- cassandra (2/5): I would not recommend - Location I did not sleep due to loud noise all night from air conditioning or a fan noise all night. The shower was not appealing for washing in. The room looked tired and run down and was expensive for the room, sorry.
- Glorieta (10/5): Excellente! Recommendado mucho. - Staff were accomodating, place very accessible to move around town and work, clean room and great food! Fabulous❤ Ño complains. Happy to come back again.
- Hazel (3/5): Over priced stay. - Next to Selby Abbey. Run down unclean bathroom..No contact with staff and room not serviced. The place is really tired and needs a lot of money to improve it. For over £100 a night it was rubbish. Website said brunch from 09.00 until 12.00 but staff said
kitchen didn't open until 12.00. Found a great liitle cafe for breakfast. Wi-fi was rubbish and TV kept glitching. Water from the shower head just trickled, no pressure there at all.
On a positive, good location.
- Drusilla (5/5): Really shabby - It is central for the town Really shabby and neglected. An old building requires careful conservation and refurbishment, this place could
be lovely if the owner would spend some money on it
Pretty depressing and certainly not worth what we paid.
Internet access is appalling, TV kept cutting out, shower either scalding or freezing
- Tracy (7/5): Good location but overpriced for overall room - Good location
Pub food was tasty and good value for money
Nice bed linen and towels Bathroom cleanliness was not very good , mould in the shower , unclean around the taps
- Anneke (8/5): - De plek, het gevoel in een inn te zijn De douche was heel moeilijk instelbaar, te heet of te koud scheelde maar een mm
- Sandgrounder57 (8/5): - Central location, parking. No breakfast on site, but cafes within walking distance.
- Andrew (5/5): - The location was good The decor was dated, the bedding was uncomfortable
- Andrew (6/5): Ok - Good location. Free parking next to inn Tired place. Needs refurb
- Bryony (6/5): - The Location is perfect and the staff are friendly and helpful The room faced the beer garden and the bright security light made it difficult to sleep, even with the blackout curtains drawn. Room was also very warm on arrival but there was a fan provided which helped.
- Bailey (1/5): -
- barrie (10/5): - Everything it was great Nothing
- Stephen (8/5): George hotel. A comfortable location to experience Selby centre. - Location. Free onsite parking. Comfortable and reasonably quiet room with good view of market square, close to the scenic abbey church, other pubs and eating options. Reasonable time check out with key drop box. Secure stairways felt safe particularly as access through bar areas. Good late night access to the room via pub.Plenty if tea & coffee No access to car park during market day during set times ( due to traders set up on blocked roads. I know this is unavoidable for the hotel but it is a regular occurrence so guests should be informed of the time restrictions and alternative parking sites while waiting. It was a surprise for us and difficult negotiating crowds to find an alternative to park and phone hotel. Then wait over an hour to park.We could have arrived later or parked stress free if directions had been supplied. Staff very helpful though.

- Ian (6/5): The place was ideally located for the concert in the Abbey,so its was great to stay. Not sure I’d have chosen it for any - We were at a concert in the Abbey so the location was perfect. It also had private car parking which after registering was free. The drinks were not overpriced in the bar. The room was warm and the bed comfortable. It’s tired looking and could do with some TLC, especially in the public areas. Sadly doesn’t do breakfast, so had to forage elsewhere, luckily there are a couple of tearooms open and a Greggs nearby.
Our room was at the front so a bit noisy until the pub closed. It was a warm sunny day so more than usual seated outside.
- Alistair (8/5): - Location Nothing
- Simon (10/5): Comfortable stay in the middle of town. - Very welcoming friendly staff. Quaint old building. Large comfortable and clean room.
- Evon (10/5): Excellent - Customer service at the hotel is exceptional.. Nick and Brendon were amazing!! Location is great too.. We definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again next year.. Thanks once again to Nick, Brendon and staff.. Breakfast would be nice bonus
- Janet (6/5): The accommodation suited our proposes for visiting family in the area, but I would not stay there again. - The location was good for me The property had a very neglected look from the outside, and although the room was clean and provisioned as described it was in need of a refurbished bathroom.
- Paul (3/5): - Breakfast not applicable.
The booking advertised as food available so we booked on that understanding, they had no food available. If we knew this we wouldn't have booked The bathroom was horrendous.
Mould all around the shower, the flooring felt that it was so uneven you might put your foot through the floor, the sink had several large cracks in it, the towel rail dusty, wallpaper pealing off in bedroom.
- andrew (7/5): Could be so much better with a little tlc - The location was perfect and the staff were friendly and helpful . The shower was good. The room in general needs an update. The shower panel was loose and the light above the sink didn’t work which made the bathroom very dingy.
The worst thing though was by far the internet! The hotel internet didn’t work at all and all we could get was a general North Yorkshire connection and that was very sporadic as well. Even the TV constantly buffeted.
- John (10/5): -
- Carmen (7/5): Good location - That it eas close to the Working area.
Walking distance. No facilities to warm food up.
- Carmen (8/5): Fair - That it was near to the work of place. No microwave facilities . After a long day, it would be nice yo heat up our own dinners.
Spending alot on takeaways.
- Trisha (10/5): -
- Neil (6/5): Stay was good apart from disappointment of not receiving breakfast we and payed in advance for - Central Payed for breakfast only to find out from night porter when we returned at midnight that they didn’t do breakfast anymore
- June (5/5): -
- Miguel (7/5): -
- Debby vd Togt (3/5): - Locatie Douche was niet bruikbaar, personeel nam de klachten niet serieus. Kamer was zwaar verouderd, plafond liet los, ramen vielen er nog net nu uit.
- jamiesH1154JC (10/5): Steak pie was delicious - Wonderful food! Great to see the restaurant booming again!
- Iain (8/5): Always enjoy staying in Selby - Everything went well and pleased to know evening meals will soon be available for my next visit.
- Iain (9/5): Meeting Family - Location
- Michael (9/5): -
- john (10/5): - Location was fantastic, right in the centre. The staff were very friendly Nothing
- Mr the man (10/5): - The friendly staff. Great location. N.a
- D6403PKelainec (10/5): Great hotel well worth a visit. - We've just stayed at this lovely hotel in Selby..what a lovely stay we've had..the Staff are really friendly, the room was excellent very clean, lovely comfy bed , tea & coffee making facilities, great soft towels in the en- suite, in fact I couldn't find one fault we had a brilliant stay..we were going to a concert at the Abbey and we were literally meters away..fantastic.we will definitely be coming back..oh I nearly forgot..they start doing food on APRIL 1st..fab. I can highly recommend.
- Aidas (8/5): -
- David (8/5): - Great friendly helpful staff
- C1514VCyvonnea (10/5): Recommend - Lovely clean and comfortable room and bathroom. Toiletries and drink making facilities.
Reasonably priced, free parking, it’s near other pubs/bars and restaurants and right next to the Abbey and only a short walk from the train station.
Recommend and would stay again.
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Holly (7/5): Quite satisfactory - They didn’t advertise in they ad that they had free parking. Nice location next to tye abbey. Lovely view. Window didn’t open properly on the outside due to rot but the window was secondary glazed. No problem.
- Roslyn (1/5): Will never stay there again - Nothing Absolutely filthy
- Clare (7/5): We have had better stays at The George Inn - Such a great location, the staff are always so friendly and helpful I have stayed here a few times now but this time I feel the stay was let down by a few things. The room was not that clean and needs some redecorating. Looking a little run down. Previously we have paid a better rate which included breakfast. I did ask when booking for the same room we had before and I know these are not guaranteed I was a little disappointed.
- Andrew (6/5): -
- bevb303 (2/5): Never Again - Stayed here before but can't believe how awful it is now. Nothing good to say about it anymore other than avoid room 18.
- Kelly (7/5): -
- Sabine (9/5): - Die Lage Es war kalt
- Pauline S. (9/5): Handy stay with family - Convenient location. Car park at the back. Friendly staff. No issue but be prepared to not have water pressure for the shower on the top floor.
- Amanda (8/5): -
- Aidas (9/5): -
- Katherine (6/5): Needs revamp but okay - Free parking, convenient location and friendly/helpful staff Room 11 in serious need to redecorating, marks on the wall from previous water leaks and over all very dated décor in all communal areas
Lighting left a lot to be desired, very dark in some areas of room
- Joanne (1/5): - Goid location Very dated, unclean decor.
Very noisy, could hear people above moving about, needs floorboards sortin
- Toby Taylor (1/5): BEWARE : CHARGE YOU FOR BREAKFAST AND TELL YOU NO BREAKFAST ON ARRIVAL & NO REFUND ! - WE WILL NEVER STAY HERE EVER AGAIN :
Breakfast, What Breakfast ?
We paid for 2 Breakfast's with our stay.
On checking in we were told there would be no breakfast because they had no kitchen staff anymore.
When we asked how we got refunded the hotel staff member said ask Booking.com.
So we phoned Booking.com and they told us they would contact the hotel and we had to wait 48hrs for a reply.
We called Booking.com back several times chasing it, just to be told were still waiting for clarification from the Hotel.
We also phoned the Hotel several times and they lied saying they told Booking.com, and they hadn't.
Basically the hotel is keeping the money and Booking.com would refund us, Shocking on both sides !
ROOM :
Room Dated, Dirty and Uncomfortable. Spring protruding out the sides of the mattress.
Shower absolutely rubbish.
STAFF :
Unhelpful and tell lies ALL OF IT ! The Lies especially.
- Lesley (2/5): - Close proximity to town centre Decor extremely poor
- sandra (10/5): -
- Martijn (8/5): - Great location in the middle of the centre. The nearby abbey's clocks didn't keep my awake as I had been afraid for. Friendly staff gave good recommendation for dinner, that they didn't serve unfortunately Just the fact thay no dinner or breakfast was being served, had a great stay otherwise
- Michael (9/5): -
- Goodwin (3/5): - Location Not clean. Needs a good refurb. No food. Bar area dirty
- Colin (9/5): -
- David (7/5): -
- Robert (9/5): -
- Bev R (1/5): -
- Tracey (1/5): -
- Jane (3/5): - Pub taken over after we booked. New owners closed kitchen. We were not notified of this change.
- Joanne (8/5): - Great location. Decent sized rooms. Large bed. I prefer it the way it was before. Calmer and more organised. And the housekeeping came into our room whilst we we still in bed!
- Jill (1/5): worst one I've had anywhere - location everything else. Staff not attentive rooms far too hot when went in and even though we turned heating off and opened window it didn't really cool down. Not hotels fault but people in room next door kept us awake being loud and telly on high we did ask for them to quieten down but they didn't so at 2am we left as there was no way to speak to a staff member. Says breakfast included on booking but it wasn't.
- david (8/5): -
- Lawrence (3/5): Dark & dingy rooms, wallpaper hanging off walls & ceilings but beds comfy. - The beds were comfy. That's the only good thing that I could say about the rooms to be honest. The rooms were dark and dingy, there was wallpaper peeling off ceilings and walls. Definitely wouldn't stay there again with the rooms in their current state.
- steven (3/5): Stsyied at the george for the past 4 years half dozen times a yesr always good and grest value, this time its the worst - Location No evening food and breakfast,
- Zuzana (6/5): - The location was good The bathroom could do with an upgrade
- Pete (9/5): -
- Helen (9/5): -
- angela (9/5): Friday night stay - Nice central location. Character property with a nice bar/pub. Clean room and a very comfortable bed. Have been before and enjoyed a lovely breakfast on both occasions. Unfortunately there was no food available on this visit.
- Marion (10/5): - It was ver nice and welcoming
- karen (5/5): Clean great location. Room for improvement - Location No longer do meals and breakfast
When I booked I paid for bed and breakfast, hotel was taken over and no longer do breakfast, I wasn’t informed prior to arrival
Used the hotel for last 4 years, you used to get 10% off at the bar if you was booked in the hotel, no longer get this since new owners taken over.
Shower not very powerful
- Dream31726890157 (2/5): Very disappointed. - Very disappointed! Rooms well out dated. Peeling wall paper and mould, many cobwebs on ceiling and strange marks on the walls. Radiator not sufficient, room cold. Then to add the final insult, George Inn no longer do food as their website still displays.
- cassandrasT1552XB (2/5): Filthy - Three of us stayed in two rooms for one night. On checking in the staff were unfriendly. My mother had a single room (i think no.9) It was filthy dirty and had a terrible smell. Mold all down the exterior wall, the ceiling was falling down, all the wall paper peeling off, dirty and damp. We requested an alternative room which was granted but no apology was given. My mother was then given no.11 . This was not much better. Freezing cold, dirty, cob webs covered in dust going from the centre of the room to the wardrobe in the corner. Dirty used towels on the bathroom floor and every inch of the walls covered in dirty marks. Our room no.15. The counter tops had not been cleaned (dirty cup marks) the walls were filthy. The exterior window wouldn't close. Mold down the walls. The bathroom door had brown marks on it and around the toilet roll holder. I must say that the staff in the bar on the evening were alot more friendly and the bar atmosphere was plesent. It is a shame they no longer serve food.
- Rebecca (8/5): - No food
- Weining Li (10/5): - nice room, good view.
- Andrew (5/5): Will probably stay again due to the location and staff the visit excellent local eateries. - Staff where friendly and very helpful, and location was ideal for our needs, room was warm and bed was comfy. Very disappointed that they no longer serve food, and no mention at time of booking that food was not available anymore.
- McDougall (10/5): - The George Inn was in a great central location next to the Abbey where I went to a concert , just a few yards to walk . Rooms were clean and comfortable. The information said food was available but on arrival were told food is no longer served. The Inn still has menu advertised online so they need to update details.
- Kerry (7/5): - Great location Stayed here before and had breakfast included. Much nicer greeting and happier staff the time we stayed here before.
- Dave (6/5): Comments above - Location is very good I was in room 4 which is at the top of the stairs against the door , heard everyone who went in and noise from the pub on certain nights was disturbing.
Lighting in the bathroom was very poor especially when shaving each morning.
Loose light fitting on the side of the bed
- CLARE (7/5): A town centre hotel for those who wish to visit Selby Abbey. It is one of the most magnificent but under visited buildin - Close to Selby Abbey where Cathedral Music had its meeting. Clean and good value for money. No breakfast or meals available though we knew this before we booked.
- Extraordinary791370 (10/5): A pleasant stay - Our stay was very pleasant, the room was very clean although a bit dated , the tea tray was well stocked and bottles of water were in rooms , iron and hairdryer were also provided. Only gripe I have is they no longer serve food , which wasn't mentioned on my booking . The inns website needs updating . But all in all a pleasant stay .
- Anastasiou (4/5): -
- Foudy12345 (7/5): -
- Flaherty (4/5): - No food
Not even cup of tea for breakfast
- James (10/5): -
- Kerry (7/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Short break - Very clean comfortable room, felt safe there as a lone female traveller. Central location near train station. No longer do breakfast, but this didn't bother me as Im not a breakfast person. Plenty of places nearby to get some otherwise.
- Sarah (7/5): Ok for the price - It was clean and quiet and a great price. The room was absolutely freezing when we arrived. There was a plug in radiator provided but it took so long to heat up the room.
It’s a shame as we had been travelling in the cold and rain and was looking forward to getting in to a cozy room.
There was also a faff trying to log on to the internet which required two trips down to the bar to ask the staff. I welcome booklet with this info in would have helped.
Also it was quite a dark room that could have done with an extra lamp.
But for the price, it was fine.
- Padraig (4/5): very cold all night - didnt have breakfast room very cold and smell of food and kitchen in it ' room 19
- Maxine (5/5): - The location good price We've stayed here lots times completely changed no breakfast available closed kitchen new owners room cold pub empty not like it used to be all staff looking miserable bedding grubby get your act together please was lovely before
- Gail (7/5): They’ve done their best to update the hotel without spending a fortune on the building. It was fine for a few nights but - Very central, and cheap. No food. No lounge with comfy seats. Our tv pixelated, and didn’t receive all channels.
- Maureen (10/5): Lovely stay if you are going up to Yorkshire we will and would recommend here to stay - Location perfect for the town of Selby also near bus and train stations Nothing
