Guest Reviews
- Irene (8/5): Great place and location - Stayed two nights and it was lovely. Very convenient for food and drink. Didn’t spend that much time there as we were walking part of Hadrians Wall. Would definitely recommend it though.
- Ronald (10/5): Belford - Lovely accommodation.
Great location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really lovely stay. Beautiful room and facilities
- Martin (10/5): Belford House the Best - Excellent all round. Very good prices. Great central location also quiet though on main street. Parking free on road outside house or on supermarket car park or elsewhere in town. Easy check in with fob/security panel.Extremely clean modern room, very comfortable, very warm. Initially booked 2 nights and quickly accommodated by friendly owners Phil & Helen for a 3rd night. Will deffo return and 10/10 deserved.
- vivienne (10/5): Clean, comfortable & excellent value - Excellent place to stay. The room was clean & had everything we needed. Check-in was convenient & easy. Fresh coffee, milk & cafetiere was a nice touch. Great value for money.
We stayed here as we were visiting Kielder Observatory.
Lots of good places to eat in Haltwhistle. We had breakfast at Jethro's, a couple of minutes walk away, also excellent.
Highly recommend this place & will return as there is so much to explore in the area
- Simon (10/5): All good - All good
- Philip (8/5): - no check in or check out required. convenient key code for entry. top floor room may be a problem for people with mobility issues. room was comfortable and a good size. bed was comfortable. the shower cold water adjustment did not work and the sink plug did not stay down.
- Mr E (10/5): A lovely place to stay. - The room furnishings and facilities were exactly as we needed (a couple); virtually new, very clean and welcoming - the only problem we had was that the mattress might be too new, as it was a little too firm for us, but that's a perennial problem for accommodation-providers that they can't win!. The radiator below the window was more than adequate to het the room. The shower was first-rate, and well-ventilated to remove steam efficiently. The range of free hot drinks was very good, and ideal on a cold February night when we stayed. The combination of black-out blinds and curtains was very effective in preventing light and much of the street noise - no-one can do much about the occasional "petrol head" who has decided to drill holes in the silencer on an exhaust.
There was minimal noise within the building, and certainly nothing that disturbed us.
The owners had thoughtfully provided a booklet explaining most of the FAQs that people might have in such an establishment/location, and that was most useful. It expanded on the clear and concise information that they had provided in their advisory emails in the run-up to our stay. Overall, we thought it was lovely.
Thank you Phil & Helen, and we wish you success in this venture.
- Joanne (10/5): - This is a lovely place. I had a spotlessly clean, large room (Room 5) with a nice view. Self check in was easy. The bed was super comfortable with nice linens, the bathroom spacious with a great shower. There were lots of little touches that made it special- a small fridge with fresh water and milk, ground coffee with a cafetiere, a little bag of sweets from the shop next door. You can park right outside overnight for free or for a few hours on weekdays. It has a great location in the centre of the village- restaurants, takeaways and shops are right outside. At night the hotel was incredibly quiet- I slept so well here! It's close to Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda Roman town. Definitely a great find.
- Steve (10/5): Great stay at Belford House - The room was very clean with all the things that you need plus extra little touches that make all the difference. The shower was powerful and hot, the bed was big and comfy. We wanted to visit Hadrians wall and see some historic sites and this is ideally situated to see lots of them
- Fleur (10/5): Wonderful place to stay! - Great stay and beautiful room! Lovely little extras made a very nice touch. The room was immaculate and very comfortable.
- Gary (10/5): Really Lovely Place - Room 5 was splendid. We’ll appointed, beautifully decorated and very clean. Perfect welcome pack. Super shower - hot and powerful. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Check in was easy. Great communication with the owners prior to arrival. Nice view out the back. Quiet too!
- CE (10/5): Lovely stay in Haltwhistle - Lovely room in the middle of Haltwhistle. Contactless check-in is being trialled which worked perfectly, communication was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable with some nice little touches such as sweets from the local sweet shop and cafetiere coffee. Just a warning be aware this accommodation is room only although there are plenty of places to have breakfast in the village there is nothing open on a Sunday morning...we were heading home and went via Starbucks outside Haltwhistle.
- Darren (10/5): You will be impressed - Room very fresh and looked to be recently fitted out. Got a bit of a hate of beds with hard sharp wooden corners, always seem to collect a bruise when going for midnight tinkles in the dark. But other than that couldnt fault the room
- gerard (10/5): 5 stars ***** highly suggest this place - althought this hotel lacks on site staff i can genuinely say im more than happy with this place, in fact i tried to booking another night but was sadly unavailable
room was immaculate and for the price was more than my expectations
would 100% stay again in the future
if your looking for a nice quiet place with a comfy bed and clean room this will be up your street dont hesitate booking
- Yvette (10/5): Superb accommodation! - Superb accommodation. High quality bed, decor, bedding, towels and shower. The owners have provided everything you need for a stay including:fridge, fresh milk, filter coffee, cafetiere, wine glasses.
- Sarah (10/5): - Spotlessly clean room with lots of extras, the silent running fridge was stocked with water and fresh milk, there was instant and ground coffee and good sized cups! The shower was wonderful and complimentary toiletries were very nice. The bed was comfortable and bedding was crisp and clean. Couldn’t fault anything, felt safe that all aspects of safeguarding our health had been covered.
- Stephen (10/5): Great hotel - Really lovely place. Beautiful room, bathroom and shower was amazing.
Nice condiments aswel.
Even let us check out later as my wife is pregnant.
Only issue i had was the bed legnth. Im 6 foot 5 so couldn't fit.
Really recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location was lovely; the room was fantastic with all the lovely finishing touches such as a fridge with complimentary bottles of water topped up daily, milk, coffee and tea making facilities and on a arrival we had a bag of sweets from the sweet shop next door. The shower was fantastic and powerful just what you needed after a long day of walking! Bed was so comfortable as well, no disturbance from anyone really quiet and out room was made up every day :) will definitely come back here the next time we visit Northumberland for sure, absolutely loved it. Thank you very much :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Welcoming place to stay - This was a very nice and comfortable room. It was modern and very clean. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Very nice location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice, clean, private—and affordable too!
Our room, #5, was on the third floor in the back, and I just loved it. Our big window overlooked slate rooftops, a tiny sliver of garden brimming with roses and foxgloves and distant hilltops dotted with sheep. At sunset, the sky over the stone chimney tops blazed with orange, red and pink.
Our immaculate room had relaxed understated decor and a clean modern tiled bath with roomy shower, big thirsty towels, heated towel rack and plenty of hot water. The bed was comfy and there were nightstands with good reading lights on both sides. A particularly nice touch was the real coffee and plunge pot provided, along with a bottle of milk in the fridge. The room was very quiet with zero traffic noise.
Phil and Helen went out of their way to be accommodating and helpful: I mentioned one morning that the shower pan was a bit slippery and when we returned that evening there was a brand-new bathmat ! The Belford house is only 5 minutes from the train and even closer to the bus stop- very handy for getting back and forth to Hadrian’s Walll.
Lastly, another great thing about this place is it’s close proximity to cafes, pubs and shops.—Billy Bell’s in particular has sweet and savory pastries that you can take back tooth room or eat in the square.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very central and convenient and very well and recently renovated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Over the post office... The proprietor sells candy, and provided some as treats!
- Christine (10/5): Excellent room! - Lovely welcome, great room, loved the shower. Parked right outside for free easily even on weekend nights. Quiet, luxurious, would love to return.
- Ellie (10/5): - Very clean and safe. The accommodation is adjacent to a post office that also doubles as a sweet shop, very quaint. There were lots of nice little extra touches in the room. The town was quiet at the time of year we visited (stopping off after seeing some Hadrian's Wall sights) but there were 3-4 pubs and hotels close by for dinner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great find - Great find, everything had been thought of. Had a very relaxing nights stay and would stay again if we’re back in the area.
- Robert (8/5): - Very clean. Phil helped move luggage when we arrived but no response next morning when pressed bell, possibly flat battery. Room 3 was warm without heating. Bed rather too soft for me. Had to open window for air and to cool but boiler vent outside window was a nuisance. Room had a small fridge which was good. Bathroom clean and plenty of room. Not disturbed by other residents.
- Lewis (10/5): - This room was complete. I have traveled a good bit in England and Wales and have not seen it done better. The room, the bath, the 'extra little things' all made for a pleasant stay. I really hated to leave knowing my next room couldn't be as nice!
- jeremy (6/5): - A very comfortable room with a great shower. No breakfast provided but lots of places nearby. You can't check in before 4.00pm which is a bit late. Haltwhistle is a quaint village in a lovely area of England.
- John (10/5): Excellent stay at Belford House - We chose Belford House due to it's location for the walks we wanted to do around the Haltwhistle area. Situated on the front street close to all amenities it was ideal. Parking is easy either in front or in the supermarket car park near the rear of the building. Check in was so easy. The room was well designed and comfortable complete with a small fridge and kettle plus a cafetierre with ground coffee. Luxury. A really lovely welcoming touch was a packet of mixed sweets from the shop situated below Belford House. We would definitely stay there again if we need to stay in the Haltwhistle again and can highly recommend it to anyone else.
- Claire (10/5): Lovely room in great location - We thought the room was excellent. Everything we could have possibly needed was included! The fresh milk was much appreciated and the little fridge was very handy. Haltwhistle is a lovely place to stay and a great base for visiting Northumberland.
- Janelle (10/5): - Perfection for location accessing the wall. Pubs in town were friendly for food and laughter. There is a coin operated laundry in town. But the room was just fantastic eg there was fridge (something Aussies miss when then are travelling through UK). The little extras was just amazing.
- Don (10/5): A ‘must stay’ in Haltwhistle. - A great place to stay.
Location handy to everything, free parking right outside property and room lovely, modern and spacious.
Would highly recommend it.
- Dennis (10/5): Luxury at a low price, walk to Hadrian's Wall - This is the place to stay if you want to hike Hadrian's Wall. There are hiking trails that start really close to the hotel and lead you through beautiful scenery up to the wall. If you don't want to walk that far, there are buses available that will take you to various trailheads and back. The beautiful rooms are large, newly refurbished, and much more luxurious than you would expect for the price. Our bed was large and comfortable, there was a small closet, end tables with drawers, and a large desk, also with drawers, so you can unpack and you don't have to live out of your suitcase. There was a real coffee maker (French press) with real coffee, plus tea, biscuits and hot chocolate. The wifi was fast and the signal was strong in our room. The bathroom, though, deserves special mention. It is nothing short of wonderful. The shower was amazing. It was large, had more water pressure than you could possibly need and there was plenty of hot water. The towels were huge and fluffy and good toiletries were included. There was also a wonderful lighted, fog-free mirror. There's no breakfast, but there are plenty of places nearby to eat, plus a supermarket about a block away. The lighting is more than adequate and the room is really quiet. The proprietors are incredibly friendly and helpful. Phil and Helen work hard to make sure you have everything you need and are completely satisfied. We would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Could not have asked for a nicer place to stay. The owners were extremely accommodating, offering support to this hiker. My room was spotless and most comfortable. A great location for anyone hiking Hadrian's Wall as there is easy access to both the railway station and the AD122 country bus. If I am ever back in the area, this will be the first place I book.
- George (10/5): Wonderful stay. - Wonderful trip to Hadrian’s wall. Belford House is centrally located, easy to find and Phil was very helpful. Our room was very lively with large towels, comfortable bed, tea, milk and coffee provided. It is within walking distance of the grocery and several breakfast places so not having breakfast provided is no problem. Plus — it is directly across the street from the Black Bull - a super cozy and friendly pub. We would definitely recommend the Belford.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Spotless and deautifully furnished - This guest house was stunning. Attached to the Post Office, our room was on the top floor. Streetside parking was no problem. Everything was reallygood quality and the only way it could have improved was if they started serving breakfasts!!
- Andy (8/5): Great for a very quiet weekend - Completely my fault but thought that this was B & B. Phil politely explained that breakfast was not included but suggested a number of nice places. We went to The Manor House both mornings as a result of very friendly experience there on our arrival day. Having said this, Phil at Belford House was very welcoming and informative. Our room wa spotless and very comfortable with all the facilities we needed. Some nice touches included cafietere and sweets together with fresh milk in the room fridge.
- Gary (10/5): Wonderfully welcoming - Really friendly welcome, well located - though difficult to spot to the uninitiated - inside is beautifully furnished. I just hope we can find an excuse to come back again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Enjoyed the accommodation and the village, - Most enjoyable, would recommend to family and friends.
- Philip (10/5): Great b&b - Newly refurbished b & b in lovely condition. Lots of extras like real coffee and fresh milk. No breakfast but plenty of cafes nearby. Location is great for Hadrian's Wall.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hadrians wall B&B - Newly renovated, friendly helpful owners.
- Luisa (10/5): Viagem Perfeita - O melhor hotel que eu já fiquei, limpeza, serviço e conforto impecáveis. Me faz querer voltar a Haltwhistle apenas para aproveitar mais umas noites no Belford House.
- Patrick (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Nice coffee facilities in room - real grounds! Also fridge with cold milk and water. Only drawback was lack of elevator. Owners Helen and Phil very accommodating!
- Ken (10/5): Beautiful fresh clean rooms equipped to a high sta - We have normally stayed at A 4 star hotel as we do enjoy our comforts, but due to the Rugby in Newcastle, all accommodation was booked so I looked further and found Belford House. The price was brilliant and the pictures looked inviting but it was with some trepidation if I'm honest that I booked in. We were not disappointed, the rooms were lovely, all brand new furniture to a high standard and all the fixtures, fittings and decorations were new and beyond reproach. I will be going back and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants an excellent room, a very pleasant reception all at a great price.
- lance (10/5): Pleasant town; great B&B - Very nice people in a lovely new inn above the post office. Nice little town a short way east of Carlisle and north of the Lake District. Accessible to/from both by public transit
- Rebecca (10/5): Nice chilled weekend. - Very nice stay in a very clean and well equipped hotel. Room was a nice size with good facilities. Owners very friendly and nothing was too much for them, even fresh milk put into fridge daily. Will definitely return.
