Guest Reviews
- Birgit (10/5): Fantastisch! - So nice people, so good service and a lot of free services for us, we were there 2 nights ! The weather was rainy and cold, all doors in the eating place were always open, not may warm places to eat - but this seems usual in Nepal.
- NoeleneH (9/5): Must stay in Nuwakot. - A fabulous place that is well run with a great kitchen. More importantly, the Famous Farm is well connected into, and benefits the local community. The manager took us for a walk around the local area, which was delightful. Highly recommend. The bed is a tad firm.
- Marielle (10/5): A little paradise - This hotel is a little paradise. The buildings and surrounding gardens are so beautiful and I really enjoyed spending hours in a comfy chair in the garden just reading and enjoying the views. After a physically challenging trek in the mountains, this was the perfect place to unwind. The staff is very attentive and kind, and I felt very well taken care of, as they were regularly checking in with me to see if I needed anything. The food was absolutely delicious. The room was also spacious and very comfortable, especially the bed. And the views from the room were simply incredible. 10/10 recommend staying here! It would have been very helpful if the hotel had provided some more information beforehand regarding how to reach the property. Traveling solo, I found the option of a private car that was offered a bit too pricey on my own, so I opted for taking a bus instead. A travel agency in Kathmandu helped me book a ticket for the bus, but told me there was only one daily bus at 7:15AM. Although the distance is only 50km, it took 5,5 hours, as the bus stopped at one point waiting for people to come and fill the bus. The hotel manager told me on arrival there were more (and faster) busses between Nuwakot and Kathmandu, which I took on my return to Kathmandu (which indeed was faster and more comfortable).
- Marsha (10/5): Last night I dreamt I was at THE FAMOUS FARM … - THE FAMOUS FARM, NUWAKOT, NEPAL
Always and Forever, THE FAMOUS FARM will hold a special place in my heart. Highly praised by THE LONELY PLANET, and loudly applauded by Guests who have enjoyed its Shangri-La serenity and beauty, I am privileged to add my voice to THE FAMOUS FARM’s chorus of admirers.
First mention must go to HOST AND MANAGER, RAMESH SOLTEE. Ramesh dovetails expertise and professionalism with kind and caring hospitality.
The “mothership”, RURAL HERITAGE, is a super-stylish big brand, but through THE FAMOUS FARM it offers tradition, authenticity, intimacy and simplicity.
I used the hotel’s own transport and I wholeheartedly recommend this. I was travelling from Kathmandu and the journey is long and the roads are atrocious but thankfully BIDUR ARYAL was a fantastic, calm and careful driver.
On arrival Ramesh gave me a choice of rooms. I love it when that happens.
I chose a spacious room with a jaw-dropping panoramic view from its splendid, private balcony.
Dining day and night at THE FAMOUS FARM in the verdant gardens, the courtyard or on the veranda is pure delight. The food is delicious, the service attentive and the Bar is always open!
Ramesh ensures Guests have a truly authentic experience taking them on breathtaking treks engaging with friendly locals and their goats, roosters and dogs - which brings me to Obama.
The only upsetting part of my stay was when it was over and I had to say goodbye to Obama, Ramesh’s big, beautiful, black sleepy dog.
As I write this Review I’m not even half way through my magical Nepal Odyssey but without doubt, THE FAMOUS FARM is and always will be a peak experience in every sense. Just book it !!
- Dylan (10/5): Beautiful landscape and accommodation that speaks for itself! - The property was beautiful from the inside to the outside. The food was nice and the room was very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was all very good.
- Cristina (10/5): Paz en un antigua residencia nepalí reformada con vistas inmejorables - Me ha encantado . El personal súper amable y profesional . La ubicación inmejorable . La habitación grande y cómoda . Limpia
La construcción es típica nepalí
Lugar de relax y descanso . Lectura y buena comida hecha d sus propia cosecha
Gracias por este maravilloso paraíso
- Rachelle (10/5): - Beautiful property, from the colourful flowers throughout the garden and on the buildings themselves, the view of the surrounding valley, and the amenities in the rooms.
Definitely a great location if your objective is to relax. The Nuwakot durbar square is walking distance (although currently under renovation). Otherwise there is not much around so expect to eat all your meals at the Farm (food is delicious, especially the local specialties). The transportation to and from the accommodation was a bit complicated (taxi driver did not know the location, so make sure to have data in order to direct).
We stayed two nights and were surprised that on both nights most of the rooms were being occupied by big tour groups (american group night 1, dutch group night 2) rather than individual bookings. It created a slightly different "vibe" to what we were expecting.
- Charlotte (10/5): - Wonderful accomodation in a nice and quiet location. Great place to stop before starting your trek from Syabru besi. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place!
- Alison (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. The Farm is truly beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff took great care of us during the Gen Z protests.
- Amra (10/5): - My stay at the Famous farm was truly special. The house itself is beautiful, thoughtfully restored to preserve its historic charm. The staff are very kind and helpful and the food very fresh and delicious. I spent my mornings helping out at a local school and that is going to stay with me as the most wonderful memory. Very special thanks to Ramesh, who coordinated my visits to the school and made sure everything runs very smoothly, indeed.
- Magda (9/5): Beautiful nature getaway! - The place was absolutely beautiful! View from the terrace was stunning. All the team was very kind and accommodating. Felt very homie. Thank you all! There was sawing and drilling happening right under my balcony all morning. Food prep & quality was ok needs more attention.
- Roel (9/5): Authentic, romantic and charming stay - This is an exceptionally romantic stay in a filmic location: a lot of care and thought went into renovating these historic buildings into a truly charming stay.
Another big plus is the super kind and friendly staff. They are very client oriented: for example in making transportation arrangements or by not charging a meal that due to circumstances couldn’t be taken.
- Diane (10/5): Charming and peaceful - Everything
Superb renovation that allowed authentic vibe but with modern facilities
Staff attentive and thoughtful Nothing no complaints
- Kirsty (10/5): Highly recommended for a perfect relaxing break - Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The property has lots of old charm and the rooms are lovely with incredible views over the hills. Food was delicious and the staff were all friendly. We stayed for 2 nights after our Langtang valley trek and it was the perfect place to relax.
- Bijan (8/5): Very good -
- Stefan (10/5): Amazing - We absolutely loved our stay at the Famous Farm. The charm of the place is just undescribable. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed delicious food al fresco. Also we were accompanied on a walk up the hill and through the Village, which was amazing as we got to meet a lot of friendly people and saw beautiful things like the restoration of an old temple.
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susanna (10/5): Heavenly - It is gorgeous , in nature, very kind staff and delicious food. The town is also so beautiful to visit. Ramesh was very attentive and kind. All was good.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - It's paradise in heaven.
- Robin (9/5): Relaxing retreat to escape the city - Beautiful, restored buildings. Fantastic food. A great place to escape Kathmandu. Really enjoyed relaxing on the balcony, watching birds in the beautiful garden.
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything !!
The Famous farm is one of the best travel secrets in Nepal.
If your looking for a recovery spot after a trek or just time away .
We stayed 3 nights and it was worth it.
The staff sure do know how to make your stay very special.
From the paddock to the plate , the chef sure does know how to cook.
Nepali - anything you like .
The village just down the road along with the people will remain in my heart for the rest of my life 💕
- Quirijn (10/5): Very memorable stay with my family and parents. - Super location, venue, staff A little expensive but I guess its worth it
- Warren (10/5): Very memorable and charming stay. - Delightful, comfy place with an amazing view. If you’re looking into staying there, you know the area (very off the beaten path, so don’t expect a supermarket or atm nearby). The staff were wonderful, and the food tasty and very reasonable, given the setting. Loved it. Not much, really. There were loud kids running around but that’s not an issue with the staff or hotel, only the kids’ parents. :)
- Nirjala (8/5): - Very peaceful and clean surrounding.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a unique & wonderful place to stay far off the beaten track. It is in a beautiful location the rooms are comfortable there is constant hot water the food is incredible & the staff so kind & attentive & helpful. We went on a wonderful walk & visited the little town of Nuakot with its beautiful Durbar square currently being restored. We loved our stay at the Famous Farm & would love to return. It’s a long bumpy dusty road but worth the journey! Go you will love it.
- Mike (6/5): Nice staff and excellent views - The Famous Farm is in a great location. Staff is friendly and attentive, and the scenery is fantastic. The hotel itself is rustic, and all the entryways are vary low (I banged my head a few times) and the stairways are steep. But, it's a good little spot to just enjoy a simple life.
