8/5): Lovely, comfortable rooms, with decent tea and coffee & lovely breakfast. Fairly priced - Missed the help yourself table at breakfast from the last time we came, but appreciate these can be a bit wasteful and that isn’t good. We did however miss the juice table and I’m not sure most people saw it either (last table in for breakfast seemed to know the ropes). Breakfast was lovely - noticed I opted out of beans and mushroom but got an extra rasher of bacon which I apprdciated The only down side it’s a bit of a way out, but you can’t help that. We’ve been 3 years now (airshow) and seems a long way for us, but then we walk into our room and have the breakfast and realise we don’t mind the extra miles
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A magical space, beautiful and peaceful! The staff and accommodations are perfect. The food and drinks wonderful. Definitely stop here if you can.
- Guest (7/5): Okay - Okay Bedding to hot for the heatwave
- Alderson (10/5): - Breakfast was excellent, and the room was comfortable with good facilities and clean. Staff were great, and we enjoyed our stay. No complaints. A.very good and comfortable stay
- Zsuzsanna (10/5): Amazing! - The location is breathtaking, staff are amazing, everything is super clean. But their kitchen… OMG! Forget about London fine dining just travel here instead. Best steak in the UK. And definitely try the duck. Or anything from the desert menu. Absolutely fantastic food! I would and will go back.
- Rachel (10/5): Fabulous stay - A really great place. Comfortable room, friendly staff. Great food.
- Darren (10/5): Outstanding - Everything nice and clean landlord very welcoming soon as we got there showed us to our room with was perfect very clean all in good order lovely patio between the rooms and the pub.
Breakfast was amazing nice full English all local sourced products staff also great can’t fault it in any way
One word of advice which is NOT the pubs fault if you want a taxi DO BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE AND DOUBLE CHECK THE NIGHT BEFORE it’s in the middle of nowhere prefect location Only had 1 night want to stay for BBQ and clay pigeon shooting but had to get home :(
- Brian (10/5): - Have just stayed for one night.
The staff were brilliant and the food was excellent. Will certainly come back.
- Roy (8/5): - Attractive pub with friendly staff. Large beer garden and plenty of parking. Tasty food, although seasonal veg (in August) was only a small helping of cabbage. Rooms were small and a little worn in places, the patio area was a good space to sit in. Good breakfast.
- Margaret (8/5): Lovely stay, but the vegetation food option needs updating - Location was great (it’s quite and rural) We have stayed here before
- Purereplica66 (4/5): Not brilliant !!. - Large room & queen size bed was nice !!.. Having a small patio was good . Good size bathroom, Outlook to the front of window was terrible , overlooking the carpark , and car parked straight outside our window & also car blocking fire exit !!. No curtain to front window just a blind . Candle bulbs in bedside lamps were far too big & pertruded over the top of shade , blinding us at night !!.
Cobwebs everywhere on the ceilings & a massive cob-web back small window . Carpets stained , needed decorating . Not enough room on the dressing table was clutered with a rusty coffee machine !! Feathered pillows were flat & uncomfortable, also had a winter duvet on !!.
Breakfast was very slow going , cannot believe they ran out of sausages !! When you know most people staying will have a cooked breakfast, was offered a veggie sausage, but was awful . Toast came out 10 minutes before cooked breakfast , so it was cold after waiting for the main breakfast .It felt like breakfast was understaffed & very slow .
The manager wasn't very sociable on arrival & still cannot believe on a Friday & Saturday night they close the pub at 10.00pm !!.
Sadly, we wouldn't come back , as staff seemed fed up & and the place seemed run down .& tired.
- David (10/5): - Ash was amazing. So welcoming
- Christian (10/5): Hidden Gem - What an amazing place. Ashley greeted us with a big smile and showed us to our room. The room was beautiful and clean.
Our breakfast was so tasty and presentation was spot on. Nothing was too much.
- Nigel (10/5): A great experience great staff and lovely feel - Our overall experience was above and beyond I asked for some flowers and rose petals in the room with a bottle.of wine they made it look very romantic and special for my girlfriends birthday, the staff are friendly and helpful including when we had our evening meal there offering us recommendations for food was really nice. The room was big bed was very comfy and everything was clean nice shower to and a door to the outside so you can sit in the grounds. We didn't get chance to use the bar but looked very nice. The area seems quiet and this place is where located for the south, overall really loved the feel of this place and will definitely be booking again. Nothing
- Chrissy (9/5): Wonderful - Lovely place, the room is great, large, airy and overlooking the paddock with french windows to access. The room had everything needed plus a coffee machine with pods.
Breakfast was such a treat - all so well cooked and presented.
Staff wonderful.
We also had dinner in the pub and that was lovely.
There is a useful fridge in the corridor.
There are only 7 rooms so you really enjoy the peace and quiet. This is my 3rd stay over a number of years and we will be back again one day.
There is plenty of parking. Can't think of anything honestly.
- Mike (9/5): Superb -
- Suzy (10/5): - A wee walk directly from the patio off our bedroom . Quiet location en route to Wales
- Catherine (8/5): Very good - lovely 😍
- Elizabeth (10/5): Lovely staff and pretty village. - Friendly atmosphere. Lovely views, great bar. Nothing
- Margaret (8/5): Really enjoyed my stay. - Friendly and welcoming.
Excellent food. Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tamara (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Excellent place to stay - The place was lovely the staff were all very nice, the lady that cleaned the rooms was really friendly and so nice she is definitely as asset to the place, the breakfast was excellent and the room was very nice. The only things I would ask for is a mirror on the dressing table & perhaps lighter duvets in summer, but these things wouldn't put me off going back, just suggestions.
- Roger (5/5): It was fine for a couple of nights but wouldn't have wished to stay longer. - Food and location were excellent. Room two was "tired". The window catch was missing, the en suite was very cramped, the en suite door didn't close, the toilet seat was loose and the shower tray didn't drain quickly enough. However the bed was comfortable and the room clean.
- Phillip (8/5): Very good -
- Katharine (8/5): Lovely location and comfortable stay. - Comfortable beds and good parking. Shower great. A little haphazard at check in - tea making not in kitchen and needed to be asked for. TV not working and was told he didn’t know code to sort it. Not too much of an issue as just there for one night but disappointing.
- Elisabeth (9/5): Nice time out with good food for a relaxing weekend - Good food, nice location, friendly hosts, beautiful lush green surroundings The internet is not really working good
- Anonymous (6/5): More 3 star not 4 star - We asked for orange jiuce twice never tiurned up.But the breakfast was a good standard. The rooms where clean but a little
tired Outside seating area for room needed clearing up beer cans left on ground ,weeds needed pulling and last year winter leaves needed sweeping up.Its a sham this only takes five mins to sort out ! Little things make all the difference.
- Phoebe (5/5): Perfectly fine for one night. - Friendly staff and a lovely traditional old pub. Unacceptable amount of damp in bedroom.
All bedrooms smelt musty.
Tired old carpets. Cob webs. Unkempt, uncared for feel to property.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (8/5): A super pub with an excellent restaurant. - We had a warm welcome. I had booked in the restaurant for our evening meal. The restaurant was busy and deserves to be, our four dinners were really excellent. The restaurant and bar staff were all really welcoming and efficient. We had a great evening.
Our rooms were good, the beds were really comfortable. The bedrooms were located in a separate building which does mean there’s no bar noise from below. Both of the rooms booked were quiet and well presented. Our only negative was breakfast. The service was good, that wasn’t the issue. It sounds a little petty but two breakfasts were with poached eggs, both eggs were so solid, more like hard boiled. The toast with the salmon was burnt. There wasn’t time to draw attention to it and wait for replacements as we were heading to an event. It just seemed that the staff cooking breakfast were a little haphazard. That was our only criticism and unfortunate as it’s what you think of as you leave.
- Sonia (5/5): Passable -
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Lovely location in rural setting. Friendly and helpful staff. Food good, but small portions & too expensive. Rather cramped room & shower spaces - On the On line Pics, the room & shower looked bigger!
- Marie (7/5): Very relaxing and great for 1 or 2 nights - Location and beautiful grounds/gardens Carpet was worn in bedroom and 2 steps down to bathroom were concerning at night time
- Robert (4/5): Disappointing - Bathroom was so tight one could barely turn around. The pub was OK, but not traditional.
- Martin (9/5): Excellent surprise - Really friendly, well trained, and professional staff. Room was lovely, with high quality linen and furniture. Dinner was fabulous, great taste and beautifully presented. A proud chef, for sure.
- Agnieszka (10/5): - Great place to stay and relax.Only 50 min from Bath.
Hotel has all you need, quiet, green area, lovely garden with tables and chairs to have a glass of wine and enjoy the view.
Hotel offers breakfast but quite pricey for what you get on a plate...
Other than that,highly recommended
- Kathleen (8/5): Food fantastic, staff helpful and always smiling, very clean - The staff were helpful Room a little small also the shower, but everything else was perfect
- Alan (6/5): Disappointing - country environment Noisy bathroom fan
Dinner menu good but let down by 'battered fish' was soggy and uneven temperature, confit chicken terrine jus jug was too hot to handle but no warning
- Kathleen (10/5): Highly recommended - Very high standard of accommodation, very comfortable. The staff were caring & very hospitable. Excellent menu for both breakfast & evening meal . Superbly cooked & served with knowledgeable & caring staff.
- Lysanne (8/5): Charming welcome in the countryside - Near Bexkhampton, nice staff. Good off street parking. Good food in convivial setting.
- Marie (7/5): It was a bank holiday weekend and little accommodation available so price was higher than expected - Location was perfect. Staff welcoming and attentive, comfortable bed.
Teas coffees and biscuits plentiful . Missing plug for bath probably available had I mentioned it but time was short
- Amy (9/5): Superb - The staff were friendly and attentive. The room was comfortable and quiet. The food was really good, both for dinner and for breakfast. The pub is also comfortable and well laid out and waiting staff were good. Thanks for a lovely stay.
- ALAN (8/5): 2 day stay at the White Horse Inn - Just what we needed for our 2 day stay whilst attending a friend's daughter's wedding. Comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Great breakfast and dog friendly. Two real ales to choose from.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terence (10/5): Lovely Inn - Great welcome by Ash. Lovely Inn and excellent food.
- Janette (9/5): Superb - Quiet, peaceful. Breakfast very good.
Staff were lovely. Room was a little small and bed a bit short.
Also, electric car charger didn't work.
- Debbie (7/5): Good - All good
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Karl (10/5): Exceptional - We liked everything.
- Zuleika (10/5): We had an excellent time and will come again - Comfortable clean room delightful staff delicious food - very inviting traditional Inn surrounded by beautiful countryside . Will visit again - please don't change anything . Our room looked out into the countryside and we were greeted by pheasants in the morning before breakfast. The bed was a little small - which didn't make for a restful night and there was a very strong smell of bleach in the ensuite bathroom which was a bit nasty and permeated into the bedroom - it was obviously a very clean room but maybe less bleach - but everything else surpassed that.
- Jane (8/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you and thanks for looking after us so well. Toby was lovely! - The staff were very attentive and pleasant. The setting is rural and very peaceful. Both bar and restaurant were inviting and all the food we had was of excellent quality, well cooked and presented. The room ( No.9 in the annexe) was comfortable with good en-suite facilities, a comfortable bed, good TV viewing and the window and balcony, facing East to the rising sun was an enjoyable extra. Especially watching the cock pheasants displaying in their smart breeding plumage. Should we be looking for accommodation again in this area we would definitely repeat our visit There is a substantial floor area between the 2-seater sofa and the dressing table/TV/tea making facilities. Because of the sloping roof, the sofa/wardrobe area is pretty dark. Both my wife Angela and I like to read and especially if away for a few days’ holiday when we we have more time at our disposal. The room would be substantially enhanced in this area with the provision say, of a coffee table. The area really also needs some lighting by which a guest might be able to read in a comfy seat. Because again of the sloping roof, a standard lamp might not be too practical, but a quality table lamp would be very acceptable. Sorry for being a bit picky, but we used to run a Hotel ourselves.
- Fiona (10/5): Very comfortable and relaxing and good service and delicious breakfast -
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- Gregg (10/5): - A romantic B&B with exceptional service and dining experience.
- David (10/5): Fantastic Stay - The Whitehorse Inn was outstanding. It was a quick booking due to another hotel not being up to par. The Whitehorse was a hole in one. From the moment Ash greeted us we enjoyed the stay. I highly recommend this hotel/Inn.
- Steven (10/5): Really enjoyed - Location was wonderful out in the countryside very picturesque 👍 Shower was a bit small
- Justin (9/5): Superb -
- Jill (9/5): Superb - Rooms excellent breakfast
- Jan (10/5): An extremely enjoyable stay ,Thankyou to The White Horse - Great bedroom with very comfortable bed, good en-suite bathroom

- Ruth (9/5): Superb - Friendliness of staff, lovely food
- Edward (9/5): Superb -
- Amanda (10/5): Perfect accommodation to escape to, great food, lovely hosts in a beautiful part of the country. - Beautiful setting and welcoming feel. The room was immaculate and the staff were lovely. Nothing
- Caroline (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Damon (6/5): Relaxing stay, but disappointing, food standard poorly cooked. - Poor quality ingredients cooked well Accommodation was supposed to be a luxury suite was lower rate than premier inn
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): - Perfectly located for Stonehenge, Avebury, and Bath. William was brilliant all around
- Robert (9/5): Very good - All very good
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (10/5): - James and Sam made me feel very welcome.
The rooms were very comfortable, but the bathroom needs a deep clean. Very black around shower which I good scrub could get rid of.
- Janice (5/5): Passable - Room needed a repaint and upgrade. Shower had mould in corners. Room cramped.
Towels good. Dinner was ok. Breakfast and quality of products good.
- Joy (9/5): Superb -
- Duncan (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Great Inn, great staff- rooms do not match the Inn. Great for one night after a wedding I suspect. - This is great Inn, a real home lounge from home. Extremely friendly, great beer, great food and very good service. Very good breakfast, freshly cooked, no buffet thankfully. The rooms suffer from damp problems with significant black mold, probably due to poor ventilation. Our first room had such in the bedroom and bathroom, we requested a move. The second room was much better but there was still mold in the bathroom.
- Malcolm (10/5): Great half way stopover. Will definitely return ! - Lovely food. Brilliant staff. Great setting. Comfortable room. Nothing
- Jeanine (9/5): Superb -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb - Room clean and comfortable, the breakfast is outstanding staff very friendly and attentive and would definitely stay there again but in a different room, see below We did raise concerns with the owner about the toilet handle.. Temperamental at best and really quite frustrating to use, also the WiFi drops in and out but when it's on its fine and finally there is a bit of mould in the shower cubicle, it's only a small problem but it's there,
- Gareth (10/5): Great country pub/restaurant. - Very nice stay, excellent evening meal.
Sloping ceiling in the bedroom gave me a few head bumps, but other than that, we enjoyed our stay.
- Naomi (10/5): Exceptional - The friendliness, nothing too much trouble Food was good but a little on the pricey side
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - Staff very friendly, room comfy, breakfast delicious. The perfect place to stay the night
- Sophia (8/5): beautiful pub in the middle of the countryside - lovely sized room, ample parking and food was incredible! shower pressure wasn't great and we only had a double bed which i should have checked before as we find these too small to have a comfortable nights sleep for 2 of us
