Guest Reviews
- Paul (8/5): Great value hotel. - Excellent first impression of Tracy the landlady who was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. Wifi was good. Tea and coffee were available. The restaurant and bar were very busy on the friday night I stayed there. The food was good value - thurs / fri special @ £10. I arrived before 17.30 and had to ring to seek entrance to the hotel. Until then I sat on the street waiting.Early evening the place was very busy with drinkers and diners. The landlady did very well to keep on top of things but looked as though some help would have been appreciated. Restaurant meals were served by a young waiter who didn't take food orders. Breakfast did not start the following morning until 9.00am. I ordered one but left before 9.00am as to wait for it would have wasted too much of my morning .Mattress and pillows were very soft
- Richard (9/5): comfortable and welcoming. - I stayed for one night in room 3. This was very comfortable and quiet. Had a really nice rump steam for dinner, 16 oz which was too much for me to finish as it was huge. Had a very good cooked breakfast early Sunday morning at 9 because I had to be away for a model flying competition. Nothing really. Pity that there weren't many others dining saturday evening. Strange because it's a very nice place to come and have a drink and a meal.
- TERESA (8/5): -
- Andy (4/5): Breakfast good, room was cold - Breakfast was very filling. Dinner the night before was ok, wasn't exactly gourmet. The heating didn't seem to work properly so there were two electric radiators in the room, neither of which were up to the task so the room was constantly cold and especially the bathroom.
- Peter (7/5): - Great location, nice friendly owners. Good food. A bit tired, but slept well.
- Dan (6/5): OK for a stop over - Owner was very friendly and welcoming. As advertised, it's a basic pub with rooms. Room a bit grubby, mattress was really old / springy and shower was tiny.
- Stephen (8/5): - Nice room, with good wifi.
The pub and restaurant was excellent.
The cooked breakfast, probably the best I’ve had in years.
- neil (10/5): Excellent service. - Staff were friendly and very helpful. Food was excellent. As i was up and out before breakfast, the staff made me up a packed lunch to take into work! Can't recommend this place enough, will definitely be staying again.
- Bethany (10/5): It was a true home from home. - Everyone was so happy and friendly, the accommodation was excellent, really comfy bed, with the right amount of bed linen. If I am ever in the area, I will be happy to stay here. The only slight negative but it's nothing, as a larger lady, it is always nice to have a BIG towel for the shower.
- Daz (10/5): Beautiful and quiet - Clean and friendly
- Francis (8/5): -
- richard (5/5): Not the best overnight stay - Reasonable cooked breakfast not till 9am Sunday morning Despite open fire not very warm sitting in bar/ lounge
- Peter (5/5): -
- Carole (10/5): Only one night - The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was the best I've ever had in a bed and breakfast. Everything was good.
- Margaret (2/5): Disappointing - The property outside looked good as was the location. Bath tiles off the internal wall in the bathroom, lying on the floor. The expeller did not work and so there was no way to get rid of the smells. There were cobwebs in the bedroom which was very small. We told the manageress who said we could move hotels but then said all local hotels were full. She offered us a bottle of house wine and 2 sweets. We were stuck and so accepted.
- Mark (10/5): Nice place in a lovely location. - The staff were really pleasent, took time to go through everything and really nice to have a chat with. My only warning would be the breakfast is huge, two of everything :-) If you've a small appitite I'd suggest asking for a smaller portion.
The room was exactly as described, nice and peaceful, the bar/pub downstairs is a great place to relax.
I'll be using it again when I pass by.
- Sharon (8/5): -
- Brian (8/5): - Very good food and comfortable room
- darren (6/5): Overnight stay - Room was clean but very dated . No soap in room . Carpet in hallway was dirty and smelt very bad
Food in restaurant was excellent
Service was good
- Michael (8/5): - Pleasantly rustic with will willing staff, comfortable bed and good food. Happy to go back. Nice experiance.
- Philip (8/5): - Food was excellent and plentiful
- Geraldine (8/5): Great for an overnight stay off the main highway. - The food was excellent both dinner & breakfast, the bathroom was a good size & good parking on site & our hosts were very friendly. Nothing.
- Gillian (10/5): An ideally situated inn for touring, with great hospitality. - The hosts were really excellent and had a genuine interest in their guests. The food was also very good indeed with nice large portions. The beds were super comfortable.
- Geoff (3/5): -
- Margaret (6/5): - The restaurant was excellent. Staff helpful.
Room was disappointing bathroom had very small shower. Walls not tiled. 3 loose pieces of carpet.
The website pictures of rooms and bathrooms bear no resemblance to the actual we experienced. We feel we were overcharged. Shame really as it could be lovely.
- Paul (9/5): -
- Peter (6/5): The hotel met our needs for our visit. - The breakfast and Evening meal was excellent
Plenty of hot water and fresh air.
Staff friendly and helpful- good atmosphere. Faulty light in corridor. Very dark and a step was a trip hazard. Owner was arranging replacement lighting but must highlight step in the meantime.
Hygiene and housekeeping could be improved.
- Karen (4/5): Disappointing - Location was good for attending event at Belvoir Castle having been let down by Rochford Hall which was our original choice. Kathy was very helpful if assisting with our dinner requirements. Room was very small. Shower was virtually impossible to use if you are not a small person due to it's tiny size. Not directly the host's fault but we were kept awake until the early hours of the morning with another guest playing very loud music. The public toilet was tired looking and quite dirty with many cobwebs.
- David (7/5): -
- Edmund (6/5): Adequate - Location and general efficiency of staff Cleanliness of public areas, particularly seeing a cat in the kitchen during breakfast
- Sylvan (8/5): -
- Ian (5/5): Got what we paid for - Location suited us Comfort
- Kevin (10/5): Great hotel in countryside - Great countryside hotel with lovely food. Staff were wonderful
- Marilyn (4/5): We wouldn’t want to stay here again - Breakfast was quite good Hotel not open for food and drinks
Hotel clean in parts but not so in others.
Decor is very tired looking
- Janet (10/5): - A lovely country pub. The landlady was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of tea and coffee sachets in the room. The food was exceptional and the breakfast was amazing. Even freshly brewed coffee which you do not get in hotels. We were pleasantly surprised.
- Ewan (8/5): Very good -
- Liz (9/5): Perfect stop over for day nr Melton Mowbray for a work trip. - Location, lots of parking, traditional feel with great hosts. Nothing all good ideal for my business trip.
- Richard (7/5): Great food and accommodation ! - Really great friendly staff and the food was excellent! Room was a bit dated and the stairs leading up to the bedroom were in need of a good hoover.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Talbot (6/5): Dated facilities - Quiet location Very narrow steep stairs.
Carpets needs a good clean answer saw a cockroach go under a mat.
Food was average.
- Jasan (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was excellent with a lot to choose from. Room was clean and comfortable, ample parking, staff was friendly and helpful. A bit pricey for one night
- Alyse (9/5): Would stay again and recommend - Easy to find, staff were amazing, breakfast was great Rooms could have been a little cleaner
- Marcus (9/5): Superb -
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was one of the best i have had, in any grade of accommodation. The room was ok and roomy. Overall good value. Traffic noise in the morning as i was positioned at the front on the street. Was ok until about 6am.
- Jose (8/5): Perfect for our needs for a short w/e stay - Great value, great location and lovely people. Nothing really
- James (8/5): Mo day bookings look at bar & restaurant times. - The hotel was lovely. Breakfast was great. Unfortunately on booking we didnt look at opening times. We booked to stay on a Monday. The hotel takes bed & breakfast bookings but the bar & restaurant isnt open on Mondays. So we had to drive 15 minutes to another village for food. Not what we realy wanted to do, but the luckily the other pub served food. It only says on opening time that the bar & restaurant is closed Mondays. It needs to more clearer on website as why would we look at restaurant & bar opening timrs if the hotels open. Its not a separate building from bat/restaurant to roons. We were not the only ones that got caught out. A,few others didnt know either.
- Leslie (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place to stay, Tracy was very welcoming. Bedroom was lovely and very comfy. Evening meal was excellant as was the breakfast - would recommend it.
- Ka (5/5): Functional. - Cooked breakfast - very nice. But - NO BUTTER???
Staff - very hospitable. No towels in room - not life threatening just a little annoying - easily rectified. All those cushions on the bed??? Soaps etc - poor quality.
- Sue (5/5): Evening meal and beer good. Room was small, cold and the walls thin. No heating in the bathroom - We didn't eat breakfast. Provide Yogurt and serve before 9am
- Nick (7/5): Nice Location - Breakfast was superb The room was cold when I entered and it took a while for the heat to get into the room.
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - Tracy and Andy, the owners, were very helpful, kind, and friendly. The food was fantastic and plenty. We had cold meat salad left in our room complimentary on Sunday as we didn't expect
Thank you for your generosity. Gizmo, the cat, was such a sweet little thing.
- Valerie (4/5): won't be going back - breakfast was lacking in instruction, we waited and waited for the toast to arrive then realised there was a a toaster and bread behind us, had anyone bothered to ask if everything ok we could have mentioned this, but once we had been given our cooked breakfast never saw anyone again, a very deserted place. we were very disappointed with the dirt in the room, the area behind the bedside table had previous guests biscuit wrapper and generally grubby, when sitting on the bed under the sideboard one could see personal items of previous guest,. unable to mention this to Tracy as she was nowhere to be found, did not see any staff when we left.
Cake of the day had rock hard butter cream icing on, obviously not fresh that day.
- Bryn (8/5): Very good - Friendly service. Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): Enjoyed - Friendly N/A
- Liz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dace (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- John (7/5): Rather better than adequate. - Food was quite nice. There was an air of organisational chaos which one could not miss.
- Rodger (8/5): GREAT PLACE TO STAY - Lovely hosts , very clean , good food . Single glazed window on a busy road .
- Peter (9/5): Welcoming and good fun - Excellent welcome, lovely and helpful restaurant staff, great Irish folk group in the bar in the evening.
- Sean (9/5): Superb - Lovely evening meal. Lovely breakfast. Friendly staff.
- Jack (8/5): Very good - It was a busy Friday night With a live folk group playing atmosphere was superb.Breakfast was excellent. As was the buffet provided for our private party. The staff were great coping with such a busy crowd. Nothing.
- Robin (8/5): Very good - Good breakfast
- Joanna (8/5): Another great stay - We've stayed at the Tollemache several times and it's always good.
The food is excellent and reasonably priced, the staff and locals (including Gizmo the resident cat) are very welcoming so it's our preferred place to stay when we're visiting the area. The shower is a little small, but serviceable and to be fair it couldn't be much bigger without compromising the rest of the bathroom.
- David (8/5): Super food and service - The food was excellent. I had an outstanding gammon steak meal and pint of Guinness in the evening and equally fabulous full English breakfast. Having an open wood fire was most enjoyable and relaxing.
- Stephen (7/5): Very happy and would definitely book again even for a family holiday stay - Service was well above average.
Very helpful and facilities very good. Meals were great, lots of variation and fresh. It was raining 😂😂
Felt like being back in scotland 🙄
As that’s not their fault, I’ve nothing I can think of that was bad
- Jill (7/5): Good - Quiet location, friendly staff. In need of maintenance and a deep clean.
- Janet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (10/5): Great location. Friendly staff and great food! - Warm welcome ! Lovely spacious room with very comfy bed and great shower ! Perfect stop over as not far from A1
Excellent, freshly cookedfood with generous portions.
- Claire (6/5): I stayed with my 9 year old son. Our stay was pleasant, our room was clean. - More child friendly. Maybe something in the garden for children to play
- Ruth (7/5): Good - We had a great stay, lovely location in a small rural village. Staff were welcoming and the room was comfortable. Bonus that breakfast was included
- Sally (7/5): Great but clean the shower please! - Staff are very friendly.Lovely village location. Food is superb! The shower head was filthy and covered in lime scale. Needs a thorough scrub. Be aware the building is old and many gaps in windows. If you stay in room besides the road every car/ lorry will wake you up!
- Kev (10/5): A lovely hotel run by friendly hosts - Excellent accommodation in a great location with very friendly staff offering great service, food and comfortable rooms. And a great breakfast to start your day off.
- Nancy (7/5): No cause for complaint and comfortable. - Friendly and helpful service. The room was comfortable, the breakfast very good - the cleanliness of the pub bar could improve for a higher rating. Could do with a bit of maintenance and paintwork touch-up
- Heath (10/5): Great stopover on travels for work - so nice to get non-standard home cooked food which was excellet - Real home cooked food which was delicious.
Warm welcome and very thorough.
- Marc (7/5): Good -
- Stuart (8/5): - The shower head was covered in limescale and the silicone sealant mouldy, and the toilet rocked a little when you sit on it, the bedroom was spotless though, the staff lovely and the food was good!
- Keith (8/5): Very good -
- Stevie (10/5): Cracking good nights sleep - Lovely welcome was to early for breakfast so they made me a pck up. Which was great
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Barbara (4/5): The property is in need of some care and attention. - Comfy bed and the staff and manager were very pleasant. The room was small and in need of upgrading.
- Johnwvincent (5/5): Passable -
- Stephen (4/5): Didn't meet expectations - good breakfast state of the rooms . Both bedside lights broken. No form of heating. Dangerous slippy shower floor (no mat) and loose shower unit. Curtains do not close properly > poor quality pillows. Not worth £130 per night. ROOM 1
- Louise (2/5): Overall filthy and wouldn’t recommend - No much appreciated art from the cooked breakfast Overall the place was filthy, from the smell going in the front door, poor lighting and dirty floors, skirting boards, carpets, bedroom dusty and bathroom was filthy. The women in the bar was distracted and left me to speak to another customer!! Breakfast Buffett was extremely poor with filthy glasses for the fruit juice! Salt and pepper shakers looked like they had never been clean! I worried about getting unwell and only ate a little of the breakfast
- David (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Easy parking. Bedside lights not working. No VAT receipt.
- Alan (6/5): Pleasant - The setting, location was ideal: just off the A1, very quiet and peaceful. Bed was comfy.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Good location for where we needed to go. - Breakfast was excellent. Large full English breakfast.
- Ken (10/5): Night away. - Very helpful staff, plenty of parking.
Food was good, room was clean.
Basically could not fault, i would stay again.
- Ruth (5/5): Adequate - The evening meal was good, beds comfy. Lack of cleanliness in areas around the site. eg. bannisters really sticky and horrible to touch, cobwebs, windows need cleaning inside and out in the eating areas, glasses were all foggy not crystal clear.
Staff looked miserable and we were ignored for some length whilst waiting for menus etc. Had to ask.
- Rogers (3/5): Poor -
- Kenneth (8/5): Very good -
- Phill (10/5): Top notch Tollemache yarms - Really enjoyed my stay at Tollemache Arms - lovely greeting from Linda when checking in -quick explanation of what and when and I was all set! Monday is a well earned day off for pub restaurant staff but luckily Linda offered a beautiful complimentary beef salad for my evening meal- outstanding!!
Breakfast was delicious served bang on time plentiful and well cooked
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Jeff (8/5): Nice village stay, food was really good and generous portions! - Wonderful breakfast by Andy, room was clean and well appointed. View gave us opportunity to watch horses being ridden by on the street.
- David (10/5): Proper - A great place to stay, great food and superb staff, home from home. Can’t think of anything
