Guest Reviews
- Wendy (10/5): - We had a lovely stay surrounded by nature, quiet and relaxing. The staff were all lovely, the food was great and eating al fresco was a bonus. Our room could have been a bit cleaner and the bathroom had a bit of a musty smell but it is an old pub so goes with the territory. The bed was comfortable and we slept peacefully and well.
- angela (10/5): Great value traditional country pub - Amazing country pub, warm welcome from Steve owner and buddy (dog). Clean room with comfortable bed and large shower room. Currently renovating the kitchen but breakfast served up in the top garden. Breakfast made to order and was delicious. We ate there three nights fresh pizza made to order in pizza oven using some produce from well stocked organic garden. The regulars and staff were so welcoming for a small village.
Even met a kindered spirit originally from cleckheaton (Nick) the gardener.
If you want a warm welcome with home comforts at a good price make The Mitre Inn Your next stop.
Until next year!!
- Tracy (10/5): A beautiful country pub, great atmosphere - We stayed in the shepherds hut in the garden and had a wonderful time. The location of the pub is just stunning. The garden is beautiful and the outside bar is amazing. Our host was very friendly, even with our grumpy dog.
- Nigel (10/5): - We liked the whole package in general , Steve and his team were just so welcoming , friendly and gave us a lovely break . 10/10 . We will be revisiting
- Jane (8/5): - We really enjoyed our stay . Steve was a lovely host and his breakfast was delicious. The kitchen is being replaced and renewed but we had a delicious homemade pizza one night and breakfast was served from the kitchen in the garden bar, beautiful scenery and so peaceful, it couldn’t be improved on.
- Hannah (10/5): - Booked last minute for a trip with kids. Location was very convenient but do bear in mind it’s accessed via small country roads.
The staff were very welcoming and my boys were smitten with the dog, Buddy.
The main pub wasn’t open but the pizza’s were great. The garden is absolutely wonderful and we will definitely try to return and see how it matures.
- Philip (8/5): - Shame about the kitchen refurb: otherwise great!
- Christine (10/5): Great place - Lovely pub, a clean comfortable room.

- Nigel (10/5): A haven of peace in deepest Dorset - Arrived in the dark on a bitterly cold misty February night. Despite the fact that Steve had only just got out of hospital after a hip operation and clearly in pain, he did everything possible to make me welcome and comfortable. Rooms recently completely refurbished, well-pointed and warm. Great land scaping projects in the garden ready for the summer to make wonderful sitting out areas. The quintessentially simple cosy affordable Dorset Inn, log fire. stone floor simple decor, gumboots and pub labrador. Perfection.
- Tony (10/5): - Great place to stay
- john (10/5): Best place in Dorset - Iv stopped here a few times now and it's a lovely little quiet pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The owner Steve is a great host. If your looking for a nice quiet place to stop for a few night in Dorset you must stay here.

The only downside was the unpleasant smell coming from our bathroom.

- john (10/5): Hidden gem of Dorset - Second time stopping at this lovely pub. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The owner is very friendly and welcoming.
Do not miss the full English breakfast, it's spectacular ( you won't need lunch after it ).
I can recommend eating there as well, I had the burger and only just managed to finish it ( big tasty portions).
I would suggest going out in the day but make sure you get back to enjoy the food and just sit back and relax with a nice drink and good people.

- Trevor (10/5): Period charm - The Mitre Inn is a great example of Ye Olde English Pub complete with what appears to be the original flagstone flooring. Nice log burner adds to the ambiance.
Steve, the host and his girlfriend are excellent and food was top along with great beers.
Had a great stay there and would recommend it.
- CAROL (10/5): - Everything you need for a break away .Wonderful fresh home made food which was good value and tasted amazing .No problem parking extended car park outside the Inn.The room we stayed in was a generous size and the king size bed was very comfortable .The hosts made us feel very welcome and when we are travelling that way again this will be our first choice .

- Bernard (10/5): - We had a perfect stay here for us. It is situated in a very rural area near Sherborne. It is a popular pub with locals giving us an opportunity to meet and chat with them. The chef cooks lovely traditional pub food. The landlord could not have been more attentive and obliging.
- Jeff (10/5): Up there with the best! - Run by a lovely friendly couple who couldn't be more accommodating. Set in an ancient village in a secluded location, a few miles north of Sherborne. Nice comfortable room and great food (the hake and dauphinoise potatoes are the best ever!). Plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for eating and drinking. Highly recommended.
- Ian (10/5): MIDWEEK BREAK - Enjoyed stay.Hosts very hospitable and would do anything to help
- Margaret (10/5): - Everything was wonderful
- Sharon (10/5): Hidden gem. - Such a warm welcome not only from the hosts Alan and Cheryl but the locals in the pub. Great food and comfy bed, can ask for more.
- Philip (8/5): - All good great service and a very fine breakfast
- Joanna (10/5): Lovely break - We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Mitre Inn. It is located in a small village near Sherborne which is a lovely town. It is reached by small country lanes so a car is essential although we had some amazing walks from the pub around the village and surrounding area. The owners Cheryl and Allen are friendly and we were served with a fantastic cooked breakfast each morning. We ate in the pub in the evening and the food was excellent. A brilliant place to stay if you need to be away from everything and just want to relax. We will hopefully return soon.
- Yuleen (10/5): Lovely English experience - A typical English stay full of character. Highly recommended, great food and very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is an old building and the B&B is run by a couple. They are very friendly, helpful and eager to offer assistance. My car tyre was flat and the husband changed the tyre for me.
